The 38 Best Restaurants in Osaka, Japan | Eater

"There are many shrines to skewered chicken around the city, but none holier than Ichimatsu. A dozen counter seats around an altar-like grill allow diners to witness Hideto Takeda’s mastery of yakitori and Hinai-jidori birds from Akita prefecture. Skin, gizzards, neck, and sashimi are all highlights of the constantly changing omakase, and the pickled kinkan (early stage, unlaid eggs) are revelatory. Must-try menu: Go for the Hinai chicken kaiseki featuring different parts of the bird in various preparations, such as firewood-grilled wings." - La Carmina

"On the theme of ‘playing with fire’, the chef finds ingenious variations on flame and preparation, resulting in yakitori full of variation and surprises. Smoky aromas billow from wing tips grilled over a wood flame. Helmeted guinea fowl, deep-fried with minimal oil, is an idea borrowed from tempura. Duck is char-grilled and swaddled in ankake sauce. Chicken paté and fruit skewers cleanse the palate between courses. You never know what’s coming next, and that’s part of the fun." - Michelin Inspector

"A one-Michelin-star omakase in Osaka devoted to Hinai Jidori chicken across an 18-course progression; the meal is humble and impeccably executed, driven by ingredient focus rather than flashy plating, and marked by the quiet, unassuming presence of the chef working behind the grill." - Erin Russell

2 month aged chicken prosciutto?! Absolutely nuts, but so delicious. All chicken course that uses all parts of the chicken and they have ala carte options at the end with specialties like the ovary if you're adventurous. Sake pairing was worth it. You'll understand why they have one star.

Was it pricey for yakitori? Yes Was the experience worth it? Absolutely! Every dish/skewer was delicious. Got the chicken uterus as an add-on. It was little pouches of warm yolk. Chef offered complimentary curry rice at the end but we were too full to try. Limited seating. Reservation is a must.

Dining at Yakitori Ichimatsu was an amazing experience that I highly recommend trying! To start, the location is very convenient and the restaurant is in an area where various modes of public transport are available. As for the restaurants atmosphere, the restaurant is very modern and clean - so there are no issues with that. The staff are very friendly and informative, to the point that they will try their best to translate the dish names in your preferred language so that you can have the best experience. They are also very accommodating to personal requirements and more. Lastly, the food is absolutely amazing. The restaurant serves many classic Japanese items such as yakitori grilled chicken and spring onion that are of course delicious, but on the other side, very innovative yet great dishes. An example of this is the dry-aged chicken or chicken ham that they served which I really enjoyed! Overall, this was an amazing restaurant experience and I highly recommend you trying it if you’re in Osaka!

It’s expensive but I think it’s worth it. Great quality chicken and nice presentation.

Trying this Michelin 1-star yakitori omakase in Osaka It was our first omakase ever, and honestly, it set the bar high. From the top-quality chicken to the perfect seasoning, flavour pairings and flawless execution—we loved everything. Some highlights were the oden-style ricotta in chicken stock, the quail egg, and the chicken pâté sandwich. The service was just as impressive. No need to stress if you don’t speak Japanese—the chef explained every dish in English with so much care, making the whole experience super accessible. We left full, happy, and already planning our next visit.

Great yakitori omakase experience focused on fire grilled chicken (and its many parts!). I was the only foreigner when I came and it was an amazing experience to be there with all Japanese guests, I really got to feel the love of food all the other people in the restaurant had! Every course was delicious and nicely grilled over the fire, which we could see from our counter seats. Some cuts were not as cooked as I am used to, but my North American palette is to blame for that! The chicken thigh with scallion, the chicken liver, the cheese in broth, the chicken burger sandwich and the chicken meatball were my favourite courses. The chicken prosciutto was super interesting as well. You can also order extras of your favourite skewers at the end before dessert if you wish. The chef also made sure I was okay and took the time to explain to me what each course was in English, which was much appreciated as there was no written menu.
