The Ideal Portland Spots to Load Up on Picnic Supplies | Eater Portland

"This small international market on NW Everett is a killer spot to grab some chocolate bars, jars of olives or pickles, Oregon cheeses, and even poke, but some of the real winners come from Ya Hala chef Mirna Attar, who makes things like house-made pita, hummus, the Lebanese flatbread man’oushe, and tabbouli. The one essential order: a few pieces of pistachio or walnut baklava for dessert." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

I'm in Portland for only 3 nights and I was here twice during that time. I came for breakfast and had the ham and brie rolls and a cold brew (their coffee is fantastic!) and I came for lunch the next day and had the sumac potatoes and the roast beef. It's home-style cooking at its best. The staff is super friendly and if you're ordering from the deli, you'll have to pay at the cash register, so no tipping system in place. Most of the food is Lebanese in origin but there's also a lot of variety. I can't recommend this place enough! Their baklava is also worth trying.

My sister and I dropped in for some snacks before our train commute home and were greeted with excellent hospitality. An employee immediately made sure we were finding what we were looking for, and even offered us snack samples. We left with some local-to-Oregon snacking nuts and a positive experience. Also one of the most esthetically pleasing produce sections I've ever seen. Will definitely visit again when in town!

Great hot/prepared foods. (You can eat at their picnic tables or front with coffee, beer, wine...Great selection. Great espresso. I get fresh squeezed OJ here weekly. So so good. Friendly and helpful staff. 6 stars.

Google
I'm mostly writing this review for the coffee shop inside. Coffee came out quick and great! Alternative milk was not an extra charge and in an economy that's hostile to lactose intolerant folks small things like that are great. That area is dense with coffee and I'd definitely rank this higher than other shops around.

Google
I love their bakery, unique selections of goods, but it’s really all about the fresh squeezed OJ!

my partner and i will often encounter this market when heading south from NW Glisan St., and we get hungry on a daily basis. as luck would have it, we were passing by here one day and got snacks for ourselves. they have many options in the prepared foods corner. we like how a beet salad pairs with a 1/2 sandwich and a can of mate. hopefully these items will be in stock each time we go there. because they don't have the kale salad that we paired with it before. i did not investigate whether that was a seasonal option only. i have done research prior on the availability of kale year round, and, as luck would have it, this very market carries kale all year. i will ask if they lost the recipe for the prepared kale salad that we liked so much with beets.

If you’re like me, an anxious black dude already nervous to go into stores like this, maybe skip this place. Despite doing everything “right” , talking nice and proper, making polite conversation with the cashier, hands out of pocket, asking where to sit to eat my purchased deli food, it wasn’t enough to not then be questioned if I actually bought the food once taking a seat. The security let me know that “no one could confirm that I purchased the food” despite me being at the counter moments before and once after to ask where utensils were. I would highly recommend going in with a visually civilized white person as I normally do if you’re looking for a stress free normal shopping experience.

Google
Everyone at the Market was pleasant. The food looks better than it tastes but it was ok. I would have given this place a 4 star except for the incident with the Security Guard. The reason for the poor review was an issue I had to report to this establishment on the Security Guard there. After I got my food to pay for it I turned around and noticed he was right behind me, he turned around quickly to avoid eye contact. I'm a woman of color and he was white. I had done nothing wrong but for some reason other than racial bias he felt the need to follow me. After I paid for my food walking out of the Market he said, have a Happy Easter um. I said, thank you and left. But the experience made me feel uncomfortable and targeted by him!

