"Equal parts audio-visual installation and Chinese grilled skewer spot, Xinjiang BBQ in San Gabriel delivers one of the trippier late-night eating experiences in LA. You start by using your phone to order a pile of spice-rubbed skewers—various chicken parts, lamb, seafood, vegetables, etc.—followed by more drinking snacks and beer. Projectors screen giant virtual backdrops onto the walls, while small TVs at each table play catchy pop music videos. There will probably be someone attempting karaoke. The food is decent, but this place stimulates your eyes and ears as much as it does your mouth. Open until 2am weekdays, and until 3am on weekends." - brant cox, arden shore, nikko duren, sylvio martins, garrett snyder

"A new Chinese barbecue restaurant has opened in Linda Vista, replacing the old Saigon Restaurant location adjacent to Thuan Phat supermarket. This is the second location of Xinjiang BBQ, which opened in Monterey Park in 2017. Inspired by meat dishes in Xinjiang, a city in northwestern China, the Chinese fusion restaurant also offers lamb soup, lamb chops, lamb kidneys, and lamb testicles as well as a good selection of barbecued skewers, including beef kabobs, crispy pork, Taiwanese sausage, and chicken gizzards which can be ordered spicy or mild. The menu extends to seafood snacks like barbeque oysters and spicy clams, plus fried rice, sweet sour fries, eggplant with garlic, and fried tofu. Sweets include skewers of grilled buns lightly dusted with sugar come on skewers and small desserts filled with yogurt and red bean paste. Designed like a 360-degree art installation, the immersive experience starts in the 2,800-square-foot restaurant’s lobby which is set with motion sensors so customers can interact with roving images on the floor. Giant screens on every wall display various scenes, including Chinese scroll paintings whose characters and objects move within the artwork. Each table also features individual screens broadcasting Chinese and Western music videos and microphones for karaoke. Owner Xun Tong tells Eater he plans on expanding the menu to include hot pot, and hopes to serve beer and soju once the restaurant receives its liquor license. Known for keeping late-night hours in Monterey Park, Xinjiang BBQ will also stay open late in Linda Vista. The restaurant is open from Monday to Thursday, 5 p.m. to 2 a.m., Friday and Saturday, 5 p.m. to 3 a.m., Sunday, 5 p.m. to midnight." - Helen I. Hwang

Was looking for a place that serves Chinese cumin lamb skewers. Apparently, when we looked on the list suggested on Yelp, my boyfriend immediately chose this one since it is known in China. He was craving more skewers after the ones we got from the 626 Night Market the previous weekend. It wasn't the same vendor at the Night Market but was still pretty good. It wasn't too overly spiced, and you can cater to your liking on how spicy or whether you want it more dry or not. Extra condiments on the table if you want to add more spices. It was kind of hard to find as it is located on a small boulevard and small stores. It barely has any street lights at night, and it's tucked all the way in the back corner of the little complex. You'll notice where they are since it is the only place that has a bright Christmas tree right in front of the store, and Christmas lights lit up all around to grab your attention. Since this is mainly a late night experience, you can use all the parking space in the complex to wait in your car while waiting for your turn. It's better if you speak Chinese when you go there. They do speak English. We came around 8.30 pm on a Friday night and waited about 40 minutes for two people. It was a good timing as it seems more people come here later in the evening and great for groups. I would suggest just order to-go ahead of time, pick it up, and enjoy at home. The place is very limited seating (max 35), lots of images/videos projected all along the walls. The chairs and seating are minimal decor, like you're seating at an outside bar vendor. It's nice that the place cooks the skewers outside where you're not covered in smoke. They will place the skewers as they're done cooking and place it on the main platter. At the time, it was $6.99 for 4 skewers. Place is definitely a fun experience, a bit trendy for the younger crowd. Probably not a place for family with children though.

The good got here at 5 and was seated immediately. 3 types of seasoning are table side for you. You order using barcode to your phone and menu populates for you to order. We ordered fried rice which for me was the winner, as well as shrimp, chicken heart, pork belly-aka bacon, and tongue. Huge disappointment on the pork belly should have known as plenty of pictures show why it looks like. Beer selection is ok for the venue. Not an expensive meal which was on the brighter side. Less of date night more for the boys out drinking.

Only one cashier one service person. Sitting at the table waiting for one hour, the people who cane in more late , but they got the food first ( same lamb skewers), when the food arrived my table, the temperature is just warm, not hot no more. The taste is bad when u start to eat and they are getting more cold. Last time I went here with my friends one month ago, the taste is very great and the skewers are hot! Not sure they changed the cooker or meat. Tastes wired this time.

Nestled in the corner of a shopping plaza in Monterey Park, Xinjiang BBQ is an unassuming restaurant that draws quite a crowd. We had to put our name on the Yelp waiting list, and there was almost always a line. Inside, the restaurant features a 360-degree video display of live scenes from Xinjiang, China. While the constantly moving walls made me a bit dizzy, it added an authentic touch to the ambiance. The food was the highlight of our visit. We ordered mutton and beef skewers, as well as octopus, and they were all delicious, reminiscent of the flavors we experienced in China. Although traveling to Xinjiang isn’t easy for us as foreigners, we had the chance to sample Xinjiang cuisine in Beijing, which is why we were excited to see fried shredded potato on the menu here. They were crispy and tasty, just as we remembered. As an older couple, we felt a bit out of place among the younger crowd, but the food made it worth it. Xinjiang BBQ is definitely a spot for young people, but anyone who appreciates good food will enjoy it.

Open really late in night for dinning in. There are projections around the wall. The BBQ items are all delicious including lamb and beef kabobs, pork belly, chicken wings grizzles and gristle, Enoki mushrooms with bacon and Fish tofu. Beef tongue is said to be overcooked. Sides like chives are nice. Steamed Buns could choose salt/sweet/original while bread has the only one choice of sweet with sugar covering... Seems to be a little bit strange. Remember that the store would be closed earlier around 0am at Sunday. Pay attention to the operating time and last call minute.

Amazing hidden gem! A must place to try delicious lamb skewers with variety of spice options. They used to have seatings outside on the parking lot during Covid but now we can enjoy the food comfortably indoor. Lamb skewers are perfectly cooked in the kitchen and arrives perfectly juicy inside and crispy outside. We usually start with cucumber with garlic as an appetizer, and sweet and sour fries for the kids. Eggplant is also a great dish for vegetarian friends. Today we tried Spicy crawfish and it was tasty - crawfish was fresh and even the soup was delicious. Last but not the least, their lamb dough drop soup is very hearty and fulfilling, definitely a good choice for a chilly day

Good place for Chinese BBQ skewers and beer. Price is decent and not super cheap....average price is about $5 for a four piece dish. In my opinion the biggest flaw with this place is that it has no AC!!! So talk about gettin' them meat sweats during them hot and humid summer days here in Southern Cali! Overall the experience was pleasant and I will go back if I ever have some late night craving for meat on a stick! They close super late at 2am so it's a cool spot to eat, drink and chill in the SGV.
