Yat Tung Heen

"The dining room boasts dark wood panels and moody lighting, which is refreshingly different from its formerly conventional décor. Since 1990, the kitchen team has been creating traditional but refined Cantonese fare that highlights the ingredients’ natural tastes. Dim sum, barbecued meats, stir-fries and slow-cooked soups are hugely popular. Regulars also order the abalone and bird’s nest set menu for their banquet dinners in the private rooms." - Michelin Inspector

A very nice Dim Sum place. Can eat in peace without feeling cramped and sharing table with strangers unlike many good food places in HK. You really pay for the ambience. The food is very nice, not extremely exceptional, but very nice. Came on a weekday 11am and there was already a crowd waiting outside. All rushed in the moment the door opens. Tip: place your order quickly the moment you sit down, you can always order more later, so just order a few dim sum dishes first so that you don't have to wait too long before the food arrives to your table. Then while eating Dim Sum, you can slowly browse the menu looking at other dishes like Crab Vermicelli or Dongbo Meat.

I came here for dinner expecting Michelin-level dishes. The appetisers were quite enjoyable—the seafood was fresh and springy. However, the signature Crispy Roasted Peking Duck was extremely underwhelming. While the skin was crispy, it lacked flavour, and the meat was disappointingly dry. In my opinion, it’s the worst Peking Duck I’ve ever had. That said, the interior was tastefully done, and the service staff were attentive throughout the evening. Overall, while the food is edible, it falls far short of Michelin standards.

Ordered the set menu. Fancy ingredients, familiar flavors but with a modern twist, solid presentation, overall a great fine dining experience. Unfortunately I was waiting for the suckling pig but the waiter forgot to put in the order. The restaurant manager gave us free extra desserts as an apology though! Great ambiance.

This is one of those few award winning Restaurants in HK, that live up to their reputation and really serve an array of rather delicious Cantonese cuisines, especially their Dim Sum spread. The restaurant was filled even on their first seating at 11am on a Monday when we last patronized them for brunch, but luckily, we did a reservation weeks before, else we could have been slapped with a long waiting time. Enjoyed their Steamed Pork Dumplings With Fresh Scallop (Aka Siew Mai). Each dumpling had filling that was bursting with rich flavours, from a good mixture of minced pork, shrimp, mushroom and others. Texture was soft and slightly chewy overall. The Scallop on the top added a briny sea flavour. Deep-Fried Taro Puffs With Assorted Seafood was well fried thus boasted a Crispy crust, yielding to soft, creamy and savory taro with seafood filling. It was good, but i preferred it with traditional fillings of just taro with mushrooms & cantonese sausage. Wok-Fried Turnip Puddings with XO Sauce had strong umami flavours from dried shrimps and mushrooms, with good bite texture due to its crispy exterior and soft interior. Fried Wontons With Sweet And Sour Sauce was one of my favourite dish. Loved the Perfectly fried thin crispy crunchy wonton skin and its shrimp filling. Presserved Egg With Minced Pork Congee, which we were unable to find it listed in their menu, was ordered via the Service Staff. Its a good dish just like their Deep-Fried Custard Buns, but both were not impressive, even though they have all the elements (Flavours, Texture and balance of ingredients). We also tried two of their Vegetarian Dishes, consisting of Steamed Rice Rolls With Vegetables, Mushrooms and Elm Fungus was surprising good, in terms of flavours and bite texture, especially after its drenched with ‘Special’ light soy sauce. Another vegetarian dish was their Deep-Fried Bean Curd Sheet Rolls Stuffed With Tee Tree Mushrooms and well, it had distinctive flavours of the mushroom and crispy crunchy bite texture of the Bean Curd Sheet Rolls. Overall, other than their food, we were also delighted with the attentiveness and efficiency of their service staffs, as compared to other local restaurants of similar level. Restaurants had a modern cosy vibe, spacious and comfortable to dine in, except for access to the restaurant… do take the lift down to the restaurant, instead of using the staircase.

