7 Haunted Philly Restaurants & Bars

"We all know the horror movie survival strategies: Don’t split up, don’t investigate random noises, and never fall while being chased through the woods. Add steering clear of historic hotels to the list. On July 24, 1976, thousands of American Legion members stayed at Center City’s Bellevue Hotel at The Hyatt, resulting in mass illness and many deaths (the mysterious illness was later named Legionnaires disease). Guests at the hotel and restaurant have reported endless phantom encounters, including major temperature drops and even something grabbing at their toes. It’s a hard no from us, but if you’re feeling adventurous, take in a great view, sip on a nicely blended Al Capone (their version of an Old Fashioned), and eat a juicy burger with aged cheddar.  " - candis mclean

XIX Nineteen - Review - Center City - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"XIX Nineteen is a New American restaurant in The Bellevue at the Hyatt Hotel that feels like your grandmother's fancy dining room—where you're not supposed to touch a thing. The Center City rooftop spot has a long sleek bar, chandeliers, and an atmosphere that's more formal than lively. This makes it a great place to catch up with your parents for brunch or talk IPO strategies with your boss at the lunch that they're paying for. Go for an order of the crispy calamari fritti, a burger with aged cheddar, and sip on a nicely blended Al Capone (their version of an old fashioned)." - Candis R. McLean

Great views, cool atmosphere, lackluster drink menu. We went to the bar on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was closed. The beer selection is limited, but one interesting choice from Yards Brewing:French Toast. It was quite good. My wife has two cocktails that were not good, in her opinion. Service was prompt and we were frequent checked up on. Go for the views.

This is a true dining experience. The decor and atmosphere is great. You get a trendy NYC vibe in their bar lounge and a soft, comfortable and inviting feeling in their dining area (additional dining area as well). Private rooms for parties. Staff is always super nice, well dressed and professional. Food was good. Fish items needed more flavor. Drinks are amazing. Crab cakes, Oysters and tuna tar tar was great. Dessert excellent. $200+ for drinks and three course meal for 2 people.

Fabulous restaurant. The decor, the balconies, the view, all amazing. Due to inclement weather we couldnt sit at the balcony however, the pearl room was just as nice. The food, delicious! Our waiter was very patient and helpful. The drinks were good and the bread and butter as well. I had the short rib with a side of French fries and berry lemonade. My date had the salmon and green beans with a long island. Needless to say, we cleaned our plates! We'll be back soon.

I love the decor and the menu. I had my 30th birthday party in the private dining room here and returned for a romantic dinner recently. I had a reservation requesting a window seat. Upon arriving I was told that I could be sent immediately or wait 15 minutes for a window seat. I chose to wait and asked if I could have a few drinks at an outside table while I waited. The area looked deserted, so I asked the hostess to make sure that someone came to offer us drinks. She assured me that they would. We waited and waited, but no one came until 20 minutes later when a gentleman came to show us to our table. our server had a large party and looked rather flustered. It took her a while to greet us, but everything went smoothly from there. The swordfish appetizer was fantastic. Our entrees were good but not as great as the last time dined there. I was rather confused and perturbed about the service. The restaurant was rather empty, so I'm not sure if they only had a few people on that weren't able to handle even the small amount of customers or what the issue was. I want to try brunch here but I may wait awhile before coming back.

Google
This place was just OK the photos online really oversell the reality. Valet wasted 10 minutes at least, trying to find me a parking ticket. Finally got up to the restaurant and there was an odd, mold smell walking in. Place felt a bit run down. Food was just ok, i could have made a better sandwich myself. Ordered the philly croissant sandwich. Took forever to get my drink the food came first. Arnold's toddy cocktail was unavailable disappointing. Took forever to get a straw asked a couple times but the waitress was so sweet. Overall the experience was meh. I won't be going back. Not terrible just meh for the price.

2022 update... we are enjoying a date night free of our 7 mo old! Still amazing ambiance, incredible food, and delectable drinks!!!!! Amazingly delicious bar food! My husband and I had a romantic bar food and drinks date after the opera! The bar tender was very nice and made some killer cocktails! We had an amazing time and are exited for our next visit!

Google
We had a reservation at 10:30 AM; I chose the buffet breakfast option. After I took my first round, they collected the buffet dishes at about 11 AM. You should consider that if you go for the buffet, you might lose the chance to take anything more than your first round. The atmosphere, friendly servers, and location with the fantastic view of the city skyline are the best features; cold buffet dishes and early collection of them were the worst! They should consider if someone comes as late as 10:30 AM, they may expect to use the buffet at least for 1 hour!

