This has been on our to go list for a long time now. So decided to try it for our anniversary.
Ambience and decor were extraordinary. The doors had mirror glass and the wall had some exquisite show pieces which when combined with the lighting added a regal feeling to the decor. Service was good. Waiters were quick to take orders and we're flexible. Was a bit scared on reading online reviews earlier but staff were very friendly, no issues there.
We went for the Experience menu. Let's talk about the starters. Achappam, Benarasi Chaat. It felt like there was a lot of potential but the starters fell short. Presentation was good but I expected even more. Tandoori chicken I felt could have seriously been elevated with a dash of some chutney or sauce. I'm no chef but as someone who has tried out degustation menus at many places, I think I can say this with some confidence. Why so stingy and serve with only chopped onion tomato.
Same for Lotus Shammi kebab. It tasted really well but could have been paired well with some chutney. ( They forgot the Shammi kebab and had to be reminded but got it quickly once told). Aloo natkhat was good. Also came with some sauce.
Now moving to Soup and main course. This is where they seriously elevated their game. Shirazi Bharta and Jowar roti were mind-blowing. And the soup was finger licking good. Cheesy, right amount of hot, and had a peppery taste, not too bland.
Malabar medley in veg mains again was good. They could have served a bit more of rice. Same for the fish curry. Rice was very limited. And the fish curry was a bit too spicy, made me cough ... And also a bit too smelly.
Now to the final mains - Garlic naan and methi chaman paneer. I thought it was fantastic. The spinach wasn't entirely ground and it was a tad bit sweet. I loved the garlic naan too, I think this has to be one of the best I've had in Singapore. ( Just a while back I was blaming some of the starters and their mains, extreme experiences here )
The missus didn't like the Methi Paneer (she's not a fan of leafy greens esp when not ground fully).
Moving to dessert - Gulab Jamun cheesecake. A welcome shift from the over sweet cakes, here was one authentic to the Gulab Jamun. Wasn't too sweet and you could feel the Gulab Jamun in your bite. And yogurt and honey and some fruits. They also got a small carrot cake with a candle for the anniversary, appreciate the gesture.
They suggested we finish with the Paan chocolate. I didn't taste any Paan in it but I'm not complaining. Haven't been a big Paan fan anyway.
Overall I think they have to elevate their game in starters.
And when I compare with the likes of Amakase, Firangi Superstar, Revolver which I've been to - I'd have to say a bit overpriced for what they delivered.