Long overdue review of the horrible service I received here. Made a reservation to have Michelin Star dimsum on 1/20/25 during my short trip to Hong Kong as my previous meal here was delicious. We were shown to the back room where there were two other tables of tourists (not sure if this matters but I speak fluent Cantonese). The waiter (I was so mad I didn’t get his name but it was a middle aged man with glasses) was the worst I’ve encountered in Hong Kong at a fine dining establishment. He kept checking on every table around me except ours. He did not clear our plates or refill our hot water. We were sitting there for so long I was able to take a picture of our messy table. The food was decent but there is definitely better elsewhere. The best part was when I asked him for white pepper/a condiment and he replied to me “the kitchen is very far, I have to go get it” with a nasty attitude. I asked him if he wants me to go get it myself instead? Ridiculous! Where does the food come out from if not the kitchen? The restroom? I can’t wait to leave and pay the bill… surprise surprise, the waiter is nowhere to be found. He disappeared for 15+ minutes and I couldn’t wait any longer. I go to the front desk and ask for the check. The waiter suddenly appears chasing after us and says we MUST pay in the room. I finally pay and the bill was over $1000 HKD + 10% mandatory service charge. I asked to speak to the manager on my way out and he was apologetic and nice. However the damage was done. I will never be returning or recommend this place to any friends or family.

Google
I probably have an unpopular take and a little conflicted as I write this. I would have rated this place 3.5 stars if I could but the Michelin-star expectations and its price point is why I rounded it down to 3. I do not think this place deserves a Michelin star. I think it devalues the Michelin stars awarded tbh. I know there are reviews that say this is their favorite of HK Michelin-starred dim sum places but I don’t have a comparison against those. I just know that I’ve been to places with one Michelin star that are not in HK that are more deserving. That said, we had a 2:30pm reservation on a Friday and the place was half empty. There were no earlier reservations available. The service was not particularly attentive or pleasant for a Michelin-starred place. The food was not much better than a non-Michelin-starred place. The shumai was fine but had plenty better for less elsewhere. The crispy chicken was well done but again, have had better elsewhere. The beef chow fun had maybe 4 pieces of beef in it and was a bit of an oily soggy mess, no wok hei at all. I will admit that the roasted pork belly was delicious. The Maybe I ordered all the wrong things but I was just left wondering what all the fuss is about.

My first stop in Hong Kong. The food was very tasty. I liked everything except the taro balls. The taro balls were very mushy on the inside. I didn’t like the texture or the flavor. The buns were sweet, but I believe that is because I am not used to sweet buns. But a lot of places I have visited in other Asian countries have sweeter bread than the United States. The third photo with the scallops. OMG, they were so good! Same goes for the second-to-last photo! Amazing. Would 100% recommend booking.

Google
Great service, easy to make reservations. Staff were attentive and constantly checked in, refilling tea. We were here for a Saturday brunch, got a mix of dimsum and signature roasted meats including char siew and goose. Would highly recommend the melt in your mouth char siew, have never had char siew cooked this soft and tender before! Dimsum and Cheung fans were well executed, individual dimsum contained generous ingredients with its freshness really shining through. Must go!

Yelp
Yat Tung Herb is an authentic Cantonese Chinese fine dining restaurant in HOng Kong China for a long time!! Michelin has been awarded for many years with star restaurant.... This time I celebrated my birthday dinner with a few closer friends and also had a Osaka Cheese cake from Air thru Japan!! There were a few crispy dishes poultry from very traditional Chicken and duck presentation!! And also had classic boring soups from marinated pork diced and pumpkins.... Grill Eel, crispy pork belly and marinated tofu paste... Most dishes were very popular for birthday wishes in greetings with best wishes !!! Yat Tung services were so excellent and exceptional helping us for cake presentation... Of course, decorations and atmosphere from Yat Tung Heen was very elegant and contemporary warming style!!

