Impressed about 짜장면 black bean noodle! the noodle can be different kind but I really liked the sauce. Szechan beef was good. Service is definitely slow and lacking as it took forever to order and the waitress didnt bothered to fill up our water. But the lady who cleaned up the table seemed professional.

Talk about a bang for your buck! The waiter Samuel was constantly keeping the water full and she even offered to babysit my Goldfish for free while I’m visiting family in Russia for a week! You get 3 meals for like $14 and that includes miso soup and diet soda. Boise sure does know it’s China Food! Especially being Blackfoot Native I felt welcomed.

10/10 DO NOT RECOMMEND. Especially if you're Black. At first I thought I was just over reacting but from the moment I walked in the door I could feel the vibe shift as if why was I there. I have given this place 2 more chances since then and each time I was given the same reception. Today, I ordered the sizzling rice soup (quart size) and dumplings for $30 and had to come back twice because I didn't receive the necessities such as utensils and sauces. The second time I came back was due to the fact that the sizzling rice FOR THE SIZZLING RICE SOUP was not in the bag and was told that I have to ask for it. Why call it sizzling rice if I have to request the sizzling rice? The dark haired hostess is rude and unprofessional and im glad I didn't feel like crashing out today. I will never give this establishment another dime of my money since my kind isn't wanted there. I would give 0 stars if I could.

My husband has a wheat allergy and they are always so good to help us pick the right options. He's never had a reaction after eating there. Today we got the shrimp fried rice and snow white chicken ( both GF). 😋 Yum! Great portions and delicious.

The food here was good - I got the sweet and sour and was not disappointed. Same as the crab rangoons… they were so good. Potstickers were just as good! The service was good, but they did appear to be understaffed which is unfortunate for them. Portions are huge! Overall, good place, but there is another place i’d say is better

Google
I have been here a few times and the food is always amazing. I enjoyed the fried rice, black bean noodles, orange chicken and crab Rangoon. I also had a cocktail that was very tasty. This most recent time I went it took over an hour to get our food. The waitress was very polite.

Google
I have come to this place for years and the owner is amazing at making drinks and serving great food i highly recommend. It is slightly slow service but worth the wait. Drinks are strong. Food once you finally order sometimes takes a while. But iv e only had one time where one person's food came out slightly cold when in group setting but it wasn't that cold my friend/coworker at a luncheon was just picky and from vallejo california. So makes sense he would complain most reviews complaining are from Cali so go back where you came from I'm born and raised and this is best generals chicken. You'll ever have eat on boise !!!!

I’ve been going to Yen Ching since 1992, when I was just three years old. Growing up, this place was full of good memories — my family and I would come here often, and I remember the food being fantastic, the atmosphere warm, and the inside completely different from what it is now. Unfortunately, it just isn’t the same these days. On my recent visit, I ordered takeout and was disappointed. The General Tso’s chicken felt like only half a portion, the Pad Thai didn’t have much flavor, and the hot and sour soup — once my favorite — just wasn’t what it used to be. For what I got, it felt very overpriced. I’m giving three stars, mainly out of nostalgia and appreciation for all the good meals and memories from the past. But compared to what it used to be, Yen Ching no longer delivers the same experience.

Yelp
I see you, Yen Ching! After trying other Chinese restaurants after moving to the Boise area I gave up on finding good Chinese food. What a pleasant surprise! Every dish reminded me of the classic Chinese restaurants in the 80s and 90s. You know the ones-decor mostly in red-large round glass tables with red tablecloths with a lazy Susan on the table (Yen Ching didn't have this but it had it's essence) We ordered Mongolian beef, Mu Shu Pork, and the black bean noodles. Mongolian Beef-classic dish-meat was tender and flavorful, perfect ratio of white onions and green onions placed over crispy rice noodles Mu Shu Pork-had that flamed flavor I love-pork was tender and loved all the veggies in this dish Black Bean sauce Noodles-rich flavor-classic taste Will be returning very soon!

