13 Stellar Curries in Portland

"In a small, SE 82nd Avenue strip mall, this unassuming Chinese restaurant serves supremely tender beef brisket pieces, hearty baby bok choy, and chunks of ginger covered in a dark, savory sauce. A bed of rice is essential — each grain soaks up every last bit of flavor." - Nick Woo

Good food. Great portions. Service is great! I would eat/order from here again. House special fried rice has a lot of protein. BBQ duck and pork is good flavor. Salt pepper squid has heavy breading. Good flavor.

Google
A great place for a delicious bowl of wonton egg noodle soup. The wontons and soup are perfect. Friendly people and fast service. Roast pork could be crispier.

Google
I ordered Roast pork wontons noodle with roast pork on the side because I like crispy skin but it’s came out so disappointed. Roast pork skin really soft and the dish so dirty and greasy. I asked staff why my roast pork skin so soft and they response to me if you want your roast pork cold then crispy skin or roast pork hot then skin not crispy because we microwave it. So because it’s already made We can’t change it. 😱 I told staff but the waiter didn’t ask me if i want hot or cold pork. I want my roast pork on the side bc of crispy. Staff walked away any come back with pork skin only in her hand and put on my dish “HERE” 🫣 over all roast pork meat still so hard and I can tell it’s leftover food and they microwave and resale it 🤮. When I went to make payment staff ask me do you leave a tips on the table? How rule is that? I did not get a service I deserve to get and they still ask me for tips!!! I tell staff “NO TIP” your foods is awful and she 👀 at me with evil eyes and walk away. I highly do not recommend anyone getting any food here EVER. Don’t ever treat customer like that then ask for tip. You are lucky I pay for my meal which gross and end up I can’t finished my food and lose my taste bc of that.

Google
Pretty decent place to get a good bowl of wonton noodle soup. The menu is similar to the restaurant that was there beforehand (Good Taste). I ordered the special combination that came with duck, bbq pork, and roasted pork. I usually like the meat on the side so it doesn't get all soggy. The broth was good, and the portions were generous. The service is pretty quick.

Google
Affordable price, large amount, very tasty dumplings! Their chili oill dumplings were the best I've tried in the US. I couldn't stop eating them even though I was full.

Google
Wanted some Chinese bbq for lunch so I stopped in. Should have read reviews first. Roast pork was not crispy and tasted old. The bbq pork was OK, but it didn't make up for how bad the Roast pork was. I will find a good spot for my Chinese bbq jones.

Google
I ordered wonton soup and found a dead fruit fly in my bowl. I told the lady server. There was no apology or offer to replace it. We arrived last and hadn’t even finished our food yet when the server rushed us out. Terrible service and bland food.

Google
I did take-out orders of roasted pork a couple of times. The taste and crispness were fantastic both times. I would not hesitate to go back and grab more when I have a chance.

Yelp
Traditional wonton and fish ball soup. Life is good when you can have hot soup. Reminds me of when I eat on the street foods in Kowloon, HK Come enjoy local business at least weekly. Peace & Many Rich Blessings

Yelp
Thumbs up ~ sizeable piping hot bowl of dumpling soup, smooth flavor. Mound of Chow Mein noodles fresh & hot. Prices are right on. Not the most pleasing decor, a bit grungy. Service was smiley & friendly. Packed with regulars.

Yelp
Got the wonton soup with egg noodles and roast pork and bbq pork combo over rice. Unfortunately the meats were dry. The taste was just okay for both the roast and bbq pork. The soup tasted very light, and I didn't mind that, just wish there was a bit more flavor and umami to it. The wontons were fine, but I was not a big fan of the thin egg noodles. Price, quality, quantity: 6.0/10 These 2 dishes came out to around $30. If the flavor profile was there and the freshness as well, I would've given more credit to where it's due, but unfortunately it just didn't deliver, especially the meats I got. The portions were fine though. Overall, I have to admit that it wasn't worth what I paid for. Maybe it was just the time that I went, or just that particular day or something.

Yelp
Have ordered catering and separate BBQ items from here and would recommend. For catering items (fried rice and chow fun), I ordered lbs of each and was provided 7 lbs of each which was appreciated. Overall, if you're looking for authentic Chinese food/bbq this is the place to get it with no frills.