Yelp
The food was always amazing. The atmosphere was beautiful and in my opinion, they had the best tasting Prosecco. I've ever ha. I'm sad that they are temporarily closed, but I can't wait until they reopen. I will definitely be back!

Yelp
Breakfast for 2. - Ambiance (5*) Loved the top floor vibe. Plush carpet, great table setup, lots of natural light. - Service (1*) I really hate to trash service, but it was pretty awful here. Very friendly don't get me wrong, but so so slow, even with almost no tables to serve. Breakfast took 45 minutes. To add insult to injury, server overcharged us an extra side of fruit, but seeing how long it took to get the check in the first place and having somewhere now to rush off to, we just paid the extra amount (at least I knew it would likely get wiped at checkout on account of being a Globalist). - Yogurt Parfait, $11 (2*) Beautiful presentation, but the granola tasted a little stale, and some of the peaches tasted a little old/dry? It was pretty bizarre because it's pretty hard to mess up yogurt parfait! - Value (3*) At least they don't take advantage of their views to charge a premium. - Final Word Could have been a really pleasant experience but the service and lack of freshness really ruined things for me. I actually went back on day 2 (Globalist benefit) and had a similar experience, whereas my colleague refused and had breakfast elsewhere!

Yelp
This is a vibe on top of the Bellevue Hotel in Philadelphia! Their Manhattan is my favorite! Love me an elevated restaurant! Always a good vibe. Stephen is my favorite bar tender!

Yelp
What an awful experience and place to dine. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. It was nearly impossible to get a reservation, only for us to show up and see so many empty tables. We dressed up because XIX Nineteen is branded as luxurious and elevated, only to find other guests in sweats, casually eating breakfast during their stay at the hotel. How are you going to charge $7 for a speciality drink, only for it to be a tea bag and 3 tablespoons of milk??? Jason was a server and he was nice, however, the service was the slowest service. It took one hour and a half for our food to come out. My mom went to pick something from the buffet, only for this server to tell her to not touch anything because food was being put away. How embarrassing and rude? It was my mom's birthday and Mother's Day. I honestly think our food was served from leftover buffets. Absolutely bland and way too simple. No care was given. Both Jason and this other man gave us our food. The other man's shirt was gross and had food spilled all over it. He smelled so bad and as he was putting our food down, he was huffing and puffing. The lox was old and the menu said they serve everything bagels. We got a plain bagel that was stale and just old. The menu is also very limited. The hotel looks dingy and the carpet has yet to be cleaned. Absolutely mortified and upset with my experience. Also, tea parties are now limited to Flower Show week I think...the website and branding is very deceiving online...beware. I'd love my $100+ back!

Yelp
Took me forever to come here and now it's my new favourite Happy Hour in the city. Tucked away on the 19th floor of the Bellevue hotel is restaurant XIX. With beautiful aesthetics it has a very unique charm. Loved the grand interiors. We had a great time at the Happy Hour the drinks, wish we had the appetite for small bites, definitely going back for more chilled vibes and bites!

Yelp
Food is delicious. If you're not in a hurry, then this is the spot for you to wait on your food. Took about 30 minutes or more until we got our food. We came here several times, twice as a family and once as just parents having some quality time together. Some photos were for brunch only while others are served weekdays for breakfast. We love coming here for ambiance and the staff is very friendly. Just be patient with them as it seems they are understaffed, but they try their best to accommodate.

Yelp
XIX! Booked a resy for Sunday brunch to celebrate my mom's birthday, and it was amazing! While the food was delicious and the view was chefs kiss, it was really the service that made our meal so special. From our reservation confirmation call to the happy birthday mini cupcakes, our host Chris was so thoughtful. We took his recommendations and ordered the eggs benedict, strawberry cheesecake french toast along with the egg breakfast. We ateeeee. Lol We also ordered the mimosa carafe, which easily had 6 servings. Extra points for Chris giving us the drop on the best spots for lighting so we could take pictures. There were so many good photo ops we couldn't choose just one. Noting: Our reservation was for noon, and the place was superrr chill.

Yelp
I have been to XIX several times before the pandemic. From the ambiance to the food service it is impeccable. Its absolutely gorgeous! From the hostess to the service my party and I were beyond pleased with the respect you are given, their courtesy and their manners as well. The food is top notch!!! After pandemic I noticed that they don't have a dinner menu and I am really disappointed about that but, on the other hand, the pandemic changed many things. I will still definitely come in but probably not as often as I used to because of dinner menu. Ty so much for your respect that u show ur customers and ur impeccable food! Definitely too notch.