Yelp
I usually don't have any complaints about this joint but today's not the case. Came in for lunch today in between clients I know Yen Ching is fast and good. I checked out the specials board today. I saw that they had fried shrimp rolls and a couple other dishes. The shrimp rolls really stuck out to me. So for lunch I got haw gar and the fried sheep shrimp rolls. It was going to take a minute for the haw gar to be made so I just hung and sipped on my hot tea. My haw gar looked fabulous as usual. I was looking forward to tearing them up! They were so good! The shrimp was tender and the outing wrapping was so soft. Dip that baby in soy sauce and chili and it's heaven! The fried shrimp rolls on the other hand.... I was shocked to see two small egg rolls. And the kicker, for the two small rolls it was 10 bucks. So basically 5 dollars for a single roll. 5 bucks!?! You can order egg rolls at Jack in the Box for cheaper and bigger than that. There's not much to an egg roll so for someone to charge 5 bucks for a scrawny roll just blows my mind. They were good but nothing extraordinary that they can charge that much for a tiny roll. If you want appetizers, I would probably stay away from the scrawny egg rolls. This is my go to joint for lunch. I'm sure I will be back but I will stick to what I know. I like getting my money's worth in today's economy and today was not one of those days which was so disappointing

Yelp
We had a fairly large group (with a reservation) We were seated promptly, the server was efficient and nice. The food arrived quickly and was hot and fresh. It all made for an enjoyable evening!

Yelp
Had a great dinner. I had the Hunan beef and steamed rice. My wife had the beef broccoli and steamed rice spicy. Fresh and flavorful. I had a Tsingtao and my wife a glass of cab. Large portions and very good. Best Chinese around IMO. Very efficient service and super clean restaurant.

Yelp
Ordered 6 different items and they were all 10/10. Definitely the best Chinese in Boise. The sweet and sour pork and the cream cheese ragoons are amazing.

Yelp
Yen Ching is my favorite restaurant to go to hands down! Me and my dad go there for our birthdays and I'm still craving more!

Nina P.

Yelp
Wow! Everything is so fresh and delicious. First time visiting and will be back. Most entries is enough for several people. We ordered way too much but they were good leftovers!

Yelp
The food is good (been here before), but I've been sitting here for ten minutes, and nobody has shown up to take my order. And somebody's vacuuming. Closing time is not till 9. Weird.
google avatar

David G.

Yelp
The hot and sour soup tasted burnt. The spicy noodles had no flavor or maybe the burnt hot sour soup affected my taste.

Yelp
Been on the hunt for best Chinese in town, as Boise Asian food can be lacking. So far this is the best I've tried in town! Had fried rice, beef Cho fun, pork buns, egg rolls, sweet and sour chicken and enjoyed it all! Will be back!

Yelp
When we got the food the orange chicken was dry and tasteless and i'm not picky when it comes to Chinese food. The crab rangoon were stale and cold (after a 15 min drive home). And the egg roles just didn't taste very good. The restaurant did comp everything that we weren't happy with so at least there is that. Update: The few bites i did eat made me sick, i'm on the toilet regretting life

Yelp
Had to leave a review after eating there and seeing the 3.5 stars. It was definitely not 3.5 stars. The atmosphere was like a boring cafeteria style. The food was atrocious. We had soup, an appetizer and entree. They were all bad. How do you mess up hot and sour soup - they figured out a way. Would not recommend and would not go back (even if it was free).

Yelp
After waiting 20 mins for someone to come take our order at 10 Barrel we crossed the street and we are so glad we did. Some of the best Chinese food I've had in a long time. The sweet and sour chicken was cooked perfectly with the perfect sauce. The fried rice was yummy and the ribs were delectable! Just passing through town but wish they were closer, so hard to find good Chinese food like this. Highly recommend.

Becky A.

