"Angie Bellinger is the one-woman show behind Workmen’s Cafe, feeding blue-collar workers and deal seekers. The lunch spot serves a meat-and-three meal with rotating specials like ribs, fried chicken, and pork chops offered with sides like macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and lima beans. A recent blue plate special included oxtail stew, two sides, and a piece of cornbread for $16." - Erin Perkins

I recently dined at Workmen's Cafe on James Island, and it was an exceptional experience. The fried chicken plate with mashed potatoes and gravy surpassed my expectations; it's undoubtedly some of the best fried chicken I've ever had in Charleston. The restaurant's cozy atmosphere and friendly staff create a welcoming environment. Workmen's Cafe is offering a must-try experience for any local foodie. The meals are rich and flavorful, providing a delicious journey into the heart of soul food. For less than $8!! You can have a meal that will blow you away. Definitely deserving of a five-star review!

Finally gave this place a try and wow. The food is incredible. Best fried chicken and Mac I have had in a long time, if ever. It’s a one woman show and she knows what she’s doing.

This place is nothing fancy, but it's clean and the food is delish. Comfort soul food at its best. I had a fried drumstick, mac and cheese (omg - so good) , a veggie, a biscuit and a glass of tea. Nothing is overly salted. I will go back.

This place is tucked a bit off of Folly road but it worth grabbing food here. Prices are extremely reasonable. They are careful with covid (signage at door and seating is nicely spread out). Food is delicious and portions are generous. I left very full and my boyfriend who has a huge appetite couldn't finish everything. I will definitely be back the next time I am craving some good ole southern home cooking!

Y'all come eat, you'll be glad you did. These ladies can cook! The place is like the loved and forgotten Mimi's cafe, but with a whole lot of soul. Such a bright sterile environment that's relaxing to be in. I had the Thursday meatloaf special it was so good with the broccoli casserole, macaroni and cheese, and cornbread for around $10. Every bite was bliss and there's no way I can fit dinner in now. Thanks to all y'all at workmen's cafe, y'all awesome!
