I came here once when I first moved to Seattle, which was probably 11 years ago. I recalled not feeling too ecstatic at the time but might be more because I was a super broke student back then and the prices didn't appeal to my wallet haha.
We came here for dinner last night and I was surprised seeing the work that they had done to the place. It used to look pretty standard and outdated, but this place looks really hip and alive now. When we entered the restaurant, we were greeted by the smell of food and smoke from all the bbq tables, which I wasn't too thrilled about since I was just fresh out of shower lol. A really friendly woman greeted us at the door and asked if we wanted to sit at a BBQ table but told us that they had a non-BBQ grill table open right now and that we could still order their BBQ items and they'll just cook for us in the kitchen. As we were starving, we immediately agreed to that.
The place is dimly lit and their menu was a little hard to read in the lighting - or maybe my eyes are simply just going (RIP my eyes). I ordered their Seafood Korean Pancake or starter (but they call it Korean Pizza in their menu which I did find confusing). My husband ordered his must-have Kimchi Tofu Soup with Pork but he requested the soup to not come with any kimchi. When his soup came, the server who took our order hurriedly came to our table to check if his soup had any kimchi or not. While he was still busy umm-ing to that question, she already spotted some kimchi in the soup and quickly took the soup away, saying they'd do it right. That was an amazing preemptive effort which was very much appreciated. The second time the soup came, it was perfect and my husband was a happy camper who drank it up.
You get 6 banchans here. At the time of our visit we got kimchi, tofu skin, bokchoy in gojuchang, broccolli with sesame-gojuchang sauce, bean sprouts, and one banchan I think was a white seaweed noodle salad. Like many other korean restaurants now, they brought the banchan out together with main dish. Fortunately we didn't have to wait too long for our dishes to come cause again, we were starving when we got here.
For main dish, we ordered Marinated Boneless Galbi and Spicy BBQ Pork. Pricewise, having been to more korean restaurants around the area, I think that their prices are quite competitive. Specially if you compare to the other korean restaurant across the street. Also similar portion size. We enjoyed the Spicy BBQ Pork very much, super flavorful and have that charcoal smell and taste. Can't really say the same thing about the Galbi, which is usually my favorite dish. I think the flavor could have been better and stronger. It was a little on the bland side.
The staffs are super friendly. The older woman came to our table to check up on us twice to really make sure everything was to our liking. Overall, the food is quite good, the ambience in the restaurant is lively and enjoyable although I'm not a fan of the smoke-filled air. Our bill came to about $85 for two people so I'm not gonna say it's cheap either but still comparable to the competitor in the area.
