"Fedora feels kind of like a dinner party at a friend’s apartment, but rather than drinking rum and Dr. Pepper on a couch that’s been given away three different times, you’ll get high-quality American food in the basement of a brownstone in the West Village. Sit at the bar and get some of the best chicken in the city, along with rum cocktails that have more interesting mixers than Dr. Pepper (like pear cider and cherry bark bitters)." - matt tervooren

Worth & Worth is a unique hat store. Actually, It’s more like an art studio. My experience at W&W stretches back to about 2007. Between 2007-2009 I purchased five hats from Orlando (2 fur felt fedoras, a homburg, a short brimmed Panama and wide brimmed Panama). These serves as the basics for the start of my collecting journey which has spanned from EBay vintage to Rome’s Borsalino store - and very local hatter I can find as I travel. I have found no hatter that is half the artist as Orlando Palacios. Today (3/13/25) I returned to W&W after a long hiatus. I traveled 2 hours from northeast PA expressly for this purpose. Orlando was away, his associate Pasha (questionable spelling) was delightful as we toured the studio. He was genuinely engaged as we explored what aesthetic and style suited my facial features and personality. I finally settled on three of their masterpieces - a homburg and two western. The selection makes it tough to leave with a single hat (if a fanatic), but you could just as easily find your “one and done” hat if a normal individual.

Orlando is an alchemist. He turns felt and fiber into art. As the Duke said, "It don't mean a thing if you ain't got the swing." Orlando has it! It was Christmas a year ago that I received my dove gray fedora which was a special gift from my daughter and son-in-law. Before he made the hat, he graciously met with us several times to make sure that everything met my needs. As an artist, I can speak for his talent and creativity. I am a man of many hats and this one is my absolute favorite. Thank you Orlando! You are a magnificent hatter.

BUYER BEWARE. Hard to know where to begin with these deceitful, dissembling store owners. Ultimately I obtained relief through American Express for this merchant's unscrupulous, documented lies. They do not make true"custom" hats. They modify existing hats they get overseas. And, even then, they either don't listen or don't care what the order is. Then they delay for months and months -- and lie about their progress -- all while keeping your money and continuing their "custom" bluff. They were not successful trying to deceitfully take money from me because I would not let them. Don't go through the trouble. There are other wonderful hatters in New York and elsewhere -- no need to waste your time and money with these people.

Had a great experience here! The space is set up almost like an art gallery and it feels like a special experience. It was a lot of fun getting proper measurements for my hat size and fit and picking out a hat. Cathy took her time helping me and I had a lot of fun with the experience. I was able to request/tweak the ribbon on my hat and they shaped it for my head shape so I could walk out with a customized hat perfect for me. Thank you Worth & Worth!

Well I can't say I've ever bought a custom made hat from a website. However I am beyond happy with the outcome! My Nu Blu hat arrived fast and in perfect condition. I look forward to my next purchase.

Made a trip from Baltimore just to have Orlando make me a top hot. Worth the trip just to meet him. Bonus was having him make me my Top hat.

Google
I was there last month. Best shopping experience I have had in twenty years! I am from Toronto. Can't find a decent Panama hat here any more. Cathy was absolutely fantastic to deal with! Patiently answered all my dumb questions. I bought an Amalfi Montecristi. Absolutely love it. Can not recommend this place more highly. I expect that after you buy in person once , buying and cleaning etc through long distance is easier.

Google
I went in person because I learned that you just can't buy a hat from a website, no more than shoes. My shopping experience was wonderful, because the delightful sales lady from England (who is a film maker) was amazing. She made us feel welcome and was very kind and helpful. I found a hat right away. The style fit me perfectly and of course the hat is of good quality. The price was not bad, no more than a Stetson. I own 2 Optimo hats made in Chicago and a few Stetsons, plus some Monti Cristo Panama hats. We live in the Hudson Valley of New York, so we made a nice day of venturing into Manhattan.

Yelp
Great hats and great customer service! I loved my Monticristi so much I bought a second.

Yelp
This place works miracles! My dog ate the bill off my husband's favorite hat, which is a 20+ year old IU hat he bought in college. Unbeknownst to him I saved the pieces and searched for a hat repair shop, stumbling across Worth & Worth via internet search. I emailed an inquiry to see if they would be able to repair it, received a prompt response, and mailed it on over. I am AMAZED at how well it turned out. Somehow they were able to perfectly match the 20 year old, sun-faded fabric. I gave it to him for Christmas and he was shocked to say the least. It's now officially the most expensive hat he owns, but well worth the cost to salvage something so sentimental.