Yelp
My husband and I stayed in the Bellevue after a show . We had a voucher for drinks after our room wasn't ready to check in. We had a drink at the bar which was good- loved the bartenders- very friendly and attentive. Sunday morning we went to breakfast- I must say it was a huge disappointment. I got the breakfast table which was 27$. Pretty much everything as cold . Potatoes cold and old . Bacon ok ? I had to ask if they were bringing fresh eggs because they were almost gone and looked very unappealing. In addition almost all the plates were dirty. It is also very difficult to try and serve yourself with the setup they have . They are chafing dishes with lids but where do you put the lid while balancing your plate and trying to put food on it. I guess the pastries were good but honestly, nothing made me feel like I had gotten my money's worth. Very disappointing- such a beautiful room too !

Yelp
I celebrated my birthday here with my daughters! And it was a beautiful experience. The ambiance was elegant, the service was impeccable Chris, was our server and made us so comfortable. The food was delicious. This was a birthday to remember

Yelp
I came here for there after hours happy hour. The ambiance was nice everyone enjoying the company they had. I ordered a cocktail, cheesesteak rolls and fries. My waitress was sweet as she continued to check on me and was nice enough to take my photo for me on their lovely balcony. I would come again and hopefully they will go back to serving dinner in the dinning area.

Yelp
My favorite charcuterie board! View was fantastic on the roof, and the waitress was very nice. I asked where I could buy the cute little honey jars, and the staff gave me 1 complimentary and thanked me for my business.

Yelp
My wife and I came here for Thanksgiving. We were thoroughly impressed. The spread of food was amazing and delicious. So many options to choose from and all high quality. Service was impeccable. The Pearl Room was a joy to eat in. If you are looking for a Thanksgiving day experience, XIX Nineteen will be hard to beat.

Yelp
I had a lovely brunch here this past weekend! Had a delicious latte to accompany my fresh fruit, and later my shrimp and grits. The exceptional part came when I told Jason (my server) that I wanted something sweet, like a "bressert". He went to the pastry chef and came back with an assortment of delightful mini pastries that hit the spot perfectly! I had a nice conversation with Yehnar, the manager, about possibly adding the pastry assortment to the menu, and felt like I was talking to a friend! I love great food and ambiance (which XIX has in abundance), but it's great service and staff that makes an establishment truly special! I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I will give it a four-star, and the only reason is because the food is absolutely delicious. However, the service is in dire need of assistance, completely understaffed long waits at the table. The staff hospitality is very very good but the service, the timing and getting the food out and just the organization in general needs help..

Yelp
This restaurant has some of the most magnificent views and it is excellent and delicious food. Decor inside is magnificent, however, I definitely recommend going during restaurant week if they ever have it again, since Covid

Yelp
I took my mother here for breakfast on a Friday morning. I was really excited to take her here because I enjoyed it so much in the past. We ordered an omelet and short rib hash. The omelet was over cooked and bland. The short rib hash was really cooked well. It could've used more seasoning(personal preference) but I really enjoyed it. It's almost as pretty as it was years ago when I came. In the past, I had impeccable service. On this occasion, the service was interesting. We had a server who was new and open to feedback. One of the miniature jams provided on the table had been opened. The other staff was having conversation loudly across the restaurant. I'm not sure if this was due to breakfast almost being over, but I did feel that the yelling across the dining room could've waited until we left. I'd try them again hoping that this was a fluke, but overall it was pretty disappointing.

Yelp
We went here for breakfast on Saturday. The room itself is so beautiful and elegant. I used to love coming for dinner here 25 years ago, it's such a great space. It's not such a great experience now though. Service is incredibly slow. They couldn't find our reservation for a while and then it took forever to get the waiters attention just for coffee. We ordered the bananas foster waffle, pancakes, and yogurt parfait. Despite the fact that it took a long time to come out, it looked like the waffle had been sitting for a while under a warmer. It wasn't crisp and the bananas on top looked dried out and old. The fruit on the yogurt parfait looked really sad too; the blackberries looked old and dried out, the strawberries a bit slimy, and the peaches were hard. I'm not sure how anyone could think that fruit was fit to serve. The pancakes looked ok, I didn't try them. Other than the ambiance, I feel like ihop would have been a better choice. It's really a shame they can't do better with that space and location.

Yelp
I had such a lovely time at this restaurant! I was kindly greeted by the supervisor Chris, he went above and beyond! And then the waitress was able to get me the vegan french toast that I traveled all the way there for, even though they had just switched to lunch. Great food, super hospitable and beautiful decor!

Yelp
Menu was limited and the food was ok. The vibe or ambiance is nice. Almost unmatched. The staff was friendly and professional.

