A one‑man institution where Mr. Chen cooks to order—hand‑pulled house noodles, wok aromatics, and a fiercely loyal local following. Recent reviews show it very much active; expect slower pacing and lovingly made plates.

Ordered house noodles, Mongolian chicken, and mixed vegetables. The Mongolian chicken is not the same thing in the other reviews. Everything I ordered was in the same sauce and tasted exactly the same. It tasted okay, and the homemade noodles were good! But disappointed that everything was the same and the portions weren’t great for the price. I also asked for an updated menu because I couldn’t find one online and the person at the front told me “no”. So you just have to call and ask for prices.

Was looking for a noodle place that was closer to home. Called in an order for take away. Food was made fresh. The gentleman making our food was a sweet old man. Got home and had the most delightful meal. The Pad Thai was so flavorful and delicious. Definitely want to go back.

Google
This place SHINES. The owner is a one man show and is cooking up some incredible food. His service is incredible, and he is making some of the most authentic, clean, delicious Chinese food I've ever had. If you live in Boise and haven't tried this place, do yourself a favor. Don't expect it to be the quickest place in the world, but go for the experience and you wont be disappointed.

Google
This unassuming little place is remarkable. You don't think much at first, but the owner is incredibly nice, and his cooking is INCREDIBLE. He is a one man operation and worth every second of waiting. Anyone who comes to BOISE, ID, NEEDS to try this place, I thought I wasn't hungry and instantly began scarfing every bite of the House Noodles (Man makes his own freaking noodles!!).

Google
Just went here for the first time. Let me say that Chan (the owner / chef) is so nice and sweet. The place is adorable. The food is delicious. Absolutely some of the best ma po tofu I’ve ever had, and the house noodles are also amazing. I will be frequenting this place.

Google
Wow just wow. The food is so good!! I ordered spicy chicken chow mein and it was the best I have ever had! You can tell he makes everything from scratch and it’s authentic. I rated three stars for the atmosphere lol it’s a little eclectic lol but do yourself a favor and try it out. Also the owner is so sweet!

Google
The Moto is have patience since it’s one man one wok. I find the place charming, very polite and where customers are very familiar with the owner and with each other. I’m the guest and visitor who finds this very interesting. It actually made me slow down to enjoy the calming soothing music playing in the background and wanting to enjoy eating my food which was good. 1 egg roll was not enough for my hungry appetite and I found the pad Thai needing more spice and portion. I wish he can get some help so I can order some more food Togo. If you are not in a hurry and have good company to converse for a while then this is the place to go. Hot tea was automatically delivered with menu.

Google
Super amazing hole in the wall! I got the house fried rice and my partner got the house fried noodles. We definitely recommend both, they’re both made from scratch in house! Even the noodles! Owner was super nice, and as a sign at the front register says, “one man, one wok”. Be patient, but the food is worth it!

Yelp
I have lived in the valley for a long time and I have never made me way into this local joint. Stopped in for lunch today. After reading the reviews, the one thing I got out of them was patience. One man, one wok. My family had owned a couple restaurants in the valley. We were always fully staffed. It's amazing that it's a one man show. If you're on a time crunch or you're really hungry, I would recommend you going somewhere else. You're waiting a hot minute for your food to be prepared. The chef/ owner was cooking when I walked in. Another patron came in after me. He told me just to grab a table. We both waited for a bit but we finally got menus and water. I ordered an egg roll and beef with broad rice noodles with a light gravy. I have been creeping out the menu for a couple days so I'm excited to eat! The egg roll (made to order) came out hot! That baby was packing heat. The exterior was fried golden and crunchy. The inside was savory with a good punch of pepper. I dipped that baby in the sweet and sour sauce. I love the sweet and savory combo. My beef with noodles looked so good! I like the veggies in it. Zucchini, broccoli and bok choy. The beef was nice and tender. The flavoring of the sauce was tasty! I would have liked more gravy, it was very dry. And unfortunately, my noodles were still very hard. They could have been cooked longer. They were hard to eat. I'm happy I got to try the place out. You can tell it's been around for a long time. Everything in the venue is dated. There were several customers there who told me they have been eating there for over 40 years, I love that kind of loyalty. The owner is up there in age so who knows how much longer this joint would be up and running. I'm just happy I got to experience it.

