Xiringuito Escribà - Gastro Obscura

"In Spain, going to the beach is as much about eating as it is about sunbathing. As such, most beaches have chiringuitos, semi-open-air beachside bar-restaurants specializing in seafood dishes. Barcelona is no exception to this, and with several sandy beaches within the city limits, the city is home to several xiringuitos, as they’re known in Catalan. Head north from the portside La Barceloneta neighborhood, and you’ll encounter a string of sandy urban beaches. Platja del Bogatell, one such strip, is backed by Xiringuito Escribà, arguably the city’s most famous beachside restaurant. It opened in 1992, and has a strong reputation for its rice-based dishes. Although paella and other Spanish rice dishes are largely associated with Valencia, further south, Catalonia has its own variants, some of which are served at Escribà. Arroz negro is rice dyed black with cuttlefish ink and studded with chunks of cuttlefish, while Catalan-style paella is served with a mix of seafood and meat known as mar i muntanya. And there’s also fideuà, a paella-like dish made from thin noodles, served with a tiny mortar of aioli. In all these cases, the centerpiece carbs are prepared and served in paella pans, reduced until just short of crispy, with rich, concentrated, salty flavors. Although Escribà is semi-open-air—with the flies to prove this—the dining room retains a rich aroma of reducing seafood broth, and the station where workers prepare as many as eight paella pans is fun to watch. If rice isn’t your thing, you could try the Iberian Ham Airbag, a massive puffed bread topped with slices of cured ham, and the sangría here is said to be better than most. Know Before You Go Although more than 30 years old, Xiringuito Escribà remains popular; book in advance." - Austin Bush

"The paella is nice, but what’s great about this “chiringuito” is that it’s right on the beach so it comes with spectacular views. On a sunny day (and with some great company), it's a quintessentially Barcelona experience. Seats fill up quickly so call ahead."

Fideuà Is Barcelona’s Best Seafood Dish - Eater

"For over a century, the Escribà name has been synonymous with fine pastries. In 1992, a member of this distinguished epicurean family opened a xiringuito, or seasonal beachside bar, near the Olympic Village to offer something wholly different: authentic paella and fideuà." - Jeff Koehler

Along the sea northeast of the center, a number of fish restaurants specialize in paella, a Valencia specialty. I like Xiringuito Escribà on a Sunday when the place is absolutely slammed with groups of friends and family. Order a paella or fideuà cooked with seafood.

Amazing views and I'm so glad my first experience of authentic paella in Spain was incredible. The staff was excellent. Even when there was a small over site in my order once the staff recognized it they made sure that we were more than taken care of. I highly recommend this place.

Google
What a fantastic restaurant and atmosphere. Just by the beach, a fireplace inside, open kitchen, great food! One of the best paellas I've had! We tried different one but the seafood is the best. Great wine also and attentive service! Will definitely return when in Barcelona next. Don't miss!

Google
A great place to enjoy a meal near the beach and looking at the sea. We were lucky enough to be seated near the entrance. Even though the prices are quite high, the food is worth it. The paellas were truly tasty and had the classic crunchy rice on the bottom and borders. We wouldn’t order the black fideua again, they were good but not as flavorful as the paellas, but both were full of fresh fish. We enjoyed the drinks too, both red wine sangria and white one were not too alcoholic and carried aromatic and spiced flavors. The service was excellent!

The atmosphere is incredibly relaxed, offering a direct view of the beach. The food is delicious, with the seafood paella being particularly outstanding. The staff is lovely and attentive. I highly recommend this place.

Google
Efficient service and amazing food. The guacamole was a great starter and the paella was massive and delicious. Really friendly service! We were recommended this restaurant a few months ago as one of two in the city that do great paella.

🍽️ Overall, it was just okay as I’ve had paella elsewhere that impressed me more, but the staff here were absolutely lovely and gave wonderful service. ✨

Google
The location was very nice, right across from the beach and we were lucky enough to get a table with a beautiful view. I recommend getting a reservation. The staff was very friendly. My only complain is about the food, i felt it was overly salty which sadly took the attention away from the other flavors.

Google
People say that this is one of the best paellas in Barcelona. It may be, we did not have it anywhere else. It was very tasty and it was cooked on the spot. It takes around maybe 20 mins to be ready. It is bit pricey but worth to try.

