I went in as soon as they opened, and they had a great selection of donuts, other pastries, calzones, danishes and more I.Also saw a box of day olds for 9 dollars . This box had to have 40 plus pastries in it. It was so worth it.

We ordered our wedding cake through Woodlea Bakery and we were so happy!!! Everything was to order and the cake came out amazing!! They listened to what we wanted and made it happen. The cake was a hit and we really only had the top tier to take home as everyone enjoyed!! I returned to them for other baked goods and haven't been disappointed. We will return for any other specialty needs as well as daily wants!!

Google
Fantastic bakery! We used Woodlea Bakery (Bel Air Rd) for both our daughter’s Wedding and Daughter In Law’s baby shower. The Wedding cake (front & back pictures) is a 5 tiered, 5 flavored design by Charles. He personally delivered the creation and worked with the florist and wedding planner to garnish the cake. The Shower Cake is a 2 tiered, 2 flavor creation that we picked up. It was expertly packaged and they helped load it in the car. My wife brought a reference photo for the cake and they made it exactly as she envisioned. This is the original bakery, a landmark in the area and an absolute diamond!

WOODLEA BAKERY has been a staple in Baltimore for 60+ years! Most of us know their Bel Air Road location, but, they also have a location in Bel Air, MD. All their products are SMACK!💥 That includes donuts, pastries, birthday cakes, you name it! Woodlea Bakery is Quick Bite approved!

Google
Delicious! They have the best doughnuts and cakes. I'm a baker's daughter, and I can tell they are made from scratch. I recently ordered their giant doughnut, and it didn’t disappoint! I hope you enjoy it!

Google
I ordered a strawberry cake on 2-9-2025.It was for 2 birthdays sister #50& Dad 69 . They went out of their way to make this perfect cake Gluten free. We will always always be getting cakes & all baked goods from.them . Best cake ever 😋 😍 ❤️

baskt team!

Google
The giant 🍩 donut was fluffy, light and kept going after it insistently. The mini German chocolate bite and strawberry cheese cake bite was divine. Bought my mom's 75th bday cake, carrot cake🥕! I'll be back to review it

Google
We visited the Bel air location for the first time this past Sunday as I saw on your Facebook page you had authentic marshmallow doughnuts. I haven’t had one in like 30 years since my Baltimore days and I will say you did not disappoint. Just as good as I remember. We will definitely be back!

Yelp
I know this is a long-standing bakery but I was not impressed. I tried the apple turnover and some of the mini-sweets. All were overly sweet chock full of processed ingredients. I may give some of the other items a try if I find myself back that way, but not in a rush to return. On a positive note, the service was quick and friendly.

Yelp
My favorite bakery in Baltimore! Everything is always fresh. The inside is clean and the staff are always super friendly. Some of my favorites are the yellow cake with chocolate frosting, the marshmallow donuts, the cheesecake bites, the birthday cakes & the apple fritters. Everything is also very reasonably priced. My family uses this bakery for every occasion!

Yelp
Everything is always fresh...just enough sugar just enough everything cakes, pies, bread, donuts, pastries etc... The staff is so efficient, and pleasant. They. Even have a table or two just case you cannot wait to get home to enjoy your treats. They can get a little busy however the wait is never long.

Yelp
I love this small bakery, everything is always fresh. So as I'm driving down Belair rd I hear on the radio it's national doughnut day. It must be fate cause I looked to my right and I'm sitting right in front of the bakery, i whipped that car around like a scene from the fast and the furious right into an open parking spot in front of the store. I ended up getting strawberry shortcake and oh yea a doughnut as well.

Yelp
Just got the best German Chocolate Cake I have ever had in my life from here for my boyfriend's birthday... and I have eaten a lot of cake!

Ina E.

Yelp
Purchased the German Chocolate cake and carrot cake. Both a hit!!! You're never disappointed when you buy from this bakery! Thanks Woodlea

Yelp
Was surprised last night with a birthday celebration by friends. The cake was from Woodlea Bakery which I had never heard of. Well, now I have. And now I'll go there because this cake was fantastic. The spongecake and frosting were fresh with plump strawberries. Beautiful.