Yelp
My third visit to this beautiful 19th story elegant restaurant with fabulous views of the city. I would have given the first two visits 5 stars but today's only 2. So disappointed as I brought my mother -in-law from out of town and wanted to impress. Important advice: call ahead and ask if they are having the lunch buffet. If not, it's not worth it. The lunch buffet is a steal: includes an entree and unlimited trips to a really wonderful salad buffet and desserts and includes coffee/tea. During Restaurant Week this was $20! Today the buffet was absent. The hostess explained that during the summer when people are "at the shore", there's not enough clientele to justify all that food, which is legit. I hate wasting food, too. So we ordered from the regular menu. The service was very slow considering the simplicity of our order. I had a very nice large green goddess salad and baked oysters in their shells in sherry and crumbs. Very good but served with a regular dinner fork. I requested an oyster fork but they didn't have them. I know it sounds snobbish but if you're going to serve shellfish, you need the correct tools. My husband and MIL ordered a fancy club sandwich with fries. The fries and toast were cold, like the plate had been sitting out a long time. We requested fresh fries. They turkey was deli turkey, not real roasted. It was OK but not worth $18. In total our meal was $81 + tip including 3 iced teas. Pretty steep for an average lunch. In short, make sure the buffet is open. And you get the best deal during Restaurant Week.

Yelp
For the record, I'm not a big tea person. When my girlfriend asked me if I wanted to do afternoon tea, I had no idea what she really meant. But I'm all for new experiences, so she made reservations for us for some 2 o'clock afternoon tea! XIX is located on the nineteenth floor (of course) of the Bellevue Hotel. You get to choose one tea, and are given a prefixed menu of small bites and pastries. You can add a glass of champagne or cocktails for an additional price, but the standard set comes with a lot already. Our server was very friendly and informative. He brought out a small box with each available tea for us to take in the scent of each one, to help us decide which one to choose. He was also helpful in offering recommendations for which tea to select. I chose the mango oolong tea, which was delicious. We were then brought a 3-tiered dish set with all the food on them. My favorites were the Mozzarella (this was almost like a caprese salad, but on a lavash) and smoked salmon. All of the items are prepared beforehand. On one hand, you get your food fast. However I can't help but wonder what some of the items would taste like fresh (specifically the duck and cream puffs). Despite these complaints, I had a wonderful time...doing afternoon tea. Most of the food I enjoyed. The restaurant itself had a very upscale, regal vibe, with a great view of downtown Philadelphia.

Yelp
Very formal restaurant, with magnificent views. When it comes to city skyline views at restaurants, this tops the list. Great spot to dress up, and celebrate something. Amazing bartenders, drinks were on point.
google avatar

Peter N.

Yelp
Had drinks with a group of eight on a Saturday night. Service was a little slow. They were out of a handful of items that we ordered. View from the bar is good, but you sort of need to sneak out to one of the two dining rooms to get the great views. Overall, good little spot to preparty but not worth it to be the main event of the evening.
google avatar

Eugene A.

Yelp
Good food. Nice views. Super service. Located on the 19th floor of the Bellevue. If you're just in the mood for drinks and small bites, there is a nice little bar with bar stools and chairs and tables for relaxing or working.

Yelp
So I made a reservation via opentable for Saturday at 8. I never been here before but I read the mixed reviews and wanted to check it out for myself. First, parking, I turned in the Hyatt off broad st and parked in the lot. That was a quick $32.00 off the bat but a few steps and two elevators later we arrived at XIX. Once I arrived, I told the hostess my name and we seated immediately. It's a huge space and it's absolutely beautiful inside. Our server was 6/10 and I'm being generous. I always feel like when I come to high end restaurants I have a higher expectation from a server than let's say from Applebee's. Didn't didn't tell us about the dinner specials, didn't clear off our plates, didn't bring out the proper utensils and didn't ask to refill or replace our drinks. . So I wasn't too thrilled with the customer service levels. At all Now to the food. Although the portion sizes are miniature, the quality and tastes of the food were excellent. The scallops were incredible and we were both satisfied with our entree selections. To be honest, the quality/taste of the food and the views within the space are the saving graces from my experience. Not sure if I will be again but I hope that if you visit your experience will be much different than mine.

Yelp
During my stay at the Hyatt Bellevue I had the pleasure of dining at XIX for breakfast and dinner. Overall, the food and service was outstanding. The breakfast buffet offers a wide variety of choices and is well worth the price. The dinner menu offers lots of seafood choices. I had the crab cakes which were delicious. The staff working during breakfast was awesome. Particularly Banche who went out of her way to learn all my preferences during my stay and was super friendly and helpful. Also the very friendly Stephan who was working the bar at dinner time. He made some great beer and dinner menu recommendations and accommodated my special order nonsense with aplomb. In addition to the great staff and food, XIX is an architectural gem and should be on the list of any lover of historic buildings. Its a beautiful restaurant! Highly recommend.

