Today, I had a chat with the owner and discovered he's a Korean-Chinese from Yanbian, fluent in both Chinese and Korean. His service was exceptional, honest, and humble. A definite five-star experience.
The service was excellent, but the real standout was the taste! We ordered the $65 pork combo, and the quality of the meat was top-notch, free from the unpleasant pork smell often found in American meat. Next time, I plan to bring friends and try the pork and beef combo.
Having tried numerous Korean BBQ places in Los Angeles, Dallas, and even famous spots in Seoul, I must say that Won BBQ genuinely impressed us. The freshness and deliciousness of the meat were basic expectations, but the real challenge was the "banchan" (Korean side dishes). It's difficult to make every side dish taste amazing, but they nailed it! Every single dish was so good!
The flavor and service were on par with the famous BBQ spots we've tried in Seoul and Los Angeles' Koreatown. After this meal, we ranked this place as our top Korean BBQ. (Even if you don't want BBQ, their seafood pancakes and tofu stew are great options.)
A special mention goes to their kimchi. It was so delicious that it almost made me cry! It was perfectly balanced without the overly fermented sour taste we dislike. We even asked the owner if they sell it separately, but he humbly explained that it's house-made and not for sale, noting that kimchi flavor varies daily.
Their side dishes are refillable, and the second round might feature different items, but every dish remains consistently delicious!
The combo also comes with steamed eggs, cheesy corn, and soybean paste soup. While I found the soup a bit salty, my companion thought it was perfectly rich. Typically, steamed eggs and corn aren't refillable at other places, but the owner generously brought us extra when we asked.
The owner put great care into the menu, down to the table sauces and lettuce with wasabi, all tasting excellent. The meat presentation was also meticulous.
Table service was impeccable, with the owner personally grilling the meat to perfection--crispy and juicy.
We didn't hesitate to tip 20% for lunch (we usually tip 15% for lunch and 20% for dinner). This place is a solid 20% for us in the future!
Dallas folks, if you haven't been, you need to try this place! It's truly eye-opening with every bite.
For those not in Dallas, save this spot on your Maps for your next visit. Don't miss it!