Yelp
Amazing dim sum at a reasonable price that well deserves its Michelin star! There's no shortage of dim sum here in HK, but this one stands out with amazing service and delicious foods that are both traditional but innovative. It's obviously more expensive than just going to a roadside stall, but if you're visiting from the US, then the prices are approximately what you would find over there. My favorite things here were the rice rolls with barbecue pork, the deep fried custard buns, and the cherry tomatoes. The rice rolls were super soft and silky and they were completely filled with tender fatty pork. I loved the amount of meat and it was just a solid rendition of a dim sum classic. The deep fried custard buns were extremely good. They tasted fresh out of the fryer, so the crispy exterior contrasted very well with the soft pillowing interior. The custard wasn't too sweet and had a bit of saltiness and richness like from salted egg yolk. Surprisingly, one of my favorite things here was the chilled tomatoes marinated with preserved plum juice which was from the a la carte menu and not the dim sum menu. I never understood how people are blown away by tomatoes, but this place changed my mind. The cherry tomatoes were peeled leaving only the soft juicy flesh, and the flavor was a perfect balance of sweet and sour. Each tomato was a juice bomb and the light freshness helped pair with all of the dim sum.

Yelp
In HK to visit family friends and we were deciding on a place to eat. Looked at the Michelin guide and found this restaurant. It was easy to book day of and the time we wanted was available. The staff was extremely kind and the atmosphere was very nice. Comfortable seating and spacious. The one main issue I had was the bathroom. We were one of the first guests so the toilet seats were down. Upon raising two of them I unfortunately viewed some not so great things which was uncomfortable and really set a bad tone and memory for the remainder of the evening. The bathroom itself was overall clean minus those two toilets. Definitely surprising for an establishment of this caliber. Now onto the food of course, amazing duck, bbq pork, clay pot dishes, and many great options to choose from. The duck came out for pictures and then was taken back to help serve. As usual, you are given the wraps and side garnishes. The duck was cooked to a good temperature and some pieces still had a little pink which was good. The restaurant was mostly filled for a random Wednesday night. Would recommend this place for others. I would also like to try dim sum here too as I've heard it's quite good as well!

Yelp
Yat Tung Heen is a One Michelin Star restaurant in Hong Kong. They have 4 Michelin awards displayed on their wall when we visited. There are so many Michelin Star or Michelin Guide restaurants in this city that it's hard to pick and choose which one to eat at when you visit. Yat Tung Heen just stood out for me and I knew I had to eat here. It was a little hidden but when we finally found them and entered the restaurant, the place is well designed and upscale. A bit dim but still very elegant. One could say it's rather fancy for a Chinese restaurant. The staff were extremely friendly and the restaurant wasn't crazy loud like at other Chinese restaurants. We were escorted to our seats and even the space we had to dine on was grand. It was very spacious. We had a personal server and he spoke very good English on top of Chinese. Mink and I ordered various items that stood out to us and took the recommendation of ordering Char Siu from our server. Typically I never order that at a Chinese restaurant but he recommended it and I'm so glad he did. It was seriously some of the best Char Siu I've ever had in my life. The other menu items we ordered were also delicious. I did order a bottle of sake and it was nice he kept refilling my glass each time it was empty. Once, early in the meal, I refilled myself since I was thirsty and he noticed so for the rest of the meal, he kept up to my drinking. I appreciated that. Solid restaurant and must try if you're in Hong Kong.

