Bomb! The hole in the wall joints are always the best. The street event really shortened their menu, but the enchiladas were really good. I'll definitely go back on a normal day. I heard the local city councilman frequents the place, I will too because the food was that good!

Small family owned restaurant one of my favorite places to eat I normally order the Menudo or the Cocido (Caldo de Res) The Pollo en Mole is also very good.

One of my favorite spots in Boyle Heights for comida casera. Food is delicious and staff is very friendly. I have tried their chilaquiles, sopes, tacos and quesadillas. Everything has been delicious! Their tacos and quesadillas use tortillas a mano. The quesadilla is huge, not you're average size quesadilla. Their salsa roja is spicy and very tasty. The salsa roja for their chilaquiles is very tasty as well. I tried the salsa verde as well, but I prefer red. Their drink selection isn't the best, but it'll do. In addition to bottled sodas, they also have coffee that is made in a regular coffee maker. Nothing outstanding in the beverage department, but that's not the reason I'm there anyhow lol. They do have public restrooms that although may look a little intimidating, are kept clean. The restaurant is located in a block that hosts a range of other businesses and is across from the iconic Mariachi Plaza, which leads me to my next point. Parking is very limited, there is metered street parking available, but just like any other place in LA, it can be a hassle finding parking. I highly recommend either taking a rideshare service, public transportation such as the train that drops you off right across from the restaurant or walking. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible but the entrance is a bit cluttered with stuff so it may be a little difficult to get through the door if you are entering in a wheelchair. The restroom is also at the end of a small hallway that may be very difficult for someone in a wheelchair to get to. There is seating inside as well as some seating outside. The establishment accepts all forms of payment. They offer takeout as well. The restaurant is owned by a Latino family, happy to support them.

Excellent authentic Mexican food. Hand made tortillas . Everything we had was great tasting . The place is small and a bit outdated but clean and has an A rating. Will definitely go back.

I really enjoyed the breakfast burrito and coffee. The atmosphere is friendly but inside it’s a little tight other than that I really recommend this restaurant 10 out of 10 in my book.

Delicious! I felt I was in my Tia’s kitchen having her amazing food that warms the heart and fills the tummy. I wish I had more estómagos to have tried more dishes. Definitely returning!

Let's start with the food. I had a nopal quesadilla and it was delicious! The freshly made (in front of my eyes!) pico de gallo was outstanding! The Mexican coke just rounded the meal! I felt pure joy! The service: stellar! I felt cared for, not even sure if my item was on-menu/off-menu but I asked for something and it was made to order. The family dynamic of sons and mom made me feel warm and welcome! My only critique is that the place, as a whole, is a hole-in-the-wall and kinda a tight space. However, if it was any bigger, they'd lose their vibe.

Stopped here with some friends who initially wanted to eat at another place nearby, but when their menu didn't fit our group we came here and everyone LOVED it. Hands down amazing food made right in front of you, fresh ingredients and fair portions for a very good price. I got a couple of sopas with chicken, which was just the right size for me. My friends who ordered the chile relleno got huge plates of food. Tacos were good size for lunch. Small dining area, not the best for comfort, or décor, but so good you won't mind. Not so easy to find parking nearby but worth it. Definitely lives up to all the 5 star reviews. :D

Excellent food! The service is amazing very nice people who work there very attentive. Food is made upon order I recommend dining in though seating is limited all the locals fill it at it is a popular place to eat.

No vegan options. The rice has chicken broth and beans contain lard. Not sure why Yelp indicates that there are vegan options, but I spoke to the employees who were very kind and concerned about dietary restrictions. I really appreciate their honesty. My friend who accompanied me to Yeya's Restaurant loved their huevos, rice, and beans. It's a very cute and small communal restaurant!

Needed to grab some breakfast white hanging with my mom at white memorial and came over for the chillaqulies and will say they are amazing .had the green and chips are crunchy which is always the key !came-with rice beans and for 10.99 u cannot go wrong .it's a small spot and don't u dare order to go and complain 30 min later they were soggy cold etc .eat there and I'm pretty sure they would hold up on the drive home though .rice and beans are great too .thanks Yeya's they reminded me of how mom use to make them .

