The Best NYC Coffee Shops With Wifi For Getting Work Done - New York - The Infatuation

"Not only is Word Of Mouth in Crown Heights a cafe, wine bar, and bookstore, it's also the unofficial co-working space for anyone with a 11238 zip code. They serve a small cafe menu of things like jammy egg toast and overnight oats from 8am to 3pm. After that, Happy Hour takes over. Hang around long enough, and you can get an endive caesar or shrimp scampi for dinner." - sonal shah, molly fitzpatrick, will hartman, neha talreja, bryan kim, willa moore

Word Of Mouth - Review - Crown Heights - New York - The Infatuation

"Word Of Mouth in Crown Heights is a cafe, wine bar, and bookstore, as well as the unofficial co-working space for anyone with a 11238 zip code. It’s a great (big) place to get some work done, and you’ll be in likeminded company if you swing by during the day. There’s a small cafe menu of things like jammy egg toast and overnight oats from 8am to 3pm—after that, Happy Hour takes over with $8 wines by the glass, $10 negronis, and a few bar snacks. And if you hang around long enough, you can get an endive caesar or shrimp scampi for dinner." - Tiffany Yannetta

I had seen this spot a few times while walking by and each time had took a mental note to check it out. Before going for early voting, I stopped in with my husband for a bite and a coffee. It is the most adorable, cozy place! From the warm greeting we got when we took a seat, to surrounding company of books, this felt like a place you could spend hours hanging out. The labneh with dill toast was absolutely delicious and so was the egg sandwich. I definitely will be back for an evening drink and bite, as I imagine this atmosphere only gets better at that time.

Cute spot with some outdoor seating, I love their walls of books. The happy hour menu for food isn’t as great as the cafe menu; the smoked trout dip was tasty but so small in portion.

Such a great opening in the area! Bookstore cafe & bar with great food and great coffee. Looks like they had a reading from a new book launch with the author last night, can’t wait to attend one of those! Staff is kind and knowledgeable, space is eclectic and welcoming. Wishing success and good energy to this new biz!

The food is phenomenal! Chef Lane changes the menu based on what is fresh and in season. We were lucky enough to get the last of the corn pudding. In my experience, everything he makes is a symphony of flavors. This place has many cool things going on, but don’t sleep on the food!!!

The staff were lovely. I arrived at 4pm on a Wednesday hoping to sit outside however all the tables were taken up by individuals just sitting around, who I am sure ordered something to eat/drink prior to me arriving. It only took 5-10 minutes for a table to open up outdoors. The wine, mocktail, oysters and trout dip was pretty good. Please note their kitchen does not open until 5pm.

We came in at 5ish on a weekend and the place was packed! People drinking coffee and starting to drink wine as well. The staff was so friendly. They highlight female winemakers and were able to talk us through all the different wineries on the menu. The food was also delicious. We had the smoked trout dip.

Another great addition to the neighborhood. Sleek, hip vibe inside with great drip coffee and a good looking drink menu (have yet to try). Good place to sit and work/read/socialize and apparently live music is coming which is much needed in the area. Excited to see what this place will turn into!

I don’t love writing negative or mixed reviews of businesses but had a really disappointing experience here. Ordered their prosciutto sandwich to go. Waited 40 minutes and it want very crowded but they provided no update on the sandwich. Then, they approach me and say there’s no prosciutto and ask if salami is okay. Put me in an awkward position, I just said fine but eating it now and it’s really bad. After waiting 50 minutes (took 10 more minutes after the salami switch up to actually make the 3-ingredient sandwich) for an 18!! dollar sandwich, I wouldn’t expected way more. Good coffee and like the bookstore element but will not be returning.

Yelp
You didn't hear this from me, but word on the streets is there's a new spot on Franklin Ave with the kind of vibes they use for a movie backdrop.. Imagine an eccentric's personal library, except with dim lights, cocktails at night and coffee during the day. I've been stalking Word of Mouth for a few months like a Film Noire detective strolling down Franklin Ave.. monologue and everything, except I don't smoke cigs. What would it be.. will I be able to enjoy it as a sober dude.. will it provide high definition mood.. the answer, is yes The owner is known for some other great projects nearby, so I was excited to check it out. Simple layout that let's the real magic shine, the seating and people. People make this place special. It has an intimate almost french cafe-except-indoors vibe with what I can only describe as 'bada*s matrix sectional couches'. Just being in a room with such seating wonders made me feel good. I tried a NA wine from Toast and it was phenomenal. Soon they'll have full hours (8am-midnight) and serve coffee so I can already imagine myself sitting and drawing here for hours. They have some light bites, a and will unroll more of the menu as they ramp up so stay tuned. Glad to see such a cool space grow nearby, really happy for the team and excited to support this spot in the future. Congrats!

