The 14 Best Dumplings In Philly

"Wokano on Washington has a menu as long as a CVS receipt, including a ton of dumpling options. We understand if you want to try them all, but it's the seafood crystal dumpling you'll be thinking about 48 hours after your meal. These soft, chewy dumplings taste sweet and onion-y at the same time, and you can see all the colors of the crab, shrimp, and vegetables through their paper-thin skin. " - candis mclean

The 14 Best Dim Sum Spots In Philly - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"South Philly’s Wokano has the classic setup with carts, big families, chandeliers, and tablecloths. It's easy to get swept up in all the egg tarts, fried squid, and king crab claws in your peripheral vision. Our favorites here, though, are the seafood crystal dumplings. They have translucent, paper-thin skin that clings to the filling like a t-shirt in a rainstorm. Like most places on the list, Wokano opens before noon (10:30am), but the menu stays the same throughout the day. " - Candis Mclean

Wokano Chinese Cuisine Review - South Philly - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Things aren’t simple at Wokano - there are more dumpling choices than coupons attached to a CVS receipt. Even though you’ll want to try them all, the seafood crystal dumpling is the one you should order. With a paper-thin skin that clings to the filling like your t-shirt does after you get stuck in the rain, you’ll see the color of the crab, shrimp, and vegetables peeking through the skin. These soft and chewy bite dumplings are both savory and sweet, and you get a blend of mild onion-y spice in each bite." - Candis R. McLean

We had a rather unfortunate experience that ruined the meal and tainted my opinion on the restaurant. Halfway through our meal, I needed to use the restroom. When I opened the door to the woman’s room and stepped in, my foot was immediately greeted by a splash. One of the toilets overflowed, making the bathroom completed flooded with an inch of water with either dirt or feces floating around. When I told our server, she seemed to not care at all. I then tried the men’s room. Well, the drain must have clogged which caused flooding in there as well, so the only stall was also filled with dirty water! I was unable to use the restroom, even to wash my hands, and I stepped in the disgusting water. Needless to say, this ruined the entire experience and the staff did not seem to care. Food was just okay. Some was made to order, some was in carts. My favorite was the fried taro and pork dumpling. It tasted like thanksgiving! Pork buns did not have enough filling. Many of the dishes lacked flavor and seasoning. We went on a Monday, and it was not crowded. Our server seemed to avoid us after I complained about the toilets and we had to flag her down multiple times. Overall, it was way too expensive for regular dim sum, service was rough, and we had to go to another place after since I still had to pee. Would not return.

Google
Still have traditional Dim Sum served on a carts. Spacious, relax atmosphere. Attracted by the free parking on a mall complex. Ordered 20 items for about $120, average $6 - $7 each, except the specially ordered ones. Not many places remained with this type of cooking. Hope that the prices are more clearly displayed on the menu.

cool

Google
Pretty good place for dim sum. I like the shrimp shumai. They offer take out too. Jellyfish was aight. Stuffed Crab claws are soo delicious. I had sesame balls for dessert. Parking in the plaza is always trash.

Google
Somebody strongly recommended this restaurant for its dim sum, saying that it’s the most authentic Chinese dim sum restaurant she had ever been to. And it’s free parking! So I bothered myself to go across the state to give it a try. I ordered several steamed or fried dim sum. It turned out that most of them were very salty and full of MSG! I felt thirsty right away after a couple bites of food. It kept me thirsty ever since, even now it’s past 5pm, I still feel very thirsty! For the inside environment, it’s pretty spacious and with wide pathways, you don’t feel as crowded as other Chinese restaurant. For the outside parking, it’s free but because it shares the parking lot with a super market and other stores there, it took half an hour for me to finally got a space. Weekdays should be easier, I guess.

The fried noodles were burned, and the ho fun was completely flavorless. I ordered the Buddhists delight and that was a mistake. Avoid at all costs.

grace field

Google
Just okay. Came around 6 pm, two waitresses are busy with their phones, we have to flag them to order food. Steamed shrimp stuffed with tofu comes as about we are leaving. We dont know if it will take more than 30 mins to cook it.