Yelp
The best "date & cardamom coffee"! We were visiting Portland. I stumbled upon this gem while I was waiting to get my hair done. The market itself has great finds that normally you wouldn't find anywhere else. I specifically came in for coffee and hands down the best flavor. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Terrible management, very abusive too their workers, always new faces as nobody stays long. Everyone has an "i just wanna leave" attitude, along side the fact that the cost of their products have a massive mark up in price. Business seems fine just existing off the allowance of local residents in the Pearl District. Bummer too cause its a great location, horribly wasted

Yelp
The best things in life are the pleasantries of unexpected surprises. We stumbled upon this magical place while exploring PDX. It's funny how we turned corners to find things that no one wants to talk about and then you stumble upon gems like this one. I personally enjoyed exploring the isles. The chocolate isle caught my eye so I spent quite a bit of time there mesmerized by the variety of chocolates I have not heard of, but now I can dream about until my next trip. It was really nice that a chocolate expert was ready to offer suggestions, provide in depth details about types and origins of chocolate options. Personal score for me was finding Celtic salt, which is not available anywhere in California. Who buys salt when they travel? I did. This was our family Thanksgiving dinner from deli and will go down in history as one of the best ever. The turkey was moist but the mashed potatoes were out of this world. Yum. And the winner of all was the customer service. Everyone was genuine, helpful and fully embodies the spirit of thanksgiving by being helpful and loving. TY for a memorable experience.

Yelp
I absolutely adore this place. Every time I visit Portland and stay at the hotel across the street. I come here for a couple mimosas and snacks. The guy at the coffee/bar area in the afternoon is an absolute doll. He makes you feel like he's known you forever. I could sit in this place for hours just watching, enjoying meeting new people and having conversations. I then love when I'm done, I can venture around the store and pick out a few snacks/meals or even fresh squeezed oj to take with me for the rest of the day/evening. my very first time wanting the fresh squeezed orange juice. The gentleman even stopped what he was in the middle of doing to come over and show me how to work it when he saw the confusion on my face. Lol. Everybody here is absolutely fantastic, super helpful and nice. I can't recommend this place enough to anybody in the area.

Yelp
For a small-medium size market it's amazing the variety of gourmet products World Foods has on hand. The deli section and it's offerings are not to be ignored either for the quality and taste. As far as price goes, any place that Carrie's gourmet products will of course be more expensive than a big box generic store. However I find that often World Foods has better prices than comparable. It's a nice store!

Yelp
I LOVE this place. It is a little more on the pricey side but the deli is affordable compared to other restaurants in the area, and the food is outstanding.

Yelp
This is a very cute market in the Pearl District.I especially appreciated that it's right across the street from my hotel. It was a great stop to get some snacks for the room, water, yogurt, etc. I was impressed with the selection and variety that they had especially given that it's a kind of mini market size. They also have prepared foods and a deli. The very best most amazing part is the specialty chocolate aisle. Oh boy how overwhelming the selection is. I didn't even know where to start. I think I stood in that aisle for at least 30 minutes trying to figure it all out and make a decision. So if you are a chocolate lover do you want to try chocolates from around the world this is definitely a good spot. They also have a nice wine selection and you can share a glass of wine at the outdoor tables.

Yelp
I've visited this grocery store about five times now. The customer service is excellent--especially compared to providore. I cant comment on parking since I usually walk here, but I imagine it's as scarce as is typical for the area. I find that prices arent too bad for an upscale grocery store --it's comparable to whole foods. It really depends on what you buy. If you're shopping for staples (beans, rice) then definitely overpriced; if you're looking for luxury, artisinal, or local hammade items then the prices are reasonable. The chocolate section is amazing! There is a coffee and wine bar, so you can sip while u shop. The Bad: one of the ovens is broken, so ive had issues with deli food not being heated properly. I would suggest just getting takeout and heating up at home.

Yelp
If like me you love browsing the shelves of specialty stores you would totally love this place . Lots of variety and things that you wont see in other grocery stores in the area .There is rows and rows of grocery items ,frozen stuff ,a cheese counter, a bakery section , an OJ machine , a hot bar , fresh fruits and produce, and also wine and coffee counters . The store is clean and well organized and has some seating both indoor as well as outside . The prices are in line with what one would expect from a grocery store that offers some unique items and hence not the best option for everyday shopping but if you are looking for some specific Mediterranean spice for cooking or a specialty cheese for your cheese platter , chances are you might just find it here .