Yelp
Although, XIX isn't a place i would visit for food. I will say that it was one of the nicer bar experiences i've had in philly. this place can very well be a speakeasy. the ambiance remains classy but comfortable. i was quite surprised by the crowd during happy hour but it was a friday night after all. it has been a while since i've visited XIX. the previous time, the HH promo was 50% off of cocktails. now they are $8 a pop. a little pricey right? especially compared to the $3-4 draft beers at the pubs just downstairs. However, it might just be worth it! i got the winter shady cocktail. a sweet holiday concoction that felt like it should be enjoyed by the fire place. it was such a smooth blend, it could probably fool a non-alcoholic drinker! but it will hit you when you least expect it. XIX also offers couple food options at a discount. truffle fries - $4, oysters, flatbreads $6. truffle fries are great for sharing! skinny "shoestring" style with a crunch. the tomato mozzarella flatbread was alright~ we mainly didn't want to drink on an empty stomach. i'm pretty content with the menu upgrade even though the lychee martini is no longer a happy hr special. it's nice to see some changes seeing management probably considered some of the feedback they received from their customers. overall, it was a pricier happy hour sesh but i had fun! great spot for GNO. i would visit again!

Yelp
We had a nice brunch at XIX Nineteen this past Sunday. I made reservations for 11:30am on Open Table which is a huge advantage in my mind. They did not seat people waiting for brunch until promptly 11:30 which is understandable because the food has to be set up before everyone is seated. The hostess was kind as was our server. Our coffee cups were not automatically refilled and we had to ask a few times. The dining room is very pretty and the view is nice. In the dining room is the main buffet with fresh oysters, shrimp, salads, salmon, meats, cheeses, vegetables and more. In the room before the dining room is the breakfast pastries and desserts. You also get a menu to order an entree made fresh in the kitchen. I loaded up on oysters and picked on other things on the buffet. I ordered the crab cake Benedict as my entree. It was good. It came with two mini crab cakes and two poached eggs. With all of the food I got, I could only eat one of the Benedict's. The restaurant is nice, especially for special occasions and the food is yummy.

Yelp
Love love love weekend brunch here. For $38 per person, you get access to a full appetizer buffet with oysters and shrimp cocktail, a main course and a dessert buffet. The restaurant space is beautiful, open and peaceful. The lady who showed us our table was a bit rude and didn't seem to know what she was doing. However, our server was absolutely a darling and was super nice and knowledgeable about the buffet items. The first-course buffet had a great selection of salads, meats (smoked salmon, salami, and prosciutto), two types of cheeses (brie and aged white cheddar) and access to an oyster and shrimp bar with assorted dips. I ordered the Crab Cake Benedict for my main course and it was amazing. The poached eggs were super smooth and the potatoes were garlicky and crispy. The crab and brioche paired super well too. My stomach had no more room for dessert but would highly recommend coming here for weekend brunch.

Yelp
XIX is possibly one of the most aesthetically pleasing restaurants in the city, sitting 19 floors above ground, overlooking Center City. It's a bit art deco, and it's divided into the "cafe" section, the bar area, the private room, and the main dining room adorned with giant pearls hanging from the ceiling. I was here for a farewell lunch for my boss during the week, and service was very prompt, as it was rather quiet that day. This is not the type of place you would consider "budget friendly" for lunch - as an entree will easily run you upwards of more than $30.00. However, they run a lunch buffet special with an assortment of salads, a soup, charcuterie, and mini desserts for $22.00. For an additional $4.00, there is a list of entrees that you can add on. I chose to go to for the cafe lunch buffet salad special and added a croque monsieur. I really enjoyed the giant bean salad, the pasta salad, the quinoa salad, the tomato bisque, and the assortment of meats and cheeses. The croque monsieur was on the greasy side, and I really shouldn't have opted for the sandwich to go with an already robust salad buffet lunch, but the french fries were delicious. For dessert, I sampled the lemon tart, the pineapple/coconut cake, and fresh berries. I would say, unless you're absolutely starving and you have a huge appetite, the cafe lunch buffet should suffice. The only thing I didn't care for was that the server took away my menu when I was away from my seat for a few minutes (didn't take anyone else's away) and lifted my plate before I was finished eating. Overall, this is probably a great spot for a happy hour if you're looking for ambience and a gorgeous view of the city.

