Please don't go here!!! Lol. I don't want it to change all. I love it because it's filled with locals. Cocktails are creative and yummy. Variety of beers. People are friendly. You can talk to anyone and feel safe. If you smoke, please step away from the bar entrance and keep it down so we don't disturb Neighbors. It's a neighborhood bar. If you come here, Be cool, relax, be yourself.

Google
I'm always looking for places that don't have a TV on as the standard. Thank you for letting me enjoy a refreshing libation in peace! Quiet, calm atmosphere at 6pm. I asked for something interesting from the bartender and he said if I didn't like it he'd make me something else. Wow! I normally don't get that kind of treatment. Loved the Iron Man pinball machine and the name sake of the bar (Rufus the wolfhound) strutting his stuff. Whenever I'm in the area I'll be back.

Google
Comfortable, quiet, surprisingly spacious. Good house cocktails with nothing fussy or fiddly. Great taps. Quick, welcoming, and concise service. Excellent Wednesday trivia. Nothing more than it needs to be, nothing less than you would hope it to be. Highly recommended.

Google
Neighborhood bar with a cast of local characters. Great lighting, nice decor, jukebox, pinball & I believe a pool table as well. Modest prices for draft beer & I think cans might have been even more reasonable. Look for Chris behind the bar - he will make sure you never go thirsty plus has an ability to keep a conversation intriguing.

Google
Such a wonderfully terrible bar. It's so good you really shouldn't go. Highly recommend!

What a fabulous spot! Great drinks and kind bartenders!

Hell yeah. Great neighborhood bar.

Google
The place has vintage album covers on the walls. Feel like 1930s inside the building ! Dark, no windows. Will go back

Yelp
This place is so special! The bartenders give Incredible service and there is such a friendly vibe from everyone who knows what's up. Every person in the world would be happy to have a wolfhound in their life. I've been to a lot of bars and this one is remarkable.

Yelp
Great little neighborhood bar - love the cozy atmosphere with booths, wall decor, pinball machines & pool table. Bathrooms spacious and clean. Martinis tasty & not outrageously priced ($11 for Ketel One). Friendly barkeep - would return!

Yelp
I'm back 7+ years later to update my review... I like Wolfhound! It was the perfect place to spend a chill St. Paddy's day with friends. We happened to be staying in an Airbnb in the area and it was so great to take a 5 month stroll to get a drink out of the house. Music was great. Drink options were awesome. And dogs are allowed, which is important to me as a dog owner. My friends and I laughed at my old review because so much has changed since then (with me lol). Mainly I've gotten older and have so much more respect for chill bars like wolfhound. The decor is great and the added freebies from Jameson were a welcome surprise. This bar is truly up my alley now. I will be back whenever I'm in the area.

Yelp
They staff has consistently disrespected me and my friends. Particularly one of the male bartenders. He served me and/or my friends reluctantly and with attitude. We waited 2 minutes for even acknowledgment, then got served very poorly made cocktails from an obviously intoxicated bartender. Aviod at all costs

Yelp
I could not believe my recent visit to this much loved pub. We work nearby and many employees come here after work and at night to party. Friends had said it had changed My female bartender basically dropped the drink in front of me after an attempt to get her attention and not so much as a hi there. She seemed to be perfectly willing to smile To male Patrons but not the females. I then continued to listen to one hour of Hispanic music, and not the great tyke I live but some kind of retro Hispanic music. I even sent to my 30 ish children to see wtf and you they couldn't understand what the heck was going on. I asked the man next to Me who was 30 ish if he could understand the music he said no This is extremely sad especially since myeloma advertised as Irish pub

Sydney H.

Yelp
The service here was so bad, they don't care for their customers at all; we wanted to play the piano, no sign or anything and she said "the bartender is already upset we don't want to make him more upset". My husband knows how to play the piano and just wanted to try out but they were so rude about it and the service we will never go back.

Yelp
A really great neighborhood bar, friendly staff, clean and not sticky. No smoke inside although there is sometimes a gauntlet outside. This place will be truly incredible when Delirama opens next door as food is the only missing item here.
google avatar

Celeste M.