Yelp
I stopped here today on the way to the train station, catching train to Seattle. It all looked good on the surface and from outside. It was my first time in this shop. At the deli counter, the first red flag was the surly, young woman who served me. I felt like it was an imposition. She was eating behind the counter, getting a bite of her (lunch?) in before serving me and setting down her half eaten snack in plain sight on the service counter. I have never seen that before. I should have walked out at that point because the whole experience went downhill from here. I bought 3 sandwiches, a wrap, and a meat pie for lunch. Together with two bags of Tim's chips and 6 apricots, the total was $32. The roast beef sandwich with pecorino cheese was all cheese . The ham sandwich was plain as plain can be. The meat pie and chicken cordon bleu wrap were dry. Why not add some caeasar salad dressing or sauce? I ended up throwing almost everything in the trash. Even the apricots were floury - I hardly ever met an apricot I did not love before today. In the end, Tim's chips were the best part of thr purchase - I could have bought them at Arco. Lastly, service at the checkout was downright hostile. There was a real attitude going on here. For the checkout lady (man?) with the piercing on face, I did make my train, and I will skip the stop at World Foods next time I come to Portland. If you appreciate quality product and professional service, then I recommend looking elsewhere.

Yelp
I used to shop here until recently, the store is having a severe problem with criminal activity and has lowered their customer service significantly to the point is not worth it to frequent anymore. They have untrained armed security guards sitting at the entrance of the store intimidating and antagonizing long time customers. The lack of training for these armed security guards put customers in peril, in situations reminiscent of the killing at Lowes in North Portland, by an untrained security guard that is not properly trained and supervised by the store ownership. I have witnessed the interactions of their security guards with customers that are very frightening and can escalate very quickly to very negative consequences. Management has been alerted on these situations and have apologized and shift the blame on a third party security company hired to provide the services, and blaming the issue on the poor security guards tasked to provide the store security. The store has severe problems, and are cutting corners to survive amidst the social situation experienced at this location, but is not justifiable to have untrained armed guards, that sooner or later is going to result in harm to customers. I am have alerted my neighbors about this safety concern, I will not shop there anymore, when I can go a couple of blocks away to Whole Foods, Safeway and Trader Joes, where there they do not have this safety problems.

Yelp
Camilla the Yelping Hen has been really wanting to visit World Foods. She says it's because she is broadening her culinary talents, but I think it's really because she misses the option to travel the world and so... maybe she can get her fix here. It's a cute little store with a lot of prepared foods. They have all the local brands. You could easily put together a charcuterie plate with a nice wine here. Honestly, I could probably send you in blindfolded and you'd be able to put together a smashing spread of yummy. The prices are in line with what one would expect. They also have a very fun beer selection. While my own tastes aren't totally met with the prepared foods here, I did see some items that might make it into my basket at some point and time. Anyway, we grabbed a bunch of fun beer and headed out to our next stop. Did you know that using a mitten as a beer coosie makes for a classy way to not drink publicly while still drinking in public? I am using "classy" as loosely as I use the words "Of course I won't pre drink!"

Yelp
Love this place. Grab a coffee, something from the hot/cold food bar and grab a seat out front to people watch while you snack. This place is small but mighty! So many great things I get lost in looking each time I go. Wonderful wine and beer selections! Also check out their olive oils and chocolate section! Wow!! Restrooms for patrons, they are clean!

Yelp
A great local place to go to and support. The have a Lebanese deli in the back. They also have the biggest selection of chocolate on the pacific northwest. I love tiger barista bar too. They have a variety of wines they sell as well. They have some nice stuff, this is really a great place.