Yelp
We met Orlando from Worth & Worth years ago as he was recommended to us by a friend and famous hat wearer of Orlando's creations. We were in search of a fedora but didn't want to go to your typical men's wear store. I was looking for an experience and wanted my husband to be styled by the best, and what an experience it was!! Orlando met us and styled my husband to perfection. He took the measurements but wait...there is more to it! Choosing the proper hat requires an eye for style and design not to mention the style, shape, color, brim size, & material. Everything was taken into consideration. Orlando is a true master at his craft and it shows, right down to placing the hat on my husband's head with that little adjustment of the brim to ensure he was being presented to the world properly. It is always a fantastic experience and we continue to go back. All of the hats owned by my husband are from Worth & Worth and I can tell you he looks great in all of them. He gets compliments wherever he goes.

Yelp
I would say this has been a 5 star experience all the way. While in town for a few days, the ladies in our lives lined up a boys day for us and a girls day of shopping for them. The boys day started with a sauna and shave at Paul Labrecque with lunch at Armani Ristorante. In between we would be stopping by Worth & Worth for Louis' annual hat purchase. As luck would have it, the night before as I rounded a corner the wind grabbed my New Zealand cap and blew it away. It happened so fast that by the time my hand reached my head it was gone and when I whipped around I didn't even catch a glimpse of it. We could only spend a minute looking for it since we had a show to catch and the others were in the first taxi. A call to the niece and boyfriend who lived upstairs resulted in a fruitless search in the cold. So during my wintery stroll from E 76th & 2nd to Paul Labrecque (W 67th and Columbus) through Central Park, my thoughts of "I'll enjoy looking at hats" changed to "I need a new hat ASAP". The even colder walk from there to Worth&Worth steeled my resolve to keep my head warm. When we arrived to the 6th floor location we were warmly greeted by Brandon who immediately recognized Louis. The shop was a little busy - Brandon was helping one client and a young woman was waiting for assistance. So we started looking for hats and styles that would suit our needs. In between working with the other client, Brandon would offer suggestions and advice. We also chatted with the young woman who had purchased an expensive hat at another store that doesn't work on them and it didn't fit quite right. We, of course, good naturedly teased her about not coming here in the first place and she agreed that she should have. After finishing with the other client, and assisting the young woman, Brandon helped us. he measured and discussed and narrowed down the choices. Now you must know - they have a selection of hats ready to wear, but they also make them to order. The workshop is right there behind the showroom with a small team of crafts-persons. The hat core is usually imported, but he finalized hat is done there in the workshop - the band installed, the blocking, etc. Since I was visiting from out of town, I was looking for a ready to wear. Louis, on the other hand, was getting one custom made. By the time I was measured and narrowed the selection down to a Felt hat, the Firenze model, and Louis to his normal selection, the Fellini, the shop had several persons waiting and we were hungry. So we had Brandon set aside the two hats I was interested in, and told him we would be back after some fortification - soup and bourbon at Armani. Upon our return we met Orlando, the owner of W&W. Between he and Brandon we were taken well care of, finalized our hat selections and were on our way. I had a slight change to the hat band, so had to return later to pick it up. It was ready to go when they promised. They also gave me a hat bag to keep the hat stored correctly and a brush to brush out the felt after each use. My final visit during this trip was to pick up an item I left in the store. This time I had my wife and daughter with me. Orlando and Brandon treated them as if they were old friends and showed them around the showroom and even invited them to see the workshop. Each time I was there, there was at least one other person in the showroom. Yet even with the constant stream of people, they handled every person with the personal attention they deserved. I would not think of going elsewhere for my next hat or cap.

Yelp
Had 2 hats delivered to me in Florida today, both Hats are Epic, I have over 50 hats these 2 are my new favorites. Thanks for the outstanding service!