Yelp
3.5 stars for this noodle spot. The portion sizes were huge, but I think the taste of the soup could be a little better. It's good, but not great. I think the soup base at another noodle house is better than them. The gailan was tender and garlicky though, so we really enjoyed it. The bbq from this spot is pretty good though. My favorite it probably the bbq spareribs and bbq pork.

Yelp
Wanted to give a quick review as I've been here recently when craving some comfort food and was very surprised. The woman working as so kind and friendly, and service was really quick. I was super surprised by the portion sizes this time around though. We ordered two entrees and it could've easily served 3 people. The congee was delicious and so healing and the wonton soup was so flavorful and the portion was so generous (I mean, look at how much meat there is). Overall, a go-to and highly recommend.

Yelp
I actually really enjoy Yang Kee! It's in a little plaza off of 82nd and is pretty easily missed if you don't look carefully enough. It has the classic Chinese roasted duck and pork front - the roast duck and pork hang from racks near a window so that customers can see them on display. I enjoy the simplicity of the Noodle dishes and the meat. Sometimes the meat can be a little slim (more bone than meat), but usually there are some good thick chunks amidst the bony ones. They also sell noodle soups - including the classic wonton soup. The wontons are freshly made and pretty well packed, and they also have bigger chunks of bok choy to top the bowl. Overall, this place is a pretty solid find and I will be back.

Yelp
First visit here :) hence just our 4 stars. We would love to return and try out their other menu items. Parking is a bit tight @ this location. If you find one, take it. Don't expect to find one closer to the restaurant. When you get seated, they serve you hot tea, or water if that's what you would like instead. They offer hot noodle soups, stir fried noodles, rice plates, and family style dining. Roast duck: this is the main reason why we visited today. We used to go to YaYa, but they closed down. And then we would have to travel far to 99 ranch at times whenever we wanted duck. But then we came across this place :) they reheat the duck since it's hanging on their display case. Which doesn't bother us. Flavorful and the skin is nice and crunchy. They also serve duck fat on the side for more flavor. Yum. BBQ pork: juicy and not dry at all! Yummy and packed with flavor. It gives off a nice bbq taste with some of the burnt prices. House fried rice and broccoli are both what you would expect at a Chinese restaurant. Overall the quality of their food was amazing. Definitely will return!

Yelp
First of all, the price is right for their noodle bowls. Wonton noodle soup and Dumpling noodle soup are both only $10 each. The bowl is big and the amount of noodle is decent. We ordered the dumpling noodle soup and stewed beef wonton noodle for our party. There was 6 dumplings in the bowl. For the stewed beef wonton soup there was 5 wontons and 5 pieces of stewed beef. Both broths had good flavor but we were very thirsty after eating the noodle bowl. I wonder if they use MSG in the broths. The stewed beef was not very tendered. If they cooked the beef pieces for about one hour longer, it can be good. The stewed beef flavor was weak. I don't recommend their stewed beef dishes. The dumplings and wontons were about the same sizes. They were decent size. My complain was that there was no shrimp in the dumplings at all. I got about half small shrimp piece in each wonton. So if you are like me who like shrimps in your wontons or dumplings, go with wontons. I do like that I got two bunches of bok choi in each of the noodle bowl. The noodle was decent with chewy texture.