Yelp
A food-lover's playground. 100%. Where do I begin? There's a lovely cafe upon entry with a small pastry case of classic breakfast carbs with friendly staff, though I did not order anything. Hands down one of the best wine sections in the city and a great beer and cider cooler to boot. A dedicated specialty chocolate aisle and unique Lebanese/middle easter ingredients which can be difficult to find and some of my most used items. They have lots of other local, domestic and international fine and boutique or specialty food products in the dry and cold aisles. The prepared foods section in the back of the store really steals the show. A huge variety of Lebanese foods, mostly cold and ready for your next night in or hot and ready to go. Bulk meats, sides, vegetarian options, handhelds, desserts, spreads. The vegetarian kibbeh wrap is packed with flavor, filling but not heavy. The spreads and pita are so fresh and again flavorful. There are also ready-to-go pre-portioned cloches of single meals that you grab quickly if you don't want to do bulk. The place is nice and small so you can get in and out and literally all of the staff are friendly and helpful and really seem to love their jobs! I've never seen such a happy overall staff.

Yelp
I used to LOVE this store. It was a mandatory stop on every trip to PDX. But today's experience made me reconsider. The service was SO bad or rude. One employee was almost asleep behind the deli counter. Had her back to the customer area was yawning loudly and not covering her mouth. The young guy at the register was super disrespectful too. Manager on duty seemed asleep at the wheel. Two stars because food selection still great.

Yelp
Well after using social media, I received a very nice response along with a gift card from the Everett manager. He also advised that they would improve their response to hello@worldfoods.,, as well as to all other queries on their google form and in the store. So, I am going to give them an improved score. We have not liked all of their foods, have also found their tabouli great or not so great, but we keep going back because we can find the foods not available elsewhere. Plus, the halva is excellent, not dried out. I will also tell you that we have eaten lunch there many times.

John L.

Yelp
Another winner. I am amazed with the variety. There is too much good stuff here, my basket gets full. Then I find more. Great place to find holiday stocking stuffers.

Yelp
Amazing store with hard to find jewels! It's always quite the adventure! Check it out!

Yelp
Awesome neighborhood grocery. Three reasons to come to this place. Orange juice. Yes orange juice. They have this crazy fresh orange juice making machine. Fresh oranges go in through the top, pull the tap and orange gold pours out. Owner said it cost some ridiculous amount of money. You can get a bottle (32oz?) for 8 bucks - which is what you pay for a cup of Odwalla at any bakery in the pearl Pita. Made fresh everyday. You can get it puffy or flat and grilled. Both are amazing and pretty cheap. Get some of those and then wander over to the ... Mediterranean deli. Fresh hummus, tsatziki, babaganouj (sorry for the horrible spelling). Just close your eyes and pick something and it will be good. They also have a decent poke bar

Yelp
Horribly rude management who, as a former regular, I felt displayed racist and ableist behavior towards me by profiling me based on two factors: my skin tone and my disability (a brain condition which makes me seem "out of it" per se), referring to me as an olive-toned drug/substance user. I received proof of this from an employee who will continue to remain anonymous (thank you by the way to the dozens upon dozens of locals who saw my review and messaged me or stopped me in the building or on the street to apologize for what I went through and mention that they would be shopping far less at World Foods/only for late-night necessities; my brain aneurysm surgery has been most horrific and traumatic event of my life, so to hear that I was discussed as a lying drug-user for seeming out of it truly saddened me. I had moved on, until I saw that for whatever reason my review was removed; I will not be silenced). Also interesting to see that after my review came a RANDOM INFLUX of positive reviews; an elderly man below literally admitted to being bought out! He stated that he changed his one star review to four in part due to being given a gift card. I showed my Arab family and friends and we got a good laugh out of it because it doesn't get any funnier than that. Store associates appear to be incredibly overworked and thus are not very friendly, though I never took it personally as it seemed evident how overworked they are (many reviews also point to this as well). Seems my review was removed (potentially expunged but I cannot say for sure; the WORST part is that when Joyce Attar [management] messaged asking me to call her about my experience, the second I told her she wasn't going to get what she wanted out of me- AKA, *in my opinion* was presumably the removal of the bad review (again, this is all Steve's fault), she totally discarded me and did not even respond to the remainder of my message in which I asked her, politely, what steps of accountability would be taken to ensure that other regulars of color would not be hurt in the same way...it could NOT be more obvious that management could not care less about their regulars but rather, getting what they want; she saw she wasn't going to win the fight and achieve, in my opinion, removal of the review, so she tossed me to the side...just like they treat their employees, many of whom are my friends). Their deli food is mediocre (their Chinese fried rice made me vomit twice, but I kept my mouth shut because their fajitas are OK; being Arab, their Arabic food - despite their baklava- is merely mediocre at best). Prices are SO JACKED because they know they can take advantage of hotel residents/locals who have nowhere else to go and are hungry and thirsty. Just sad. Also- what *DELI* doesn't serve custom sandwiches? Weirdest thing I've ever seen.