Yelp
This was once the best Chinese restaurant in Boise but the past 3 visits, and I think giving them 3 final attempts to change my mind is absolutely beyond giving them "one more chance" and is more veering towards the definition of insanity. This place is garbage now. Almost dangerous if not indeed dangerous. This restaurant does not deserve your patronage.

Yelp
Food is very tasty but chow fun is super is so good. I love their chicken chow fun. Can't buy it in Boise any other place. You're my favorite place to have Chinese Food. Their service is excellent and just the same quantity every time. Very gracious!!!!!!!!!!

Yelp
My dad and I went in today to dine we were greeted promptly and seated the waitress said just a heads up I'm getting a 25 top so you know sooner than later for your order... Really appreciated that heads up. Then my dining companion who I will not name, knocked over his drink and they cleaned it up and replaced the drink... In the middle of an early dinner rush. Our food came out quite quickly for as busy as they were. It was very very tasty. My Ginger beef was absolutely the best ginger beef I've ever had usually the ginger is an afterthought not this time THANK YOU

Yelp
Last February a member in one of my FB local food groups mentioned how good their soup dumplings were and another member recommended their dim sum, too. Wanted dim sum for New Year's Day, but they weren't available on Eve day, except for the BBQ bun. Ordered Yen Ching Chow Mein (beef, chicken & shrimp), Shrimp in Lobster Sauce, Sweet & Sour Pork, Broccoli in Oyster Sauce, Black Mushroom, Bamboo Shoot & Snow Peas. Used their online take-out menu. Really wanted to order their Peking or Roast Duck, but was too much food. Next time. Everything, but the BBQ bun was excellent. Been ages since I had such wonderful Chinese food (hey, I'm in ID). I like a lot of veggies in my noodle dish, so mixed the Black Mushroom, Bamboo Shoot & Snow Peas into it - was perfect. Depending on the time/day you go there, the traffic and parking could be an issue - just plan for it. Don't mind if I have to wait as I like the store, Mixed Greens Modern Gift Shop, just a block down 9th St. Or grab a beer at 10 Barrel Brewing across the street. Not a very big dining area, would think lunch/dinner hours would require a bit of a wait. If you like dim sum, they have a limited menu and it's a little on the pricey side (compared to Monterey Park and Little Saigon). Won't deter me though when I get a craving for it.

Yelp
I can officially say that this spot is my to go to when I'm visiting Boise with the husband. I like to order the Hot and Sour soup, veggie rolls, veggie mix with chow mein. Delicious I highly recommend, the staff is very friendly.

Yelp
I have not been able give a 5 star rating to any Asian food in Idaho until now. Thank goodness for Yen Ching. It looks like an old school Chinese food place should- and more importantly TASTES LIKE IT! This is actually the only Chinese food in all of the Treasure Valley we will come back for. And- they have soup dumplings. We played it safe this round, and ate too fast for Yelp photos, but we got potstickers (very much a yes), soup dumplings (I'm not telling you what the menu calls them cause I don't want to lose out and cause a sell out) combo chowmein and beef broccoli. Today's leftovers were still good, and even if it means I have to deal with parking downtown- I am 100% coming back. It's exactly the Americanized but not too Americanized Chinese food people from the Bay Area expect to get- and exactly what we need more of on Idaho. Great job to the owners. I truly appreciate it!

Ava L.

Yelp
Food was average. I'm Asian and am used to my Chinese grandpas cooking and I know these are more Americanized plates but I expected more. Service was fine and ambiance was nice! I just hope the food could be better quality. I ordered some har gow dumplings and the wrapping was too thick and the shrimp tasted so weird.

