Google
Yellowfin grill and sushi bar is always an excellent food adventure! The staff are attentive without being overbearing and the food is always top notch. The outdoor seating is very nice and inside has music (a bit loud honestly)

Google
The sushi rolls were average at best. Not worth $16 a roll. The seaweed was old and chewy, more rice than filling, no real distinct flavors.

Jenny Brown

Google
Great service and atmosphere. Heated patio was a fun treat. Don't skip the tempura yams.

Google
Their happy hour is so worth it. This place is so cute and the staff is friendly. The sushi is so good and we loved the coconut shrimp.

Google
We have been going here for a dozen years. We are greeted like family.. How many places have staff that sticks around that long? Food is always great every. single. time . We lived here when our daughter was in her toddler years for Hammertime 3-5 as we lived in walking distance. Never had a bad experience. Get one of their great apps, the Cinco De Mayo 10 piece roll, a cold little sump'n sump'n IPA and some sake 👍

Google
This is such a cute location but unfortunately it is poorly kept…. The floor and tables were sticky, even outside. The bathrooms were not adequately stocked as I had to use watered down soap. And do not get me started on how long it took to get our food. The sushi felt chewy and tasted slimy. Overall not worth the price.

Google
Yellowfinn is a Sugar House gem serving exquisite Japanese food in an environment that exudes major neighborhood pub energy. I don't recall ever feeling more at home or authentically welcomed to a place on my first visit. The menu is about 80% gluten free, so it makes it easy for diners with those issues. I recommend the hamachi nigiri, Utah roll and tempura banana for dessert. The creamesicle saketini is perfect. This is a place you need to try.

We are yellowfinn regulars but tonight will be our last. Our funky roll was completely charred and had nothing in it but rice and a green onion.

Yelp
Fantastic first time at YellowFinn!! Came for their Hammertime special, plus I had a coupon from the Sugarhouse app! I had some delicious dry sake and two veggie rolls!! Even got green tea mochi for dessert!! Fun vibe!! Service was great!! It's not super speedy, but everything is fresh and so worth the wait! Definitely want to come back!!

Yelp
Food is phenomenal!!! Eat on the patio for sure, they have sprinklers that mist water in the summer. Service isn't super fast, but we come for the vibe so we don't mind. Sitting outside, having a good time, and eating with friends. My favorite restaurant in SLC, get the gyoza, chicken katsu, and the sushi is so good

Slimey W.

Yelp
Food is beyond amazing, service is not the fastest but i love the ambiance of the patio. best lava cake i've ever had
google avatar

Yelp
Loved their sushi and lunch options! Got the bento box and it was delicious! Tried fresh sashimi for the first time! Stock was nice and helpful and the place was really clean. I love how they have a patio area and it's good for all seasons!

Jessie O.

Yelp
Sticky floors, sticky tables, and poor service. I brought my family here for a celebration tonight and service was ridiculously SLOW. We sat near the back near the bathroom, one of few 4 person tables available. For 20 minutes we sat without anyone taking our drink or food order. The food arrived 30 minutes after that. No effort was made to check on us for drink refills. The food was good and we would have ordered more but didn't want to be late to another obligation at 8pm. We won't be back.

Yelp
I dined here for lunch on Thursday July 27, 2023 with a few business partners. Yellowfinn is located in a strip mall anchored by Old Navy and Barnes & Noble. Yellowfin has a sushi bar but also offers other dishes like seafood, bento boxes, teriyaki bowls and lunch specials. It's not a fancy sushi spot or a high end dining experience. It's like a fast causal restaurant but don't let me judge about the sushi experience because I'm used to Japanese and Sushi restaurants in big cities like LA, Miami and NYC. Otherwise, the service here was efficient and professional. We didn't need reservations. Food was really flavorful and the portion sizes were really good. Very affordable at lunch... the bill totaled less than $50 for 3 lunch specials. If you're in SLC and craving Japanese or sushi, definitely give Yellowfinn a try.

Yelp
I LOVE this place and I'm afraid that construction on 2100 is going to harm it. It's the best damn fresh sushi since I was in Tokyo, the side salad is fresh and bright and the soup is perfect. With patio seating and outdoor tables this is where I head when spring comes to Salt Lake City.
google avatar

Ryann G.

Yelp
YellowFinn is the best! The food is delicious and I absolutely love sitting on their outdoor patio. It's definitely a must go to in the Sugarhouse area. I've gone for both lunch and dinner and had a great experience both times.

