The Cocktail Heatmap: The Best Places to Drink in Denver This Summer | Eater Denver

"At this splashy Mexican sensation in Uptown, the bar’s commitment to showcasing Mexican ingredients goes far beyond agave spirits: Corn whiskey, rum, and even gin come from south of the border, while the likes of prickly pear, chamoy, poblano chiles, and cilantro bring their kicked up flavors to the mix." - Eater Staff

Denver’s Best Tacos | Eater Denver

"You get what you pay for. Yes, this upscale hot spot’s tacos are expensive by the standards of the genre ($13 apiece), but they’re also more like mini-entrees on house-nixtamalized, handmade edible plates than anything, graced with such gourmet stuff as duck carnitas in mole with sweet potato crema, kanpachi al pastor with charred pineapple and onion-ash crema, and duck fat–cured ribeye with fried potatoes and salsa verde. Besides, those prices are slashed in half at happy hour, when the toppings are more traditional (barbacoa de lengua, chicken tinga) but no less lovingly prepared." - Ruth Tobias

The Best Mexican Food in Denver | Eater Denver

"From chefs Erasmo Casiano of Lucina and Rene Gonzalez Mendez comes this suave date-night candidate in Uptown, where the deep thought and care that go into the seasonal menu — starting with an in-house nixtamalization program — are on display in dish after gorgeously presented dish. Masa-based items like tongue barbacoa-topped sopes, beef piccadillo-stuffed molotes, and tacos featuring duck carnitas or kanpachi al pastor on handmade tortillas are the natural stars of the show, supported by an intriguing cast of cocktails like the gin-based Martini Sucia with cilantro-infused vermouth and green onion shrub." - Ruth Tobias

The Hottest Restaurants in Denver Right Now, Fall 2024

"From the team behind Park Hill’s much-loved Lucina Eatery and Bar comes this Uptown homage to the foodways of Mexico City, which has only been open for a couple of months but has already received recognition from Bon Appétit for its soulful, sophisticated approach to dishes like broiled oysters with charred jalapeño butter and maiz powder; sopes topped with barbacoa de lengua, salsa verde, and crema; and black ash–braised lamb shank with black beans and radish-herb salad. The bar follows suit with the likes of tomatillo margaritas and Old Fashioneds featuring Mexican corn whiskey." - Ruth Tobias, Eater Staff

I’ve visited Xiquita a few times at this point and each time is delightful. The staff is welcoming and doesn’t bat an eye at my curiosities - happily answering any questions or explaining the history of a dish. Most recently we visited for a celebration, and we were spoiled with little, unexpected, tasty gifts; world class hospitality here. The food always comes out quick and often delivered by one of the chefs. Their ability to tell a story with each dish is inspiring, and the execution is outstanding. There is this perfect mix of familiarity, surprise, and the absolute perfect amount of spice that keeps me coming back. If you’re reading this, don’t hesitate. Go now, belly up to the bar, and they’ll take care of the rest.

I visited Xiquita Restaurante y Bar yesterday and the experience was fantastic from start to finish. The food was absolutely delicious full of authentic Mexican flavors and clearly made with care and passion. Everything tasted fresh, bold, and true to its roots. The owner is incredibly hands on and it really shows. You can tell he takes pride in every detail, from the kitchen to the overall experience. He treated us so well and made us feel truly welcomed. The vibe is amazing from the tea lights to the plants.. everything it’s very aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Also the staff was just as great. They are overall friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout our visit. If you’re looking for authentic Mexican food, amazing flavors, and genuine people. Xiquita’s is the rite place for you. We will definitely be back.

Tortillas were fantastic—fresh, warm, and full of flavor served with a charcoal butter that was a unique, but tasty addition. The cochinita pibil was another standout, tender and delicious. A few of the other dishes didn’t quite hit the same level, but overall the meal was enjoyable and the highlights were truly memorable

Amazing and unique menu. Our bartender, Issac, was super knowledgeable and walked us through every flavor on each plate, including the order in which to enjoy each plate. The tuna ceviche was packed with spice, but cut with this amazing coconut milk sauce. So different than your standard ceviche. I’ll be dreaming about this one. What a great experience. Thank you!

Absolutely incredible food, far from your traditional Mexican. The approach to ingredients and staying true to ancestral, traditional ingredients meant a unique menu that has flavors you just don't see anywhere else. Service was amazing and this place deserves the accolades they are receiving.

I recommend this place to anyone reading this review, here why. The service was amongst the best with everyone being very attentive and knowing the menu well. My favorite was the ceviche with the coconut salsa paired with it. The Carne Asada was also a really great dish. The salsa that was paired with a great cut of NY Strip was a good combination. We also got the Huarache and the Cochinita Pibil highly recommended. Great drinks and atmosphere. Thank you to all the staff and thank you to Erasmo for the hospitality. Will be back.

Hands down the most memorable meal I’ve had in Denver! Chef Erasmo and team are so talented & welcoming. You can tell every dish on the menu was made with love, has a story behind it, and is presented in the most beautiful way. We followed our servers recommendations and loved everything! The potato croquette was INCREDIBLE and a must get. The happy hour poblano taco was insaneeee and one of my faves & my friend loved the duck fat taco. Love how much corn flavor comes through in all the dishes. If you are looking for something authentic and unique the mole tamale was great- kinda like an earthy cornbread? The other dish we got and loved was the beet appetizer. Daiquiri was yummy too!!

This was by far the best meal I had in Denver. Plates are meant to be shared but my partner got delayed so I went alone. Two dishes was plenty of food plus a dessert. This place came recommended to me by a foodie. I had the duck taco and ceviche. Both were delicious. I tried 3 different cocktails I wasn’t the biggest fan of but the food was delicious. The staff were kind, attentive and good looking. :) I would highly recommend this place. Definitely need a reservation on the weekend.