Google
One of the best dim sums in the city. Very convenient that it is in south philly. Service is awesome as well, they are on top of your every need

Google
The lamb soup with yellow vermicelly noodles was the best one. The lobster was excellent, so was the fried duck which you can eat with a certain (black) sauce. I liked the crab soup as the appetizer. Contradictory to the OK food was the waiters who had grumpy faces. I do believe service should be part of a success of a restaurant. Therefore, their food woud definitely taste better if the waiter(s) had a smile on their face, or at least can say "thank you" which was never mentioned; which could probably because they were never trained to. It looked like as if they were dragged to work there.

Yelp
Clean and remodeled interior which makes it looks nicer and cleaner than when this place was Wakano. Dimsum is served all day - so can satisfy craving if you have it. The have a picture menu so you can see what your ordering. Price ranges $4.95 to $12.95 Service was nice and attentive so thats a plus.

Yelp
Tried out this new Chinese restaurant located on Washington Ave. It was interesting to see something other than a Vietnamese restaurant in this shopping complex. The place is so massive. They have a ton of seating with an interesting stage up front that had a big screen television projecting Chinese tv. The place offers dim sum all day. The condiments included sugar, vinegar, and soy sauce. The steamed dumplings were a lot bigger than I was used to. They only offered chopsticks so we had to ask for a fork because it was hard to grab without them. The streamed shu mai was my favorite of the dim sum dishes. I didn't really like the steam shrimp dumplings. We also got the lava bun. I really found the lava bun interesting. It was sweet since it seemed to have a liquid-like egg custard inside. This place is definitely authentic but the waiter was very helpful since we were really lost on what to order.

Yelp
The service at Furama is exceptional. I came with family for dinner during Memorial Weekend with several tables of customers already seated. The staff were attentive, friendly, and took great care in providing recommendations our family of 5 adults and 2 littles. I highly recommend the Cold King Crab to all seafood lovers. It was so delicious! My family had completely finished the whole plate! The Peking duck recommended by our lovely waitress Ying was also great! I've never had duck so crispy and delightful. The steamed buns and onions provided with the dish made it a fun "taco" making experience for our little ones. The atmosphere is pleasant with plenty seating available and a large center screen. I personally loved the lanterns hanging, and would make a great place to host large gatherings. 10/10 recommend! :)

Yelp
Friends who are on business trips strongly recommend that you come to their restaurant. There are many varieties and they are relatively fresh. Highly recommended: beef offal, fried squid, glutinous rice dumplings, snow skin durian. There are basically no bad dishes. Everything you order is delicious! The environment and service are very good

Yelp
Dim sum here is the best in the city. Food flavored perfectly and texture is spot on. The new owners have taken the worst spot and made it the top dim sum spot in Philly. I highly recommend

Yelp
Heinously bad. I ordered a rice plate for take out, directly calling the establishment. I spoke and discussed my order with one of the staff. I arrived in the mid-afternoon - family dinner time - no customers at all, and a male waiter greeted me. I mentioned that I had called in an order. He claimed no order was placed. I showed him the number I had called and when. It was the correct number apparently. All the staff spoke and agreed that no order had been placed. The man begged my patience and went to go to the kitchen. Then, another staff member found my order tucked in a corner, forgotten and neglected. I was handed my order. I paid and left. So someone took my order, and it was waiting for me yet no staff member had any idea - during the slowest time of the day - what it was. Also, take out orders are charged a fee, possibly it is the credit card fee? Possibly not? But it isn't specified. The menu price is $10, the price charged is $12.56 with no itemizing on the bill. I would NOT recommend.

Yelp
Service here bad as usual even though they switched owner. Food not fresh . My parents asked nicely for to-go box and the old lady ignored her 3x. And finally another old man came and got us some boxes. Not coming here again. Some employee need to be train for customer service.

Yelp
We came in for dim sum on a Today afternoon. The inside was bright and clean, and we were greeted promptly. Food was delicious, and service was attentive and quick. The location is perfect, located just off the interstate and in a strip mall with lots of other stores/restaurants. Prices are great too, especially coming from NYC. Will definitely come back.

Yelp
Furama is a lovely new Chinese restaurant that opened in October 2024 in the spot at S. 11th and Washington Ave where Wokano sat (and languished) for so long. After eating dinner there tonight, I can report that items from the dim sum menu are delicious and very fresh, and the service is excellent. My dining partner and I were the only ones in there; I'm hoping this review will help get the word out to fellow Philadelphians.