Yelp
Seemed like the guy was wired, on edge..and he had dirty eyes, made me nervous, selection was tiny and expensive he was on edge, scary and very anxious to sell this one hat, I think it was the only thing in my size. , I was instantly convinced to buy one $500 hat that was my size, but not even close to my style, color or in my price range, I was ready to spend a hundred or more.. but not $500-550, Im a young man and looking for a real fodera, something nice quality, but 550 and tax is $600.. u honestly think everyone wants to spend that on a random hat? After his long rant, he convinced himself that all the sales pitches had sold me and we were ready to close the deal, all I did was listen to him talk.and never showed any interest at all. He was upset when I left, angry face, silent.. no. Just NO. Did not like the proprietor, selection was worse, quality looked good. But the general vibe was sketchy as hell

Yelp
Luxury retail meets the old world. The absolute finest haberdasher / hat-makers from eat to west. The service is like no other. True artistry and the finest qualities. The new shop is absolutely beautiful, arrange a fitting and you won't be disappointed!

Yelp
WORST HAT REPAIR EVER! Di not even THINK about trying to get your hat repaired hear. Owner is never at the store and instead gallivanting around the country on vacation. They were going to mail my heirloom collapsible top hat to him in California to fix without even asking my permission. He did not follow any of my directions and make a collapsible top hat NOT COLLAPSE anymore. Not to mention the fax that his employees have a terrible attitude and don't even acknowledge customers. I had to call multiple times and ended up having to come back and reduce the hat from this talentless Hack. They have no clue what they are doing. STAY AWAY!

Yelp
I have been purchasing high quality hats in fine hat shops for decades. I love it -- I enjoy the hat culture and the shopping experience as much as I enjoy wearing hats. Worth & Worth is in a different category than all of those experiences. This is much more akin to buying a perfectly tailored guitar from an experienced luthier than to buying a Stetson from a reseller. For about a year I had considered ordering a hat from Worth & Worth online. But because I have invested too much money in fedoras that were not quite right in one way or another (both in fit and style), I was hesitant to pull the trigger. My wife and I were visiting NYC, so I decided to stop into the shop and try some hats on in person. We were greeted by the proprietor, Orlando Palacios. Not only is he one cool guy (in the most positive sense of the phrase), but he knows hats (he makes them!) and he knows style and he also hears what you have to say about what you're looking for. Orlando and his crew put together all the elements we had agreed were right, and before long I had a fantastic hat that I would have never arrived at if left to my own devices. My wife and I agreed it was perhaps the best NY shopping experience we had ever had. Probably because it wasn't like shopping at all. More like a really good hang that resulted in a killer hat I'm not going to see anyone else wearing when I'm out walking that dog.

Yelp
Beware this place. I went in to find a hat band for one of my hats and was quoted one price at selection, then charged a higher price at check out. I returned to have the hat band put on after looking at other options, only to be quoted one price, then charged a higher price at pick up. When I tried to protest, the owner, Orlando, said that he had "been in the business too long to haggle." It seems like a decent store with a lot of positive reviews. It's unfortunate that they do not appear to value all customers the same, regardless the purchase. I guess good customer service only goes to those who spend the money.

Rafael M.

Yelp
Their attention to detail is worth every penny! The only thing that makes it better is their turn around time, which was lightning quick. I took them a 1of 1 1927 inspired baseball cap to be enlarged and these guys made it look as if nothing had been sewed. Thank you!

Yelp
I was referred to the Worth and Worth showroom in NYC and so happy i went. I met with Orlando and with a look and slight adjustment of my new hat I was sold! I loved the look on me!! His showroom is amazing He has so many beautiful hats with rich colors. I bought an amber colored hat with colored stitching on it. It definitely is one of a kind and I am always getting compliments on it. I have been referring everyone to this hat shop. The staff were very cordial and friendly. Wishing them much success!

Yelp
My husband was in need of a top hat and we heard Worth and Worth was the place to go. Luckily, we had a trip to NYC planned and we were able to stop by in person quite easily. A previous reviewer seemed to take issue with the demographic of the Worth and Worth clientele. I don't really know how that relates to the skill of the people who work at Worth and Worth, but the reality is that upper middle class dandies from Wall Street and K Street are probably the guys who pay the rent - and result in Worth and Worth being profiled places like GQ. We also took the elevator up to the 6th floor. We walked into the showroom and were immediately helped by a very tall, very skinny, very hip guy who came across as a true craftsman of hats. The showroom was a good size, but not huge. There were hats everywhere, of all sorts. Most of them were men's hats, but there were some hats for women as well. The gentleman listened to my husband's request and came back immediately with the hat in question. He did a fantastic fitting of the Mister's head and offered to fit the hat while we waited. We took him up on his offer and waited maybe ten minutes before he reappeared with a perfectly tailored hat. The Mister set it on his head and pronounced it 'the one.' We were given the option of having it shipped back to home to Virginia, which we gladly took them up on. We were charged a very reasonable amount for shipping and the top had arrived in its own hat box not long after we got home. Worth and Worth is a great place, because it is a place that still values craftsmanship. This isn't one-size-fits-all made-in-China crap, but hand constructed haberdashery done well. If you're in the market for the best hat you can find... find it at Worth and Worth.