Yelp

Yelp
Food (4/5): We got the mixed paella and an octopus salad with crackers. Both were solid but the paella was lacking a bit of flavor and not as good as expected considering the other reviews. Service (4/5): No issues with the service. They were helpful. They gave us a sand timer for the Paella which was interesting although after our appetizer finished they took the timer which had run out and we still waited several minutes after. Ambiance (5/5): Awesome views of the beach and conveniently located. Restaurant had tons of seating in an outdoor setting.

Yelp
Came here for dinner while visiting Barcelona on a suggestion from friends that live nearby... What a great experience! Reservations ARE a must. While we were there, we saw numerous people without any being turned away. Our paella was amazing...seafood tasted fresh and the socarrat was perfect. Friendly and helpful employees, great food and reasonable prices.

Yelp
best paella in Barcelona with a great ambiance outside and right near the beach. Really fair prices and friendly staff. They give you a timer that shows how long you'll paella will be. Sangria was amazing and so was the bread with tomato spread. Definitely would recommend this restaurant when you're in Barcelona

Yelp
Visiting Barcelona for the first time, was looking for paella and this was recommended to me and truly enjoyed the food and location on the beach. Luckily we could walk-in without reservations as there were a couple tables left. The open kitchen to watch the delicious paella being made was a treat. The staff were friendly and helpful. Ordered Sangria and appetizers in addition to the paella pan and definitely had a satisfied full belly. Can't wait to come back again!

Yelp
Came here during our vacation in Barcelona, as this was recommended by one of the locals for a good place to eat paella. We did not have any reservations however the staff was very friendly and was able to accommodate us right away. The restaurant was beautiful and right along Barceloneta with great views of the beach. Our waiter was very friendly and the service overall was great. We got their seafood paella with black rice. Normally I am not a fan of black rice Paella but it was very flavorful and had a good amount of seafood. The portion was also very generous. We were hoping to try the ceviche, unfortunately they were sold out for the day, so we opted for the tuna tartare, which went very well with the bread it came with. When it came for dessert they brought out a huge platter of different options for us to look at. Even though we were way too full for dessert, they all looked amazing so we decided to try the lemon cake with the ice cream. That was the highlight of the restaurant and was easily our favorite thing we tried. If you are visiting Barcelona and want to try a nice restaurant with good staff and great views, would highly recommend this place! If I'm ever in Barcelona again, will definitely come back.

Yelp
My taxi driver from the airport to my hotel in Barcelona has the same name as me and so we bonded immediately. I usually rely on the locals of any place for my food recommendations and when I asked him for the best paella in Barcelona, without hesitation he recommend it here. After a city tour of the city, I began getting hungry and so started my journey to get here. 1.5-mile walk later and I am here. My enthusiasm was cut in half when the waiter informed me that I needed reservations and if I returned in two hours I would get a table. I was pleased with her that I was only here for a short time and Adrian told me I would be given the best care the food was a must-have. She checked with the manager, and within a minute I was ushered to a table. Yes, I am dining alone. It is a very casual family atmosphere. The patrons here seem to be regulars and there are a few large groups celebrating birthdays and special occasions. I lucked out on getting a table. The waiter is friendly and suggests a local beer which I am eager to try. She comes back and explains the menu to me. Go big or go home so let the feasting begin. I chose the sampler appetizer which comes with four small dishes. Anchovies, fried seafood, seafood potato salad, and mussels. I also order a side of grilled shrimp. To my dismay, they are out of lobster so I won't be getting lobster paella today. As an alternative, I chose the seafood paella. The waiter puts an hourglass on the table and said the main course will be ready before the sand finishes at thirty minutes. Nice touch. The beer is mild, cold, and crisp. I remind myself to not down it all in one gulp. The appetizer arrives and I try the anchovies first. It's dipped in fresh olive oil and the toasted bread is a perfect compliment. After the first bite, I am doing a poor job of hiding my excitement. I am smiling from ear to ear. To not appear like a weirdo I pull out my phone pretending I am laughing at something on the screen. You guys know it's a lie but who cares. Lol. The seafood salad is right and creamy. Reminds me of a traditional potato salad but with strips only of seafood. I think it's clams. It's good. The fried seafood is fresh and succulent. My second favorite appetizer. The mussels were bland but edible. The first shrimp was seasoned lightly and fresh. It came with the head and I ate that too. It was worth it. Overall the appetizers were great. I would order again. Almost true to her word a couple of minutes after the hourglass finished my paella arrived. I think I overdid it because there is hardly any more space for food but that won't be a problem. I must soldier on. After the first bite, I am a little disappointed. It tastes bland and it's a bite watery. I look at the menu again. This one has a mushroom base. I remind myself that paella in the United States compared to home of Paella in Spain will taste different and with food I need to have an open mind. I kept this dialogue in my mind so I would not be seen as crazy for talking to myself out loud. I had another sip of my beer and gave it another shot. This interesting thing happened. With each bite, the flavor became more present, and so on and I thoroughly enjoying my meal. I have a sigh of relief and relaxed. This meal didn't cost me more than sixty euros. The waiters came over a few times to check on my during my dinning experience. I highly recommend and would return.

