When I host karaoke, I like to try new venues so I can compare them on factors like pricing, service, equipment quality, and food. This spot was... all right. Please note that you will have to climb several sets of stairs and there is a doorman who will check your bag in the evening.
My main priority as a host is always that my guests have a good time. Overall, my guests expressed they had a good time at this venue. The drinks and food I ordered were well received. I was able to enter the room 15 minutes early and a gentleman kindly explained how the system works. The servers came by maybe 1-2 times an hour to collect empty plates and drinks to clear the table, which was appreciated. The food and drinks came relatively quick. The bathrooms were clean and so was the room and karaoke equipment. However, I believe I could have spent the same amount of money or less to get a better experience elsewhere for the same number of hours/drinks/food.
Several guests mentioned that the service felt slightly rude. For example, they went downstairs to order food and were curtly told to go upstairs to the bar, except no one explained prior that food orders should be placed there. Additionally, the karaoke catalog was lacking. Even some popular songs by well-known artists were unavailable, which meant guests spent more time searching for songs than actually singing. While there’s an option to search via YouTube, it runs through a glitchy app that does not display the full range of results. There’s also a Spotify connection, but that defeats the purpose of karaoke—if I wanted to sing from Spotify, I’d do it at home for free. I host karaoke at venues because of the atmosphere and not having to babysit a computer to queue up songs for my guests. But if there's a significant lack of songs for my guests, that makes it difficult to get the party momentum going.
My biggest issue, however, was the handling of tabs and gratuity. I always read signs and online info, so I knew about the 20% automatic gratuity. What I did not expect was to be charged that gratuity multiple times: once for the room, once for food and drinks, and once again when I added an extra hour to the room. Each came with its own receipt and an additional 20% charge. That is obscenely excessive. Other venues typically consolidate the room, food, and drink into one tab, and when I extend a room reservation, they simply update the original bill—not close it and open a new one with another gratuity fee the way they did here.
The lack of coordination among staff also created confusion. One guest from my party went to order separately, but in doing so, an employee put my guest's order on MY tab and then mistakenly closed it. That shouldn't happen, especially because my card and ID were being held by staff. Why did they not confirm the individual closing the tab was the cardholder? After that, I chose not to order anything else because I did not want to risk being hit with yet another receipt and another forced tip.
If you work nearby or are bar-hopping, this is a fun place for a quick karaoke session. But I would not recommend it for hosting a group event or party based on my personal experience. While room prices are competitive, the disorganized service and multiple gratuity charges make the overall experience less worthwhile. But, this is why I go to new venues everytime I host, in order to compare experiences.