Yelp
Wolf house is now hosting DeliRama Jr in mornings. Enjoyed Chef Cash pastrami. You can even get brunch drinks and enjoy dive bar vibe

Nobe H.

Yelp
I went to the Wolfhound last night, had the best time ever. The bartender was playing some amazing Cumbia and everyone was totally vibing. There was this strange older lady there that was being a bit of a Karen, the bar took care of it and told her to leave. Much respect. Love the Hound, coming back soon!

Nathan V.

Yelp
Do not go here, Absolute shit bar, your job is to sell alcohol to people and you manage to make that a bad time. The bartender was an absolute dick for no reason at all we were kind and polite and it wasn't packed or anything, I've been a bartender and I would fire that guy in a heartbeat

Yelp
A perfectly fine dive bar. They have a few beers on tap and some seating inside. They have a fairly good liquor selection as well.

Hotsy T.

Yelp
This place was when Anthony was the manager. When I show up lately dyeing a heat wave none of the fans are on, the front door isn't covered, its 100° and 3 out of 5 of my fave beers are out on the tap. It's dope to have a manager that is low key but also totally on it. He knows what he's doing and it's nice to come "home" to that after a long day of public school teacher capitalism. Alas, its the end if an era. This neighborhood bar is on my back burner.

Gina G.

Yelp
No food here. The service was great considering it was a packed trivia night, This is a cutesy dive bar with weekly trivia nights and a pool table and pinball machine. I don't have any complaints except they need more tables for trivia night! My group of 8 were huddled around a small table that's usually meant for 4 people tops. Also, extra points for this bar because they're dog friendly!!!

Yelp
It's been awhile since I was so immediately and utterly charmed by a bar. I wish I lived closer/this was my neighborhood bar! The bartender was the perfect dude: welcoming, quick to make our drinks and make me another when he mixed up/misheard what I ordered, good with banter and efficient about greeting and making everyone feel comfortable while fielding orders by himself. All three drinks we had (Hemingway, Smoky Hound, and Fire in the Hound) were delicious and different, alternatively refreshing, smoky, and tart with a bite. They are stronggg and such a good deal for $10. I was prepared after reading reviews that they were cash-only, but to my pleasant surprise they do take card now! The decor is cool, jukebox fun, and overall I could easily see why there were obvious regulars rolling through on a Monday night. Best of all: dog friendly, even indoors!

Yelp
Came here after dinner, and it's a conveniently located dive bar but personally wasn't my cup of tea after the first experience. Our group of four ordered drinks but one drink was forgotten; members of our group checked up on it twice and we ended up having to reorder after the second time. I had the Hemingway and it was strong - definitely did the job. I feel like this is more of a bar for groups of 2-3 people.

Yelp
Seems like an ok place to drink. I only went here a couple times with my best friend. The bar tender was brief with me and gave me my drinks. It was interesting that Wolf Hound is almost in Emeryville.
google avatar

Amber Marie C.

Yelp
This spot is a great little local dive bar, walking distance from my house. It's a cool spot to grab a cold beer or one of their signature cocktails made by their friendly bartenders. They have rotating taps for variety of great beers and I'm never disappointed. They offer pool and old school video games in their back room as well as ample spots to sit besides the bar. The bathrooms are surprisingly clean for a bar that's usually pretty packed.
google avatar

Denise C.

Yelp
Wolfhound was a surprising dive bar in Emeryville, CA. It had a fun, quirky atmosphere. I noticed all the decorations, which were shabby bar chic. My fellow field hockey players(coed) had some beers and moscow mules. It was a nice outing with this group and very East Bay. Fun adventures in the bay today.
google avatar

Jeremy C.

Yelp
Updated review to include some photos. What i said a month ago still remains true: great ambience and good people = good times.
google avatar

Yelp
Public & friendly bar with amazing bartenders, Greg is polite and professional, Kenya is super chill and an artist, and Meghan is full of smiles and stylish!
google avatar

Katherine S.