Yelp
We made lunch reservations for our family here and were not impressed, even though it ended up being our most expensive meal of the trip. Nothing special about the paella, which was less tasty than a risotto I could get anywhere else. At the end of our meal, despite trying to ask numerous times, we waited nearly 20 minutes to get the bill so we could pay and be on our way for more tourism. Not being rushed to pay the bill is fine if you are enjoying staying, but we wanted to move on. Only two bathrooms for everyone in a large restaurant. Nice location right on the beach though.

Yelp
Awesome food, great views of the action on the boardwalk and the waitress staff were very friendly and attentive. Highly recommended and make sure you book a reservation!

Yelp
This place was recommended by someone at the hotel we were staying at during our stay in Barcelona. It's further out by the water so it's a bit of a drive but worth it. You do need reservations, and we easily made one the day before. The staff was very nice and accommodating. They spoke English well, and there was an English menu. The restaurant was clean and casual. Beautiful view of the beach right up front! It was also warm inside despite being in a covered patio. As for the food, the paella was definitely delicious. It was tasty and serving size was huge. We ordered the valenciana with chicken. I would've loved to try the others but there were only two of us! Also, important to note, they will only cook you one type of paella per table as they only have 10 burners at a time! They also had plenty of drinks to choose from! Got their wine they recommended with the paella. Overall, great experience, delicious paella!!

Marty J.

Yelp
Paella was so so. Too salty, no real flavor. Bones in the chicken, gristle in the meat. Really? Our waiter was attentive and recommended house wine over sangria. Probably should have had the sangria but house wine was fine. It was night time in March and later (9pm) so didn't expect to see the water though it is right on the beach.

Yelp
We wanted Paella and was told this was the best in Barcelona! Location is on the beach, but it was dark and we were unable to enjoy the sea views. I loved being able to watch the paella prep in the open kitchen We started with the Pico Pico apps which gave us tasty bites of different flavors. Onto the Squid Ink paella. Plan on a Crest White Strip afterwards as our teeth, lips and napkins were black after the delicious rice. Service was very accommodating and tolerant of our lack of Spanish when ordering. Sangria was fantastic too!

Yelp
This was a highly recommended stop for us in Barcelona. Located right on the walk beachside sits this amazing restaurant. This place is famous for their paella. Honestly pick any that you would like, they all looked and smelled amazing. My family and I went for the surf and turf paella. It's have chicken, pork ribs, sausage meatballs, shrimp, and mussels. The rice stuck to the bottom and created those amazing crispy bits. This is the best paella I've ever eaten. Delicious and highly recommend. Also, if you do have room for dessert. Get the banana crème brûlée dessert. I usually don't like getting banana desserts because the fruit always overpowers the dish, but it's the complete opposite here. The crunchy top of the burnt sugar, the sweet and creamy filling with banana pieces, and the light texture of the dish combined for ultimate goodness.
google avatar

Dave G.

Yelp
This was the best Paella we had in Barcelona. There's a lot of subpar Paella floating around and Barcelona isn't even the best city to find the good stuff, so it's easy to get suckered, but that won't happen here. We loved our meals!
google avatar

Yelp
This restaurant is so famous for a paella, they did not disappoint us, the paella with squid ink was excellent, I highly recommend this place.

