I really enjoy coming here. The food is good, but the price needs to be consistent. Today I had the worse experience because a staff member wants to disregard the signs saying minimum is $7 for a plate to charge me $10. Price has to be consistent. I only got 2 pieces of chicken a small amount of rice. How is tbat $10. I even got it in the small plate. Be consistent with your prices and not have your staff charge random prices for no reason. I came yesterday got the same amount of food ( actually More) I got into an argument got less food slowed the line down all while customers are telling your staff to not keep changing the price.

12/25: This place is amazing. Stop and shop pissed me off w my pick up order. Told them to refund my $400 and went right across the street. The smell of this place just took the aggravation completely away. Thank y'all! They always do me right and it's cool if you do not know Spanish lol

Their rice is always extremely burnt. On more than several occasions, I’ve biked home with some food only to discover that the rice was extremely burnt and completely inedible. It’s a shame because the rice actually tastes decent from here when it’s not burnt, but their quality control is absolutely horrendous. Maybe they’ve improved since then, but this happened to me so many times that I gave up on coming here entirely

Jelly restaurant usted to be good. I have good memories getting a order of fritura and it was good. Not anymore. The last two times I've been there has been disappointing. I would not go there anymore. and I don't recommend neither the fried beef or chicharones, tostones were cold. My friend and I. we both got chicharrones yesterday and I was pretty disappointed; what I got was a lot of grease that I couldn't even eat. just a couple pieces that were eatable the rest I put it on the trash. Unfortunately this is a place that I will take out of my list for chicharrones and tostones opocion.

I had a terrible experience with this restaurant. First, they sent me only part of my order through Grubhub, which was incredibly disappointing. When I called to inquire, I was shocked by how I was treated. The woman on the phone laughed and hung up on me, and when I tried again an hour later, another staff membe, a man, actually mocked my concern to a colleague, and both laughed before hanging up again. It was incredibly disrespectful and unprofessional. To make matters worse, the food I did receive was over-salted and overwhelmingly seasoned, making it nearly inedible. After all the time, frustration, and back-and-forth with support, the quality simply wasn’t worth it. I’m still working with Grubhub to resolve this, but I sincerely hope they take note of this business’s behavior. Restaurants that treat customers this way and deliver subpar food do not deserve to thrive. Avoid this place at all costs.

If you ask for a 10 dollar plate, they want to charge you 13 at the register, and if you ask for a chicharon they cut it and keep a portion behind the counter

First time i came here and i really love it every single items from here including the servers Lol. I recommend it this play to anyone who would like to tastes a litler bit of my country DR. All the foods items and the natural juices are delicious, keep up the GOOD JOB on this traditional's kitchen...

Highly recommend if you're craving authentic Dominican food! The portion is huge and quality is good. Great service and very welcoming. Been going here for YEARS. I'm so glad they're still around since COVID hit. Will continue to support!

The rice was a little dry but the meat and tostones were really good. The prices were so reasonable for essentially 2 meals worth of food.

Dominican classics and a staple of JP. Had mangu, a lunch special of beef ribs with arroz con gandules and went on the way.

Sorry, but they changed the carne de res. Not a fan. Used to be more meaty, now it has all these other ingredients 'diluting' that. I'm guessing someone's trying to cut costs. (Yes, people notice stuff like this). I hadn't been there for several months, I'm wondering if there are new owners. I'll check back at some point. If they're still making it like that, I definitely won't be going back.

Anderson the owner of yelly's coffee shop Has been doing business in Boston for a very long time and as such is an expert in the restaurant business Yelly's Café is perhaps the best Dominican restaurant in Boston although it has a very humble appearance as it is strictly for takeout the food is authentic Dominican food very tasty always fresh because it has a good turnout. I must also include that it is the best value and that everything is already done cafeteria style place so you don't have to wait you get your food immediately and see what you're getting and you can add add more or less as you like and they will give you a very good price enjoy.