Yelp
I went in here today And I was assisted by Olando Palacious the creator of worth & worth, he helped me with head measurements, Orlando also helped me select a perfect hat for an event that i have coming up meaning halloween custom and at the same time an everyday hat I can get to wear. Orlando is from Nicaragua and definitively is the creator and will explain to you the material the color going on with the hat, color matching that can happen with the hats he has available. He explains to you the art of shaping your hat. In conclusion great location it is my first hat and i would recommend to buy your hat here !!!!!!!

Yelp
Wonderful array of unique but not simply different hats with careful fitting. Great services.

Yelp
Great shop and super friendly owner, Orlando. Terrific service and beautiful hats. Can't wait to pick up my Madison and buy my next Montecristi for the summer. A must stop if you're in NYC and want a quality hat.

Yelp
What a fantastic experience! I was in need of a hat for upcoming Masonic Lodge officer duties... discovered Worth & Worth and glad I did! Exceptionally friendly and helpful folks and... honest opinions (what looked good and what didn't on my giant noggin!)! The store is very cool and one instantly feels "at home." Again, a fantastic experience! March, 2014

Yelp
Bought a nice hat from Orlando today. Actually, I love the hat. His hats are custom and have any amount of style you are looking for. The felt I selected is the "hombre" with just a touch of red for a faded look. Orlando selected several hats for me to try and took his time until we found the right one. He and his wife were incredibly nice and easy to work with. I'm sure I'll be back. Thanks Orlando!

Yelp
I got a bad experience with #hatshot manager ! RUDE with people with foreign accent!!!Sorry U.S is a land with accents! Is Magical to get people from everywhere in the World !!! I don't know yet how is the hat because they have 3 weeks late..maybe one day ! The fact is we don't want to call this business again AND WE ARE WAITING FOR THE HAT ! Maybe once we will get it, we will be happy but really the phone contact with this business is not nice.

Yelp
I am a huge hat lover of many kinds, and the past few years I have really began a love affair with fedoras, especially vintage ones. Doing some research and talking to other fedora lovers, collectors, and wearers in the New York area I learned that many of the great hat shops are no longer in business. However everyone I spoke to pointed me in the direction of Worth & Worth, one of the few great hat shops still going strong. When I first arrived at the location and waited for the elevator I was joined by a very business, elitist looking middle aged gentleman who was clearly on his way up to visit Worth & Worth as well. He gave me some dirty looks, as I am younger he seemed to maybe not like that I was wearing a vintage straw hat with a t-shirt and jeans, as he was decked out in a very expensive suit. I smiled at him and said "hi" but he rolled his eyes and turned away. I had feared that this was going to be the reaction from the staff at Worth & Worth as I also heard and experienced that many hat lovers can be a bit snobby and judgmental. As the elevator arrived I almost turned around and left, fearing that I was going to have a similar experience with the staff. However I got on the elevator, and I am so glad I did. As myself and the other gentleman walked in we were greeted warmly by one of the workers there. I was immediately helped by a super friendly gentleman named Brandon who immediately complimented my hat and style and made me feel right at home. I instantly had a great connection with him as he is of similar age and we shared a lot of the same opinions about hats and hat wearers! He immediately assisted me with my needs which was getting new ribbons for two vintage hats. His suggestions and help were fantastic. He took his time with me and had so much passion for hats and everything associated with them that it was exciting and inspiring. Long story short, I had the hats worked on there and when I picked them up a few days later they looked and felt fantastic. I am so happy there is a hat shop of this caliber still around and who not only sell hats but work on them also! And speaking of the hats for sale, the hats made there are beautiful. I have not purchased an original Worth & Worth yet but they are on my radar. I still have a few hats of my own to be serviced before I can start saving up for one of them, but I look forward to the day when I can have one in my collection. There is nothing like walking into a hat shop. Especially when the staff is so friendly and welcoming. Worth & Worth is definitely WORTH the visit, business, and experience! Support your local hat shop!!!