Yelp
Ended up here rather randomly; was hanging out in the East Bay and wanted to do something low-key. They drinks were potent, the vibe was very chill. Good music; played pool. Three cocktails and a pint cost $34...a bargain in these parts. Loved it and will go back.
google avatar

Chris P.

Yelp
They will ban you for asking if they can play prince. Bar tender was having a bad day and they banned even giving my dog some water.
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
All right, I think it's time for an update. Wolfhound has slowly grown on me as some new friends like to frequent the bar. Their beer selection has greatly improved and usually they have at least a couple darker beers aka stouts and porters. Mixed drinks definitely taste a bit stronger than my original watered down experiences. And they've got some interesting cocktails that are a bit out of the ordinary. Current staff also super friendly and very attentive. I'm now a bit more regularly coming back...
google avatar

Yelp
It's dark, it's sexy, they serve $9 (cash only) cocktails. I wasn't planning on coming here but I met up with a friend about a mile away and we were feeling particularly frisky for an adult beverage so we decided to walk our asses over and check it out. Of course, this is after we decided to not go to a closer bar because it was cash only and before we realized that Wolfhound was also cash only. Oh, but not just cash only - cash only with a broken ATM. Wooof. Woofhound. My drinking partner, luckily, happened to have more cash than we'd previously thought so were able to get not one round, but two, because the drinks and atmosphere were so incredible that it honestly would have been worth it to leave to find a working ATM (although, ridiculous so please get the cash machine fixed or take card. Square is a wonderful invention.) to partake in that next round. The bartenders are cool, the seating is somewhat limited but it wasn't at all crowded when we popped in so we were able to snag and intimate corner pew under the miscellany artwork and jukebox, which only played incredible music - interpol, bjork, more bjork... actually they were kinda rocking A LOT of bjork which isn't necessarily my bar music style but you know what? Unconventional, spontaneous - I dug it. Maybe not always, but in that moment it was stellar. Somehow one drink turns into two and the short pitstop ended up being hours that resulted in there no longer being daylight and having to do a bit of a buddy-system walk back to the car in the dark. It had been quite a while since I've had that much fun and conversation and I totally think the atmosphere (and of course, alcohol) contributed to that.

Katarina T.

Yelp
Best bar in Oakland. Great drinks, and great watering hole for local weirdos like myself.
google avatar

Yelp
Some of the Nicest peeps in the bar/entertainment business and all around great Chaps! Great music, nice people, and a top notch staff! Cheers to them all.
google avatar

Roland N.

Yelp
I've always thought that the best bars have fewer than 3 stars, so it grieves me to say Wolfhound is a 5-star joint. Trivia on Tuesdays. Two pinball machines, a pool table, a jukebox. Attentive bartenders, plenty of dogs demanding to be pet, and strong drinks. Double props to the bartenders for tolerating us after the strong drinks. There's also a piano. Don't be the person playing the piano when the jukebox is going!

Yelp
What a great find! Cool neighborhood dive bar. Our favorite places to hang out. This place has a laid back atmosphere with a nice friendly bartender on lazy Sunday afternoons. We sat in the back room among the pool table and pinball machines. Relaxed in a booth taking in an amazing mural that had every cool band poster you could imagine. You can sit back here and look at poster designs for every significant band in the late 20th century. From David Bowie to Jimi Hendrix to the Beatles to the Jackson Five to Nina Simone to The Rolling Stones, the Kinks, Gorillaz, Tom Waites, Aretha Franklin, Elvis Presley, Bill Withers, the list goes on and on! I love this place! It's a great place for musicians to relax.
google avatar

Darius W.