Yelp
YellowFinn is our go-to spot for Happy Hour, or as they call it, Hammertime! $6 appetizers and $6 rolls, can't beat it! The ambiance is similar to a casual pub. They have alcohol that you can enjoy with your meal, and extremely friendly service. Usually there's only one server when we go for Hammertime, but I'm sure it's busier for lunch or dinner with all the businesses around. I would recommend the crunchy groove sushi roll here, and the wings are even good-sized!

Max F.

Yelp
One of my favorite places in Salt Lake City. Sushi is good 9/10 times. Wanted to write this note for the owner/ management that the 1/10 times it isn't good is consistently notable when the brown haired kid in his mid20's - early 30's makes our sushi. God, the first few times I wasn't going to say anything, but it's been about 7-8 times now where he's made us a bad batch:/ This place is awesome! Id recommend for anyone to go in. If he is making your sushi I'd truly request someone else.
google avatar

Yelp
Everything is always delicious and staff always friendly and attentive. It's clean and comfortable, nicely decorated. We go specifically for their tuna filled jalapeño poppers, which are out of this world.!! Get two orders you won't regret it !

Yelp
Yassss. This little sushi/Japanese grill tucked into the heart of my fave Sugarhouse shopping center is a super uptown SLC sushi option. The ambience is warm, but a little moody/edgy, and the staff are friendly and fun. Also, the location next to the stream is gorgeous. Enjoyed our rolls, but LOVED the potstickers and short ribs from the grill. None of the rolls blew my mind with unique flare/flavor, but they were solid and hit the "sushi spot" for our group. Overall, really enjoyed the evening and will have to swing in on my next venture to Old Navy, Petco, Barnes and Noble, or Whole Foods.

Yelp
The service was exceptional but the food needs some quality improvement. The Tuna Tostadas were delicious though. I also got sushi but it was warm. I loved the back patio area by the creek. I think it's also a family friendly environment if you wanted to bring kids.

Lindsay S.

Yelp
I loved the balance of my roll! I got "el Jefe" minus the tobilko & sriracha. The ingredients all tasted fresh! The server & the patio of the restaurant were both top tier! Got my food pretty quick, especially considering how many other customers there were! They also were very helpful to work around my gluten sensitivity. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars is that they cooked the rice wrong. It was chewy, not fluffy/sticky. I'm hoping it was a fluke, I did mention it, and they seemed understanding and attentive to my concern. I will be a returning customer here! For the price, atmosphere, and balance of the roll, it is the perfect treat!

Yelp
The location is so nice next to a creek but they totally dropped the ball on everything else. It took us 20 minutes to finally get seen by a waiter. After that it took almost an hour to receive our food (2 rolls and sashimi). The food did not taste super fresh to me. The fish was kind of warm. The whole visit took 2 hours for a 2 top and a small order. Ridiculous.

Yelp
I visited here for the first time on a Wednesday and was surprised it was quite busy for a week night. The menu is quite large and included not only Japanese food but some Korean dishes as well. Our table tried the tuna roll and California roll to start. Sushi was just okay and the rice was under seasoned. Definitely not up to the quality or flavor of other sushi spots in SLC. For my entree I ordered the tempura udon. I was surprised by the gigantic serving size! The tempura came out first and included assorted vegetables and shrimp along with three different sauces. The batter was pretty good but a little thicker than I would expect. Also wasn't a fan of their sauces because all were very sweet. The udon itself came out in a bubbling hot pot and was very full of vegetables, kamaboko, imitation crab, and spicy togarashi. I really liked the flavor and all of the add ins but the noodles were over cooked and borderline mushy. Altogether not a bad meal with large portion sizes.

Yelp
This is tucked away in the shopping center in sugar house. I recently noticed it when driving through and decided to give it a try for lunch! I ordered To go over the phone and my order was ready within 20 minutes! I was impressed by how quick they were able to get this. I got salmon nigiri, an eel roll and a Mars roll. I felt like price wise it was very comparable to some other sushi restaurants in the area. The nigiri was really good. The salmon was perfect! I really liked the Mars roll and would definitely get that again. The eel roll was okay, it was prepared great just not my favorite. I loved that they put the sauces for the rolls on the side so that the rolls still tasted fresh when I got home to eat. All in all very pleased with my lunch. I definitely would like to go back in during "hammer time" from 3-5 as it looks like they have some really good deals.

Naomi K.

