I’ve been trying the food here for a couple of years now and my first two or so experiences were phenomenal. I like to treat myself to lunch when having grocery shopped here because we don’t live close to the place and there’re no good Asian options near us.
Loved the Mongolian beef and chicken. Since then I have also had the house special fried rice (today’s lunch), the beef with vegetables, broccoli beef, chicken fried rice, and of course the Mongolian beef and chicken again a few times, in addition to crab rangoon, egg drop soup and egg rolls.
I would say the only consistency has been in the quality of the rice and egg rolls. Pretty sure they’re using the same kind of rice I prefer at home, calrose. It’s almost always perfectly cooked. The egg rolls are always tasty.
The egg drop soup is basically yellow water. I had it once where they seemed to actually make good egg drop soup that day. Egg drop soup is not hard at all to make but this stuff they have is a joke. No seasoning. No egg really. It’s literally like yellow water.
No seasoning at all in my house fried rice today. Plenty of meat, egg, diced carrots etc. just that not one bit had any flavor. Had to add a bunch of soy sauce at home which is not my favorite thing when I pay for cooked food. The first time I had the beef with vegetables, amazing, flavorful and lots of good fresh veggies. Second time, barely any flavor and very lacking in vegetables. The broccoli beef I got once, barely any flavor, bland. Fried rice main dishes are hit or miss. Consistency is the largest missing factor with this place.
I don’t think I will get anything next time I grocery shop here. I can go home and cook way better Asian food and that’s really sad because I am a white lady (but I know how to season food). I made way better oyakodon in my rice cooker yesterday than today’s fried rice from here. This place unfortunately seems to be happy just being middle of the road okay. It’s not bad and not the worst Asian food, it’s just not as special as it was when we first started going out of our way to get food here.
