"Since 1975, Xico has elevated Latinx and Indigenous artists, who are the backbone of Phoenix’s art and culture scene. The gallery relocated to a handsome century-old brick building with original walls and a high exposed industrial ceiling in 2020. Pieces displayed in the humble, intimate space span local, national, and international. It's also practically on Roosevelt Row, downtown Phoenix’s bustling enclave of new bars and eateries. And if you get thirsty, Xico Gallery abuts Barcoa , a watering hole that pours a dizzying range of tequilas, mezcals, and other Mexican spirits." - Chris Malloy

Xico is a Latino & Indigenous Arts Organization located on 1st Ave & Roosevelt in the same building as Barcoa. Not going to lie- I had only ever been to the drinking side of the building before Friday when I was offered a brief guided tour of the gallery. Speaking with Esai (assistant ro the director of curatorial services and programs) about the gallery was a genuine delight. As a fully non-profit organization, Xico's primary goal is to support local artists by offering printmaking workshops, artist-lead classes, and a place to display their art. They also have a wide variety of other events and programs to support the community, like mobile art outreach and programs for impacted youth. Who would have guessed all this is hidden behind the bead curtain at the local Cantina? Next time you're passing by (or grabbing a drink at @barcoaphx), be sure to stop by and check out the Mercado @xicoinc

This studio is in great location near downtown! Event hosted by AARP that highlighted local artist David. We did Holiday or Southwest paintings. Very relaxing and fun event that lasted three hours! Definitely recommend this studio!

They hosted the Phoenix urban sketching group for a workshop. The staff was very friendly and inviting and the space itself is a great collection of local artists and workshops/classes. Parking isn’t too bad for downtown either.

Yelp
Very neat Indigenous and Latinx art space and shop. Everything is local. Come visit and support local artists and artisans! They have events too where you get to share and experience the space by creating together.

Yelp
This place is pretty cool. Love the gallery. I haven't taken one of their workshops yet, but I plan to. I try to stop by every first Friday. The girl with red hair that works there is great, really friendly and informative. She really knows what she is talking about. The only reason I didn't rank this place higher is there was this older lady there, I think her name was Donna or something like that. I'm assuming she was a volunteer or something, but she just glared at me and my boyfriend the entire time I was there. It really discouraged me from buying anything.