Yelp
This is my favorite bakery. They always have fresh baked goods and reasonable priced. They did our wedding cake 7 years ago, and they also did my mom's wedding cake, so we love coming to Woodlea Bakey. The staff is always kind and they always greet you. Today's visit was to pick up a strawberry short cake for my anniversary dinner. I was hoping to get a large square cake, but they only had a round cake. They did try to offer me a huge square one, but it was just two of us. So I settled on the two single slices. I did tell her we will be back to get a 10 yr anniversary cake.

Yelp
Since moving to the area I've been maybe 4-5 times and it's always a great experience. The staff is always friendly and helpful with any questions you may have. I try to get something new each time so I can make my way through all of their options. This last visit I was finally able to try the big donut I'd heard about and it's pretty good. It's also huge! I also got an apple pie for my lunch the next day that was also delicious! I've tried different flavors in other visits and everything was great. I'll definitely be back, because it's right up the street and I pass it all of the time.

Yelp
Molded cake! just bought a cake for my Marine son's Welcome Home celebration and it was disgustingly riddled with mold! What a big disappointment! Of course, I dug in to the taste of rotten fish in my mouth. I think an old cake was purposely set aside for me to buy, if I was judging by the unfriendly nature of the person that answered the phone 730 this morning. Who do they have working for them???Woodlea, you have a staff person (young, female) that is sabotaging your business and will cost you money. I will contact the health department and send pics of this cake!

Antonia J.

Yelp
Woodlea Bakery has been my family's favorite bakery for DECADES!!! The CAKES ARE ALWAYS FRESH, and the staff are always friendly. Call two days or more to order your fresh baked cake and you will see why WE LOVE WOODLEA BAKERY soooo soooo much !! CAKES SO GOOD I FORGOT I HAD ALREADY LEFT A REVIEW

Yelp
First visit to Woodlea -- massive success! My wife is a lifelong Fenwick Bakery loyalist but they are closed on Sundays so I volunteered to try Woodlea when visiting Baltimore. We got: Donuts - huge and great. My wife was impressed and rated the marshmallow donuts bigger and better than Fenwick's. Boston Cream and glazed yeast also huge and good. Smearcase- a Balto fave of mine. Big slab, really creamy. 10/10 Bread pudding cup - excellent, especially if you're a fan of vanilla sauce. Verdict: top notch.

Yelp
A real Baltimore treasure right here - there are only a few left and this one of them.

Yelp
My family and I have gone to Woodlea Bakery for years but over the years especially within the last two we have all noticed a change in not only the ingredients but the customer service as well. My brother preordered a birthday cake for his wife to be picked up the next day. When I went to pick the cake up I immediately noticed the icing was cracking all over. I went back into the store in to explain that the cake looked old and the older clerk who assisted me made me feel as though I did something wrong. I have gotten numerous cakes from this bakery and none of them have EVER looked like what I picked up yesterday. The clerk insisted the cake was fresh and said the icing cracked because it was probably moved around in the box. This still doesn't make sense to me and I had only had the cake in my possession for less than five minutes, I didn't even make it to my car as you can see the picture attached is me standing outside of their bakery. The only time I've noticed icing cracking or chipping is if the cake has sat for some days and harden. Buttercream icing shouldn't crack if it's fresh. I felt like a lot of time was wasted on deciding how to resolve the issue when the prime solution should have been to either remake a fresh cake or provide me with something similar the moment I brought the cake back into the bakery. The clerk who assisted me also stated the cake I was picking up was the same cake my brother picked out. All of the icing on the other similar birthday cakes in their display case looked soft and fresh, why was the icing on the cake that I was picking appearing hardened and cracked? Why would you pass off product that is subpar? If I were running a bakery that very cake would have NEVER crossed my counter and into a customers hands. I went to pick this cake up on my lunch break and because of this situation I was late getting back to work. In the end I was given a different cake which looked much more fresh and the icing was not cracking all over which I am grateful for. However, Woodlea Bakery will not EVER get my business again or my families business who have been coming there for over 20 years. I typically don't write reviews unless I feel like I have to and in this case it was needed. This experience has left a bad taste in my mouth just like the pastries I bought from them not too long ago which is sad because they used to be very delicious. You can tell that their ingredients have changed in their pastries and other baked goods. The good quality in their desserts is no longer there. Please save your money and support a different stand alone bakeries or grocery store bakeries.