Yelp
Paella overlooking the Mediterranean anybody? Recommended by a local, this is THE place to go for paella, seafood, Spanish & Catalan dishes, and desserts * Escribà Special Fish Fideuà - This house special dish, served w/ rice or pasta noodles, is a must have. It is flavor-packed w/ herbs and seafood, making you go in for endless bites.. * Black Rice w/ Fish, Prawn, Cuttlefish, Clams - Sadly, this wasn't a hit for us Though if you like a much more salty taste, this dish is for you. Most importantly, you must save room for the end because just look at the dessert platter! We wholeheartedly recommend the Chocolate Cake Drizzled w/ MORE Chocolate . Other than that, just pick any and it will not disappoint!

Yelp
Best ceviche and paella we've had in Barcelona. Service was excellent. Great location on the beach about 15 minutes drive from Placa de Catalunya.

Yelp
My Last night in Barcelona. This was Recommended by a coworker. He Mentioned the food but not the location. Surprised by the seaside setting after 5 days of urban living. That's also the beauty of Barcelona. Seated on an outside window facing the surf and we Ordered the house wine. Nice simple crisp white and settled in for my first true Paella dinner. A Timer was placed on my table to manage expectations. Nice adder. Bread and olives were a nice snack as we enjoyed the views and company. Then this very large pan of rice and chicken and artichokes and butter beans arrived and the elbows were flying. We tore that pan up! It was delicious and filling but I didn't walk away wondering how I would work off those carbs. Simple cooking does that. A Small dessert finish the night and off we went to stare at the rising moon! Enjoy the experience.

Yelp
Skip Xiringuito. Was very disappointed with the paellas, and prices here were marked up due to the location. They get super busy, but luckily they let us order two single portions of rices. Service was spotty - couldn't find a server when we needed one. Stopped in on a weekday night around 9 - we were seated immediately, but right near the kitchen. No real views of the beach, no breeze, nothing. It was insanely hot and we couldn't wait to leave. Not to mention it was hard to get water refills or more drinks since the server basically took our order and disappeared for 30 minutes. Favorite dish of the night - gazpacho. But 8 euro for it seemed a bit pricey. As did 5 euro for pan con tomate, which we didn't particularly enjoy here. The paellas were overly salty with little socarrat. Flavors were ok, but I had trouble with the house one (very seafood forward - reminded me a lot of fermented shrimp paste). I make a better paella at home, so yeah it was a big disappointment to have our only paella experience in Barcelona be such a mediocre one.
google avatar

Melofel O.

Yelp
We were here in 2019, but I enjoyed the food here. I had my first paella here. We ordered a seafood and a chicken and green bean paella. Both were very delicious as the rice absorbed all of the flavors from its components. The rice was not underdone, and the meats weren't overcooked. I would've liked to have some of the sacarrat (crispy/toasted rice) from the bottom of the pan that I keep hearing about, but neither of the paellas had any. Maybe that's not common in Barcelona?? The service was friendly and efficient even for a broken-Spanish speaking tourist like myself. The location of this restaurant is perfect, too. It's right by the water, so you can walk-off those calories afterwards. Overall, this was a good, first paella experience for me.

Dianna Y.

Yelp
Great place to have paella on the beach. Service is friendly and helpful. Paella is very good. We had a great meal.

Yelp
Great Cebiche and Fideuá Negra, excellent service. Make reservation for a front table.

Yelp
Great seaside experience!, the food and service were great, tried the seafood sampler appetizer and a paella.

Yelp
My husband and I stumbled upon this place while visiting Bogatell beach. We were hungry and hadn't eaten any breakfast and saw that there was a line to this place before it even opened. We found out shortly that you need a reservation to eat here, the host was kind enough to find us a table anyway. We greatly appreciated that. Everything we ordered from the tapas, ceviche, and drinks...just incredibly delicious...the seafood was just beyond amazing. Definitely a must dine for anyone visiting Barcelona.
google avatar

Nga N.

Yelp
Quite disgusting. This place was recommended to me, and since it's by the beach, I thought it would be perfect. The wait was 2 hours long. Good thing the view at the beach was beautiful and the weather was perfect. We didn't mind too much. Finally, they called us in for a table. Yah!! It was a long anticipation for my first real paella in Spain. We ordered the special paella for 3 which was cooked in fish broth. I don't know if it's common that the rice is supposed to be firm, but it was. Tasted like it was undercooked. The seafood was awful, not fresh at all. Overall, the flavor was also lacking. But I do love the white sangria here. It was so refreshing. This was also the only place in Spain I saw white sangria so I don't know how authentic it is, but you should definitely try it. Service wasn't great either but it's Barcelona. Bad service everywhere. Not sure what the hype is or why it's so busy. Maybe it's because of their perfect location at the beach.
google avatar

D S.

