"Hand rolls and dressed nigiri from chef Huy Pham are the stars of the show at Yakuza House, which recently celebrated its relocation to a bigger Metairie space. One of the area’s best new sushi spots in years, a new, bigger menu still offers temaki in 3, 4, and 5 roll sets — the last one for the “hangry” — in addition to a slew of individual rolls, solo sashimi pieces and dressed sashimi sets, intricately dressed nigiri, and more (not to mention an omakase option). This is a place to celebrate and splurge — though with reasonable prices, splurging here is a good return on investment." - Beth D’Addono

"Try rare imported fish at the occasion-worthy Yakuza House, chef Huy Pham’s groundbreaking sushi hub in Metairie. Dressed nigiri are works of art, centering proteins like cuttlefish, salmon belly, yellowtail, fatty bluefin, saltwater eel, and more. Sashimi serves as another vessel to try some of the freshest fish in town, as does the wide range of temaki handrolls. For a special splurge, choose the omakase option which serves 10 to 12 courses; heavily featuring nigiri." - Beth D’Addono

"Yakuza House known for its fabulous omakase menu, which has terrific cooked options in the rice bowl and noodles category. Top seasoned rice with shaved beef, katsu chicken, or pork and egg salad. Chef Huy Pham’s yaki soba noodles come with chicken or pork and there’s a veggie mushroom carbonara dish with three kinds of fungi and a tasty garlic butter sauce." - Beth D’Addono

"Having moved into a bolder space on Severn Avenue, Yakuza House expanded beyond its earlier focus on handrolls and dressed nigiri but kept the omakase as its star; I found the tasting menu to heavily feature intricately dressed nigiri like shima aji with yuzu zest; kanpachi with honey miso, shiso pesto, and fried shallots; and Otoro with Murasaki uni, Kaluga caviar, truffle pate, and gold flakes. The experience also commonly includes chef’s sashimi such as yellowtail with yuzu ponzu and pink peppercorn and temaki using rare fish like akami. Yakuza House is open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Saturday; ask your server about the omakase option, which is available in the dining room or the private omakase room but not at the izakaya bar." - Clair Lorell