Yelp
Favorite new bakery been there twice they serve Zeke's coffee. They have donuts about a foot in diameter donuts as big as your face I'm still wondering what to do with them aside from the shock value. The mega donuts come in glazed and chocolate frosted. I like regular glazed donuts because that's the way I like them at Krispy Kreme, they have glazed donuts here and the same size donut shape like a pretzel. I am very happy with our regular glazed donuts here because they're not Doughy. Another favorite here is the little bite-size chocolate cupcakes with cream cheese in them. They have bite-size cheesecakes also with three different jellies on top. I'm still really infatuated with this place so my reviews will be slanted on the high side.

Dani N.

Yelp
Incredible baked goods . We absolutely loved the carrot cake that we got. I look forward to it every year go see them.

Sonia G.

Yelp
Best jelly doughnut I ever ate. They make them with powder sugar, but I prefer granulated sugar and they accommodated me. First the yeast dough is perfectly fluffy with a perfect crust then they generously fill them with the most delicious jelly. Every bite is full of jelly! Make sure you have plenty of napkins.

Yelp
MMMMMMMMM! My first instinct when I think of this bakery. After experiencing them of course. This is the number one bakery in Charm City!!

Yelp
Taste & Quality = 5/5 Value = 4.5/5 Customer Service = 4.5/5 Location = 2/5 Total = 4.5/5 Woodlea Bakery is a piece of living history in Northeast Baltimore and a good "relic" from the golden years when shops Belair Road and Harford Road had seen their better years. For people not familiar with the area, it has gone through a dramatic transformation in terms of who left and who's moved into the neighborhood. Woodlea is next to 2 barbershops and a liquor store. Despite my ever increasing waistline despite working out, I finally took the plunge to drive on Belair Road, to find a parking spot on the street (which could be a challenge), and walked into the Woodlea Bakery. I'm a simple man who enjoys simple things. Strawberry Shortcake with fresh strawberries is in my top 5 favorite cakes of all time. Woodlea did not disappoint. Ordered a round one they had in the fridge for about $15 - absolutely delicious. Strawberries were fresh and the cake itself very moist with the fresh cream. The strawberry cream pie for about $9 was also great. Again, fresh strawberries with fresh cream. The young ladies working at the shop were very friendly, albeit a little rusty on the current prices since apparently they recently changed them. Even on a random Saturday afternoon with bad weather, in the 5 mins I was in the store, there were 4 other customers making a purchase - always a good sign of a place's quality and reputation. Will need to try their peach cake next time!

Yelp
I came here and I bought rice pudding and I let them know that the rice was extremely hard and I could not eat it. They acted like they did not care then I had a coworker buy the rice pudding again today this is a month after I bought mine and the rice is still completely hard. This is ridiculous.

Yelp
Came early Sunday morning to try out some of their donuts. They have a huge selection. Tried the chocolate and powdered sugar marshmallow cream donuts. It was amazing! Not terribly sweet (surprisingly). Also tried regular glazed and chocolate donut (all very good). Really friendly staff. They have a huge selection - bread, cookies, cakes, etc. will def be back.

Yelp
I ordered a custom cake for my daughter's 14th birthday. Every other bakery I contacted required 2-3 weeks notice for custom cakes. Woodlea only needed a few days and they did a beautiful job. My daughter was so surprised and happy. I also bought two dozen mini eclairs to take to my daughter's class and they were a huge hit. This bakery is about 30 minutes away from my house but totally worth the trip!

Yelp
Affordable. Varieties. Nice people. Parking around available. The lemon meringue I got was fresh but maybe too sweet. The lemon curd in it was nice and smooth. Will visit again.