Yelp
Was in the area visiting my grandma at the hospital in Boise. I was craving Chinese food and heard good things about this place, so I asked my uncle if he would try it with me. We ordered big and they sure did load it up! The owner freshly makes his noodles and they were absolutely my favorite thing ever. From the rice, to the beef, to the veggies, everything was delicious! The owner himself is absolutely kind and an incredible cook who runs the whole thing by himself, so with warning, it'll take about 20ish minutes depending on the order traffic. I asked for 3/5 spicy and it was moderate with a little kick, for me at least. My grandma who hadn't been eating for over a month even ate! She loved the noodles and crushed the pork fried rice, and from that day on, she has improved so much on her health. She has made so much progress from that day, and I give small attributes to Wok-Inn Noodle!

Stevie B.

Yelp
Food was amazing!! My Wife, Nephew and I loved it... One Man, One Wok so please be patient

Yelp
This was an interesting experience. A storefront Chinese restaurant run by one very senior gentleman who does everything himself. He is the host, the waiter, the only chef, and the dishwasher. We came in and asked for a table for two for dinner. The man said it would be about 45 minutes before we would be served. We decided to stay. The menu is limited, narrowed down I suppose, to what can be handled by one person. Everyone else, we noticed, was ordering the House Noodle and egg rolls, so we ordered those too. We also ordered sweet and sour pork. The egg rolls are handmade by the gentleman with real ingredients, real vegetables, real meat, and real flavor, unlike the egg rolls at almost all other Chinese restaurants. The house noodle dish, specialty of the house, had beef, chicken and vegetables all chopped just so, with noodles handmade that morning, wok fried in a delicate sauce. The sweet and sour pork is not the usual Chinese American style, with big chunks of pineapple and bell pepper in a sticky pink sauce. The pork chunks were lightly breaded and fried. The sweet and sour sauce came on the side, clear and sweet but very light. It was served with a small portion of fried rice which, by itself, was better than most. The 45 minute wait was more than worth it. He was able to cook and serve five tables while we were there, plus a few take out orders. I wish he would get some help, but I suppose they just wouldn't chop the vegetables the same. Tucked away in a strip mall in just some whatever suburb of Boise, we found a little gem. This is one man's labor of love, to do the thing he knows best in his own special way. Thank you, very much.

Yelp
I stopped in for lunch five minutes before they were supposed to close according to the printout that comes with this spot. I was welcomed warmly and in fact about a half hour after I got there, another family came in and also we served with any problem between two and five. I had something simple just the chicken fried rice and I am a pretty simplistic eater so it was chicken Rice, egg, and onion. It was well prepared tasty and while I didn't eat all of it, I took a small box home with me as well. Service was very nice. The physical plant is kind of rundown looking, but I enjoyed my meal and I hope to go back again soon

Yelp
I used to be a partner a restaurant in Boise that was voted the number one restaurant for three years in a row. I'm very picky when it comes to food. I recently had an order I put online to have delivered to my home. I was beyond impressed. The food was hotter than any food that came out of the window in my restaurant it was freshly cooked and very tasteful I would highly recommend this restaurant to anybody the portions were actually quite large and unexpected. A far cry from the old golden star that's been here for years

Hmmmmm O.

Yelp
It's not your typical Chinese restaurant that's loaded with msg. For example the sweet and sour chicken came with rice and fresh chicken with a delicate almost clear sweet and sour thin sauce in a small bowl. No peppers and onion (would've liked that) and no thick red dye sugary high fructose corn syrup. The egg rolls were fresh made not some frozen tasteless thing. We also had the house noodles and beef and broccoli. The tasty sauce was nice on the B and B. Meals did not make us feel awful afterward but healthy. The sweet man who makes everything is adorable. Atmosphere is a bit odd and no music and kind of dark but for 4 of us at $45 before tip and comfort Chinese food without 5000 calories it was perfect. I heard he makes the noodles but it did not look or have the smoothness of homemade so I kind of question that --- more like ramen. I give him a pass on that though since he is a one man show. Again, it's not Chinese food as you would expect but a nice change and healthier.

