“Most intentional Smashburger I’ve ever had!” 🫶🏾
I love when a good Google search leads me to a hidden gem, and that’s exactly what Yellow City in Amarillo, TX is. Small town, BIG chef flavors! Every bite felt intentional, from the balance of flavors to the care in presentation. Even the house salad and homemade peach preserves were fresh, vibrant, and thoughtfully crafted. You can tell the chef pours heart and creativity into each dish, making this place stand out in a way that’s rare for small-town dining.
The selection of local beers on tap was also a fantastic touch, really adding to the experience and giving me a taste of Amarillo’s craft scene. It’s clear that Yellow City focuses on celebrating the local community, which adds another layer to the dining experience.
Now, about the famous fish taco – while it didn’t fully meet my expectations (I was hoping for a super crispy batter), the fish itself was flaky and cooked to perfection, which showed the chef’s technique. I would have preferred a thinner tortilla to let the fish and the fantastic sauces take center stage. The sauce, by the way, was abundant – as a sauce lover, I enjoyed every bit of it, but I can see how someone less into sauces might find it a bit much. It’s a small adjustment in an otherwise excellent dish.
Would I come back? ABSOLUTELY! Yellow City offers more than just great food – it’s an intentional dining experience that shows respect for local ingredients and culinary creativity. Can’t wait to try more from the menu next time!