Yelp
In the old Good Taste spot across from PCC, the brick Asian courtyard's YK BBQ's $16 House Special Chow Fun is super, on the pricey side but it's a hefty portion enough for 1.5-2 meals, dry fried (gravy avail) with a good dose of proteins 5 large shrimp, 7-8 pcs of large tender slices beef, 5+pcs chicken and BBQ pork. Beansprouts were still snappy as was onion, favorably lending just enough spicy zing, it's hard to truly stop eating when the first signs of fullness appear. Give yourself a few minutes and your chopsticks will wantingly dive back in! Without his go-to Kung Pao Chicken on the menu, hubby was delighted with his substitute and states he'd willingly give the Kung Pao a miss again for this chow fun! 5/5 3.5/5 $13.50 Roast Duck over egg noodles with broth on the side came with 5pcs including part of the wing without the tip. Lean and moist but disappointed in the flavor of the roast, less 5-spice and more soy, and missing something? that makes the unique signature Chinese roast duck sing. Got a solo cup of hoisin based duck sauce when I asked for plum sauce, and again not the best blend. Pure Spice still owns my title for fave, to date. A very healthy portion of Thin egg noodles come topped with 2 pcs of baby bok choy and a peppery chicken/pork? clear broth served piping hot on the side that was yummy. Complimentary Pot of very flavorful creamy tasting dark Chinese tea arrives with your menus. The hot chili paste in the stainless pot was very spicy, Fēicháng là, beware! With a curry, excellent chow fun, congee and noodle soups on the menu, will surely return but will stick to PSpice for the duck ;)

Yelp
On our continuing quest to find the best Cantonese noodle soup in the Portland area, we tried the Yang Kee BBQ Noodle House (formerly a Good Taste). Quintessential sterile hole-in-the-wall in a strip mall with limited tight parking. What I believe may be the lowest price for these dishes in Porrland earns this place 4 stars. Good clean broth, nice chewy noodle and a couple of pieces of fresh bok choy too. Where these dishes fell short was the tenderness and flavor of the stewed beef, and the lack of shrimp in both the won tons and the dumplings. The roast duck, roast pork, and bbq pork hanging in the front window looked tempting so next time, we might try these meats and maybe get this place up to 5 stars? You go here for low cost food and authenticity, not ambiance and service.

Yelp
We ordered G08 燒臘雙拼 Any 2 Choices of the Above $35: We chose G02 Good Taste Roasted Duck & G03 Good Taste BBQ Pork. Not realizing it's actually cost $2 more by doing it this way than if we were to just order G02 $17 (half a duck) and G03 BBQ Pork $16 = $33 instead of ordering two of the above of $35. What made it even more outrageous was that they served us 1/4 of the duck and a few pieces of the BBQ Pork as shown on the picture. Told the server the portion can't be right for the price. She said that is the right portion. That is paying more than double by ordering this way. I asked for the owner. She said owner not in. I said I am going to complain about them. She said go ahead. This is dishonest menu. BBB should be contacted if I had that much energy.

Yelp
The wonton noodle with roast pork was great. They have roast pork and roast duck too. This place is very authentic Chinese food. They have pictures on the menu. The staff was very nice the parking lot was very small with many businesses here I will return to try other menu items

Yelp
Not easy to find this place, as the entrance to the little strip mall is on Harrison, off SE 82nd. The premises are clean and welcoming. We went on a Sunday morning shortly after opening, and it was 80% full. Wanted to get our won ton fix and also get some bbq. The wonton noodle bowl is a great value at $10, huge, enough for two easily. We also wanted duck and roast pork (crispy skin pork), but a bbq order of 2 items would run $40, so a better option is to order the rice plate combo for $16, enough meat for two people. The wonton broth was very good, noodles lacked a bit of spring-iness, and wontons as mentioned in other reviews lacked some flavor (shrimp). Duck was very flavorful and roast pork was very good. We saw two big roast pigs being prepared for take-out (they run over $400 each by special order), so this place must have a loyal following. Service was very friendly. I speak Cantonese chinese, but noticed that English speaking customers also got good service also. Menu has good variety of items, will have to come back for lunch and even dinner for a casual, inexpensive Cantonese chinese meal!

Yelp
The noodles and bbq pork are great with good portions but I'm not a fan of the local radio station they selected tonight. Rap music ? Really? They must be confused with their identity. Authentic food yeah but wannabe totally. I think some Chinese music would attract people who want an authentic experience. The rap music was a huge distraction. I couldn't wait to leave.

Yelp
This is now my go to place for roast duck wonton noodle soup. It has been under new ownership for four years now and this is the first time I've been able to try it out. The won tons in the soup was superbly better than any other place I've ever had. Most places they're won tons are mediocre but theirs are made very well. The duck was very good and the only thing I would say needs improving is getting more bok choy in my order.
google avatar

Yelp
I have been coming here through the past decade and regardless of the name and ownership, one thing is certain: this kitchen is always spot on. I'm a sucker for the bbq pork in any dish. The dumplings make my mouth water just thinking of them. The broth is spot on every single time. If you want authentic, you'll find it here.
google avatar

Stalone H.