Yelp
After moving from the Bay Area to Idaho 3 years ago - to the culinary wasteland for Chinese food we planned an escape to savor Yank Sing's wonderful Dim Sum as part of a one day SF trip. It did not disappoint. At the first bite of steamed pork bun we went into Dim Sum euphoria, ordered nearly every morsel that passed by on a cart. Everything was hot, delicious and we literally ate ourselves into a Dim Sum coma. We also ordered long life noodles which were redolent with a variety of mushrooms, careful to slurp them up whole for good luck. The only sterling disappointment was the Prawn with Walnuts dish. Bland, greasy, poor presentation. Other than that one dish we were delighted with our meal and vowed to make an in and out trip every 6 months to return to this and other favorite dining experiences we miss so much in SF.

Yelp
I read something online that said if you want to find the best chinese food places in town, look for ones that are 3.5 stars. the reason being is that the service likely sucks, which is why the stars are lower, but the food is solid and that's what matters. I would say in this case, that's about on point. the service here was whatever. the hostess was nice and easy going and friendly but the one server they had for the entire restaurant during rush hour looked like she literally wanted to quit. so they lose a star for service. the menu is huge. it's all the chinese favorites. I think the prices are fair. I love all the photos of everything so you get a real idea of what you are ordering. I ordered: cashew chicken mom: shrimp with lobster sauce friend 1: sweet and sour chicken friend 2: general tsos chicken I like me mine but the chicken was the part I didn't like. it was kind of grizzly and oddly cut. I loved the cashews though- yum! the shrimp with lobster sauce I didn't like at all. my mom said it was good though. I have never had that dish so i'm not a good judge. the sweet and sour chicken was the best thing on the table. I would order that again. I didn't get to try the other friends but it looked really good. they also have a salad bar so you go and make your own salad. it has lettuce, noodles, and crispy wonton skins and 2 dressings. my son ended up just eating the noodles from that as his meal. it had peas, carrots, ham, and noodles. he loved it! good thing, because they do not have a kids menu that we saw. overall, I would like to come back. chinese food just doesn't compare to thai food, but I won't count it out. also, they lost a star for offering egg drop soup but then never delivering it and when we asked the grouchy server said they were "all out". ok.

Yelp
Stopped by for Lunch while visiting Boise on Business. Good food and great service. Will definitely come back And maybe take a few co-workers with me.

Yelp
Yen Ching is one of the best Chinese Restaurants in Boise and one of the only places to find Dim Sum in the treasure valley. I love that they offer hot tea complimentary along with water. There is a large dining area which is rarely packed, so I feel very comfortable both eating in and taking out food. There is also a bar area of this restaurant that offers inventive cocktails-- I've tried their passionfruit mojito and it was very good! Now for the food, I usually order dim sum, a noodle dish, and a vegetable dish. For dim sum I really like their: Sticky rice and lotus leaf which is sweet rice and chicken steamed in a lotus leaf. The aromatics of this dish are amazing. Turnip Cakes- two fried turnip cakes cooked with pork. It's savory and delicious. Shrimp Dumpling with leek- this is my favorite dumpling here but you can't go wrong with any other of their dumplings, I just love Leek! Get the beef chow fun, just do it- it's amazing and tastes authentic. It's enough noodles to feed two people, so I'd recommend sharing family-style. For vegetables, I usually go with the vegetable deluxe, which usually has Chinese broccoli, carrots, baby bok choy, and tons of other greens. Vegetables really complete the meal, do your grandma proud and eat some veggies!

Yelp
Ever since I have moved to the area I have been looking for good chinese food and I have finally found it! We came here for lunch and it was fairly busy. We were seated quickly. Their hot tea comes out in the nostalgic metal pots and tea cups, so I knew I was in for what I was looking for! We shared Pork Chow Fun, Pecan Shrimp, Kung Pow Chicken and Sweet and Sour pork. Everything was delicious and we hardly had any leftovers. Everything tasted delicious and exactly what I was looking for in a Chinese restaurant. I cannot wait to come back!
google avatar

Thomas O.

Yelp
Darn good food. Service was good, food came out hot. If you haven't been, give it a try, you'll like it!
google avatar

Yelp
Really enjoyed our meal on a rainy night out in downtown. Felt like we were in NYC. Hot tea, yummy food and cozy booths. Will be back!
google avatar

Hollie L.