Yelp
This place is located at the bottom level of the Eaton Hotel. The ambiance and decor is fine dining, but not intimidating in terms of dress code (I walked in with jeans). I specifically came for the dim sum special (prices are lower), which is only available at a certain time. When I walked in, I felt out of place - dim sum has always been a casual thing, and this made it upscale. I was a bit hesitant, but the service made me feel at ease. All of the staff were helpful, kind, and very friendly. Luckily, we came at a time where a seat for two were available alongside the back of one of the rooms. I had a view of the dining room, which was lovely. The dim sum was very good - it wasn't super traditional, but I really appreciated the twists that were added, and it was delicious. We tried: - Steamed Fresh Shrimp Dumplings with Sweet Corn - Chilled Cucumber with Black Fungus (highly recommend) - Golden Fried Diced Beancurd with Salted Egg Yolk and Crispy Garlic - Steamed Rice Rolls with Shrimp, Coriander and Scallion - Wok-fried Turnip Puddings with XO Sauce What I was most excited about was that the a la carte menu had two drinks that I knew I had to try - the Earl Grey Cold Brew Sparkling Tea (not sweet) and the Sparkling White Peach Earl Grey (slightly sweet). They were awesome, and served in wine glasses, which made it feel more special. I had such a great experience that I came again with my Mom!

Yelp
Walked in impressed with the restaurant's interior. It's a fine dining setting but don't be intimidated it's just as casual as many other dim sum places. It's also spacious and less noisy. Food was also served without waiting too long. For 1 Michelin starred dim sum place it is well deserved. Plus the price is reasonable without sacrificing the quality of food. Highly recommended for the Har Gao (shrimp dumpling) this is the best I've had by far. I give this place 5 * Forgot to take pictures of some of the food... So I'll have to come back again

Yelp
The food is really good and the service is attentive. But, what really makes this place special is that it is spacious and quiet near one of the busiest shopping areas in the world. Take a break and be taken care of. The restaurant is in the basement of a hotel with an entrance just off Nathan Road. Take the lift. There are a surprising number of steps down. We were greeted, taken to our table, which was very well appointed. Unlike other dim sum places with the ladies taking and the carts clanking, this one gives you the chance to exhale -- without worrying about social distancing. My telltale dim sum item is always the shrimp. Here it is done perfectly. Loved the taro puffs and the filling in the pork buns is devine. I plan to return.

Yelp
Overall: Decent dim sum with 1 Michelin star w/ hits and misses. Good value, excellent service, elegant ambiance. Deserves a 4.1. Food: -Hits: har gau (fresh shrimp w/ soft skin), XO sauce turnip cake (perfectly crispy), baked char siu bao, and lotus wrapped glutinous rice -Misses: siu Mai (disappointing despite the scallop on top!), chicken feet (little flavor), 干炒牛河 (not enough flavor), 生煎包 (no soup!) Service was courteous and great.

Yelp
Great food and service. BBQ pork can melt in your mouth. The Mango pudding has mix of sour and sweet and gradually come out with the taste level change

Yelp
This Michelin one star is located in a hotel basement of Eaton HK. I highly recommend to stay at the hotel, they offer great discount for the restaurants. Dim sum was one of the best I have ever had. I loved their barbecue pork buns the most. They were made with soft buns, it was crusty with brown sugar on the top and moist and tasty inside. It was so good I had to get more of it. I loved their tea as well. Their service was fantastic. I miss it a lot!

Yelp
Very hard to book michelin recomended dim sum place, but they usually have a few tables open on weekday mornings at 11am. The selection is very traditional - har gow, siu mai, xo cheung fun and xiao long bao - all were okay, but nothing to rave about. We did love the baked bbq char siu buns though, those were extremely crispy and flavorful. Our favorites were actually the hot dishes - fried tofu and bombay style fish. The ambiance and environment here is nice, but keep in mind that the booking is only for 90 minutes, which can feel a bit rushed for dim sum if you wanted to drink a couple more cups of tea.