Yelp
It had been years since I'd been here but everything was exactly as I remembered. Balcony with a great view of the city, amazing food, extensive cocktail list, and the same funky acoustics in the large round dining room you enter as you get off the elevator. Brunch reservations had been made to celebrate some friends' recent nuptials so XIX seemed like an appropriate place to host that. We were originally supposed to have one of their private rooms but unfortunately it was not ready for us so we were sat at two separate but adjacent tables. They took 20% off the bill due to their mistake. There was a fixed menu that allowed for access to three different salads, a soup (that day was a spinach and tomato soup that was off the charts!), and an assortment of cheeses and charcuterie. I ordered right and got the roasted duck breast with leeks, roasted stone fruit, and pickled mustard seeds. (Quick, short rant here about those mustard seeds: bruh, why? Get rid of it. Someone was just in the kitchen pickling things to be pickling things, lol. Ok done.) Loved the dish nonetheless. Dessert was pretty decent. You could help yourself to fresh berries, fresh whipped cream, and an assortment of cookies, cannolis, and cupcakes. My only gripe was that...listen, XIX is not an inexpensive place and there's definitely a privileged "air" to the place. Nevertheless, to be regarded as an upscale restaurant with upscale restaurant prices, I expect upscale service. I shouldn't have to ask for dirty plates to be taken away nor should I have to ask for the appropriate silverware for certain dishes. And if you're going to serve super crusty bread then I need the bread crumbs to be swept from the table with that metal pen thing before the entrees arrive. See, I'm fancy ;-)

Yelp
I had booked this for an evening when I thought we would be tired from sightseeing; and, it turned out a business partner and his date would join us! So, a small family meal turned into a cause for celebration. My wife and I had been up on a previous night for cocktails and wine; and, I sampled an exceptional Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley and a Negrette from France, while she had the Rose Cello, a play on pink lemonade, but an adult version. Jessica was our server the first night in the bar and she provided exemplary service. On our evening dining, Dom was our server; and, he was patient with us, as we hadn't seen Nate in over a year; and, had never met his girlfriend. Eventually, we ordered drinks (Bourbon Smash for me; and, another Rose Cello for my wife.) No one else at the table drank, so we quickly settled on appetizers. I tried 3 oysters from New Brunswick and 3 oysters from Maryland... the Maryland "cup" oysters were briny and sweet, delicious. Others shared a platter of 3 cheeses, since two of our party are vegetarians. My wife had the Cream of Chestnut soup. We finally settled on mains, so we could clear the menus from the table, Pasta Torcha for 2 of our guests, a Seared Salmon and a Trout for two others; and, I had the modern interpretation of Chicken a la King , which was created at the Bellevue. The chicken featured a roast breast (airline style) on top of a thigh confit, with mushrooms and two sauces. It was quite good; but, I was expecting something a bit more "traditional" although I'm not a fan of the original; and, so I may not be the best judge. Desserts all around, with two Coconut Panna Cotta; two Cran Burle Cheesecakes, a Latte and a Decaf Cappuccino. After supper, the hostess showed us around the 19th floor, even the Rose Garden ballroom. She is the 2nd generation employed at the property, as her father worked at the hotel for 15 years! We had a great time in a great space, with superior service; and, culinary skills. For dinner, appetizers, drinks and desserts, including tip, we hit about $90 per person, which wasn't bad at all.,

Yelp
How ironic on the same night, someone with the same first name, also a party of four makes a ressie for around the same time? Roy Lan, if you're reading this, yes this happened to us. You checked in just a taaad before us, under our name, and was given our table by the window, looking down into the city. Luckily, I was there with great company., so that sorta made up for it. While waiting to check in, my party and i found the area to smell of.. urine. Did anyone else notice that on Friday night? It kind of grossed us out since we saw people dining not too far from where we were waiting to be checked in. If this is your first time, like it was ours, locating the restaurant would be confusing. The Palm overlaps XIX's sign, so you can easily drive or walk past the place. But it is the same entrance as The Palm, only once get in, you'll take the elevator up to the 19th Floor. We went for restaurant week. For an additional $14, you can pair your dinner with two glasses of wine (you get to choose from 4-5 of their selections between red and white). Food came out relatively slow. There was a long gap between our appetizer and entree being served. So from the restaurant week menu, i ordered: Grilled octopus - you get one tentacle. i was expecting octopus, not just the tentacle? It was ok. It tasted like it was overflowing with lime juice. I'm not sure, it was too sour for me to even taste any other possible flavor. Red Snapper -I've picked out at least 6 fish scales that was still on my snapper. Why? Chocolate Mousse - Maybe because i'm a chocolate lover, this was the best part of the meal. The chocolate was heaven. I would probably be back to try their regular entrees but definitely no more Red Snapper for me.

Yelp
I went for breakfast with my daughter. The server overheard her mentioned how fancy it was and he went out of his way to give us top of line "fancy" service. Breakfast was simple- bacon and eggs for me, pastries and yogurt for her. It was yummy. But, the dining room, the view and the service are spectacular.

