We got some nice breads and pineapple cake from this famous bakery while recovering from indigestion issue in Taipei and Kaohsiung. Luckily their breads / buns are good and we especially like their Salzburg ham & cheese bread, floss & seaweed bun, and red-bean bun. The bakery shop is nicely decorated and quite spacious so you can shop with no anxiety like in other bakeries across Taiwan. The customer services from staff members are also good and they reasonably speak adequate English for tourists like us, but don't expect much conversation. However, you can ask about their products in English and get reasonable / understandable reply. Prices are still good value for the high quality, though they may feel high compared to other bakeries' offering in the area.

I am so impressed with this bakery! I love bread, and always thought that such a high quality bakery could only be found in Europe. This place is every bit as good as famous French bakeries! Unfortunately there is not really any seating, but maybe that’s just as well, because if there was, I would probably stay all day buying more and more bread snacks.

Loves the bread here. The loaf, the buns, etc. The variations and creativity are good. It satisfies my Carbo craves. My favourite is the Custarnova - the custard is fresh and soft, sesame mochi 😋, brown raisin - simple yet yummy, brown sugar loaf, etc.

As a french traveler and bakery lover, I haven't been disappointed. I even went twice. They propose delicious and refined bakeries, mixing asian products with well executed european bakery classics, be it the bread or puff pastry. Really accessible for people who don't understand mandarin as product's descriptions are translated in english. Furthermore, you can pick the bakeries yourself.

Google
Wu Pao Chun Bakery in Kaoshuing! We were in bread heaven. The most amazing and interesting breads to be had - edamame and tuna, earl grey and cranberry bagels, strawberry and cheese sourdough and more! Their millet wine, rose petals and lychee bread even won BEST BREAD at the 2010 Bakery Masters in Paris. It was pretty darn good.

Visited Wu Pao Chun's bakery after watching his autobiography movie. It's so famous that the queue was really long, and everything sold out so quick. Love their new Rose Lover bread( the one with two hearts). So happy that I've finally tried their famous Taiwan Lychee Rose champion Bread, yum!

This bakery is well-known and some of its products are really good. Worth giving it a try. This store in Kaohsiung is the main store and they have a Taipei branch.

Yelp
Wu Pao Chun Bakery is one of the most well-known bakeries in Kaohsiung City (高雄市). In fact it is so famous that it even has its own Wikipedia page ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wu_Pao_Chun_Bakery ). The bakery (founded in 2010) is best known for its award-winning breads including the Taiwan Longan With Red Wine Bread (酒釀桂圓麵包) which earned 2nd place in the 2008 Coupe du Monde de la Boulangerie (World Cup of Baking) and the Lychee Rose Bread (荔枝玫瑰麵包) which took 1st place at Les Masters de la Boulangerie in 2010. This is the flagship location, but if you are not able to make it to their flagship location then they actually has a booth located in HSR Zuoying Station (左營高鐵站). However please note that there could be some delay as HSR Zuoying Station receives batches of bread from the flagship store. Can't come to KaoHsiung? They also got a branch in Taipei in Xinyi District (台北信義旗艦店). [How to get here]: Approximately 16-minute walk from the Kaohsiung MRT Sanduo Shopping District Station (三多商圈) Station. [Special Note]: Our party arrived at 11:15 AM and only to learn that the Lychee Rose Bread wouldn't be available until after 12 PM. At that time, only about 80% of their full selection had been baked. *** Taiwan Longan With Red Wine Bread (酒釀桂圓麵包 5 slices for 210 NTD or full loaf for 370 NTD): The longan tasted deliciously and the bread was soft with a slightly nutty texture and a sweet aftertaste. Mille Feuille Egg Tart (浪花千層蛋塔 80 NTD): This had a crispy and flaky crust with a caramelized top layer. I haven't found an egg tart with this kind of wavy and flaky crust anywhere in Southern California. Pineapple and yolk cake (鳳黃酥 53 NTD): Not something I could eat every day, but definitely tasted really good. Pineapple cake (鳳梨酥 40 NTD): The crust was crispy and the sweetness was just right. I actually prefer this over Chia Te (佳德) and SunnyHills (微熱山丘). Levain Mentaiko French Bread (魯邦明太子法國麵包 75 NTD): I sampled this one and it is essentially a French baguette infused with mentaiko (pollock roe). It had a unique aroma, but I am not sure I'd personally recommend it. *** Hands down this is one of the best Taiwanese bakeries I've ever been to in my lifetime. They seriously need to open a branch in Southern California just like how 85°C Bakery has been expanding in USA over the past decade. P.S. - I finally got to try the Lychee Rose Bread at HSR Zuoying Station and I only wish I could have brought more of these incredible breads back to Southern California!