Yelp
Delicious sushi. My favorite spot in Utah. I love their rolls and the Katsu is yummy too.
google avatar

Lolo M.

Yelp
Take advantage of their afternoon specialist and nicely priced rolls. I love their yellowfin rules, especially Pinocchio. It might be one of my favorite roles of all time.

macie e.

Yelp
Awesome sushi place. The staff is friendly and attentive, the food was amazing, there was no wait, and it all came out in less than 10 min. We especially loved the coconut shrimp appetizer. We have been here a couple times and will definitely be coming back!
google avatar

Bo C.

Yelp
Best albacore sashimi in the midwest. The rice is cooked to perfection, the fish melts in your mouth. Great beer selection
google avatar

Kashia L.

Yelp
The food was great, was happy with everything we ordered! The Screaming Orgasm is a great choice for Nigiri, the Death Machine and Kiss of Fire for spicy tuna rolls, and the Pinnochio was pretty good too. Service was a little slow but it could've just been an off night.
google avatar

Christina L.

Yelp
Really wanted the food to be good here bc it's a good location and has beautiful patio. But wow.... Half of our Korean bbq was BURNT and the sushi roll was terrible... it seemed like the kitchen used normal rice and not sushi rice. When we told the server that we couldn't eat the burnt meat, she just took it away and didn't offer to remedy. So unfortunate bc the restaurant overall has nice ambience.

Yelp
This is our go to place in Sugarhouse for Sushi. It is located on the creek in Hidden Hollow so in summer the natural setting of the creek is soothing and beautiful. Everything is good here really including the service. Especially Drew who is attentive, fun and sincerely enthusiastic. We come regularly for Hammertime which goes from 3-5 Tuesday through Thursday. Select awesome rolls and appys are $5. The wings are awesome! We always get the larger Crunchy Groove with its generous tuna and grey texture. Check it out, you'll probably become a regular like us. Love this place.

Yelp
My all time favorite for mussel shooters. Their happy hour is legit. Indoor and outdoor seating. Outdoor is a covered patio which I love fans and all. They have a fun engaging staff. What's nice is you can tell they all enjoy working together. It makes it that much more fun to go in. Theirs Mars roll is our favorite. Their teriyaki bowls are huge! They have random specials and rolls that are different. When you're craving a fancy roll something with lots of flavor this is your jam.
google avatar

Jane L.

Yelp
We love Yellowfinn for afternoon Hammertime when rolls are discounted between 3-5pm! We always order miso soup and jalapeño poppers to start. We love the Cinco de Mayo roll and if you're lucky, you can ask the cook to make you a special custom roll! For drinks, go for the Sapporo and the Purple Haze Sake. We love having Drew as our server, he's always so sweet and happy and vigilant during this pandemic era. We love Yellowfinn for life!

Liliana S.

Yelp
I really love yellowfin & have dined in more than a handful of times, this evening was my second time ordering takeout & eveything was good until my roll was missing the eel sauce that I can remember being in a separate container last time. The sushi was a little dry without it plus its my favorite :( there was also no ginger or wasabi which I can also remember last time i ordered takeout. the staff seemed very professional & quick when i came to pickup my food & i understand accidents happen, i also remember there being many sauces included with the fried rice last time that were also absent this evening. just overall seems like lower quality than i usually receive but boyfriend said shrimp fried rice was good other than "only had like 3 pieces of shrimp". i still love yellowfin & plan on returning, maybe dining in is just the better option.

Yelp
I came here for lunch while visiting town because my partner had mentioned how much he use to enjoy eating sushi here. The restaurant is cute and small (outdoor seating is probably really nice in the spring and summer). We ordered some sushi rolls and appetizers. My favorite thing from our lunch date were these spicy tuna wonton tostadas, very tasty. Unfortunately the sushi rolls were not very good. The rice must have been undercooked, very hard and falling apart in your mouth. Flavors weren't very good. We also ordered a deep fried roll which was my least favorite. I wouldn't personally come back for sushi here. Our service provider was very nice.