Yelp
I live up the street and have been coming to World almost daily for three years. World did an amazing job of serving the neighborhood through COVID and every week reminds me why they are the best local market in Portland. Upscale food selections and helpful, cheerful staff. Thanks for your consistent excellence, even in tough times!

Yelp
Hands down, best specialty grocery store in Portland! I'm amazed with the vast variety and stock of quality pantry items on the shelves! OMG, lots of choices in every category: honey, chocolate (rows and rows of shelves filled with chocolate bars!), crackers, olive oil, pasta (even the hard to find shapes like cavatelli and real fusilli con buco), canned goods, cookies from all over Europe, and more. Then add in the cheese counter, hot deli, fresh fruit and produce, frozen foods, and bakery area and Foodies, beware! You will want everything! Whenever I need a specific type of pantry item for Mediterranean cooking, or a delicious cheese and cracker board, this is where I shop. The cheese selection is vast, fresh, and covers a wide variety of hard and soft cheeses. Plus fig jam, quince paste and other fruit spreads to pair with the cheese. If you like hummus, the traditional hummus here is the best I have ever had, in or out of the US! Better than in Greece or Turkey. They add fresh lemon and it really brightens it up! They have butternut squash, red pepper and other varieties also, but I prefer the traditional for the chick pea, garlic, olive oil and lemon combo. The fresh pita here is also incredible. Thin, hot, tasty! Amazing what they do with just a few ingredients! The deli counter also serves spinach pie, other meat pies, small baguette sandwich's (jambone) and other delicious treats. There is always some type of roasts lamb dish and chicken entree with sides of rice, potatoes and other hot offerings. Everything is made fresh and tastes like it came out of your grandmothers kitchen, if you had a grandmother who was a fantastic cook and usd fresh and quality ingredients and cooked with love! Fortunately that is how my Nana cooks so I recognize and appreciate the love that goes into their prepared foods. I've never had coffee here, but have bought cookies and baklava to serve at dinner parties; it's always a hit. There is also a vast wine section making this a great one stop shop! Easy to put together a gift basket for the foodies in your life, including lots of great cookbooks. I bought a friend an Israeli cookbook and she has made many of the recipes. Shopping here is always a treat. If I was rich, I would buy everything here! They have all of the hard to find Mediterranean staples that I grew up with, but are challenging to find in Portland. The store is bright, clean and well organized. Even from the outside looking in, it's vibrant and beautiful. Located on the corner of NW Everett and 9th, it's easy to find parking right out front. They have tables and chairs outside, as well as inside, making this a great place to meet friends for coffee of lunch any time of the year.

Yelp
I'm surprised I haven't reviewed here yet. I love this place! They have delicious prepared food, a wide range of gourmet snacks and ingredients, and an excellent beer and wine selection. They have a decent amount of outdoor seating for folks who want to hang out for a bit. Most recently, I tried the veggie kibbeh wrap which was perfectly flavorful. I've never been able to eat kibbeh normally since I can't eat beef, so it was nice to finally break through and try it. Their shawarma wraps and bowls are also amazing. Come by and grab a delicious bite! You won't regret it!