Yelp
Back 10 years ago when ever i would go back to taiwan i would have to bring back bread. The influence of japan and European breads make taiwan bread to a different level. In the past they have only a few stores in Taiwan and i had preorder the breads a few days before. This time finally after 4 year absent due to Covid restrictions i came back to taiwan to see multiples shops open and one within walking distance to my grandma house. I have gotten the favorite the 2010 Master baker winning bread in paris the lycee- rose bread. Also just as a non shocker the bread is very heavy i usually freeze it before coming back and it does cost about 10 but if a full loaf of dense french bread. Once you tasted Bread in Taiwan there is nothing like it. But everything there was delicious the apple pie, the taro bread. This particular shop i went to might if been in the train station or the one in the giant egg its was busy and the lines are long better get bread early because they do run out fast especially in the train station. But the service is fast and everyone is pleasant. Ambiance brightly lite and busy.

Yelp
So amazing. This bakery is the best one I visited while I was in Taiwan. The line moves fast and they are constantly handing out huge, generous samples. The rose lychee bread is what they're known for here, but they only sell it in huge loaves. However, you can't go wrong with anything you choose to eat. The bread here is fluffy on the inside, crisp on the outside. Each pastry/bread is packed with flavor.

Yelp
Love it here so much! My favorite bakery in the world. Super fluffy, and best of all no bloating or chubby feeling after! I swear this is the healthiest bread I've ever eaten! I've had this everyday since I've been here since I'm vegetarian and it's hard for me to find a lot of options, and wow! I am obsessed everything is so good, and filling. Nothing like the bread back in California which makes you fat in two days lol this place defy needs a location in Los Angeles !

Yelp
We stopped in here after our lunch next door at Tim Ho Wan. I'd first encountered Wu Pao Chun when they made a fuss a few years ago by winning a competition with their longan bread (or maybe the litchi one). I ended up taking two loaves back to California with me lol. Cut to recently when I was so happy to see that they have a location at the Han Shen Arena mall in their food court area. It is a VERY small location and they do their best setting up ropes to keep the foot traffic going in the most efficient direction but we did end up bumping into folks. Unfortunately, I didn't get around to eating two out of the four things I ended up buying but the mentaiko breadstick was really good as was this angel food cake-style thing that turned out to be less cake and more really soft sweet bread. Definitely high quality bread so check it out.

Yelp
Sure, Wu won several awards and a championship of some sort of French baking, but to what extent would you go to try this place? While waiting in line, the second guy in line fainted and started having a seizure. All of us started freaking out and knocked on the store window but was ignored because everyone inside probably thought we were some crazy impatient fanatics. Fortunately, it was close to 10 when all this happened so it wasn't long when they opened, saw what was going on, and called the ambulance. The guy regained a bit of conscience and took some complimentary bread and tea given by the store. The ambulance came and did he leave? No. He gave 500NT to the assistant and told her what he wanted. What can I say, guy wanted fresh bakery and no epilepsy is going to stop him from getting some. Place opens at 10am but the line starts forming at 9am. We arrived at 9:15am and were fourth in line. Around 9:45am, an assistant walks around giving huge pieces of samples to the people waiting. When the door opens, you'll find complimentary drinks next to the door, and fresh bakery all around. Their signature loaves are from 320-370NT and their single ones are from 120-220NT. They also have pineapple cakes for 1000NT, and pineapple and yolk for 600NT. They're pricier than most bakery places in Taiwan but there is no doubt that it is one of the best that I've ever had in Taiwan. Even their pineapple cakes have a certain soft texture that melts in my mouth. It's not too sweet nor sour but warm and clean. The baker uses a hint of European flavor and design so it's not your normal Taiwanese bread made of pure butter and milk. Very French and Italian. The most I've spent on bread and I'll still come back!