Yelp
WOW!!! best chinese food i've ever had...i've lived in a few different states, near some places that are considered "the best", but Wok-Inn Noodle takes the cake for me as the true best. GREATEST beef and broccoli i've EVER had!!! very big portion too! the beef was tender, the broccoli (and zucchini) were cooked to perfection and were so flavorful. i got it at one-star spiciness level which was perfect. the shrimp fried rice was incredible as well. i love that it had a slight char to it - i LOVE a good char flavor in my fried rice!! this was also a very big portion! overall 11/10 experience. our order was prepared in good time, prices were excellent, i can't wait to take the leftovers to work for lunch tomorrow! i love you, Wok-Inn Noodle. i love you.

Yelp
One man, one wok, one KING. Wok-Inn Noodle is everything I've looked for in a restaurant in Boise for YEARS. I spent my younger years in Singapore eating the freshest, most delicious Asian cuisine and I had yet to find anything in the area that was close to comparing until today. I want to start with the owner and sole wok-master, Chan (or as some know him by, Chef Jimmy). This man is so genuine and kind! I placed an order for take-out and arrived a little too early. He didn't seem annoyed at all. He thanked me several times. I had no problem waiting, knowing it'd be worth it. My order included 2 egg rolls, house noodles (house made noodles, chicken, beef, shrimp, and mixed veggies), house fried rice (chicken, BBQ pork, shrimp, egg, green onion) and BBQ pork and seeds with hot mustard - $32.78. It took everything in me to not dig in immediately - had to grab some pics first. Everything was phenomenal. The fried rice was authentic, perfectly seasoned and completely cooked through. I found it paired so well with the spicy chili sauce served with the egg rolls. Them egg rolls, WOW. Generously packed with goods, heavenly crunchy and surprisingly not greasy at all. The pork and seeds were a great addition. The small comes with about ten good-sized pieces of char siu. The house noodles were everything I hoped for. Piping hot, mildly flavorful, loaded with the freshest veggies, meat cooked to perfection and incredible, mouthwatering noodles that are reminiscent of my days in SG. I cannot recommend this dish, and this restaurant, enough. I will be returning again and again as long as it's open. I'm so excited to try the rest of the menu! NOTE: THIS IS A TRUE HOLE-IN-A-WALL. You come here for the food and the man who runs the restaurant. If you feel like whining about the dated decor, don't. Trust me, no one cares. Wok-Inn Noodle is so much more than that. Also, everything is FRESH made when you order so expect a wait. Your patience will be rewarded. I just read a review from 8 years ago that mentioned the seventy-six year old owner...so you're tellin' me he's now EIGHTY-FOUR and still slinging house-made noodles and dishes all by himself?! I'll end my review the way I began. WHAT A KING!

Barb L.

Yelp
A step back in time experience. It's a must stop for me when I'm in Boise. The food is amazing. I love the chicken wings and the combination noodles. It's a one-man operation so you must have patience. You won't be disappointed. It's a Chinese restaurant from the past.

Yelp
Delicious hole in the war with an extremely kind owner. One older gentleman does everything front of house and behind the scenes. Can't wait to be back
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious food. Lovely gentleman who owns, cooks, serves. He apologized for slower service. Absolutely didn't have to. Kept us well supplied with hot tea and the space itself is fun and interesting to sit in. Such a relief from sterile environment of so many restaurants today. Reminiscent of China town places in San Francisco or Vancouver, BC. He is charming and the food worth the little bit of a wait (I've waited longer for a pour over coffee in some of the hipper coffee places in town).
google avatar

Brandy N.

Yelp
This Chinese restaurant does not disappoint. It's seriously the best in town. The food is amazing and very friendly owner who makes his food fresh. One man, one wok service so the service is slow but certainly worth the wait.