Yelp
My girlfriend and I just moved right up the street. World Foods has been our go to spot almost everyday, the staff is super friendly and they have a really good selection of meats, fresh produce, beer and fresh food we love the butternut hummus.

Yelp
Stay clear of the deli. Although the food is delicious, the staff has been consistently atrocious for years. Please hire some experienced employees, it seems to be everyone's first day in the service industry. The young woman taking my order seemed to be in a terrible mood, and was clearly angry about something. Also was constantly touching her glasses which does not seem hygienic. I ordered a pita with falafel and she screamed "you said pita but you didn't say falafel". I and a few people around me were a bit thrown aback by the outburst. When my friend wanted separate falafel the woman had to laboriously search for the quantities sold (3, 6 or 20) which took ages. Honestly it feels like any deli worker's first day, and it has been this same lack of service since World Food opened this location. Somehow Elephants Deli and the Zupan's Deli seem to find quality, knowledgable staff... why can't World Foods find people as good as the food.

Yelp
This review is for the Xmas Takeout meals 12/24/20. I haven't shipped at this grocery store, and it seems lovely. We ordered dinner to eat at home this year due to COVID-19. The process was easy and straightforward, though more vegetarian options would have been nice. The service was also great, friendly, everything ready and on time with easy instructions. My bad review is because the food mostly was not good. We have a family of 5, including 2 teenage boys who eat everything. It's really unusual to have leftovers of anything around here, let alone more than half of a $200 meal. We ordered the ham meal (feeds 2-3) and the Cornish hen meal (feeds 2-3). I liked the cranberry sauce, but that's it. It just isn't good food , and a total waste. Because most is untouched, we are going to see what we can do to safely donate.

Yelp
Convenient grocery store especially if you're staying at the Hampton Inn across the street. They have a great deli and coffee/wine bar. The turmeric latte was delicious.

Madeline T.

Yelp
This place is beautiful and stocks quality foods, but unfortunately the staff are stuck up and totally rude. I had a bad experience with not one, but two staff members in the space of 3 minutes that, no joke, made me want to cry. And I pride myself on being friendly and kind to strangers. I'm not going to support a place like this anymore and I recommend going up the street to Whole Foods.

Yelp
We were visiting the Pearl district since the Art in the Pearl was on this weekend. We saw that one of the artist couples who were displaying and selling their art at the event were enjoying a delicious looking wrap. We saw a box with the World Market label so we presumed that the wrap came from the World Market. I'm glad we visited! We enjoyed a delicious lunch at the World Market and we enjoyed shopping their very well curated groceries. We shared Rajaj Rice, an Eggplant with Tomatoes Baked dish, a small portion of the irresistable Chicken Pot Pie and a Tri Tip Beef Pita Wrap. Every dish from their cold case deli and hot food counter was delicious. World Market also sells freshly baked Pita - $2.50 for 2 very large fresh baked Pita - a bargain! The owner recommended a Zaatar Thyme Spread to enjoy with the Pita Bread. We also bought their Butternut Squash and Red Pepper Hummus. We enjoyed the Pita Bread (warmed in our toaster oven) with the Thyme spread and the Hummus at home. World Market has comfortable spaces both inside the store and outside the store to enjoy our meal. A GEM of a place! Service was fast, friendly and efficient.

Rolling Along ..

Yelp
Wow, their apricots, peaches and nectarines are much better than what's available at Trader Joe's or New Seasons right now. I'll be back tomorrow for more!

Yelp
With all the glowing reviews, we tried a bunch of stuff at the prepared food counter. Baba ganouch, Zataar hummus, black olive hummus, veg and meat grape leaves, spanakopita, the bread, etc. At first taste, thought everything was good, but then realized what the other reviewer meant that citric acid is added, which diminishes the flavor quality and leaves a very astringent taste in your mouth. Particularly the spanakopita had a ton of that fake lemon juice in it, as well as the other dips. And, a lot of salt in the hummus. If they had juiced the lemon juice from the small yellow citrus (and not the fake citric acid "real lemon" juice from Costco or wherever, it would have improved the quality 100% and I would be returning again and again. Sorry to say.