Yelp
Dim-lit, old school Cool Keith blaring, all eyes on me (no Tupac) from the random portraits on the wall, and at the end of the bar sits an older gentleman who surprisingly makes great small talk that provides narration for such a scene. What do I make of this place? Wolfhound feels like a 90s-inspired underground bar where the Beastie Boys or your local up-and-coming band could play and everyone would mosh peacefully or lock arms while singing along. While I took in the scene as a first-timer, I will say the bartenders are friendly and the crowd very inviting. This bar appears to be about "community," meaning there are regulars, hence the old man at the end of the bar with me. If you want a place where everybody knows your name (queue Cheers music), Wolfhound is affordable, entertaining, and simultaneously low-key. I'd go again just to people-watch and or narrate the scene for newcomers.
google avatar

Rebekah V.

Yelp
Nice spot, they have a pretty good selection, good prices and are game to support local community groups. Fun vibe and the cliental are always friendly. My group of friends loves coming here and you can often find one of us here on a weekend night.

Yelp
Wolfhound is small for a neighborhood bar. BUT it's rare to have a bar in this part of town. many antique looking pics (ala B-side BBQ) on the wall featuring chieftans, damsels, dogs, sexy ladies, gentlemen, cavalry, military higher ups, landscape, fighting ships, etc. didn't see a theme, unknown if all are authentic. spirits: 10 drafts, lots or artisanal liquors and regular spritits. specials: Jameson & PBR (7) brew: sculpin (5) HH, 4-8 ($1 off drafts) -hoppy, has bite. on draught: -everyone is carded here, per request of of Emeryville P.D. remember to bring i.d. or some facimile thereof.... -smiling, laughing, cheerful service. -place is small, seating for 30, at most..... -internet jukepop plays the hits for coins.
google avatar

Andy C.

Yelp
This is a beautiful bar with a great beer selection and an even better juke box selection. It's a good crowd of mostly people from the neighborhood but also the owner and his Irish wolfhound for whom the bar is named. We had a few beers and enjoyed the atmosphere. This is a great neighborhood bar. I'm so happy they chose to open up here.

Benjamin C.

Yelp
Good cheap drinks, day or night. With a trees lounge feel in the front and the pool room in the back. The photos tie the room together. Bukowski would of hated it. My kind of place.
google avatar

James G.

Yelp
This is such a great neighborhood bar. And the signature drinks are surprisingly delicious for a really great price. A great dive feel, but clean and well maintained. All or this would probably earn a 4 star. But dog friendly, you get 5 stars.
google avatar

Yelp
The owner Chris appears to be insane. I have been a regular patron at Wolfhound for the last few years, tipping well, bringing them new business, and I am in my 50's and have always behaved well. I've been supporting these guys in their efforts to expand their business by writing letters to local politicians, and have never been a problem there. Been to their trivia nights. I'm a good guy. That's why I was so surprised by what just happened. On the way in Chris, the owner, meets me outside and asks me for id for no apparent reason. I tell Chris he must be kidding and walk in. He follows me in and demands id. I tell him to F-off, and I can tell he's serious and about to kick me out of his bar, for no reason. So I tell him this is the last time I will ever be in his establishment. Seriously, he chased this old time patron, gray-haired and over 50-years old, who is always polite, well dressed, and tips well, out of his establishment just because I didn't show id. He and his dog are out of my orbit now. Avoid this crappy establishment at all costs. I don't know what kind of weird stuff is going on at the Wolfhound now, but I can tell you I will never be back. Chris told me he never reads Yelp so I don't expect this feedback will reach him. Maybe he should read the reviews of the place he owns. And why am I not surprised that a former bar tender there told me she quit because she was sexually abused there by a co-worker? Do not give these guys your business. There are better local dive bars. Look at Missouri Lounge, The Avenue, Radio, Kingfish, and other local dive bars instead. Or upgrade to the Honor Kitchen a few blocks down and up your dive.
google avatar

Eric M.

Yelp
I've never been a bar guy. This place is opening my eyes to a wonderful dressed in black crowd that listens to good dark durgy music. I am now a bar guy for this place. They pour heavy for $9 a cocktail. Great place to meet unpretentious locals. Always friendly, no bros, no fights, not an agreeable pickup scene, smart people with good senses of humor.
google avatar

Carlet A.

Yelp
Just love this bar. Great ambience, complete with pool table and pinball machines. Great wallpaper too!
google avatar

Pete C.