Yelp
We are just starting out on our surveying of Asian dining spots around the Treasure Valley. As we have done with our Mexican food recommendations, https://www.yelp.com/collection/uhtPpaJoVOAuUc8a1wk10A, our findings will be published when we get through enough chewing. The meal starts with a complimentary bowl of hot & sour soup for two that has lots of black pepper in it. It will definitely take the chill off during the winter. We ate "in". We ordered the Pad Thai, House Chicken w/noodles and Beef with Broad Flat Rice Noodles. All were big portions and definitely done in a Cantonese Chinese style. A lot of fresh flavors and a focus on sauce. This isn't Thai or Mandarin or Hunan. It is no exaggeration that it is "one man. one wok" in the back doing the cooking. Each dish comes out as he makes it. It is a refreshing change from the places where everything comes crashing on to the table at one time. The photos of the dishes were taken after we had started eating and do not look as pretty as when they came out. We were hungry. Important note: each dish can be made with 0-4 stars of heat (spice). We got 1x and trust that it may take 3-4 stars before we would consider the dish as spicy. Next time we are going to order everything as a 3x and see what happens. Lots of takeout orders here, so you may find yourself behind some of them when you sit down. Lunch from 11:30 to 2 pm has some very attractive prices for a no-nonsense lunch. Call and order ahead for a sitdown lunch.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the pad Thai and egg rolls. The food was amazing and was ready for pickup on time (30min)

Yelp
I don't live in LV and was looking for a quick bite to take back to my hotel. I looked on Yelp and because of good reviews I found a great little hole-in-the-wall. I had a to-to order and experienced wonderful service and fabulous food! My one recommendation would be to lighten up on the sauce a bit and provide extra on the side for people to add. I would recommend!!!

Yelp
It's worth the wait. Best Chinese food around! As good or better than anything I've had when traveling through San Francisco. Always tastes fresh and the handmade noodles are what it's all about!

Adam H.

Yelp
Best Chinese food I've had (so far) in Boise. Don't let the appearance fool you - the food is great and the owner is super cool!

Yelp
Incredible. I ordered the chefs Wok-In. With chicken and it was honestly the best noodle dish I've ever had. The noodles are fresh and perfectly cooked. The flavors throughout the dish are phenomenal. This place is a hidden secret and I'm so glad my friends introduced me to it!

Cameron R.

Yelp
Wok Inn Noodle is a Boise institution. I love the house noodles. In fact, I think I'm going for dinner there tonight. The decor is a delightfully odd mix of bottles and plants.

Yelp
This place was amazing!! My friends and I wanted to try some place new in Boise and came across Wok-Inn Noodle. The owner was so kind and made all of the food himself. We saw him make noodles from scratch! The food its self was so delicious and flavorful. I recommend the egg rolls and chicken pad thai! Would definitely come back!!

Abby H.

Yelp
I cannot say enough great things about this place! Not only is the food absolutely incredible, but there is only one man behind it all. The owner is the greeter, server, busser & chef. While we were sitting and eating, he was making our noodles fresh! The food was so authentic and flavorful. Not to mention, the meals are so affordable. I HIGHLY recommend trying it out!
google avatar

Allie Q.

Yelp
The sweetest owner!! We tried the House Noodles and House Fried Rice. The homemade noodles had a tasty sauce and lots of color from vegetables, and the fried rice was super fragrant! Looking forward to visiting again soon.