Yelp
If you want quick and decent Chinese food, this place is the perfect grab and go with large portions. They specialize in Chinese BBQ meats served over rice but also have different noodle options as well. It's not the best, but also not the worst.

Carl W.

Yelp
Bbq pork was so dry I thought it was almost a jerky . Roast duck has no taste . Rice is hard and soup is salty. Way over priced for this quality of food that seemed like it was from yesterday and they reheated everything! . Duck was mostly bone couldn't even finish my meal.
google avatar

Lynda P.

Yelp
They have the best service, the best roasted pig, the best barbecue duck, the best boiled chicken, the best food ever in Portland. Too bad they don't open late on the weekend.

Yelp
Finally gave this place a try! Ordered three dishes for take-out on Mother's Day and paid $36.00 - Beef Chow Fun with bean sprout $12 - Steamed Chicken with Ginger Sauce (half) $12 - Good Taste Stewed Beef $12 Called around 4:30pm and was told to come pick up in 15 minutes. Arrived about 15 minutes and the food was already bagged and waiting for me. I stayed a bit to check out their hanging meat items. Chatted with the lady for a bit and paid. Friendly service and she was quite informative (thank you)! We dived right in to the noodles. My first impression: a bit on the oily end. The chicken was next: tasty, but slightly oily. Stewed beef was last: probably was my favorite out of the three dishes - however, portion was small. After one round of picking per person (just the three of us) and I felt like it was nearly empty. Given it was all meat... but did not feel like there was much for $12. Overall, we all thought the food were pretty tasty, we liked it. We did thought the dishes were a bit oily and portion sizes could improve. Might not order the same stuff again, but would like to try their roast pork and BBQ pork next. They accept credit cards and cash. Parking in this plaza is a bit tight. Be careful!

Yelp
I've been coming to this wonderful place for 10 years now, for the wonton soup, roasted pork and roasted duck. They never disappoint. The wontons are made fresh everyday, with little shrimp and pork. The most delicious thing ever. The roasted duck has stayed the same beautifully cooked and juicy. I'll add that it's the best in town and I've eaten duck almost everywhere. The service is okay, it's straight forward. The ambiance is just like any other Chinese restaurant like a mom and pop place. I love this place cause they haven't strayed from quality and stayed the with the same menu. It went up in price a little but that is just inflation but it's still affordable. Highly recommend. Good hidden gem.
google avatar

Yelp
Great food! Didn't disappoint!! The meat is tender, the noodles are tasty, and the wonton, which is hand-made, was very smooth!

Yelp
My husband and I love this place! I craved this place my whole pregnancy and I still love it. The portions are big, tasty and authentic. The duck soup is flavorful and my favorite item there. Must try this place if you want authentic food.

Yelp
I miss Fong Chung but this is the best breakfast I have had in a while. Roast pig was crisp and delicious - and this was the morning after Thanksgiving. Char Shu was moist and flavorful. Looking forward to my noodles and barbecued pork fried rice later

Yelp
For Chinese BBQ and noodles in PDX, this is as good as it gets. Good quality for reasonable prices. Here is how it scored: Beef stew meat on dry noodles: 5/5 the really make a great gnow nom. Beef chow fun: 4/5 solid but a little greasy Beef congee: 4/5 pretty good My new go to place for Cantonese BBQ. Check it out

Yelp
This bring me back to Sam Woo BBQ. If you are from LA. You know what I am talking about. I ordered 2lb roasted pork and half a duck and they are delicious

Yelp
Authentic at it's finest. Huge portions, great prices, and Chinese customers reflecting so. My boyfriend and I are ABCs and felt like we were the only ones that were speaking English lol. Delicious and did I mention huge portions? I ordered the roasted pork noodle with soup on the side and was enough to last me 4 meals. It was so good. My boyfriend ordered the cartilage, stewed beef, and wonton noodle soup and absolutely loved it. If I lived in Portland, this place would be my go to!
google avatar

Yelp
Very good food unfortunately that doesn't make up for the extremely bad service. Won't be dining in anytime soon. Takeout, maybe.

