Pear Pressure Made Me Do It -- #YellowBrickPizza (#TheElliot)
LOCATION:
415 W. Rich St., Franklinton, Columbus
Last time I came to Yellow Brick, The Flying Pig and that cheesy bread came for my whole life. I left impressed, satisfied, and ready to plan a round two. This time, I switched it up and gave The Elliot a shot -- and well... let's talk.
THE ORDER:
Half The Elliot -- salt & pepper, thyme, light mozzarella, pears, bacon, shaved parmesan, honey, and an olive oil drizzle
Half custom -- pepperoni, sausage, banana peppers
THE CRUST CHECK:
Still consistent. Crispy, a little flaky, and rocking that subtle char on the bottom. Wood-fired or not, the bite is solid.
THE ELLIOT EXPERIENCE:
I came in open-minded -- knowing this wasn't a crowd favorite and also knowing pear isn't exactly my go-to fruit. But I was curious. And to Yellow Brick's credit, it worked better than I expected.
The pear and honey brought that mellow sweetness, the bacon and parmesan added salt, and everything was fresh.
The olive oil drizzle? Cool touch -- added a light, fancy feel.
But it wasn't enough to carry the whole pie.
The marathon continues.
Honestly, it just needed one more hit -- a saltier pop or a spice kick to pull it all together.
Not tasteless, but definitely not leaving skid marks on your taste buds either. Just... mellow.
Rick Ross once said, "I forgot what fruit tasted like. I eat pears now and sh*t like that. Shout out to all the pear."
And listen, I'll give pears a shot -- just not on pizza.
Respect to the fruit... but this ain't how I wanna remember it.
And when your other half (pepperoni, sausage, banana peppers) is out here bold, flavorful, and dependable? The Elliot ends up feeling like the plate you get when everyone else at the table lucked out and you just... didn't.
ABOUT THAT CUSTOM HALF:
Zero surprises. Banana peppers brought their usual zing, and the meat duo came through. If I ordered this full size, I'd have no notes and no regrets.
FRUIT-ON-PIZZA PERSPECTIVE:
Let the record show: I do not fear fruit on pizza. I actually believe pineapple, when done right, deserves a seat at the table. Pear just isn't the one for me -- not outside this very specific recipe. Yellow Brick made it work, but it didn't convert me.
FINAL THOUGHT:
The Elliot is like that guilty pleasure playlist you'd never play on the aux -- thoughtful, quirky, and it might even surprise you... but it's not your go-to. It's fresh, creative, and respectable... just not something I'd reorder. Not when Yellow Brick's got bolder options on deck.