Yelp
i LOVE this place !! my boyfriend and i randomly stopped here and few months ago for the first time and now we eat it like at least 2-3 times a month. best chicken pad thai ive ever had !!! eating it right now as a type this lol

Yelp
Chan is the man! One man, one wok. Worth every minute of a wait. He puts care into his food, NEVER overly saucing, always tasty and fresh. I've been going to see him for 20+ years and don't go for ambiance. Go for food and a smiling face behind the wok. His house chicken, house noodle, homemade egg rolls, chicken wings, unreal. Going tomorrow as a matter of fact! How an 84 year old man is still kicking it out by himself is beyond me:)

Yelp
So here's what I think about Wok-Inn Noodle... Believe the reviews that rave about the excellent food. Ignore the reviews that are critical about the decor, the setting, slow service, the smell, or any of the random things strewn about the restaurant. Why do we go out to eat? Bottom line... To eat. And whenever possible, to eat good food! Sometimes, we get to eat excellent food. On rare occasions, we get to eat excellent food in a nice setting with all the trimmings. In the case of Wok-Inn Noodle, you get to eat excellent food! And for me, I don't mind the setting, I actually like the decor, and I fully appreciate the slow service. The quality of the food outweighs any of the detractors you might have. For our last dinner, we started off with Egg Rolls. They were excellent, and tasted really, really yummy. I ordered Fried Rice with all the meats (beef, pork, chicken, and shrimp). All of the meats were cooked perfectly, especially the shrimp. They were so tender and flavorful. My wife ordered the House Noodle, which she loved as well. I had the opportunity to meet the owner and chef of the establishment after normal business hours. I had accidentally left something in the restaurant at our last visit, and I called to make arrangements to pick it up. He is a warm and friendly gentleman, and greeted me with a smile. I appreciate him taking the time to meet with me over my mistake. Just as important, I appreciate him taking the time to cook the lovely meals for us! Don't miss out on this little jewel of a dive-joint! ========== Irony. It is the opposite of wrinkly.

Yelp
Wok-Inn Noodle I have been eating in this Boise restaurant since it first opened in 1983. Owner/Chef Chan Chun-Chung grew up in Hong Kong, the culinary capital of China. Chan specializes in dishes made from scratch, using the freshest ingredients, and hand pulled noodles. Everything I've had is excellent, but my go to is the House Special Noodles. House Special Noodles are stir fried chicken, beef and shrimp with vegetables, on top of noodles lightly coated with a mildly seasoned sauce. You can order it spicy, but I always order it the regular way. This dish is perfection as is. The lunch portion with tax was $8.22. The dinner menu prices are slightly higher, but the portions are also larger. The lunch portion is generous. For me, it was two servings. The box had notable heft. The menu has gotten smaller over the years, but Chan still cooks items off of the original menu for longtime customers, such as his famous Lemon Chicken. The restaurant interior hasn't been updated since it first opened. Some may consider it a bit run down, but for me that's part of its charm. Wok-Inn Noodle is a local gem. Chan is getting up there in years. If you haven't had a chance to visit yet, make sure to put it on your list. Highly Recommended!!!

Yelp
I haven't lived in Idaho too long, but one thing I've been longing for is a good Chinese spot. I am thankful to have finally found this place. Let's get the couple negative things I can say about it out of the way. It takes a while to get your food here. It's literally a one man show, acting as host, waiter, chef, busboy, and dishwasher. The menu is a bit small. I'd also say the decor and lighting could use some work. But really, assuming you aren't in a hurry, who really cares? Cheap food, good portions, and a spot that gives you enough tasty options that you'll be able to find something to your liking. Salt and pepper chicken is a real steal for the price and boy oh boy is it tasty. If the location were better, I'm sure this place would get way more business (it's a bit tucked away and not too visible from the street). If you're looking for a hole in the wall Chinese restaurant, I don't think you'll find a better one anywhere nearby.

Yelp
If you know, you know. Made from scratch, made with love, served with warmth. This is an uniquely wonderful place and I hope that you cherish it as the rest of Boise has for years.
google avatar

Edward S.

Yelp
Well, I've read a lot of different reviews about this place. Over the years, I have certainly gone to fancier places. So OK, the interior might look a little dated, but so do a lot of places that are on my favorites list. The two most important areas, though are where Wok-Inn Noodle shines. The food is fresh. My shrimp in the House Noodle Special were cooked perfectly. The noodles , which is what they specialize in, had that toothiness you only find in places like Din Tai Fung and 101 Noodle Express. Cooked perfectly, they really elevated to dish. The egg rolls were good also, well-fried and not greasy. Service was excellent, prompt and the waitress was smiling and took some time to talk about the restaurant. I will be back to try many more dishes at Wok-Inn Noodle.