Yelp
Picturesque restaurant, right by the waterfront and on the boardwalk. Must try their paella. Everything else on the menu is alright, but paella is by far the star of the show. Several different types you can try. Make reservations in advance otherwise you'll have to wait a while!
google avatar

Lila L.

Yelp
We came here on a Saturday rainy night with no reservation around 8pm and it was pretty empty. The waitress taking my order was rude as I was telling her my order or eyes where wandering and she wasn't even looking at me so I had to repeat my order and question again for her. So when our pitcher of cava sangria was brought out it was missing the mint. Gurrrl should've listened!! But I will add other waiters were attentive and kept checking up on us which we appreciated. We ordered the sea and mountain paella and Escribà special fish paella. The presentation made the portion seem huge but in reality the rice layer is pretty thin so it wasn't too bad. In terms of flavor, my friend said her Escribà special fish paella was really salty while my sea and mountain could've used some more flavor. Overall for our first paella experience in Spain, it was a little disappointing since we walked pretty far for this.

Yelp
Was in Barcelona for a conference in this place is recommended to me by a local. No disappointment here. Settings on the beach. If you're lucky, you can get a table looks to Beach. We Had No Reservations and we're seated in an impromptu table in the back. Highly recommend reservations for this place. In fact, we were initially turned away until my Spanish-speaking friend joined us and was able to pull some strings. I believe she said something to the effect that Americans eat fast and we will not be here long. Either way it works. Once you order, they bring a hourglass that they set by your table. When the timer is up, your food arrives. It is like clockwork. If I was nothing short of awesome. The rice was very flavorful and the seafood fresh. E-cloth this along with a bottle of wine and went back to the conference very satisfied. This place is worth a lunch stop.
google avatar

Rafi C.

Yelp
Good salad with tuna belly was super fresh and beautifully presented but under dressed. Green vegetable paella was vivid green and well done but lacked a meaty or unami element to balance out the flavors. Nice beach side setting and kept warm next to fire place. Service a bit rushed but attentive. Dessert options were boring so passed but had vegan and glutenfree ones. Full bar.
google avatar

Dina O.

Yelp
This place was a pleasant surprise. My daughter and I were walking to the beach and we were hungry, it was around 11:30AM and we asked for a table and got one. We didn't know how lucky we had it when everyone after us kept being turned down because they didn't have reservations and they were taking reservations 2-3 days in advance. We had amazing appetizers and salads. Only then we noticed that everyone was ordering the paella. There will definitely be a next time if I come to Barcelona and I will have the paella for sure. They pots coming to the table looked abundant and appetizing. Their sangria was also very good.

Yelp
Z: this restaurant was really nice. The atmosphere matched the relaxed beach vibe, it's literally on beach. But don't be fooled, you need a reservation before arriving. (Easy to do with a phone call/ don't bother with reservation apps.) service was just fine, solicitous and helpful, but busy. It may look not crowded even when full bc of the ambience and the paella takes a while to cook, worth it though. Some reviewed as high prices, but for excellent food and being New Yorkers, the prices were just fine. D: My counterpart took care of the reservations and business end of this one. We walked from the Rambla... take a cab (it was enjoyable but a hike). The food was amazing. I watched as the chef made our paella (we got the special Escribà). The sangrias (Cava and white) were large and wonderful. Now, the paella comes in a traditional paella pan full of black rice, mussels and clams. The prawns and langoustine (it's like a little lobster) will be staring at you when they arrive to your table so you may want to take the meat out of them for the missus if she's squeamish (mine isn't). The wait for the paella wasn't bad when you're in good company. Dessert...! Whoa! The olive rosemary lemon cake thing with lemon sorbet... knocked my socks off. I'm almost happy they're not in NY, it would lead to addiction. Loved this place.
google avatar

Yelp
You can get great food in most places in Barcelona, but to get an individually cooked paella that is perfect every time while watching the Bae chef give it the love... that is what this place is about! Great smiles and service...awesome appetizers and of course the view and breeze of the med...what else is there...enjoy!
google avatar

John L.