Yelp
Great dive bar, excellent decor, interesting crowd, unpretentious. Pool table in the back.

Yelp
In the name of fairness. I have been here several times at shift change and noticed that the drinks arent a consistent price. There's a bartender named Megan whom i believe to be raising the price so she can pocket the difference. I've met the owner (chris and his dog) a few times and he seemed like a nice guy so i hope he reads this and watches his money better. Megan, stop stealing your bosses money. Besides what i noticed about the inconsistency in drink prices, Wolfhound is a pretty decent bar in a part of oakland that is a lot safer than it used to be. Drinks are fairly priced. Im giving this bar 4 stars and im taking one off for feeling victimized by dishonest bartenders. Ill add the star back when the owner finds an honest employee to watch his business. Trust is a sacred thing, between owner and employees and between businesses and their customers. I wouldnt have even wrote this review if it didn't happen more than a few times. Call me a hater or a snitch i dont care, im looking out just like i would want someone to lookout for me if i was being cheated.
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
Showed up on a Saturday evening around 10 and it was pretty dead. Specials were $9. I had the blood and sand but was made with scotch that dos not go well in the drink. My sister had a vodka cranberry and could not drink it. As we sat there at the bar to drink the bartender stood in front of us and glared until we paid. Normally you wait until they ask to close their tab. Also the bartender and door guy were taking shots of Jameson.
google avatar

J M.

Yelp
Good local hang! Very good brew selection and clean lines deliver a great tasting pint. Laid back tenders. I visit when I'm in town, nice to get away from the stuffy trend, etc. Most of the positive reviews are right on the money!
google avatar

Michael M.

Yelp
This is the bar you don't tell anyone about for fear it will become ruined. Yet here we are. Charm, it has it. Personable and fun bartenders, yup! (See Mitch) Decor that neither tries too hard or too little. Yes. Dog friendly, fuck yeah! Come, drink, but don't tell your friends about it unless they are phenomenal, stupendous freaks of beautiful nature who won't ruin it. Seriously, don't do it!
google avatar

Ian C.

Yelp
I'm new to the area and wanted a place that I could walk to and have a quick drink. This place seemed like a typical dive bar when I first entered. High in energy, chill crowd, but so awesome that you can bring your little furry friends inside! Prices good, bartenders knew their stuff, and chill environment. Id recommend this place and am coming back with my doggo for sure!
google avatar

Gina B.

Yelp
Everyone is awesome! Also $2 Modelos rock if you're a broke mofo like me. I love all the bartenders, they are nice most of the time. Except for one of them, just don't ask for hot toddys when it's busy AF during the weekends (duh!) Anyway, it is my local and I adore it till the ends of the earth. They need new pool sticks though because no one likes to play pool seriously with just a baby stick. Regulars are friendly and will be your friends forever if you let them.
google avatar

Erik R.

Yelp
Great little neighborhood bar. Nice beer selection, pretty decent back bar, and awesome bartenders. Only downside... It's a bit tooooo close to home. Danger! (As if that's really a bad thing...) 5 solid stars
google avatar

Iliea S.

Yelp
Hey, man, a great little bar in my neighborhood finally! Tuesday night is trivia night. Cocktails are ok, and they have a decent selection of liquors. The music is pretty nice most nights too. Great service, and a real wolfhound mascot roaming around. i forgot to check in a bunch, but i have already been here 5 times, and i plan to return many times till they are sick of me.
google avatar

Kc L.

Yelp
Feels like my hometown dive bar with a better booze selection. Great shit on the walls good shit on tap. David Bowie on the juke box tonight and that's quite alright.
google avatar

Delilah B.

Yelp
Stoped I'm here for drinks on a Saturday night. It was super quiet, the bartender was good and we played some pool and hung out for a bit. Nice little neighborhood bar; reasonable prices.
google avatar

Rion M.

Yelp
Fun place, nice staff and good drink specials. love the old jukebox and the pool area is nice. Shout out to Chris the door guy.