FOOD POISONING! I thought the chicken smelled weird but I assumed it was their new seasoning so I ate it anyway. 6 hours later, Clostridium perfringens bacteria infection and terrible diarrhea. Stay away! ¡COMIDA ENVENENADA! Yely's has been a solid place to get authentic Dominican food for years. There's a wide variety of options to choose from and you'll feel more than satisfied with your meal. The prices can't be beat for what you get and the portions are large. I got takeout and forgot to take pictures, but if it's your first time I would recommend getting a plate with rice and beans, chicharrón, and tostones.The place is small but the aroma of all the food makes it feel homey. The people who work here are humble and always willing to help make recommendations of food. I honestly haven't tried anything here that I didn't like and I would highly recommend you give them a try if your driving through JP.

Used to be a good place to get relatively cheap and delicious food. But I'm never going back. There's a worker there (has glasses) who was screaming at a co-worker while I waited in line (there was no line lol). I said I wanted a small...he ignored me, stirring up beans, continuing to yell at a co-worker. I waited for him to finish yelling, then reiterated small, as he hadn't made the adjustment. He yells at me, and I told him to calm down (should've walked out). Of course, it was more food than I wanted and more than a wanted to pay, so shame on me. My advice...go to Alex Chimis. Food is better, service is consistent, and they are actually professional. It's just a bit further from my place. But that guy is a POS and needs to find a new job, customer service...no, professionalism in general, is not his forte.

Some of the best chicharrons I have had in a while. I hate ordering it and it's nothing but fat..however mine were meaty and tasty. I had a plate of that with yellow rice. It was so good that I gobbled it all down before I could snap a picture of my plate. It all came to $10 which is about average for a Spanish restaurant..you can get a $5 plate for just the chicharron but the rice looked so delicious I just had to get it. Parking sucks around that area but if you can find a spot you're golden.

Beware the foods ok but when they cut up your pork you don't get all what you pay for. They are low key prejudice. The prices change every time you go in there.

Yelly has some delicious food that is worth buying. It's a Caribbean taste and distinctly Dominican in flavor. The cooks are all Dominican to so the authenticity is real. They are big on pork made cuisine but some options for those who do not like it! If you are a vegetarian you silk have some options to but I think everything is codin the same oil and such. Yoy can also get all fruit drinks, miss the sodas and water. The price is minimum ranged from 5-12 dollars plate. It's made daily and the food is fresh too. Everyone that comes here enjoys the food buy out is very fatty and high in cholesterol. That's it! Comes on down!

My friend went to Yely's & ordered Pork with spaghetti this evening. He went to take his first or second bite and found a ROACH in his food! We went back and showed the employees what we found. There was a language barrier; however, that's no excuse to have a careless attitude. So unprofessional. They offered us $10.00 but that doesn't dismiss the fact that there was a roach in the food. They did nothing. Appalled and beyond disgusted! BEWARE!

Good food, but the pricing is inconsistent. One day you'll spend $10 then the next day it'll be $14. I think its better if you speak Spanish. I won't be returning since I kinda feel that I'm being ripped off.

Their mangu is mashed well and although they didn't use red onions, the white onions were so flavorful and had the vinegar taste to it. The cheese could've been crispier or made to order. Will definitely come back for more

This has to be the most sketchy restaurant I've been to. The name of the place is odd too... They don't sell coffee! It's a pretty small place and the people are friendly. From what my friend told me, they change up the menu from day to day and there are no prices... They just tell you at the end but don't worry it's always cheap! We got the rice and beans with fried pork, chicken, fish and potatoes. I have to say it was pretty good tasting. I wouldn't go back regularly but when I'm on a budget id grab a plate. My favorite was probably the fish and the fried pork What concerned me the most was how they kept the food. It wasn't the most sanitary but I love the authenticity of the place!

My friend got food from Yely's tonight and there was a whole dead cockroach in it. I saw another review for the same thing from three years ago- that's not ok!