Yelp
HAMMERTIME SPECIAL DEAL!!! ( 3pm - 5pm ) I came here for the second half of my workday at 3-5pm. They had this special going on for $5 appetizers and $5 rolls, so I was beyond excited. It was a nice hot day so I sat on the patio which had misters and fans. The patio was right next to some trees and a creek so it was a cool ambiance and felt like I was in a jungle. I began with the jalapeño poppers (deep fried & delicious!) and the calamari. In order to save room I would probably pass on the calamari next time even though it was exactly what I wanted. Really hot and crispy. Side note: I'm a huge wasabi fanatic and the waiter kept bringing me mountains of it without me even asking. I was in heaven, even though I had tears and was coughing from how hot it was. For me, every time I get sushi it's a competition to see how much wasabi I can eat. For rolls I ordered the yellow tail roll, samurai, and haloe. I'm not sure if I spelt that right, but the Haloe roll was my favorite. It had coconut shrimp and crab in the roll with the classic sweet chili sauce on the side. The rolls came in about bundles of 6 each and we're not too big. If I didn't have the appetizers then I think I could have had 4 rolls I think I may be heading there for a late lunch tomorrow again! Can't get enough.

Yelp
Well, after 8 years of living here I tried Yellowfinn out due to a work lunch order. I ordered the yakisoba lunch special with tofu and they gave me chicken instead. Without exaggeration I have to say it was inedible. The noodles were chewy (not in a good way), way too sweet, and the chicken was leathery and dry. I took a few bites and tossed the rest in the bin. If I had one nice thing to say, the staff was friendly. And if I had one piece of advice: Reduce your portions and increase your quality.
google avatar

Alina S.

Yelp
I honestly wanted to give them a chance given the past recent reviews and I don't like giving reviews that are less than 5 stars but the experience we had dining in at Yellowfin on Friday night didn't meet expectations. We came a few minutes before 9pm and once we sat down it felt like they wanted to rush everyone out and close the restaurant by 9:30 instead of closing at 10. One example was server asking if we were done with our soy sauce so they could pack all the soy sauces and put them away to close up the restaurant while people were still eating. The DFG roll was good but the Cinco de Mayo looked very sloppy. We had to ask someone for refills and it didn't appear that the staff was experienced or trained well with serving/hosting, several were standing around doing nothing. I hope they would look to improve the service.
google avatar

Lewis F.

Yelp
Been here 5+ times now and really love the food here. The very last visit there was a problem with, I guess a late wait staff, so we had to wait a bit to get served. But every other time the wait staff has been attentive and fast. For the appetizers, the edamame and dragon scales are excellent. And you can't go wrong with either the sushi or the nigiri, super fresh. They also have some great rolls. If I had any criticisms it would be that they only have one type of hot sake and only 6 cold. If they could expand the list, this place would be truly stellar.

Yelp
This has become our go-to spot for sushi and completely converted my husband into sushi and past the basic cali roll phase. Ambiance - this spot is casual but still feels nice and trendy at the same time. I will give the summer ambiance an A++ because the outdoor seating by the creek is amazing. Inside there are also TVs which are usually playing the sport of the moment so we enjoy that as well. Food - The sushi here is amazing. We ALWAYS order the Kiss of Fire. I literally can't come here and not order it. It is my favorite sushi roll I've EVER had (and I've had sushi in Utah, in Denver, in NY, LA, Pheonix, Japan ... etc.). We also 95% of the time order the Cinco De Mayo, then the third roll rotates through the whole menu depending on the day. Some others we like: the Shogun, Death Machine (VERY spicy), Pinocchio, El Diablo. We've also had the Screaming Orgasm seared tuna and the Tuna Tostadas - both have been amazing. The service - We come SO often I'd say 18/20 times we have good or great service. I will say there have been a few times the kitchen has been VERY slow but we kind of expected it upon walking in (the staff seemed flustered, or understaffed on those rare days). When that is the case, the food can be very slow to come out but our waiters have always been attentive, communicative and comped us an app or edamame so I've never been upset. The value - You will not find better sushi in SLC for a more reasonable price. End of story. The verdict - we have household jokes around how obsessed with Yellowfinn we are. We can't get enough of this spot and have converted SO many friends to regulars here as well. HIGHLY recommend a try (and when you order the Kiss of Fire, know I am drooling in jealousy).

Yelp
A very nice, well run establishment. I recommend going for lunch or hammer time. The prices are good at those times, otherwise the sushi is pretty expensive. I have been to yellowfin many times and I'd say their food is really good on average. I would definitely recommend their sushi.
google avatar

Sunny D.

Yelp
We showed up 5 minutes past 9 and they wouldn't seat us. Why the hell are you open till 10 if you won't let people in after 9. I will NEVER be back. Way too many sushi places around that don't act like idiots running their business. DEFINITELY NOOOOO STARS!!
google avatar

Janette M.

