Yelp
When i moved into the area, everyone told me to give Woodlea Bakery a shot. They talked up how great it was. I was excited to check it out, and support my neighborhood and local store.
Sadly, my experience was horrible. I was having guests over so i went out and bought a lot of options, cannolis, cookies, carrot cake, various loaves of bread, and two pies. It was a flop here's why.
Customer Service - The staff was rude when I entered the store. I wasn't greeted when entering, and when explaining how good i heard everything was, I asked for their recommendations. They just looked at me, and instructed me to just pick what I came to get. Neither were friendly, and both were on their phones while at the front. Another customer was there at the same time, and they gave them the same attitude.
Prices - Higher than average with other bakeries in the area.
Taste - Sub par! The cannoli's i bought were soggy like they had been sitting around for a few days. The cookies were stale and bland. The carrot cake was worse than a cake purchased from Food Lion or Walmart and was almost 3x the cost! The pecan pie was mostly filling with very few pecan's, and the apple pie was bland, and the crust tasted flat, greasy, and stale.
To top it off, both loaves of bread that were stored correctly were moldy two days after I bought them.
I'll never go back, and after talking to people, that even recommended the bakery, they admitted it was hit or miss. Sometimes decent, sometimes bad. They mentioned the bread was preservative free so it wouldn't last as long. That's fine, but it should still last at least a week. I typically freeze bread after two days of buying fresh bred to prevent this, but both loaves were completely moldy the second morning after I bought them, so that means they had already started to mold when I purchased them.
I have since given the Bakery another shot about 6 months after the initial experience, and it was the same: Overpriced goods, stale, bland, baked goods, and this time, the bread molded 4 days after I bought it. I sat it next to a loaf from another bakery that took 7 days to mold (Just to test it. A store bought loaf lasted 6 weeks in the same spot before molding).
I really wished I had a better experiences with Woodlea Bakery. It would have been convenient as I live in the area, and I'd love to support a local business like this, but the quality, price, and service just aren't there.
