LA’s New Restaurant Openings

"It’s a new year and aesthetic coffee shops still have LA in a chokehold. The latest is Wynd Coffee in Virgil Village, and it looks chic: lots of stainless steel and beige, plus it doubles as an art gallery (of course). Wynd is currently open on weekends only and serves a tight menu of espresso drinks, matcha, and a few signature beverages like an iced muscovado latte." - cathy park

Excellent coffee shop, stopped here randomly and am so happy I did. The clarified yuzu coffee is beautiful, it’s almost like a syrupy cocktail drink and it’s incredible. Also had the almond yuzu croissant and it was delicious, recommend getting it warmed up. Overall, this was a lovely place and I’m excited to see it get more popular ♥️

Located right across Good Friend, this area had tons of great options! Used to be pop-ups only, it was awesome to finally have Wynd permanently. A simple small space by the corner, with few tables for 2-3 both inside and outside. The menu was not like lengthy or overly complicated, but I would say enough selections to choose from and did feature some of their signature ones. The line might get lengthy on weekend and wouldn't be easy to find seats. So it would surely not a surprise that by noon the pastry case only left with a piece of cookie. The serving time was impressively swift though despite being pretty busy. As of now, it was surely more like order, sip, and go instead of hanging for awhile given the hectic space. I got their Musvocado Latte with almond milk, which came with tad steep additional 75p charge. Nonetheless, the coffee was outstanding; perfect level of boldness with light touch of acidity, well balanced by the sweetness and caramel hint from the musvocado sugar. I could easily made it climb to my top list of favorite latte in town!

In the mornings it’s not crazy busy. Parking can be challenging. Tried the clarified yuzu coffee and I think this drink gets better as the ice melts (the big single cube of ice melts pretty slowly tho). I drank it over a course of a few hours and it had a more interesting flavor profile as time passed IMO. Would make a good cocktail too. Also tried their sweet latte (tres leches)? And it was pgood. They tend to be on the pricier side and a bit small. Menu will prob expand over time. Also no pour overs here 😭 it’s a cool spot, but not one I would repeat often but def will be back sometime soon.

They serve very unique drinks (I thought the yuzu clarified coffee was really interesting). Service was very fast and really personable and friendly. Recommend stopping by.

Eagerly waiting for this spot to open back up!! Virgil recently had its first ever block party, and Wynd did a pop-up menu (before officially opening up the full thing) to participate with the community and holy cow, each drink was INSANELY good!! Dessert coffee flavors, and others that looked like if coffee could be a mocktail — super inventive and delicious drinks that are a must try, and while you’re at the coffee corner try Good Friend directly across the street too, they have superb roasts/ classic specialties with a great environment as well!!! UPDATE: They have matcha too now, and I’ve never liked matcha in my life but the cloud matcha was SSOOO good. Tried the muscavado latte as well, delicious although the other specialties are just a bit more special!✨this is dessert, with coffee on the side lol

Google
I went to their soft opening, which only had a preview menu. And omg, if that’s just the preview, I’m so excited to see the full menu! I had their clarified yuzu punch with coffee, and it was so delicious. I’m not usually a coffee drinker, and I think about it constantly. My partner loved the Tres Leche drink! Update: I went back when they added a few more items to their menu, plus pastries and a pop-up dessert by From Alice. I had an oat matcha latte, still 10/10!

Primarily my coffee is drunk at gas stations and donut shops, born out of energetic necessity and I am more or less unfamiliar with drinking it recreationally. I went into Wynd Coffee with apprehension and left feeling welcomed and satisfied, a result of the owners' dedicated vision to an accessible approach to the depths of coffee culture. People cut from a very hip cloth filled every seat of the space, the decor utterly lacking in pretension, and I scanned the homely cups to decide my drink order: the very popular yuzu coffee. I took a gingerly sip of it, and was struck by how clean and clear the taste of yuzu was while hiding a slight bitter note of coffee. I wanted to order another, but was informed that said clean taste hides a concentration of caffeine, and reconsidered. The owner informed me that they clarify the milk overnight with an exactitude for quality that if the standard for their taste test isn't achieved the following morning, the whole batch is discarded. The quality control is intense, I thought to myself, but a certain standard has to be enforced for such an enjoyable, unique cup as the one I had. One imagines a future where that same eye for detail is pored over the future art exhibitions to be showcased on their blank canvas of a wall, and one cannot help but be excited about the development of a nice little coffee shop still taking burgeoning, yet surprisingly well-defined steps.

Google
I got influenced by @withbrandonn to try this place and I saw it on my way to Courage Bagels down the street. The clarified yuzu coffee is such a unique dink and if you like yuzu or citrusy things, you will love it. It didn’t really taste like coffee exactly but I suppose that is not really the point. Also beware that there is milk in the drink even though it appears clear! $8 for the tiny drink is kinda diabolical but it’s definitely a drink worth trying once for the experience. The cafe is really aesthetic, service is so wonderful, and I can’t wait for the art gallery to open!

Yelp
As if one newcomer wasn't enough, the area now came with another one, Wynd, located right across Good Friend. Finally after several pop-ups Wynd now opens every weekend. A simple small space by the corner, with few tables for 2-3 both inside and outside. The menu was still pretty limited, but I would say enough selections to choose from and did feature some of their signature ones. Prolly being relatively new as well, the line might get lengthy and wouldn't be easy to find seats. So it would surely not a surprise that by noon the pastry case only left with a piece of cookie. The serving time was impressively swift though despite being pretty busy. As of now, it was surely more like order, sip, and go instead of hanging for awhile given the hectic space. Yelp
Welcoming the newest addition to the Virgil neighborhood! Skimming through their menu, the Clarified Yuzu with Coffee caught my eye. It is an enjoyable drink with large craft ice, and I enjoyed its viscous texture. The yuzu flavor is subtle, and I could taste more of a caramel flavor, most likely from the coffee. It is a lovely, mild drink. I also tried their Matcha Cloud, and it was delicious! I consider it more of a dessert-type drink. The foam on top was so creamy, and the earthiness from the matcha gave a nice finish after every sip. They have a variety of pastries, ranging from savory, such as a ham and cheese croissant, to sweet, such as an orange snail, a type of glazed bun. I got their plain croissant, warmed up. It was around $23 plus tax for all three items. The owners were holding down the bar, handcrafting the drinks to order. Parking is more forgiving in this area. Overall, I look forward to trying their Clarified Yuzu drink again!

Yelp
A perfect Sunday morning cafe spot -- service, drinks, and overall ambience was amazing! We got some pastries and drinks and everything was very unique but delicious! Even the ham and cheese croissant was very unique but one of the best ones I've had in awhile. I got the cloud matcha and it was very thick and creamy, also on the sweeter side which I love. Would definitely be back!