Yelp
We saw the reviews on this spot a couple of weeks ago and were excited to give it a try .. intriguing. Our first attempt was a week ago, we mapped out the location and pulled up at the front of the spot around 11:15. From the outside the place looked dark, slightly worn and had no lights on, no one inside that we could see and the exterior was clearly aging .. we opted at that time to move to plan B and go to our alternative place for lunch. After a week of "I wonder if I blew it" thoughts, we opted to return undaunted this past Thursday and threw caution to the wind walking in around 11:20. For those who are not familiar with this spot it is run by a single person who is the greeter, cook, cashier and waiter - seemed novel from the onset. When we walked in there were a few buckets catching ceiling drips from the snow melt and an aged ceiling. None of the tables had any set up and the place was dark. Our host came to the rescue and turned the lights on and the music and told us he would be a bit slow due to his single operation. There was a interesting aroma in the air of the restaurant which was fairly non-descript - but most certainly not food oriented, had us guessing. Clearly, the takeaway business there is fairly robust so the dine in crowd is in a wait queue until those lunches are ready. We did eventually order lunch and then entertained ourselves until the meals arrived (40 minutes). The food was hot but on a scale of 1-10 they came in around 6-7, OK but not overly memorable. The noodles in both of our dishes was a bit underdone and chewy. We did notice while we were eating, that the floors had not experienced a good cleaning for sometime - aged dust was also visible on the picture frame over our table .. a good back to front clean is definitely needed here. The host is most certainly well intended, kind and as best he can runs the show. Clearly his age and mobility are at the present waning a bit, which attributes to the slower pace and honestly some concern. All in all, not a spot we will revisit.

Yelp
Best noodles and the owner is the sweetest guy I highly recommended this place if you want some yummy foods

Yelp
I happened upon this little place when I was hoping to get some Thai food but the restaurant was closed today. I had always wanted to try this little place. Was I wonderfully surprised! The man who is cook there for 30 years even makes his own noodles from scratch. Everything is fresh cooked to order. I had the noodles with vegetables and they were amazing! I highly recommend this little place. He made me smile as well as the delicious food. It is nothing fancy but a great place to grab some takeout!
google avatar

Jonathan H.

Yelp
Came for the noodles, stayed for the old man and the wok. Gotta love the people complaining about the aesthetic of this place - as if that's what you expect out of a place like this. You come for the food you fools, not to be dazzled by the ambiance...
google avatar

Marshall M.

Yelp
Ok where do I start with this place.... The interior is very funky with lots of plants, books, speakers and Asian umbrellas on the roof. Now if you come to eat in at the Wok-Inn make sure you know it does take awhile to get your food. But there is a good reason why because there is only one older man in his 70's cooking all the food on one wok. The servers were pretty bad but very young and were trying to their hardest. It took us close to 35 mins to get our food but it was worth the wait. Ok now the good news the house noodles are amazing and the gravy was awesome!! The handmade eggs were also quite good and I am usually not a big egg room fan. The last dish we got was the garlic and ginger chicken and the fry was good on the chicken but the sauce was just missing a little honey or some heat. I will be back to try the noodles and maybe the spicy chicken or the curry.

Yelp
Here again second time this week. Got my egg roll, the house chicken and house noodles. Noodles were a little different but chicken was on point. Still a solid 4 stars on take out. Can't wait to eat there. Pictures say it all. Just a great little place. Traveling and didn't realize the time change. Called about 10 minutes after they closed but I thought I had 50 minutes till then. Phone rang and rang then an Asian gentleman answered. I asked about take out and he took my order. Could have turned me away but didn't. Little did I know it was the owner. He was there all by himself waiting on me. My new fav in Boise. Yelpers said the house noodles was bomb. I agree. I can't wait till my next visit and check in and get my homemade egg roll.

Priska T.