Yelp
MEH. Uninspired and bland. Overpriced for the quality. No sushi chefs here. Rice and rolls completely fall apart. Service is ok. Will not be back.
google avatar

Margo H.

Yelp
We had a party of 11 for lunch and the food and atmosphere was presented very nice and everyone enjoyed their entree. The service was amazing too. Would definitely recommend. The servicing size if bigger than most. The prices were great for the amount of food and each dish looked so appetizing. YUM. Thanks Yellowfinn. MH@DS

Lexi D.

Yelp
I've came here a bunch of times and it's normally pretty good when i stick to what i know is good. The coconut shrimp is always amazing! I normally get the Teriyaki bowl, but i branched out and tried the "sweet and sour chicken" and it was absolutely the worst thing i've ever ate. i didn't even eat it actually. it was so goopy and horribly bland. Normally when i order this dish other places, the sauce comes on the side. this was all mushed in together. Looked like a bowl of snot. Unfortunately had to pay for it. Left hungry.
google avatar

Annelise S.

Yelp
Food was less than the best. Rice was tough and rolls lacked anything that made me want to come back. I ordered four nigiri and got two. Not sure what was wrong tonight but it was less than impressive. Wish I would not have spent $100 here. 3 nigiri and two rolls none were amazing.
google avatar

Megan L.

Yelp
This is a great sushi place! They have a big menu with a lot to choose from. My favorite things to order are the edamame, tempura vegetables and the Magnum P.I. sushi roll. The service is quick too.
google avatar

Khalid S.

Yelp
The mars and sunshine rolls still rock. So does the veggie fried rice. And they have Orion beer. And frosted mugs!
google avatar

Pat R.

Yelp
Hours online are inaccurate. They close at 9pm now. I'd hope they update their information.
google avatar

Larenzo J.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious. Fresh tasting sushi and great tasting miso. The service was excellent and the restaurant was clean. Parking can be rough but that's par for the course in that part of town.
google avatar

Alan L.

Yelp
Decent sushi in the heart of Sugarhouse. I really liked the playboy roll. The agent orange roll was more mediocre and I wouldn't recommend it. Prices are reasonable, nice outdoor patio area. I think i would come back but try another roll.
google avatar

Monica V.

Yelp
Yellowfinn is a solid choice for sushi in Sugarhouse. I loved their shady patio that's right next to a creek, and we were able to stay cool despite the 100 degree temperature that day. The menu is pretty expansive with great options for non-sushi eaters too. If you're dining between 3-6, select items are discounted. I had the baked mussels, yellowtail roll, spicy tuna, and agent orange. Everything tasted great, but the agent orange roll stood out the most. It's topped with a spicy sauce that gives it a real kick if you're in the mood for some heat. I'd come back again for this roll alone. Service was great and I didn't have any complaints whatsoever.
google avatar

Jason R.

Yelp
Got this for a work lunch, employees were nice and welcoming when picking up the food. The sushi was good and tasted fresh. My only gripe is that for takeout they put the sauce that typically goes on top of the sushi they put on the side. I would have appreciated this if I was driving farther away however I was just taking it right back to work. I would have liked if we were asked to put it on the side or on top like usual. Will eat here again!
google avatar

Dominique H.

Yelp
Always a great choice! The food is delicious and is always pretty quick to come out. I got the Cinco De Mayo roll and a Shrimp Tempura roll, delicious! The host at the front was so kind and was quick to check our temperatures and walk us in to our table. They were following all guidelines and enforced distancing between tables and each party that was seated. Plus- they're one of the few sushi restaurants open on a Sunday, which is nice. Give Yellowfinn a try!
google avatar

Samantha O.

Yelp
We love this sushi place! We haven't been since September due to COVID precautions, but when we did go, they took our temperature and seemed to be wiping down everything. The sushi is great and the waiters are always helpful in their recommendations!
google avatar

Annie P.

Yelp
My husband and I thought we'd check this place out because we're trying to frequent more places in the Sugarhouse area. We got the bibimbap, Korean BBQ, and the samurai roll. They were all very good - the sauce for the bibimbap was sweeter than I'd prefer but it was otherwise tasty. I felt like the prices were a bit expensive for what we were getting, but since we came during happy hour the samurai roll was only $5. So I'd definitely recommend coming during their "hammertime" (3-6 PM daily) for $5 rolls. Otherwise, the food was good but just slightly more expensive than I'd prefer.