Yelp
You walk in. You see a dated bakery, no flash, no fancy decor, no reclaimed wood. You get the peach cake, put it in the car, bring it back to NYC and share it with the family. The first bite is weird: The wall of sweetness that your brain is expecting doesn't materialize. The cake is subdued, almost like a sort of bread, but the peach is done perfectly and soon it floods your mouth with flavor. By the end of the second bite, you realize you have stumbled on to something wonderfully unique. By the end of it, you simply cannot fathom a trip to Baltimore without visiting this bakery. Oh, also, I'm an apple fritter guy. I get them whenever I can. Their apple fritter was one of the best I've every had. Their doughnuts are also top tier. No fancy flavors, just old school goodness.

Sarah C.

Yelp
Everything is delicious! Staff are amazing and friendly. Made a beautiful wedding cake for us that was gorgeous and tasted amazing. Seamless delivery to the venue and placement of fresh flowers on the cake. We will be back again and again and love to support this local family-owned business

Slewp J.

Yelp
I came here to get a German chocolate cake. They took a phone order and the cake was very good and quite fairly priced. I got some other mixed Danish pastry while there, which were also classic of the old style. The store was pleasant, spacious, clean, and the staff courteous and helpful. I would say they do what they do very well, including doughnuts, eclairs and cannoli. But other bakery preferences such as all manner of croissants, fruit tarts, etc, are not be found, which is why I gave them a 4. For what they do, it is a 5. Check it out! Parking on Bel Air road was easy on a Sunday.

Lisa R.

Yelp
Woodlea recently made a cake for my daughter's wedding--it was beautiful and tasted great. The price was better than any of the other bakeries I visited (and I visited quite a few!). Charles did a great job taking our order and making sure it turned out just as we expected. The cake was delivered right at the promised time and Charles (senior) decorated it on site with fresh flowers we provided. We also ordered a number of small pastries for the wedding reception that were very fresh and looked pretty--also at a great price. Other items we tried from the bakery were also very good--I love the strawberry and cream cake and my new son-in-law loves the mini cheesecakes. A very positive experience all around.

Yelp
Classic, old school bakery. I'm happy this is close to my house. Sometimes I don't want a donut that has fruity pebbles on it. Sometimes I want an old fashioned style shell donut with fluffy cream flowing out of it. You can't really go wrong. Needless to say, I've sampled several of their donuts and the marshmallow is my favorite. Fluffy, heavenly clouds. It is a bit hard to see what everything is, as I couldn't easily read the labels on everything. Service is always friendly and the items are cheap.

Yelp
I live in Los Angeles and wanted to order a 21st bday cake for my son who is in college in Baltimore. I yelped and with the great reviews here, decided to order a half flat sheet double layer of strawberry shortcake from Woodlea Bakery. I spoke to the owner, Charles, who kindly agreed to deliver the cake for an additional $15 on the day of the bday party. The cake came out beautiful (he texted me the picture)and my son and his friends totally enjoyed the cake. I would definitely recommend Woodlea Bakery!

Yelp
So I was introduced to Woodlea's as a child because my mom would frequent this bakery for all of her sweet cravings & special occasions. I first fell in love with their strawberry shortcake... YUM. And when I got older, my mom said she would purchase my wedding cake so we set up a tasting with Woodlea's as 1 of the options. Well I was SOLD! Number 1, their cakes are delicious! We settled on 3 layers with 1 of them being carrot cake and 2 being white cake with a raspberry filling. So scrumptious! I mean, multiple guests at my reception said that was the best wedding cake they ever tasted. The top tier (the 1 u freeze and eat a year later), was pretty much all we could save lol. But number 2, the price! Wedding cakes are known for their cost, highly overpriced, and I am happy to say that the cake was budget friendly. FYI, this is a review definitely overdue as I have been married for 6 years now lol. But ok, just recently I went back to Woodlea's and I have discovered their sticky buns! Omg I'm hooked. $1.40 each and soooo gooooddd. Eat it in the morn with a nice hot cup of coffee or tea, eat it as a late night sweet treat while watching your shows, or eat it solo in the car right outside the bakery because you couldn't wait another second for that ooey gooey, pecan topped pastry deliciousness! Ha! There's literally no wrong way to eat them lol. They're addictive. But seriously, I haven't tasted a sweet treat I didn't like at this bakery. And they are super friendly! Check them out... But please don't buy alllll the sticky buns, save me 1 for when I come back! :-)

Yelp
One of my longtime patients knew my very fav donut from Woodlea is the Marshmallow cream!! He drove a dozen down to my Arnold, MD office today for a surprise. They were fresh, perfect dough and the marshmallow cream was out of this world!! Thank you Woodlea Family! Mrs. H was one of my fav's! xoxo Highly recommend! so delish.