Yelp
I can only give 4 stars because I got it to go. I feel as though to truly know if a place is 5 stars one would have to sit and enjoy the entire dining experience. Ordering was easy and didn't take long to retrieve food and pay once I arrived. My roommate and I got a little crazy as we wanted to try a bunch of items. Crab rangoons- I am super picky on these because I love them so much. These were ok and I'd get again if I went back. Potsticker- wholly moly were theirs HUGE and very flavorful. Would get again. Kung Pao Chicken- lots of flavor. Good amount of breading to sauce ratio. Broccoli was perfect Beef chow fun- I wish I had ordered without the green peppers. To me it overpowered the flavor. Orange Chicken- I actually liked that they put the orange sauce on the side so the chicken didn't get soggy. It wasn't my favorite orange sauce but I'm not a huge fan of orange chicken so please don't base trying on my opinion. Pork Fried rice was delicious! I love a good fried rice and this hit the spot! Yes two people really ordered all of that and have been munching on delicious leftovers for two days

Yelp
Went here for dinner on lunar new year. Everything tasted great, and there's still more I'd like to try. Service was solid, even though the server was obviously very busy. Best Chinese in Boise I've tried so far.

Cristina O.

Yelp
We ordered dim sum for Sunday lunch. It was good. Really enjoyed the Har Gow. Had black mushroom with bamboo shoots and vegetables was good too. Even ordered food to go for other family members and they liked it as well.
google avatar

Kathy R.

Yelp
The food is always hot and service is very good. We eat there every time we are in Boise.
google avatar

Hashintha J.

Yelp
The dim sum was fabulous. Especially recommend the pork buns and requesting chili oil for it. The flavors were spectacular.

Justin H.

Yelp
Food was really good, service was impeccably fast, and restaurant was clean (even if it's a bit dated). Jennea was a great server and overall had a great experience. Will return soon!

Steve Z.

Yelp
I've been eating here for years and have never had a bad experience. The place is a little dated and sometimes they struggle with having enough staff but the food has always been consistent and good. If you are looking for fancy, this may not be your place. If you are looking for a good meal at a reasonable price, this is the place to go.
google avatar

Jill L.

Yelp
Good food. We tried the hot & sour soup. I'm very picky about this soup & it was perfect. Next spring rolls. They were good, sauce should have been a bit thicker, but good flavor, pork & seeds normal and last we tried the pot stickers. Lil burnt on one said but the filling inside was delicious
google avatar

Alicia R.

Yelp
Walked past this place many times and didn't even think of going in. I saw it on a best list and decided to try it out. Definitely have a hard time finding good Chinese food. Wow this place brew us away!! They have a bar plenty of seating and great staff. Now the food. Well let's say every bite was excellent! The duck was a treat. I know it's not for everyone but you have to try it. The ribs were mouthwatering with plenty of meat on them. Pork chow mien was excellent. The chicken fried rice is the best we've had. Orange chicken was good as well with plenty of sauce and flavor. Double fried noodles are something most places don't make or get very wrong. Not this place it was the perfect mix of crunchy and soft noodles. This by far is the best Chinese food in all of Idaho
google avatar

carla P.

Yelp
Yummy! Always consistent . We have been enjoying Yen Ching's for years. Owner is a great guy and is always working. Food is best Chinese in Boise

Kerri W.

Yelp
New to Boise and Yen Cheng came recommended. We were not disappointed. Our waitress was pleasant and efficient. We ordered wonton soup, Kung Pao Chicken and Gan Shiao Beef. Both the dishes were fabulous - good quality, good flavor, good portions and fresh vegetables. The wonton soup was mediocre and pricey for the portion size. We'll definitely go back!
google avatar

Peter L.