Yelp
Atmosphere cannot be beaten. Had seafood paella - overheard someone referring to it as the essence of the ocean. I will not try to top that - perfect description. I realize this is in Barcelona, not Valencia, home of the paella, but damm, it is fabulous!
google avatar

Steph L.

Yelp
I had a lovely dinner here! We made a reservation, which got us seated quickly. I asked them if we can sit next to the edge so we an get a good view of the ocean while eating and they allowed us! The table cloth was blue/white which, for some reason, made me feel really happy & calm...ALSO! The staff was really friendly~I was a bit cold cause it got chilly at night, so they gave me a blankie to keep myself warm...like an actual blankie. It was the cutest. Food: White Wine Sangria Pretty perfect for two people~ really refreshing Xiringuito Fried Potatoes in Spicy Tomato Sauce The sauce was pretty strong but I liked it a lot! Sea Bass Ceviche The dish had just the right amount of acidity, but the fish was just a tad bit chewy. Valencian-Style Paella It's HUGE. Like literally, needed a full table's space. The chicken was a bit dry, but the rabbit was nicely cooked! The paella also had socarrat, which made me really happy.

Yelp
While in Barcelona , we discovered this place and saw the great reviews on the Paella. Located along the water with beautiful view of the beach . Perfect location for sunset as most of the seating faces the water . We came in the summer time and made a reservation for dinner time since we knew it would fill up fast. Service was professional and friendly. We ordered the Paella which came in a huge steaming pan that fed the both of us. Very tasty and filling. Enjoyed eating and people watching as there is a busy walking / biking path in between the restaurant and the beach. When the sun went down, it got a little breezy. Overall great experience and everything was good. Pricing was a bit high in my honest opinion but still had a fun time. I would try a different place next time to compare.
google avatar

Lauren L.

Yelp
We came here for lunch on the second day of our honeymoon in Barcelona. I read about this place on Goop so I was dying to try their food. The issue was I'd had paella the night before at Arume, the best dining experience on our whole trip. This could have been paella overkill. Nope. Sitting beachfront and eating amazing seafood and paella was delicious, even two days in a row. The view is just as good thenfood here.
google avatar

Teddie B.

Yelp
Best Paella!!! I carefully waited to try an authentic paella to get a true Catalan experience, and it was worth the wait. The presentation was mouth watering. Cooked in lobster broth and garnished with plenty of fresh seafood and mushrooms over rice. I was over the moon. I highly recommend Xiringuito Escribà. You won't be disappointed. PS - you should probably make a reservation. Read previous reviews, and the waiting time can get up to 2 hours. I went on a Thursday night with a friend, and we were seated right away (8:30 pm reservation). Catalans dine around 10 pm, so 8:30 pm is still quite early for the locals.

Yelp
Come here for the ambiance and the experience, but not for the paella. My friends and I came here around 9PM on a weekday and the restaurant was near empty (perhaps because it was a holiday). The restaurant is by the ocean, so I'm sure it would be beautiful in the summertime. Unfortunately, I was only around in December. The inside is beautiful and the service is great. There are inside heaters and dim lights that make the place feel summery even in the wintertime. The sangria, which was recommended to us, was also delicious- it actually tasted a bit like a mimosa. We ordered 3 paellas (for 1 person each). Although the 1 person order looks HUGE, the paellas are very thin. The restaurant recommends one order per person, which I believe holds true. We tried the croquette roulette, which was actually a lot of fun! One of the croquettes out of 6 is SPICY, while the others are normal. The croquettes were very delicious. When it came to the paellas, i can't remember exactly what we ordered, but we did get a black noodle dish. All three of the paellas were EXTREMELY salty, and don't really do paellas justice if that's what you're looking to eat in Barcelona. Overall, the atmosphere and the service of the restaurant deserves more than a 5/5. However, the paellas simply did not live up to their hype.

Yelp
The location and vibe of the place is great. The white wine sangria is the best I have tried in Spain and the fried calamari is excellent. Just a shame the paella was dry and too salty. The rice was too chewy and too salty. The service from the waiters was great and they were very helpful. But since I came here to experience good paella unfortunately it was very disappointing.