Yelp
Now listen!! You want a great tasting cake!? Look no further! Woodlea Bakery is the place you need to be. Friendly staff, great prices and super-good treats! I ordered my sister's 40th Birthday cake and used an edible photo to fit her old school hip hop theme. Place my order on a Thursday, picked my cake up on a Sunday! It was absolutely what we wanted! Bravo, WB!

Lorena D.

Yelp
1982 my dad brought home a box of Bavarian cream filled doughnuts. 10 year old me took her first bite of custard heaven. 40 years later, I drove to get these powder sugar delights, same location, different doughnuts. The magical custard has been replaced with pre- made, yellow, runny fakeness. Sadness for what once was.

Yelp
I just got off the phone with this bakery and I am outraged! I have called about 7 bakeries for price inquiries and one was sweeter than the other (pun intended!) until I called this place. The girl who picked up the phone was so rude! Who gave her a job answering phones and talking to people?? First of all, we call because we have questions. It's your job to answer them and it would be great if you were a little polite about it - since being nice is too much to ask. This girl didn't even let me finish asking questions about the cake I wanted to order! She was interrupting me and cutting me off the entire time, like she was doing me a favor taking my call! And then she just puts me on the phone with her manager mid-sentence! What? Why? The manager gets on the phone and justifies this with a "we're really busy." No you're just rude. This is a bakery... wtf. I wanted to know the price of a birthday cake. Guess what? It's $5 to email them! LET ME SAY THAT AGAIN - THEY CHARGE $5 TO RECEIVE AN EMAIL! As in, if you're gonna ask them about a cake you're thinking about ordering you literally have to pay for it. I have emailed 5 bakeries and all of them have either emailed back with a price or called back and spoke to me. NOT HERE. There are sooooooo many other bakeries to choose from. Why would anyone waste their time with rude employees, horrible customer service and charges before you even place an order. I wouldn't order a cake from this place if it was the last bakery in Maryland.
google avatar

Yana C.

Yelp
As others have said, the strawberry shortcake is damn good. We ordered a small one and a 1/2 double sheet cake for my baby shower and everyone loved them. Ordering was very easy, just 2 days before, with a 50% deposit and quick pick up. Couldn't help to get some peach cake (delicious), cannoli (good, not the specialty though), other mini treats when we were there. Even on a Sunday morning it's always very busy, which is a good sign. If I had any complaint, it's that the 1/2 sheet cake is huge! We were told it would feed 30 people, it easily could have fed 50. For a party of 30-40 I would recommend getting the 1/4 sheet cake.

Yelp
In the days where it's hard to find an old fashioned Mom and Pop's bakery, esp. in the inner city, it's nice to see that this place is still open and has stood the test of time. Walking in the store, I reminisce of old bakeries in Bmore that had the lower glass show cases - where the 1st thing you see are simply-made strawberry shortcakes, lemon meringue pies, smear case and peach cake (when in season). I'm glad that there's still a place Bmorians can go to get a dozen donuts that you can tell are freshly made (in house) and are the simple, but yummy assortments like you hopefully had the pleasure of experiencing while growing up. While I don't really eat this stuff (I spent too many yrs as a kid working in a bakery like this myself), I like that I can run in an get regular favs to grab quick and take to my Dad who still loves this stuff and speaks to his sweet tooth. The ladies that run the counter are from the area and give great service with a smile...and if you come in the shop during the time where a regular may walk in, you may catch a fierce (but respectful) debate about politics, local news, things going on in Bmore, etc. While nothing fancy, this place can still warm your heart with the feel of regular, classic, home-style bakery items that are tried and true...and sassy service given with a smile. Continue to patronize this local gem. It would be a shame to let a bakery, that's one of the last of its kind in the area, go out of business. You do get this kind of quality bakery items at Dunkin Donuts and such.