A big helping of seasoned rice, some strips of fried pork, a half-lime for adding flavor and some fried plantains. Oh, and the passionfruit juice. The rice was surprisingly flavorful and mixed well with the pork. The pork, which tasted good, especially with some lime juice squeezed on, was a bit hard. I don't mean tough. I mean hard. At first, I was a bit concerned that I was trying to crunch down on bone. I got a bit worried about chipping my teeth. But getting past that, it was quite delicious. The fried plantains tasted as fried plantains always taste. Nothing special there. And the portions were great. I was able to stretch the food into two meals. Probably the highlight of the meal, though, was the passionfruit juice. It was sweet, but not too sweet, with a familiar yet exotic flavor. I had a hard time not drinking it all at once. What's more, it had that really small ice like they have at the Sonic fast food places. Call me crazy, but I love that ice! I have received food poisoning after ordering from here. When sharing the news with friends, it seems that they have also gotten food poisoning from this place in the past.

I love coming here. The Dominican ambiance is so accurate. The food is so authentic. Tastes like home. I order here to cross the street and eat at my grandpas house. A little goes a long way as far as money goes. I always have left overs.

Great quality home cooked style food. Chicharones were perfectly done. Crispy skin with juicy soft meat. The bbq ribs were huge fall off the bone and delicious. I'd eat here every day if I could. Great price for a massive amount of quality food!

A little disappointed with this place & to write this review, this became the special go to place a few years back for my family, bomb food, & nice portions! For years It was my mothers favorite place before she passed in 2011, so after she died i would come down every so often to get a great plate & keep her memory alive. But now i feel like they just serve food to keep the money flowing & that they no longer cook to please the customers, just another day. i got a plate today, the rice is good but really doesn't seems prepared like they care, the chopped chicken is cooked but the skin isnt crunchy at all, but moist & soft & a little slimy because of that. Just not like how it used to be, another one bites the dust. Smh. S/n: someone on here said they had found a roach in thier plate so it is CONFIRMED that I will not be finishing my plate from earlier or coming back! I don't want Any Surprises! One of Boston's hidden gems, in the heart of JP. Amazing Dominican kitchen with big portions. Don't expect to sit. Crispy chicharrons and hearty gravy... Tip -- if you don't wan to order meat, you can ask for gravy. Perfect for the cold winter. Or summer!

The first time I brought Yely's takeout home, my roommate took two bites of the rice, stopped eating, and stared at her plate. "What do they put in the rice to make it taste like that?" she asked. "I don't know. Probably crack." It's not crack, but it is that addictive: I will go far, far out of my way for a plate of Yely's rice with chicharones. I've had it elsewhere, and nowhere else measures up, so despite the fact that Yely's is wicked inconvenient for me, I keep coming back. The savory goodness of the rice, the salty crunchy meaty goodness of the chicharones...they're just perfect. It's what I go for every time I'm here. I've tried other stuff as well: tostones, empanadas, fried chicken. It was all good (except the tostones which were quite dry, but then, I've yet to find tostones in Boston that weren't Sahara-Desert dry), but none of it was a standout. Don't be too influenced by the reviews that go on about the "sketchy" neighborhood and the notion that Anglos don't get treated right. If you walk around expecting people to treat you like you don't belong there, they probably will, because you'll be acting weird. If you don't walk around with that attitude, they'll almost certainly just go about their business and stay out of yours -- unless, of course, their business is selling you crack rice and chicharones, in which case they'll take your money and give you your food and everyone will be happy.

This is where us Hispanics go when we get take out food. Their rice rivals mine :-), and I can't make chicharrones to save my life. They have a wide variety of staples, yucca (fried or boiled), chicken (guisado or fried), and at least 2 different types of rice. If you are lucky you can find fish, fried salami, and tostones still available. It's easy on the pockets too. For my family of 5 we spend about $25 and still have some for lunch the next day. My only issue with this place is only about 15 people fit in there at a time. I often have waited in line outside to get my food, and there are only about 3-5 stools to sit and eat.