Yelp
I had read an article years back on the award winning bread of Wu Pao Chun, but never thought I'd get to taste it. Fast forward a bit and while planning a trip to Taiwan, I rediscovered the existence of this famous bread. I was so sad when I realized I forgot to go in Taipei, but then I realized that the original store is in Kaohsiung. So despite only being in Kaohsiung for a day, we made sure to stop by the bakery. Even as you're walking by the store, you can smell all the wonderful breads being baked inside. And as you walk in, you're greeted by an overwhelmingly beautiful display of fresh breads, all which look and seem delicious! They were handing out samples as you walked in, and you could tell the bread was high quality. Unfortunately, I was only traveling with one other person, and you can only keep bread for so long. So we had to somewhat control ourselves and not buy everything. This meant that we didn't get to try all of their award winning breads. We ended up buying: +Litchi Rose Champion Bread (NT 350): this was the bread I had read about and wanted to try out the most. They only had a full loaf available so expect to eat it for a while. I was so impressed by it. The bread is fragrant, and has this amazing chewy/fluffy (Sorry for the lack of proper bread terminology) texture. The litchi is flavorful, and the rose is more subtle and complimentary. Definitely get this bread! +Taiwan Longan with Red Wine Bread (NT 199 for half loaf): this is the original award winning bread, and it was also delicious, although after having the first bread, this one was not as amazing. I did feel like you could enjoy the texture of the bread a little better though, because there were less longan in it than the litchi. +Melon Bread (NT 30): after eating the European-style breads, the texture of the melon bread just seemed dry and uninteresting. A bit disappointing, but could also be because we didn't get around to trying it until the next day. +Matcha Melon Bread (NT 45): this was the Kaohsiung store special, so we wanted to try it. But like the melon bread, it just wasn't impressive. It's amazing how something like bread can bring someone happiness, but that's actually what the Wu Pao Chun champion breads did for me. Yes the prices are a bit on the more expensive side for Taiwan, but I think it is well worth it! If I'm ever in Taiwan again, I would absolutely make the effort to visit one of their bakeries to try some more bread. On a final note, some Yelp reviews said it is cash only, but I was able to pay with card!

Yelp
Line starts at 9:45am each morning for this award winning bakery. Correction- number 1 bakery in the world. Must try: -mango bagel -lychee walnut bread -red bean bun -jam It's hard not to spend over 1,000NT on bread so watch your spending!

Yelp
This bakery has won many awards for its bread. People wait outside before the bakery opens. Someone usually comes out and gives some bread samples to waiting customers. Once inside, it's a free-for-all! Grab your bread and check out in line! Make sure to grab +++ Taiwan litchi rose champion bread +++ +++ Taiwan longan with red wine bread +++

Yelp
Wupaochun is all the rage among locals, so I had to give it a try. The guy that started this place is some sort of legend because of his baking skills. He entered some baking competition in France and won first place. He's an inspiration to a lot of ppl because the guy also grew up really poor. They've got a few specialty breads. They're big and can feed a couple of ppl. Just go try it. Across the street is a pretty good beef noodle joint. I don't remember the name though.

Yelp
Being someone who eats for fuel, I pride myself on sticking to high protein, leafy greens and healthy fats. But once I'm in this bakery my regimen and inhibitions go completely out the window. I can't resist myself. No one can, and that's why it seems like a free-for-all once you are allowed in. Yes, allowed. There's so many people waiting to get their hands on these baked goods (and for good reason) that the store has to manage the number of guests allowed in at one time. Nothing here is short of amazing and I've tried all sorts of selections here. The textures and flavors range and the flavors vary. Describing those in vivid detail would not be doing justice to what you're about to taste. Try them out for yourself!

Yelp
Most famous bakery in Kaohsiung because the bread maker won some international award. The shop is smaller than expected, but the quality looks quite nice. Cash only in the shop, credit card cannot be used.

Margaret C.

Yelp
Lovely bakery with interesting and creative product range. They use good quality ingredients. The milky pastry are very rich and tasty. The awards winning bread are actually sourdough style sweet bread, not your typical sweet fluffy Asian bread. A must try bakery if you are in the area.

Hey M.

Yelp
Great selection of pastries and bread, complimentary tea when entering the shop and a couple of tables inside in case you can't wait to sample the goods. The number one seller bread is 350 NTD for one round loaf, but the rest of the selection is more reasonably priced. English names for all products in case you want to know what you're about to buy. Baguettes are proper french style with thick crust and chewy inside.