Yelp
Writing this review is a bit late since my visit was in January, but I can't not write one considering the experience. My brothers reserved a room for my mom's birthday with around 10-15 people. The place looks very nice and the room we had was removed from the main dining room. The menu was a bit underwhelming, but I decided to get the house salad and the salmon. The salad was an underwhelming one that I probably could have gotten from Chilis for $2. The salmon wasn't awful, but it definitely needed more attention in the seasoning department. The service was also pretty MIA, since there were several times when we needed water, a menu, or other things and literally had to walk out of the room and down the hall. For a high class restaurant, I definitely expected more.

Yelp
Horrible service! My friend came here for our birthday even though we made our reservation at 1:45 they won't seat us until 2:30. After we are seated, our server let us wait for at least 20 minutes without water or food. They completed messed up our reservation and the waitresses were so rude and impolite! 100% do not recommend this restaurant even though it has a nice ambiance the service is just not worth it.

Yelp
I went to XIX for their brunch on Saturday. The room is very nice, and the outer cafe area has a huge domed roof. The views are great from the 19th floor. Their brunch has a limited selection of cold salads, seafood, and fruit in the center bar area, and desserts in an anteroom. The entree menu had about 10 items, ranging from eggs, steak and eggs, crab Benedict, to chicken and waffles. Everything was good, though nothing was really outstanding. This was Saturday, and business was very slow. We were the only ones in the room, and when we left at 12:30, there was one other couple. A nice room, but just OK brunch.

Yelp
Chosen for it's proximity to the Academy of Music, but now we can't wait to return for a more leisurely savoring of one of the best prixe fix brunches I've ever had. You can imagine how spectacular it is if I say it was a great value even at $45/head. (Alcoholic drinks are extra.) We were on tight timeline to make the 2pm matinee of the ballet at the Academy (literally next door on Broad, across Locust St). Staff kept us on schedule without making us feel rushed -- just well attended to. First course: mini-buffet around a tall bar area -- you serve yourself raw bar items such as shrimp and oysters, plus excellent nova/smoked salmon, a couple great salads, and sundry other delicious things. Second course is ordered from an enticing list of entrees -- some brunch-like, some supper-like. I ordered the crispy-skinned bronzino over faro, my mother (her special birthday) ordered crab-cakes Benedict. Both dishes were perfectly prepared and beautifully presented and just the right portion size to leave room for... the scrumptious dessert buffet. Mini cakes and tarts, fresh berries, muffins too numerous to taste all so a return trip is necessary. The place was surprisingly uncrowded -- perhaps people were put off by the requirement of 3 courses, or the $45 price (it comes to that or more in the end, at less expensive restaurants around center city) but the parking at $30 (with the unimpressive $2 discount from the restaurant) was very, very off-putting. Parking should not add 30% more cost to your meal! They really must solve that -- especially on weekends when the adjacent garage is not as busy as during the week. They also should open the bridge entrance from the parking garage to the hotel -- it was sad to have my dear mother hobbling precariously to make her way to the hotel -- although there was a very slow elevator next to the Ludlow St entrance stairs. A doorman's help is needed for access. The lobby elevator is right next to it to travel to the restaurant on the 19th floor (hence the name XIX). Beautiful, romantic, ornate but comfortable for business. Tables nicely spaced. Great, glass-enclosed private dining room looked like it seated 16 or so. It's a splurge that was so worth it for how much joy my mother had going there!

Yelp
I feel like not many people know about the killer deal that is XIX's three-course weekend brunch. For $22 a person, it's one of the nicest deals in the city, and in such a nice location. Being on the 19th floor of the Bellevue, the view is fantastic and you can look out onto the city from different directions. The first and third course are essentially all you can eat, and the brunch includes a variation of sweetened/unsweetened teas. The first course include salads, cheeses, and charcuterie. You can stuff yourself on this alone, so make sure you save room for the rest of the meal. The second course is your choice from a handful of options that include some form of pizza, steak, vegetarian pasta, and fish. The main entree was really quite delicious and had great presentation. This spot was surprisingly not packed around noon on a Saturday morning, and I plan to be back here for a quiet weekend morning with quality food and service that won't break the bank.

Yelp
My sister and I wanted to surprise our parents with dinner in the city in celebration of the holiday season. We researched many options and decided on XIX. XIX did not disappoint! It was the perfect venue for a relaxing evening of conversation and good food. We dined in the pearl room, which was intimate and quiet. Our waiter served a basket of bread with softened butter. We each ordered a different main dish- short ribs, salmon, pasta, and trout. I sampled each of them and although every dish was delicious, the braised beef short ribs were the best! They were perfectly tenderized and seasoned. If my wallet would allow it, I would eat them everyday. I highly recommend XIX for the excellent ambiance, great service, and delicious food.