I'm back.... back in the bury again. Well Jamaica Plain. Almost Roxbury . Yelly's to be exact on Centre Street. It's quick Spanish food that hits the spot. Pre-cooked morsels behind glass get your mouth watering. Predominantly Spanish speaking customers with the occasional gringo congregate in and outside of the establishment. Mostly deep fried and heavily salted the meats vary. On any given day you can choose from a myriad of different cuts of pork beef and chicken.some seafood is offered but I avoid it. Foods foreign to the North American palate are offered. Like casava which is a starchy vegetable not unlike potatoes that's steamed and speckled with thin slivers of red onion. Plantains in both form are represented . Theres sweet called plantanos maduros that are usually halved lengthwise and deep fried which caramelizes the sugars colored golden brown . Then there's the green plantains ( not as ripe ) which are deep fried smashed and fried again to create a round French fry type of side dish. My favorite cut of meat is the chicherones which is basically deep fried uncured bacon. My 8 dollar plate came with sweet plantains fried chicken and the chicherones. Doused with hot sauce and freshly squeezed lime juice made it otherworldly and satiated my salt intake for the week. If you go tell em Joe sent you. They undoubtably will turn their head sideways and ignore you. Tubby phone gringo and they'll know who you mean.

Yely's has 2 separate price lists for their customers. I lived in Bromley all my life and every time I go there I order one regular plate and I'm charged wayyyyy too much! I've witnessed others that speak their language go there and order enough food for a family of 4 and pay the same amount I've been charged!! They need to put up pricing for customers to see when they go in, instead of making up unequal pricing!! I wont go back, they are beating the community!!!!

I have been going there since I was in high school. Let me warn you that the neighborhood is quite sketchy. It is literally across from the projects and when I go I keep my money in my pocket and I don't bring my purse. Sketchiness aside, Yely's has authentic Dominican food. The staff is nice and if you don't mind a heart attack for under $6, get an empanada with your plate of tostones and chicharron. There is no where to sit and the place can get crowded fast. Go early or really late in the afternoon when new batches of food is coming out so you're not stuck with stale pieces. You have to time it right. Don't go around 3 because that's left overs from lunch and don't go right before closing because that's left overs from dinner. My spanish is pretty good so when I go, I order in spanish and pretend I am one of them. Sometimes I pass if I roll my Rs properly, but if they pick up on my accent they will ask where I'm from. Sad to say, but I notice that they give me more food for less money if I do it that way rather than ordering in english. So brush up on your spanish or that $6 plate could quickly turn into an $9 plate faster than you can say "Delicioso." I ducked them a star for screwing anglophones out of good value, but they earned it right back because as of last summer they now take plastic. That's right, Yely's has a credit card machine! No more crossing sketchy ass center street to go into the BoA ATM next to Stop and Shop.

So over this place. I always feel so rushed and the guy that usually serves the food doesn't listen to what I say (I speak fluent Spanish, too). They also are inconsistent with portions and make up their prices as they go. Also, some of the food is mediocre. The potato salad is super cold and drenched in mayo (I just tossed it in the trash) and I hate when they automatically put beans on your rice. Every single latin restaurant I have been to in the past puts beans in a separate container so I find this very odd. All set for sure.

My favorite Dominican spot; every time I go to Yely's, the staff are always sweet and entertaining; Yely, herself is lovely! But the food is to die for; it's authentic, Dominican food and the cheapest I've had in boston with big portions every since I was 13 or 14 and I'm 25 now. My favorite is there yellow rice, chicharrón, and plantanos, both sweet and savory. I hope this place never changes and it will always be my number 1 Dominican spot!

Best latin take out food in the area. Come here if you want: - Yummy pork - Juicy Rotisserie chicken and don't mind: - Somewhat arbitrary pricing model. - Somewhat sketchy area. I get take out from here and it usually costs me between 7-15 dollars with that amount of food lasting me 2-3 meals. I usually just point and they help me out.

Incredibly delicious. Swift and friendly service. I think I may have gotten a discount because I know what tostones are and that surprised them since I was the only white girl in there. Not 5 because the tostones were just OK. I'm rarely if ever in the area, but if I find myself out there again I will be stopping in.