Yelp
I have very strong willpower. If I'm on a diet and sitting with people eating pizza or other yummy food, it does not faze me. However, I'm in trouble when I come here. That are cheats and goodies they have here are very close to home cooking. As soon as I walk in, the smells and aromas just suck me in, and the willpower is instantly gone. So you forewarned and don't blame me. They do have other good stuff in addition to Arab food, and it's always fun experience shopping there. Prices from to be a bit higher than other places, but what do you in the Pearl District. They have to be able to pay the rent.
google avatar

Yelp
I was staying next door and I love going into small supermarkets to browse. There was a large selection of specialty foods I wanted to try but what I really wanted was something sweet. There is a coffee/pastry stand when you first walk in, so I ordered a carrot cake donut but truthfully I wanted Voodoo donuts but it was getting late and I didn't feel like walking. The donut was AMAZING!! Melt in your mouth amazing. My friend and I devoured it. It was also big enough to share for $3. So today we went to Voodoo and agreed that the carrot cake donut was 10x better than the 3 donuts we tried there. And the area around VooDoo was super sketch. In conclusion, get the carrot cake donut-you will not regret it!!!!

Yelp
This Pearl location is the slightly classier, more polished sibling of Barbur World Foods, and just like its suburban counterpart, the deli counter in this joint is where it's at! While the grocery aisles are expectedly pricy and not quite as deep of a dive into international foods as the Barbur location, the deli is a sleeper hit and a hidden gem of a lunch destination in the otherwise costly neighborhood. The star attraction, for me, is the poke sold by the pound, and poke bowls that are more affordable and just as delicious as the nearby competition (that shall remain nameless). They also do a killer turkey wrap that's criminally cheap. Really, there's no wrong choice in the deli case. World Foods also has a lovely wine selection and a little wine/beer bar that even does happy hour. On a sunny day, grab a pint and snack on some poke at one of the outdoor tables and wonder why you'd ever gone to any other similarly-named grocery store deli anyway. World Foods ahoy!

Yelp
We love a gourmet grocery store and this place knocks it out of the park? First, I have never seen a place with a chocolate aisle like this. Second, need caviar? They have a mini fridge dedicated to it. Don't be deceived, this place may be smaller but it packs a big punch!

Yelp
This really is a fantastic place! It's small but here's proof that size doesn't matter. They have a very good variety of products to choose from and the service deli in the back has some really amazing products and the staff is very helpful and friendly.

Yelp
Note to self, this is not Whole Foods. My hubby and I were confused as to why there were two Whole Foods within 3 blocks of each other... we came to realize we couldn't read and that this was a totally different place. That being said, we thoroughly enjoyed this store. We stopped in twice to get seltzers, snacks, and beer. My hubby also got one of their premade breakfast sandwiches and said it was awesome. The beer selection was crafty and on point, and they had a nice selection of everything else healthy there too. The store workers were super friendly toward us, so I'd definitely be a frequent shopper here if I lived in town!

Yelp
A nice variety of offerings. A whole aisle of chocolate that had me excited! I'll be back when I'm in the area.

Yelp
Great neighborhood grocery store. They have all the basics and a ton of other fun stuff that you probably haven't seen before. But hey, you need to try new things somethings, you never know what your new favorite will be! Great beer/cider/seltzer/wine selection. Most beer/cider is sold by the can, and they get new stuff in all the time. There's a coffee shop that has some baked goods and a deli that has some tasty food. Their fresh-baked flatbread--?!!!?-- I don't even know how flatbread can be so good. Also, they have the best coconut water I've ever had. I'm not going to say the brand because it sells out a lot. I shouldn't have said anything. Anyway, It's a good place. If I ever move I'll think back fondly to the times when I could walk about the block and get a weird beer with a rad label, some tomatoes I needed for dinner or some cookies from an Eastern Block country.