Yelp
I'm frequently at the Hyatt. Food from XIX has tended to be quite average across the board. I don't like their salads or entrees very much, but their breakfast is decent. This last experience just had me shaking my head though. I ordered a grilled chicken burger. On my second bite into it, bit into something hard that hurt my teeth. Looked and there was the breast bone... When I asked if there was supposed to be a bone in it, they said yes it's a breast with one bone in it. That is such an incredibly bad idea to put a boned chicken breast into a burger with a bun on it - I'm lucky my teeth are in one piece (even though they still hurt).

Yelp
Your on the nineteenth floor of the Hyaat. I'll stay here again just taking the elevator up to the bar it beats the subway! Nice bar great bartender people from all over talking business. It was happy hour I got a local beer and a Rose Cello it's limoncello, lemon juice raspberry syrup and champagne. Limoncello is an Italian lemon liquer from southern Italy good drink. Comen back for happy hour and more cocktails!

Yelp
Staff is always friendly and engaging. The main dining room is enchanting. The menu changes but the crab cake Benedict was tasty. No filling just fresh lump crab meat. Sunday's brunch is my favorite.

Yelp
Four of us sat down to dine nice and early. The restaurant is of course beautiful as others have noted. Unfortunately nothing else would compel any of us to return. We actually ran into another couple who were friends of ours by coincidence. They sat near us and at the end of the evening we compared notes, and all six of us were in agreement. First, the service, while friendly, was very slow. This was exacerbated by the fact that they screwed up on the wine three times. Our first choice: the waiter returned with the wine list and said I'm sorry we're out of that one. How about this one instead? OK. We wait some more. Later on in the evening we try for a red. We were brought the wrong bottle. Second try on the red: Oh I'm sorry sir we actually don't have what you want, how about this one instead? No thank you, I want something completely different. OK, I will bring the sommelier. OH WOW, you couldn't have done that in the first place? Hello, Sommelier. Hello sir. May I actually see the wines in the lovely glassed-in area? One of my companions and I leave the table. We want to make SURE that they have the wine we will order. The Sommelier apologizes that the wine list isn't up to date. Boy, I'll say. Now here's where I depart from the perhaps many of the general public and I don't mean to be a wine snob but why would a fancy expensive restaurant not have any wine on their list that isn't over $50 retail? Anyways we finally get a red that we spied through the glass. It was fine, because we were familiar with it. In the meantime the appetizers had come out and been finished. The cobia was tough and did not seem fresh. Its accompaniments were interesting in concept but not well-seasoned and the sour cream was slathered on thick. The soup was ok but forgettable. For the mains, the duck was bland and overcooked. The salmon was horrible, and tasted like it had been frozen too long. The venison was properly cooked. It seems as if the recipes and concepts would work, perhaps on a busier night when the kitchen is paying attention and the ingredients are fresh? We didn't have problems with some of the flavors, but the execution was poor. Our friends nearby agreed and one of them did not have more than two bites of the trout, which was apparently awful. None of us will come back.

Yelp
Went there for City Restaurant Week. Enjoyed it very much. We had three course meal for $35. Winter vegetable and barley soup, wild boar shank and peanut butter cheesecake. All were very good. Boat shank was very tender and delicious. I would return again.

Yelp
The view, YES! The decorations, YES! The food.... Eh. Note: it was restaurant week! But we were not impressed. We waited about 15 minutes for our table despite it being a slow night (only one of the rooms was open) and us having a reservation. The wait staff took a while to get us water, bread, and menus. Three of the five entres arrived at the same time and the other 2 were about 10 minutes later. It was fine, but with all the fancy ingredients in our dishes, we expected them to have more flavor. We shared so I got to try almost everything on their menu. The desserts were big and rich and we all left satiated if not full

Yelp
Booked a nice meal before seeing The Barber of Seville kimmel center this past weekend . Ordered off of the pre theater menu and chose the Cream of Fennel Tomato and Paprika Soup, Rohan Duck Breast, and Mulled Wine Poached Pear. For starters the soup could have been a bit hotter but very tasty. The duck was cooked to a medium and a bit under seasoned though the cranberry citrus puree really helped push the dish. Lastly I was a bit disappointed by the dessert which I was expecting a warm pear that would be easy to cut through , though it was hard . Though the dish had good flavor and I enjoyed the coffee. Overall I give a 3.5 an extra .5 for the awesome service that we received. Awesome view, awesome decor, close by for the arts.