Yelp
I have literally never written a review before--the coffee is fine but the service is slow. This is ok, but the past two times I've been in, the guy who has taken my order is clearly upset with me when I'm just trying to get my correct order. The first time, I ordered a hot mocha to-go. When I got charged up for $8.50, I asked why the price was so high, and he said that it was an up charge for to-go (ok) and for adding a shot of espresso. I said, there's already espresso included in a mocha, please take off that charge. He said, "I'm sorry I didn't know." I said, "that's alright, --I get it". Today I come in, I stand in line, I order a dirty chai latte for here. The same barista as last time makes the order for the person behind me before my order (ok...but I don't say anything). When the barista makes my order, he gives me an iced chai latte no espresso. I saw him not put the espresso in there, but I give it a try anyway, and when it tastes like there's no espresso, I go back up to the bar, and ask, "is there any espresso in here?" And he says, "no, I'm sorry I'll put it in now." He keeps talking to the person whose order he's taking and starts making her drink. I ask if I can just get the espresso shot on the side. He says yes. When he takes my drink back to add espresso, he turns back to tell me--"I'm sorry, but I have to say the past two times you've been in here, your behavior has been extremely rude." I was taken aback and said, "I'm really sorry, I'm just trying to get the drink I ordered. I'm not trying to be rude." Him: "Trying?! Trying?! To order a drink. No, you did order a drink, and you're being rude." Me: "can you please explain what I did to be rude? I'm not raising my voice, I'm saying please and thank you..." Him: "it's more that man that--it's your behavior." Me: "but can you name anything I can adjust?" Him: "it's your being--it's more than manners." Here my final thought to a way-too-long post: Service and staying positive with guests is hard and I think it's well within the right of service workers to stand up for themselves. I also feel targeted for SEEMing "annoyed." I wasn't rude--I didn't yell, I didn't cut in line, I didn't call names, i didn't berate anyone involved. I'm trying to understand what I couldn't done differently to get a better response.

Yelp
Word of Mouth is such a great addition to the neighborhood. The vibes are great and everyone I've interacted with there is super sweet. They have coffee and light breakfast/lunch in the morning and cocktails and wine in the late afternoon and evening. They have a good happy hour too! Service is very friendly and willing to help you with any questions you have in the menu. Will be coming back so soon!

Yelp
I've already reviewed Word of Mouth, but I feel like I owe another review since I've basically been coming 1-2 times a week since they opened. They've since filled in the space with artwork and shelves upon shelves of books. It's a warm, inviting space that's become cozy as the weather's gotten colder. The coffee remains good, and although the food prices may have gone up slightly, everything I've seen people order looks tasty. Finding outlets can be a bit of a challenge, but they are there if you look for them.

Yelp
Guys guys guys the vibes here are absolute perfection. The bartender was so kind and we had the most lovely time. I got the non alcoholic amaro (?) and it was grody but that's on me for not knowing what to order haha. Overall SUPER DUPER recommend (especially if you know what you're doing when ordering drinks lmao.)

Yelp
One of my favorite spots in the neighborhood. Bookshop/cafe in the morning and bookshop/wine bar at night. It's a great spot to sit and read or get some work done. The coffee & food are amazing and everyone behind the bar is so kind.

Yelp
It's a cute spot. But the day I came in the cortado was mediocre, the first three food items I tried to order they were out, and the $12 salad I wound up settling on was the size of a tiny side salad...

Yelp
This place is on my block. I was excited to finally see the space turned in to something after years and years of being empty. It's a cute space. They only have wine. I haven't eaten here, but they don't seem to have a regular kitchen. All this is immaterial. My main problem with this place is they served my party an open bottle of wine, cheerily acknowledged that they had given samples out of the bottle to other guests, and charged us full price (which was, honestly, overpriced) for a whole bottle. I mean, it's a wine bar; that's just bad form. You don't uncork a bottle and then sell it as a full bottle. Maybe it's a better coffee shop? I haven't been during the day. Anyway, maybe they'll get their act together at some point, but in the meantime I'll walk the extra half a block to the equally cute Rialto Grande.