Yelp
So glad we visited this place. Only spent a night in Boise and ordered lunch to go. Surprised to see this level of homemade Chinese noodles in Boise. House noodle is a must, I should have ordered two or a bigger portion. Spicy chicken noodles and beef wide rice noodles were also good. But the house was our favorite. The aunty and uncle who operated the restaurant are so sweet and nice. I just want to give them hugs. Must try!

Yelp
Best homemade noodles in Boise! Worth the wait. Make sure to get the house noodle. So good!!

Yelp
It was so goooood! The food is cheap and tasty. Today I ordered egg roll, fried chicken and maple tough. Everything is just perfect. And the food is very traditional Chinese. I'm Chinese so I won't cheat you. The man also the chief are very hospitality and he doesn't charge any tips. So love it. Today is my first time that find there is a such good restaurant in Boise. I would definitely go there every week.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this gem by chance and am so grateful we did! He means it - One Man, One Wok. Service was slow and our items came out as they were prepare, so we shared - & it was all delightful and hot. Definitely best egg rolls in town. Yelp
One man. One wok. One dish at a time. That's what the server told us. It is true. The seventy-six year old owner / cook is the one man. When he retires, so will the restaurant I assume. If you haven't been in yet, what are you waiting for? We peeked in to the kitchen. But for one young woman assisting to put food into containers for to go orders and moving the plates for dine in customers from kitchen to server, it was a one man show. Sometimes in evenings or at busy lunch hours there is a line of customers or longer waits for food. Knowing how hard this cook / owner works to produce the dishes all week long should help make one patient and then some. FOOD & MENU Not all execution is 'chef perfect'. For example, the shrimp in the shrimp and veggie noodles were served with veins still in. My husband and I seldom eat poultry, in particular at a restaurant, but the House Special chicken and noodles with ginger sauce sounded delicious. The sauce was addictively good but we might have appreciated the dish more had the chicken pieces been skinned before the cooking since for us they had an odd texture. But the house made noodles are wonderful, the vegetables are wok cooked perfection, and the sauces on our dishes were not only delicious with distinctive flavors but not over applied. In many American focused Chinese restaurants it seems the trend is to drown food in sauce when it should really be only smooched by it. Like this. The noodles are fresh made every day. The cook makes the dough, it gets run through an ancient looking noodle machine six times to stretch it out (our server's daughter runs that machine and it looks pretty labor intensive) and then noodles are cut to use. Order any Chinese noodle dish and you'll be happy. Order noodles with vegetables included and you'll be even happier. This food is clearly cooked in a hot wok by a person with the experience to get that very difficult to achieve skill right! A note worth sharing is this: you'll have a choice of heat levels. Medium was just right from two hot dried chilis being part of the cooking. Also note: Pad Thai is on menu That is a Thai dish using rice noodles. It may be good. But the house made Chinese style noodles are "it". THE DRILL Take a seat at a table and order from the laminated menu. A pot of tea and a cup of soup is offered with your meals. The soup was a delicious one of vegetables cooked only in the broth created by their cooking. That is the Tuesday / Thursday soup. On Monday / Wednesday / Friday Hot and Sour soup is served with "cook's choice" on weekends. Forks are on table and diners are offered chopsticks. These are noodles perfect for eating with chopsticks. Even my hubby, chopsticks skill challenged as he is, had fun with it. VALUE Portion sizes are ample, we had leftovers to take with us, and the price is a bargain. I think our lunches clocked in at under $9 / each. THE VIBE The window in front looks into a hodepodge area of chair and table stacked high with food magazines and dusty cookbooks and plants. I'm thinking this might be the cook's retreat as it didn't seem to be seating. The dining space itself has black and white lino floors and red topped tables with paper parasols hanging on the ceiling. The space is an old one but clean and inviting. But expectations in synch for what this is, it is bare bones. As you walk in you are greeted by the aroma of a hot wok and fresh food. Further sensory delight was provided on our visit by ability to hear the "chop, chop, chop..." rapid fire of knife on block and the sizzle of food hitting the wok. We could hear all that thanks to no music in the dining room. Hooray! There were strains of classical music (like Scheherazade) wafting from the kitchen. The nuances of sound made this even better. SERVICE Our server, although clearly over busy as the dining room started to fill up, was very friendly and refilled the tea pot for us too without us needing to ask. She checked in with us during the meal and thanked us for coming in. She also paid attention when one of the two women at the table next to us didn't finish her noodles. She asked if something was wrong. No, said the diner, it was a large serving and she couldn't eat that much at one time. Good to know, said the server, because the cook does not like plates with uneaten food coming back to the kitchen. If that happens, he expects her to know if there was a problem and what can be done to make the guest happy. Delightful. THIS N THAT: 1) PARKING: In private, aging, poorly maintained strip mall lot. 2) ACCESSIBILITY: Level in door and throughout. All seating is standard height. Enough clear floor space to get to most tables. Accessible parking in the lot does not meet Federal Law and State Codes. 3) NEIGHBORS: Chiang Mai is next door. Outpost of Asia Market at far end of lot.