Yelp
Great service, great experience; a must visit for anyone wanting to buy a hat. Orlando, the owner, and his wife are experts and give very helpful, friendly advice. Obviously, if they don't have in stock what you are looking for, they will make it for you. FYI, they supply hats to movie/TV productions, for example Boardwalk Empire.

Damian M.

Yelp
I've had a turn of the century top hat from Paris for several years now. It's mostly been for show but on the last few occasions I wore it out on the town & the sweat band broke it also didn't have a bow on the side when I bought it. I called Worth & Worth to see if they would work on my antique & they did such a beautiful job! They even made the hat fit me better than it did before. I'll always refer these guys!

Joseph D.

Yelp
Orlando Palacios and his team at Worth and Worth never disappoint. They are expert hat makers and only the finest hats will leave the atelier with their approval. The most exquisite Monticristi's and brisa materials make for either a dressed up or laid back hat for the summer season. I have had 6 custom made hats from the atelier and they have all been absolutely perfect. Great people, stellar customer service and the best product that one can expect.

Matt T.

Yelp
Had a great experience at Worth & Worth! I purchased my hat from them when I was visiting the city a few weeks ago, and found out that I was in between sizes. They measured my head and made it so the hat I wanted would fit me perfectly. I didn't get to leave with my hat right then, they shipped it to me when the alterations were complete, and, let me tell you, it was worth it. The hat is a perfect fit, and I love it!

Page R.

Yelp
Went here today to get my husband a classic fedora for Christmas. I couldn't have felt more at home. The man that helped me was knowledgable, personable and professional. The hat I bought is beautiful yet not overly expensive. Worth & Worth, you have a life long customer!

Russell S.

Yelp
Simply the best. I brought in a 20-year-old Stetson for resizing, cleaning and blocking and it came better than I could have expected. I even bought a new hat while I was there. Brandon is unbelievably helpful and his ideas on style and design make the entire experience pleasurable. Prices are quite reasonable for the quality available, and the variety of styles, colors and fabrics is hard to imagine for such a small space. Don't even bother to shop around--just go here and be confident that you're buying the best.

Chris M.

Yelp
Wide selections of hats for all tastes. Orlando and his staff are the best, and they are super friendly and nice. The nicest group of people in all of NYC's high-end designer/luxury stores. They take the time to talk to you to get to know you, and your tastes in hats. They are like my second family in NYC. Their service is like no other, and their store layout grabs you the moment you exit the elevator, hat heaven, if it's not already made, or Orlando can't make it the hat doesn't exist. Orlando's hat skills and designs are out of this world, super talented.

Sean W.

Yelp
Nothing shy of completely awesome. I brought in a busted old Harley Davidson captain's hat to have a new sweatband and lining put in. The employees were friendly and professional, and in no time at all my dirty old biker hat was (literally) good as new. Prices are more than reasonable, if not downright cheap and the craftsmanship is top notch. Best hat shop in New York, hands down.

Jonathan B.

Yelp
Walked into Worth & Worth to buy a lower priced straw hat and left with two hats. Fantastic, comfortable no pressure experience.

Andrew V.

Yelp
Best hat shop I've ever been to. The store is beautiful. Cathy the sales manager is fantastic and helped me find the hats I was looking for and the correct size. They also made me a custom color version of one of the hats. The entire process was everything I could ask for. When I came back to pickup my custom hat I met Orlando the owner/hat maker. He was very cool/welcoming. Worth and Worth will definitely be my go to hat shop moving forward.

J I.

Yelp
Consistently great and cool-looking hat designs. They can also make you a custom hat (where you pick shape, material, everything) for a price that is often less than some high end hats cost at luxury retailers like Bergdorfs, Barneys, JJ Hat Center etc. For example, I was quoted $225 for a completely custom Milan straw hat.

M.L. C.

Yelp
Although the store caters to men, they worked with me to create a custom beaver felt fedora. They even shopped for ribbon trim so I could get the color I wanted. The hat is absolutely exquisite. I wear it nearly every day during autumn, winter and the cool spring days. The hat makes me feel very pulled together and stylish, and people compliment me on it every time I wear it. Considering the quality of the materials, the cost was about the same as an off-the-rack Borsolino which is too stiff for a woman to wear. I'm bringing it in for its first blocking and my head will feel naked without it. Thank you Worth & Worth!

Dan K.

Yelp
Every gentleman needs a hat and when it's time to buy yours, this is where you will go. Courteous, knowledgeable, helpful staff with a wide selection. Your head will thank you.