Yelp
First time trying Yang Kee and we are blown away by the authenticity of the food and Canton flavor and the huge portion with affordable prices!! Wish we live closer to order it more often. Service is what you would expect in a typical Chinese restaurant (a little loud, a little blunt), but as my husband smiles and says "good food covers a multitudes of sins" and you know it's that good when at 2:30pm/3pm, the restaurant is still busy with customers dining in and taking out. We ordered chicken with ginger sauce over rice and wonton soup with roasted pork, and a half roasted duck (not in the picture) to go!
google avatar

Yelp
"Underrated Hidden Gem in Oregon" Yang Kee is one of those places only locals know about and fly under the radar. You only have to sit on the inside and realize this place is authentic pretty quickly. You see the regulars flow through and line up for orders on the weekend. Ordered- 1. Beef Congee: Delicious and warming to the soul (5/5) 2. Scrambled Eggs & BBQ Pork over Rice: Great flavor and consistency a little cold (4/5) 3. Salt and Pepper Squid: Flavorful but fried in old oil, a little burnt (3/5) Pros: + Good Pricing + Great Food + Friendly Atmosphere Area of Improvement - Serve meals fresh - Replace frying oil routinely - Maybe play some music

Yelp
My son and I went to this restaurant in the morning of October 9th at approximately 10:30-10:45 am. We ordered 2 bowls of N7. Wonton Noodle soup with roasted pork. We tried and my son really liked it. But not too long he found a hair (the photo attached) in his bowl, mine was fine. I told a lady, who's standing at the front chopping the meat, that my son found a hair. She asked if he wanted a new bowl. Yes he said. She took his bowl back to the kitchen, and not even 5 minutes, she brought his bowl back. But it's not new bowl. It's the same bowl she took but they just changed the soup. How we knew? The Chinese broccoli my son bit was still there in the NEW bowl. My son didn't want to argue but I thought this is not right. The hair he found is definitely from the lower part of human body. I didn't want to imagine. I asked the lady why she didn't cook him a new bowl. She said it's new bowl. I'm sorry but why the Chinese broccoli was bitten. My son ended up not to continue eating. We didn't want to argue with her. We paid the full price of 2 bowls $26. The reason I'm writing the review is to let the owner or employees to take accountability on what was wrong. I'm not the person who goes to all restaurants or businesses and tries to look for the mistakes and write the bad reviews. But this is not right. You have to apologize, fix it right and be honest to all customers. I didn't even hear she said sorry to us. I'm sorry we definitely won't go back to this place.

Mimi K.

Yelp
Supporting small businesses during these hard times is what we have to do..however, the experience that we encountered today is unbelievable. The uncleanliness, food quality, and service is appalling! I think you'll be better off going to Kenny's or fortune bbq. When we were leaving we overheard a lady who ordered takeout arguing about the listed charges and how much she was over charged.

Victor P.

Yelp
This review is for dine-in only. I believe their to-go is better. Not only do they charge higher prices for dining in (understandable) but they also give worse cuts of meat as well. If you do not see them cut the meat, they will give you older cuts that have dried out and are not crispy. I purposely go to Chinese bbq places to get the crispy pork and was excited to try this place out. When we ordered 3 plates of meat we were given a very substandard product compared to those who ordered to-go because they could pick and choose their cuts of meat. The fact that they tried to pass off substandard cuts of meat at a higher price to dine-in customers is dishonest and shows a poor level of quality and customer service. The roasted pork portion had little skin and was mostly dry lean meat. The little skin that was served was soggy and became chewy. I also do not recommend the char siu as it was extremely dry and flavorless. On a positive note, the roasted duck was very flavorful and well seasoned however it was extremely cold. Overall we spent around $80 for 2 people and left most of it uneaten. I want to reiterate again that this review is for dine-in only and you will probably have a much better experience ordering to-go and selecting a fresher cut of meat that is still hot and crispy.