Yelp
We love this place. The service is always great. The server even goes to the bar and gets honey for my wife's tea. I enjoy the crispy fried wanton and the Yen Ching fried rice is super. We've also had the orange chicken (a fried sliced breast, shrimp with lobster sauce, shrimp with vegetables, and egg drop soup. Everything is always tasty. We do take out some times, equally good, but dining in the last two times has been even more enjoyable. It's a busy place on Sunday nights.
google avatar

Sylvia M.

Yelp
Drove through Boise and was pleasantly surprised to find this gem. This establishment is clean and offers a variety of authentic Chinese dishes and dim sum. The server (didn't catch her name) was extremely patient and friendly.
google avatar

Jason G.

Yelp
I travel often with work up and down the west coast so get great Chinese food in LA, SF, Vancouver and Seattle. Compared to those places this food is about 2 stars tops. But since I'm in Boise I'll give it a fair 3. Lower rating is also due to very slow service, the girl who has the arm tat seems confused every time I ask her for something simple (same server a few months ago), and the Asian dude who is always here (assuming the owner) has the personality and friendliness of a tree stump - limited hellos to guests and just runs around with his ballcap on and head hung low. Be a little more friendly / outgoing - it's the simple things that can elevate this place.
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
I stumbled across this delish establishment by recommendation, and it has been very good every time. I've enjoyed ramen, eggs rolls, egg drop soup, wonton soup, and Thai basil fried rice. Each time I have been pleasantly surprised by the quality and flavor of the food. Top this off with excellent service both at the table and ordering take away, drives this delightful establishment to receive five stars. Tip: Do not be in a hurry, let's be real no one should ever be in a hurry going into a restaurant - quality takes time.

Yelp
I know things are rough right now in the service industry, but due to the combination of poor service and mediocre food, I will not be going back to Yen Ching any time soon. Arrived at noon on a Sunday, we were the second table seated, and we were a party of two. Service was excruciatingly slow, as there was only one server, with another person (maybe the manager?) seating people and answering the phone. Ordered the potstickers and fried shrimp as the appetizer, we received the shrimp first and then got the potstickers 15 min. later. I had to ask for a drink menu, and the cocktail didn't have much alcohol or taste. Waited at least 1/2 hour for our lunch, and then the server brought our bill to us, so clearly the main dishes were forgotten. She asked if the manager (I'm assuming he was the manager) brought our food to us, we said no, and then she just took off from our table. I flagged down the manager and asked if our food was coming, he said there was a mix-up in the kitchen and our food was being prepared. We waited another 10 minutes and finally got our sweet and sour chicken and mu shu pork. The mu shu pork was surprisingly cold and rather bland. In total, it took 1 hour and 40 minutes for our lunch. Honestly, if the food was hot and delicious, I wouldn't have minded the super long wait and confusion in the kitchen, but I've gotten better food elsewhere for half the price and a quarter of the wait time!
google avatar

Jocelyn L.

Yelp
The pan fried noodles was a disappointment, but to be fair, I grew up in San Francisco. Still searching for a decent Chinese restaurant in ID.
google avatar

T W.

Yelp
Food is 4/5 but man the service is a 0/5. Didn't refill drinks never checked up on us. Next time I will be doing carry out.

Jeff L.

Yelp
we waited 60 minutes to get seated then another 60 to get the food. The food was just fair. Nothing special. The martini I had was really watered down but they did comp.me .
google avatar

Bridget W.

Yelp
A place in Boise where you can get dim sum! This place is so amazing!!! They don't have a huge selection, obviously, but it does the job. They were out of shumai, so that was a huge disappointment. Everything we had was tasty. Hopefully they start bringing more dim sum to the menu!

James S.

Yelp
Food quality and consistency can be counted on at Yen Ching. You can depend on the dishes to be as you want them. The service is great. Various table sizes and a pleasant ambiance make anything from a couples night out to a family get-togethereasily accomodated. Ample portions. Traditional recipies and authentic preparation - the perfect pairing for decent dining.
