The Best Ethiopian Restaurants in the Twin Cities | Eater Twin Cities

"Formerly home to Betty’s Kitchen, Yadot is the new Ethiopian restaurant on West St. Paul’s Dodd Road, from owners Asamnew Sahle and Haile Asfa. Start with an order of chuko — a traditional Oromo dish made with roasted barley flour, ample butter, and spices, all blended into a dough and cut into bite-sized morsels — as a precursor to a steaming plate of cardamom-laced siga wat, or gomen (seasoned collard greens) and tegabino shiro (a spicy ground pea stew). Yadot also offers traditional coffee ceremonies." - Ali Elabbady

Wonderful aromas when we entered the restaurant. Great vegan options. All the vegetarian options were vegan. My wife and I split the vegetarian platter with leftovers to spare. Very filling. All the items were delicious, though my favorite dishes were the red lentils, and the potatoes with carrots. There was a spicy puree that I enjoyed, as well as a bright yellow lentil dish that was great. My son had a delectable chicken dish with tasty rice that he finished, though he nearly burst. My mother enjoyed a fish dish she ordered. The waiter recommended a strong wine with honey for my wife, which was warming and delightful. He recommended a popular Ethiopian beer (a well-balanced lager with a nice malty backbone) that I enjoyed. The dining area was clean and well-maintained. One area of opportunity: the lighting was too bright. The space could have used softer, more intimate lighting. But that wasn’t a deal-breaker. The food was excellent, and the service was great. We’ll be back.

I can't say enough good things about this Ethiopian gem! From the moment I entered, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality. The ambiance was cozy, with traditional Ethiopian decor adding to the experience. The menu offered a wide array of options, and everything we tried was absolutely delicious. The injera was soft and flavorful, and each dish was bursting with authentic Ethiopian spices. The service was attentive without being intrusive, making for a relaxed and enjoyable meal. If you're looking for an unforgettable dining experience, look no further than this five-star Ethiopian restaurant

This was my first time trying Ethiopian food and I'm so glad I tried it here. The food was amazing. The owner was so nice and inviting. He answered questions we had and made sure we had everything we needed. Try the coffee!! I would definitely eat here again.

This restaurant is the best! Delicious food and really nice staff. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to others. We split the veggie combo and sambusas and it was so good. Also, don’t skip the tea!

I originally went to this location when it was a different name and under different ownership. The food was fine, but there was really only one dish I could get as a vegan. I decided to go back now that it is owned by new people. HUGE difference! The vibe of the place was completely different, the menu has wonderful traditional dishes and the flavor, presentation and everything about the food is amazing! So happy to see this change and I will deffinately be back. Get out and get some fantastic Ethiopean food in West St Paul!

We had an amazing experience at Betty's kitchen! The food was simply marvelous and the service friendly and helpful. The place has only been open about 2 1/2 weeks at this point. And we are excited to return! Be sure to stop in and try this much needed new neighborhood flavor⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The food here both smells great and tastes great. The injera is served on a colorful plate, and a lidded basket. The staff here were very accommodating, asking if butter was okay for our meal, and our chef was very careful to prepare the food without onions. The vegetarian miser wot was served in a small lidded black pot, and my partner and I enjoyed every last bite of it. Make sure to stop by if you're craving Ethiopian food in the area, because they have free parking for customers.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing food here! We ordered the veggie combo (good for 2 people) that included gomen, tikil gomen, key mesir, shiro and potato and carrots. Our first time here and we'll definitely be back again to try their meat options.

Yelp
It is a "hole in the wall" kind of place. Go for the food, and the service, not for the decor. Dont get me wrong, it is clean and the decor is basic. But nothing special But when the food is served, it elevates the experience. The owner/waiter was very attentive to our group. We liked the food and the experience and will gladly go there again. If you like vegan fod, try some of their vegan options.