Yelp
Showcase by the door with ducks and other barbecued meat, I got the duck noodles wonton soup. Mild broth, TON of noodles, ample wontons and some nice pieces of duck. Mike and Abbey went with noodle dishes--loved the crispy fried ones--each of which had enough noodles for two more people. Large portions, fair prices. Abby's diced pork sweet with a little heat. I appreciated the good range of condiments at the table. And service was super attentive and friendly.

Yelp
This place has gone through a couple name changes but the menu always stays the same. One of Portland's best hole in the walls, Yang Kee is the place to go for Chinese food. I haven't found a place that makes better wonton noodle soup. The barbecue meat additions are also amazing, and everything is still reasonably affordable considering how restaurants in Portland keep getting more and more expensive. If you're not feeling a light, flavorful bowl of wonton noodle soup, you can always opt for family style dishes to share with your group. I always get N7, which is wonton noodle soup with roasted pork. The pork skin somehow stays crunchy and it doesn't change the flavoring of the soup. This place also has really good chili oil on the side.

Karen K.

Yelp
I spent 30 years looking for good chow fun or even ANY chow fun in this town. Found it here. A miracle! I drive 30 minutes each way. Worth every mile.

Yelp
I came here on a weekday at around 4PM, ordered a super bowl A with flat wide noodles on the phone before I went to pick it up, took about just ten minutes. The BBQ pork and duck were super flavorful and I really enjoyed it, but the roast pork was a bit dry. The wontons were well-flavored too but the wrap was a bit thick on the bottom. It could've done with more vegetables also. Soup was light and flavorful, could've done with more of it though, noodles were a bit dry without enough soup. The noodles were a bit soft but that could be as a result of takeout. All in all pretty good, the bowl is super big too so share it with a friend! $14.50 for it, not bad at all.

Yelp
OMG. Been looking for a great Cantonese place FOREVER! This is it. Clearly they got all the components of a Chinese place with the hot case and all the available dishes. I'm going to eat here again, and again, and again. Can't wait take some of the roasted stuff home.

Yelp
Steamed chicken and roasted pork is always fresh and so soft, they never disappoint, I've been coming here for years now and I will continue to support their business! Thank you!

Yelp
If you're looking for a great affordable Cantonese BBQ restaurant this is it. The noodles are great. Wonton noodles. Chow fun. All the BBQ meats are great...roast pork, BBQ pork and roast duck

Yelp
Hong Kong style food handmade fresh noodles. They do party platters and the takeout is terrific the restaurant Is playing but the food is yummy Yum

Yelp
Yang Kee is in the space where So Good Taste Noodle House used to be in this strip mall. I was heartbroken when So Good Taste closed during the pandemic because they had the best wontons in town. Recently I drove pass the strip mall and saw the neon open sign and gasped! I was very excited to see the space open and that another Cantonese restaurant had opened in the same spot. I went in to check about the menu and the woman working there was very nice. The menu is very similar to SGT and my first meal there didn't disappoint. I didn't get any pics of it because I ate it so quickly. The wonton soup was just as good as SGT & I'm happy to say my broken heart is mended! We also got the roasted duck with egg noodles. Great portions! Will be back to try out more.

Yelp
I got the Wonton Noodle soup. While I miss So Good Taste and will accept no substitute, I will say that it was solid / pretty good. The wontons were on point. The noodles were good. The broth was good, salty without being too much. The bok choi was fair. So that's a breakdown of the elements of the soup that I ate. Pretty good!

Yelp
Delicious. This Chinese restaurant is tucked away in a fabulous little strip mall on SE 82nd and Harrison. Find IT! They specialize in delicious noodles, won tons and of course BBQ Pork and Duck. Savory, delicious and honestly so cheap your wallet will demand you go back again and again. The best Chinese meats restaurant in the City. Go now, you will be glad you did!

Yelp
What a place! We stopped since it was outside Portland enough I could get my rv there and we were not disappointed. Small place but what a menu it was hard to pick one thing to get. Ended up with the house wontons that were amazing and tomato beef on fried noodles that was equally as good and one portion of the noodles is easily enough for two. I'll be making the stop again when I'm in Portland, so for my sake, for your sake and for the love of god go get some noodles.