Yelp
3.5 stars. I generally enjoyed shopping here and picking up lunch to go. Docking it a half star for a somewhat sad-looking salad bar. However, they make up for that with an impressive, outstanding chocolate aisle! Priorities, people! I've never seen anything like it. So if you're into artisanal chocolate, definitely check out World Foods.

Yelp
Excellent location near several hotels and businesses. Great little place with s wide variety of quality food items. I loved the comprehensive chocolate collection!

Yelp
The deli here is insanely cursed and the price is ridiculous. The only good products you can find here are also available anywhere else. The owners clearly have no idea what they are doing with this place, the layout is weird and the floor is uneven and their fire escape was crowded with backstock and clearly not able to be escapable. Easily could be a great store in a great spot but unfortunately this is not the case.

Yelp
World Foods is less of a grocery store and more of a food curation service. This is the kind of grocer I wish I had the money to go to. While at first glance, World Foods appears to be posh as anything, they actually do offer quite a bit of variety. If you want a crazy olive oil poured from a barrel tap, or a hand-roasted coffee sold only in a mason jar, sure, you can find it here. However, World Foods doesn't stock pretentious items for the sake of being pretentious. Each item is the best of its class. When there are multiple ways of assessing "best", all are offered. Just consider the hundred or so hot sauces on offer, or the roughly 60 beers. An aisle full of chocolate, featuring only one or two of the best-in-class for each concentration, from 20% normal milk chocolate to crazy award-winning 98% cacao. It's a lot of fun to browse here, but don't expect to make World Foods your weekly supermarket run replacement.

Yelp
This is a really good market for a wide range of fresh and packaged food products. Not only are many cultures represented but the items for each are well curated. While they don't carry everything, they do carry a lot of items. The prices are fair (much more fair than Whole Foods for the same products). They have one entire aisle devoted to chocolate (both sides!). The deli/prepared food section is full of freshly prepared hot and cold dishes. The poke alone is worth a trip! If only they could have stores like this everywhere I visited. The staff here is fantastic. They know their stuff. I was approached a few times while browsing the aisles and picked their brains re: the chocolate and the Olympia Provisions charcuterie. I highly encourage asking the friendly and knowledgable staff questions about their products and they seem more than eager to help.

Yelp
I have had deli food two times here and both times the food was bland and not prepared as listed. Missing ingredients, sub/added ingredients not listed. Nice space lots of fancy expensive chocolates. Which I plan on trying next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
Ever a reader of Eater PDX, I recall this place as it came to mention,& then fruition. A veritable hot spot for excellent local beer in the Pearl, and the hard to find delicacies, with an emphasis on Medi comestibles. Enjoyed the perusal; wasn't huge fan of the layout. Why place all the checkout stands in that orientation?

Yelp
Love the environment of this clean, natural store. Lots of products and food from all over the world. Sit outside ans enjoy a tumeric ginger latte and a maple donut!

Yelp
Just happened upon this place, and found it has the largest selection of craft chocolate on theWest Coast. Owner John Attar happened to ask if I needed help when I was looking for a locally made bar. He could tell My friend and I are chocolate enthusiasts, and offered us a tasting. We were honored. He disappeared for a minute and came back with about four or five varieties--and he walked us through them. A flight of chocolates! Apparently he employs a buyer who's basically a sommelier of chocolate. I could go on and on about each bar and the qualities of each. But John said that the collection is a kind of statement. They prioritize ethically sourced chocolate and small companies that have strong stories. I'm noticing a theme here in Portland--one of curation. The curated chocolate aisles at World Foods offers a lot to return to again and again.

Yelp
Fresh made pita hot off the grill in the morning, yum! Lots to choose from, love the deli counter, service is friendly and prompt. Only thing missing is middle eastern music - why play rock and roll, pop, etc. - you can hear that anywhere and everywhere, why not explore different music as well as different foods. Missing my home town with middle eastern market that actually plays middle eastern music . . .