Yelp
Honestly wish I hadn't bothered coming to this place, from the moment we arrived at the restaurant we were made to feel unwelcome, the staff completely ruined our night. We arrived slightly early so we patiently waited to be seated however, we were then ignored for the rest of the evening. We had to ask for menus, ask to order, ask for the bread that never showed up, I understand that they were incredibly busy but the staff were just rude. The girl we asked to take our order literally rolled her eyes at us.... if we aren't your table, go and get the waiter that is. I worked as a waitress for a long time and I understand that it can be very stressful but that doesn't not warrant the behaviour I experienced. We then waited over an hour for our paella, I was tempted to get up and leave but I was starving so stayed. The paella was good, tasted nice but certainly wasn't worth the wait. It didn't have half the things the menu said it would have in it, the 'ribs' were inedible and there were only 2 bits of chicken. The only time they paid attention was when we got up to leave because, again they'd been ignoring us, no offer of a dessert menu, and if we had wanted to ask for one who knows who we could have got one from because they were ignoring us again. I have never left a restaurant so upset and angry at the experience, we were patient and polite but when the staff are that rude, ignorant and insolent then how are you supposed to enjoy your evening? I don't really understand why they were so rude to us, yes we don't speak Spanish but neither did either of the tables to each side of us. Honestly do not bother with this place unless you like being served but terrible waiting staff.

Yelp
Friendly host and great service! Sea and Mountain Paella was the order of choice since I love seafood and my husband loves meat. It is to die for!! Love the individual flavors incorporated from all the types of ingredients; keeps me wanting more.

Yelp
Go! After a day on the beach, we stopped for late lunch and a bottle of wine-both were terrific. The seating has a lovely view of the beach. We tried the paella and ate nearly every bite it was so good.

Yelp
Known for one of the best paella restaurants in Spain. Awarded 1st place in several local competitions. Fantastic cod fitters - light - not saturated in grease. Fresh & full flavor. Fresh squid ink paella aka black rice or paella negra - not frozen. Delicious huge prawns, fresh mussels & rosemary. For dessert lemon cake & lemon sorbet. Light and not overly sweet. Red sangria = smooth. Wonderful & friendly staff. Blankets available to keep patrons warm on a brisk evening while watching sun set from your table. American Express accepted. Restaurant will call taxi for you - no uber.

Yelp
I find strolling musicians that play outside the restaurant then basically beg for tips when they're done , annoying. I love musicians just dislike the begging and attitude. With plenty of empty table we were asked if we had a reservation and it was almost a sin we didn't. The Paella rice was delicious, not a fan of bone-full chicken but the chicken after I whittled it off the bone was delicious. Light on the things I liked (sausage ) but everything else was good. The waiter was fine and even put a sand timer on the table and said the Paella would be out before it expired.

Yelp
I have no idea why people are leaving poor reviews for this place. Well, I do know. Most of them are not used to traditional Paella. They're used to the schlop of shitty over cooked rice pilaf from a container that you put in the microwave. That's why they can't appreciate a perfect Soccorat, or the al dente freshness of Bomba rice. This place seriously knows how to make Paella. I don't know if it's the best in Barcelona, because I don't live there and so I haven't had sufficient time to proclaim that. BUT it is by far the most authentic Paella I've ever encountered. They do an excellent job-- it is 100% worth every penny. JUST GO!!! But make a reservation-- we didn't our first attempt and they were booked. :)

Yelp
Amazing experience at this place. If you want a "local" spot close to the beach, this is it! The Paella was superb and their local white wine paired beautifully. A most go!

Yelp
The fried calamari and the quinoa salad with shrimp was amazing. My friends had the paella and loved it. Oh yeah, the dessert was quite delicious as well. I recommend this restaurant.

Yelp
My friend and I walked 20 minutes to get here. It was totally worth it! We went about an hour before closing. Though we couldn't see the sea anymore (cuz of darkness), the atmosphere was really nice. The lights were really dim though. Created a cosy vibe. Now onto the main portion of the review: the paella. It was very very impressive. My friend and I ordered one each. I got the seafood and meat one and it was so delicious. The paella was presented on a huge black cast iron pan that seems thematic for the iconic paella dish. My friend was also super impressed! I would HIGHLY recommend this establishment. They also called a cab for us.

Yelp
Lunch with a view! Had some great seafood paella and sangria here. Open air seating right on the ocean