Yelp
A piece of living history in NE Baltimore. A long time coming in this review as I wanted to do it justice. I write this as a regular and Duke of the establishment. My waistline (despite running) is showing it. It is part of a somewhat bygone era found in ma and pa shops dotting northeast Baltimore on Belair and Harford roads. I've never had anything but donuts and coffee here but the peach cake is considered sacred. I'll get it today. There is history here that makes it special. John Hergenroeder, German-American, and the family baker/Patriarch died at 90 in the apartment above the bakery on Belair that was long the family home and business. It is a family bakery, it has roots of over a century...and it is great!!!!! There is a second location in the city of Belair but come here. They are famous for their marshmallow creme donuts which are unreal. The original is a powdered donut cut in half to a clam shell. The clam is filled inches high with the creme. They also have a chocolate topped one made the same way. They can be part of the $12 dozen donuts--all made from scratch at no extra charge. You'll find them sitting on the counter, directly back from the door and on trays under plastic. They are special, placed here, not with the others. A gooey, creme blast that takes some finger licking. I get a dozen donuts for the office every couple weeks. I fill in with glazed, crepes, chocolate topped glaze. They also have turnovers, twists, and much more. The donuts go in a little under an hour. I know they make cakes. And they show some local pride in serving Zekes Coffee. A special place Go before its just an old Baltimore story.

Yelp
I called Woodlea Bakery on Tuesday evening and ordered a Scrabble themed cake for Saturday. The gentleman I spoke to was extremely nice and accommodating. He willingly agreed to bake the cake even with such short notice. The cake was BEAUTIFUL and DELICIOUS. I highly recommend Woodlea Bakery!

Jim T.

Yelp
True old time bakery. Yummy doughnuts and pies but what really sets a traditional bakery from a D&D style are the penny pies. Gone are the days when they really sold for a penny (or even the nickel I paid as a kid) but these jelly turnovers made from left over pie dough are a lite but delicious confection that takes me back. True, at $1.35, they've gotten hipster pricey but Woodlea's version is worth the expense. Good sweet service and nice variety of confections. Stop by here for sure.

Yelp
The strawberry short cake was amazing!!! Fresh, so many strawberries. My sons 25th Birthday celebration with his KAY Inc brothers was a smash

Yelp
Great bakery. This cake was really tasty and they have a bunch of really good treats there too, like giant donuts and crispy chocolate chip cookies.

Yelp
I wish I had taken a picture of the cake before I ate it. I had a sweet tooth and wanted something fresh. I ordered a strawberry shortcake, so delish. Think I may go back for another, I should have got 2 slices! The ladies who work there were very nice.

Yelp
Bakery items such as birthday cake, cookies and donuts are really good. They did have some of the pastries uncovered which worries me a little when I think of flies or any other insect moving around. The taste was really good and prices were great. Truly a mom and pop bakery. It would be 5 stars if the pastries were covered.

Yelp
This place makes the best lemon meringue pie I've ever had. I drove an hour just to purchase pies from Woodlea. I highly recommend this bakery. During the holidays, it's best to call in orders in advance.

Zara K.

Yelp
New to the area and stumbled across Woodlea Bakery. I was nervous but the baker took the time to chat with me and help me design my birthday cake adding an extra cake layer and the rosette design. The cake was beyond amazing-most sponge and delicious whip cream frosting. This is my new go to place for cakes. Thank you for helping make my special day special!!!

Yelp
I'm a simple woman who enjoys simple things. So when I found out they sold sugar free cookies I just had to give them a try. This bakery has great customer service, beautifully decorated cakes, cupcakes and pies. For me though, it is the yummy readily available sugar free cookies that make this bakery 5-star.

Yelp
Just drove AN HOUR to come here and they are closed when they are posted to be open. Will never visit again!!! Bye Felicia!