Yely's how I love thee. This is hands down the best hangover breakfast in JP. You get alot of bang for ur buck. very cheap and plate is overfilling. I also really like their coffee- reminds me of greek diner coffee in nyc. I often go here instead of Dunkies but the cup it comes in , isnt as strong and I sometimes/always spill it on myself. Its a buck so I guess I should just shut up, right? Lunch is cool. Its not the healthiest but if u want healthy u really shouldnt b coming here in the 1st place. Pork and chicken is excellent. I dont love the rice tho (just being honest)

Do not order from this restaurant they do not listen to customers when they take orders. I ordered items online from them for delivery and when they called me to tell me 2 of the 3 items i ordered were not available they then tried to sell me the third item to which i asked them just to cancel the order at this point but they sent it anyways! they tried to rob me of 34$ for food at this point i was in no mood for since i could not get what i wanted. Talk about poor customer service through and through.

Didn't regret it as a quick grab by Jackson Square. But, probably wouldn't return since there are better options in the neighborhood. Pricing seems to depend on their mood and whether they know you. Also a bit dry.

granted, I am in a hardcore fat elvis phase of my own right now. but who can pass up crispy delicious chicharones & tostones for under $4? & I disagree about the staff - the people behind the counter have always been nice & friendly to me (even when I make them pick through the stacks of crispy fatty meat to select the piece I want!) this spot is take out & cash only. cheap, quick, and open late. perfect for the occasional cardiac-arrest craving - yum!

If you're a cute young hispanic girl, then you can get a bargain here. If you're not then make sure you send one in to buy your plate otherwise they'll jack the price up for you. If you don't have a choice make sure you specify "I want a 6 dollar plate!" then proceed to make your order. Come in the morning to late afternoon so you dont get food that's been sitting out all day. If you do what I say you'll be sitting at home enjoying a nice plate of chicharrones and freshly made tostones. If you want to try a traditional Dominican Breakfast come early and order a Tripleta, it's scrumptious.

I love this place. But it is hit or miss. I went recently and the yellow arroz y condules was bland and had left over meat in it. Yuck. The chiccarone, tostones, and sausage were good. I had to ask for limes...why?? Next time i will opt to get white rice and beans instead. Prices for plates also have no rhym or reason. Great local place.

Stopped by here after working an overnight shift cause I was hungry and in the mood for mangu but not about to boil and mash the platanos myself. Dear lord, this shit is almost as good as my mom's. The salami was a little less cooked than I like (I like it crispy almost burnt) but it was on point!! I also got yucca con chuletas to go so I wouldn't have to make lunch once I woke up. The chuletas were perfectly seasoned and the yucca was nice and moist. Food is seriously authentic. Reminds me of stopping at some hidden gem on the side of the road in DR when I was younger. Kind of regret not asking if they had jugo de chinola, but I guess that just means I have to go back now. :)

It's dirt cheap fried meat, dough, plantains and whole chickens. Nice guys behind the counter. A little sketch at the same time. Don't know why it took me so long to find it. This is what JP should be filled with. hi quality products for low prices. hi-lo don't count though...

From this shop you can eat fantastic hispanic food. But the downfalls are: No sit down dining (only take out), the women that work there have attitude promblems. But the tostones are delicious and the pork chops are fried to eveyones liking. You know that something is good when they run out of it @ 3:00 in the afternoon. People from all walks of life enter this shop and leave with similes of pleasure.

Love the food here. Yes, sometimes, you get more, sometimes you get less-it depends on who's serving you. But either way it's more than affordable. The staff is super friendly.

I've been going here for over 10 years. I never get the same thing. I usually just get a variety of pork, chicken, sausage, & plantains. Sometimes the styrofoam container is overflowing and, at other times, it's packed almost to the brim, but there is always more than enough food for two people. It usually costs somewhere around $10 (give or take a few dollars). Every once in a while some of the food is a bit dry, but that is nothing a little hot sauce can't fix.

I've always passed up this place walking to and from school and decided that today I was going in and ordering myself a plate. I came in around noon and got a plate of yellow rice & pigeon peas topped with stewed beef and a beef empanada (which are called "patties" here. I'm Dominican and we never called them "patties" -- that's a Jamaican thing. They're either empanadas or pastelitos. Maybe patties is just a catch-all phrase used up in the Northeast. Anyway). I got all that for only $6! It was enough food for both lunch *and* dinner, and it was delicious, of course. Very quick service; I was in and out in about five minutes even though I was standing in a good sized line. Great place for when I'm missing my mom's homemade cooking.