Yelp
Sadly, there are few Asian restaurants left that make their own noodles. And that's in Hong Kong, the culinary capital of China. So to have an eatery in Boise where owner Chan Chun-Chung crafts his own egg noodles, that is pretty special. The Noodle is a place where many potential first-time visitors may be turned off by the clutter of plants inside the front door and the rather drab decor. However, this is authentic Hong Kong -- where Chan grew up -- at its best. It's not about the building, it's about the food. If you think sauces dominate Chinese cooking and that a General Tso chicken is a real dish. you need to go to PF Chang's, Panda Express and their ilk. However, if you want bright dishes where the ingredients themselves shine, Wok Inn Noodle is the place for you. Three decades ago, I was introduced to the Wok Inn Noodle on Idaho Street. Sadly, it no longer exists, but the original Orchard Street location remains in a nondescript strip mall at Emerald street, wedged between a smoke shop and a bar. Chan is getting older and it's just him in the kitchen, so service may be slow, but oh, is it ever worth it. I recommend the House Noodles, which includes chicken, beef and shrimp stir fried with an assortment of vegetables and noodles paired with a subtle sauce. Hong Kong Chinese complain that in the United States sauces are too dominant and become the taste of the dish, rather than complement it. Chan sticks to the authentic style and it's the reason he puts out the best Chinese food in Boise. And don't expect a fortune cookie. Because they don't exist in Asia.

Yelp
This place was bizarre. Apparently, according to the server, the cook Makes one meal at a time. That means that if you are there with three other people the first person is going to get their plate, then they are going to start making the next persons plate which is gonna take five or 10 minutes etc. Plates don't come out at the same time, not even close. Overall it was also very slow even Though it was not busy at all. The food did come out piping hot. That's a good thing. But if you wait for everybody else to get their plate before you start eating, yours is gonna be stone cold if it was more the first ones to come out. I thought the flavors were OK. Prices inexpensive.

Yelp
Not a fan. We asked to sit down and was told we had a 20 minute wait, which is fine I guess....I mean there was only one other table with 2 people in the place, but okay. My daughter's plate came out long before mine.....I had to ask for soy sauce because there was not any on the table and she seemed to roll her eyes. Service was pretty cold to us, but friendly with the other table, as they seemed to be regulars. Won't be going again.

Yelp
There's only one chef back there, and he's in his 80s. He makes it one dish at a time. A group of six was dining when we were there, and all of their dishes came out separately. If you show up at 12:30 hoping to be back to the office for your one hour lunchtime, it's probably not going to happen. If you show up at 2:15, he might be closed. The hours aren't on the door because, as one server tells us, he might be tired. Call well ahead for take-out. The wait is SO worth it. Dad & I shared the House Noodle dish and there was plenty of lunch for both of us. The veggies were fresh and the sauce was divine. And who can match fresh-pulled noodles!? We got a free fresh egg roll for checking in with the Yelp app. The only thing fancy is the flavor. Everything else about this place says "DIVE" -- but aren't you at a restaurant to eat? Hop in there. Don't wait. He IS in his 80s.
