The New Business Traveler: Sabah's Mickey Ashmore Goes to Turkey for Inspiration, Materials, and Community

"There's a traditional yogurt-based soup with chickpeas, spices, and little chunks of lamb meat that I always eat in Gaziantep. It's called Yuvalama. It can be found all over but I usually go to Yesemek in the old bazaar."

This was the most unique food I ate in Turkey. The alaca çorba was very sour and fantastic, the garlic kebap also a unique taste, aubergine kebap not bad either. One waitress knows enough english and very kindly showed me that I need to smash the garlic, not eat it all lol. I eat there 3 times, however one time I chose the mix of dishes in small bowls and left unsatisfied, I wouldn’t eat as a full meal any of the samples.

Yesemek Restaurant – The True Taste of Gaziantep If you’re searching for the real, unforgettable taste of Gaziantep cuisine, look no further than Yesemek Restaurant. From the very first bite, it’s clear this place honors the rich culinary heritage of the region with passion and authenticity. I had the chance to try their yuvalama, kuru patlıcan dolması, and kuru biber dolması—and I was truly impressed. The yuvalama was delicate and deeply flavorful, a dish that speaks of tradition and home cooking. The stuffed dried eggplant and peppers were both perfectly textured, bursting with that signature Antep spice blend that balances richness, heat, and depth. These are dishes that many try to make, but few get right—and Yesemek absolutely nailed them. One unique detail that stood out: the soup spoon they served was unexpectedly heavy and elegant, adding a surprising touch of quality to the meal. It made the experience feel more refined and thoughtful—even in the smallest things, they don’t compromise. The kebabs and other dishes looked amazing too—clearly grilled with expertise. The ambiance is cozy and welcoming, and the staff are friendly, attentive, and proud of what they serve. You can tell this is a place built on generational flavors and genuine hospitality. Yesemek is not just a meal, it’s a journey into the heart of Gaziantep. Whether you’re new to Turkish cuisine or a lifelong lover of Antep flavors, this restaurant is a must-visit.

The restaurant offers a great selection of traditional Antep cuisine. All the food tasted was of great and seemed very authentic, they go beyond the typical dishes served throughout the city and offer seriously special dishes. Considering that this is Gaziantep the vegetarian options are impressive and the spot is a must visit for anyone who wants to taste typical meatless dishes from the region. As a tourist visiting the dining experience equaled an insight to the local cuisine and was worth the price, which is higher than the go to kebab. Highly recommend to anyone visiting Gaziantep from abroad and/or vegetarians!

Very good place for those wanting vegetarian dishes and small plates. I had the Beyran (lamb soup) which was excellent. Half portions available to try out several dishes. The only negative is that if you arrive too early, not all items on the menu are ready. Get there too late and you have an insane wait. The place is not very big.

Awesome dinner in gazantiep. Was able to sample small portions of all the local dishes. Utterly delicious and unique flavour combinations all washed down with a big ayran!

An excellent spot to enjoy authentic cuisine! I had the Beyran, and it was absolutely delicious—rich, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The staff were friendly and accommodating, adding a personal touch to the experience. The restaurant itself has a genuine and authentic atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to try traditional dishes in a welcoming setting!

The food was served smaller portion to foreigners.. I ordered a garbanzo soup Mini bulgar balls were missing. The amount was served smaller than the usual and the price was incredibly high which I figured that out when I was paying because you are clueless, it is not informed in advance. It’s not worth it. You will get a better quality and more food somewhere else for that price… I asked for the bill they ask you to go to the register ..while she’s ringing up at the register you need to review the amount of each food on the screen basically you’re right there stuck to whatever price she has to ring up and you should agree and pay you cannot argue about it She’s asking you to view the receipt on the screen Instead of giving you a paper receipt. I have never seen anything like this In my life, no restaurants would do this once I paid the amount I asked for a receipt. She did not give me a detailed receipt for each plate that I ordered. She just gave me a lump sum credit card total that I paid no details at all. This is cheating to the customers I’m forcing you to pay the amount whatever it is .. I will never go there again. I don’t recommend anyone because it’s not worth it. Overpriced and does not taste good I have had better ones somewhere else. Please go to ORKIDE IT IS MUCH BETTER.. I asked for firik rice Oh my God the vegetables inside tasted old had a weird taste not fresh😞 I feel very sad when I’m cheated.. even though I spoke the language.

This is a very busy restaurant with great vegetarian options. If you are looking to try traditional Antep dishes but don’t eat meat, I would highly recommend it.
