I have literally never written a review before--the coffee is fine but the service is slow. This is ok, but the past two times I've been in, the guy who has taken my order is clearly upset with me when I'm just trying to get my correct order. The first time, I ordered a hot mocha to-go. When I got charged up for $8.50, I asked why the price was so high, and he said that it was an up charge for to-go (ok) and for adding a shot of espresso. I said, there's already espresso included in a mocha, please take off that charge. He said, "I'm sorry I didn't know." I said, "that's alright, --I get it".
Today I come in, I stand in line, I order a dirty chai latte for here.
The same barista as last time makes the order for the person behind me before my order (ok...but I don't say anything).
When the barista makes my order, he gives me an iced chai latte no espresso. I saw him not put the espresso in there, but I give it a try anyway, and when it tastes like there's no espresso, I go back up to the bar, and ask, "is there any espresso in here?" And he says, "no, I'm sorry I'll put it in now."
He keeps talking to the person whose order he's taking and starts making her drink. I ask if I can just get the espresso shot on the side. He says yes.
When he takes my drink back to add espresso, he turns back to tell me--"I'm sorry, but I have to say the past two times you've been in here, your behavior has been extremely rude."
I was taken aback and said, "I'm really sorry, I'm just trying to get the drink I ordered. I'm not trying to be rude."
Him: "Trying?! Trying?! To order a drink. No, you did order a drink, and you're being rude."
Me: "can you please explain what I did to be rude? I'm not raising my voice, I'm saying please and thank you..."
Him: "it's more that man that--it's your behavior."
Me: "but can you name anything I can adjust?"
Him: "it's your being--it's more than manners."
Here my final thought to a way-too-long post: Service and staying positive with guests is hard and I think it's well within the right of service workers to stand up for themselves. I also feel targeted for SEEMing "annoyed." I wasn't rude--I didn't yell, I didn't cut in line, I didn't call names, i didn't berate anyone involved. I'm trying to understand what I couldn't done differently to get a better response.