Yelp
After eating at Yat Tung Heen I now have an answer when I am asked the question: where is your favorite dim sum restaurant in Hong Kong. The dim sum here is fantastic and sticks to the more traditional. Everything I had was delicious and executed very well. The price is in line with peer restaurants in HK at a similar quality level. The Michelin guide is really hit or miss with me with respect to Chinese restaurants. However Yat Tung Heen deserves its star. Food: 4.5 stars Service/environment: 4 stars Overall: 4.25 stars Recommendations: chair shiu rice roll, shrimp egg roll, grouper over steamed egg, shrimp dumpling If there is one dish that is a bellwether for a dim sum place it's the shrimp dumpling. It's on every restaurant's menu and is pretty much always ordered. The version here is really first rate. Wrapper nicely steamed and the right thickness. Shrimp and bamboo delicate and delicious. The rice roll is also really outstanding here. They really know how to make the roll in way that melts in your mouth. Also, I would definitely order the egg roll here. The egg roll when executed poorly is a greasy mess. The egg roll here has a nice balance between shrimp and skin and has a marvelous crunch to it. Definitely give the dim sum here it's worth spending a little extra for the quality.

Yelp
We enjoyed our meal here. The venue and ambiance were quite nice and the food was good. Our favorites were the deep fried egg plant and the fried wonton with sweet and sour sauce. Both were fried perfectly with the right about of seasoning, key for fried foods. The har gow, siu mai, and xiao long also weren't bad. Yelp
Located at the bottom floor of the Eaton, I came to this Michelin-starred restaurant when I had a lunch moment that my friends or family were unable to join. Since I stayed at this hotel, I did get a little bit of a discount, which was nice. The place was very quiet, as I arrived around opening time. The decor is a bit stale, but still elegant. While you probably don't have to dress up, I came in business casual, as opposed to having the temptation of coming down straight from my hotel room after just rolling out of bed in my pjs. The starter of salty fried little fish was a good touch to get the appetite going. I could have eaten a whole box of these crunchy savory delights. However, I wasn't here for glorified bar snacks, especially ones that were charged separately (but they were so good that I let it pass). Dim sum here is a la carte, so don't expect the loud and lively cart service. The shrimp rice roll (蝦腸) was excellent, as the rice noodle was thin and delicate, and the shrimp was cooked just right. Likewise, the shrimp dumplings (蝦餃) provided a refined experience in the month. Quality ha gow has a thin skin that manages to hold shrimp that is juicy and flavorful. This one definitely checks off the marks. The siu mai (燒賣) was a bit of a luxurious taste that I'm not accustomed to seeing with these open faced pork dumplings. Each dumpling had scallop on top, covering the pork. It provided a more decadent flavor. Lastly, the mini egg tarts (蛋撻) had a nice flaky crust, with a smooth and balanced egg filling inside. The only major aspect I can complain about the food was the presentation. While it's clean and orderly, there's not much color to the food. The siu mai could've used something on top of that scallop. Maybe a touch of tobiko roe to give it some color? If I'm paying $35 USD for one person (albeit I ate like a champ) for dim sum, I can whine a bit about the presentation. I have to admit, this is one of the stronger dim sum experiences I had one my trip. While the atmosphere is more refined and the experience was more comfortable than Tim Ho Wan, you get a better value at THW with dim sum that can match. However, the service at Yat Tung Heen is excellent, with very attentive and polite service. You'll have your tea refilled and empty plates/baskets removed promptly. Yeah, Yat Tung Heen is a bit of a hidden spot, but come here if you want to get out of the sun and get some fancy-schmancy dim sum.

Yelp
This restaurant is located in the basement. This is a high end restaurant located inside the Eaton hotel. Prices here is on the higher end. Very expensive for 4 people, came up to closer to $700 HKD ish. Dim sum wise is that it's very yummy and very unique. Lots of work has been put into making the dim sum. Desert is free here. I got the tofu pudding and it's very smooth. Decor is nice here but because it's located in the basement, there is no window. Service is good here too. I enjoy dining here. Location is close to Jordan MTR and its surrounded by lots of stores and restaurant and hotel near by. Thumbs up to this restaurant!