Delicious food! I had chilaquiles and I was I'm comfort and delicious heaven. I would definitely recommend. Reminds me of my tía's food. It's a small family run restaurant, so there is a bit of a wait sometimes, but it is definitely worth the wait!

Needed sopa de fideo (popular Mexican noodle soup) for my mom who is hating hospital food. Their services was very attentive, friendly and accommodating. Hard to find the level of service and care they provided. They even personalized the soup with added cooked veggies of my choice (mom's choice really). The place is set up to an old fashioned diner and if I lived in the area I could see myself going here often enough that they would know my name. The fideo was very good, had a nice thickness that sometimes is missing when people make this soup. The added veggies were a bonus. Not too many places where you can find chayote. I will need to return and try other plates to give a more detailed review and I usually take a trip to the restroom to make sure they are also keeping up with their cleaning duties. Until next time! But, for now, go and enjoy the fideo.

Ramiro was an amazing waiter. The food was spectacular. Highly recommend the ribs! Also the biria soup.

Yeya's is great. Chilaquiles were killer, great eggs, hot fresh coffee. Mole is so good. It's a family business and the family are great people. It's totally chill, relaxed, the kitchen is right there in view and the skills on casual display are awesome. Thank you Yeya's.

Came here with my toddler son for the first time and they were very accommodating and friendly. We came for breakfast and their chilaquiles were delicious. I opted for the mole and it did not disappoint. Even the little dude loved it, along with the rice and beans. Great, small, "cozy" location where you can tell everyone who works there enjoys the service.

Great little spot with authentic Mexican food. My family and I really enjoy coming to this place for their breakfast. Our favorite plate to get is their Barbacoa. The sauce has a great flavor and reminds me of my mom's cooking with fresh hand made tortillas. Staff if friendly and inviting.

I work down the street from this place and I always order from here! Their food taste so authentic and delicious. I always order ahead of time by calling their phone number. They have a big selection of Mexican cuisine! Specially with being in east LA, you have Mexican food restaurants all over and this one really stands out from all of them. Their carne asada burrito is delicious!! I love this place and I will continue to go eat there! Highly recommend to anyone around ELA!

The food is authentic, fresh and flavorful. Call ahead of time because they do get busy. If is not in the menu ask to see if they can accommodate your request. Give your self a chance with this place.

Amazing and authentic Mexican food. This place makes you feel like your family kitchen. The service is fantastic. Their Caldo de Pollo is so good it comes with a lot of chicken and veggies with a small side of rice or beans, tortillas echas a mano, y cebolla, cilantro picado con limón a tu gusto, accompanied with hot salsa to your liking. A Must try if in L.A.

Chuleta de puerco en salsa de molcajete & the barbacoa plates were absolutely delicious. The tortillas were made fresh to order. Staff was extremely friendly; they made you feel like you're at your tias house. I had the agua fresca of the day which was fresa-strawberry soooooooooooo fresh and good! You could tell it was made that morning, the bits and slices of strawberry were still nice and firm. Definitely coming back to try more dishes, would recommend 110%. Note: it is a very small and humble restaurant, four booths only, a little warm inside, no beer but try this place. You won't regret it.

I initially came in here yesterday because I was in the area and wanted menudo. I went in too late and they were out. I ordered sopes de asada and Barbacoa instead. Holy cow, they were huge! They were really good too. My husband got a burrito which he liked as well. Recommend! Supporting small business

Chiles rellenos taste home made. Deliciously made with thin egg coating. Handmade tortillas and incredibly sweet staff.

Went there last year when I visited LA. I went there with my husband because I was craving some soups that day. Yeya's pop up on the search that around the airbnb that we rent. So we want to give it a try. I ordered the Caldo de res and my husband ordered Mole con pollo. The soup was really good, it has good amount of beef and vegetables and the flavor is exactly what I'm craving for. they served it with the rice and tortilla on the side. The Mole was good too I believed is in my husband yelp review lol. Will go there again next time we visit LA.

Home cooked meals. Great service. It's ran by a very friendly family. I go there all the time. And the prices are reasonable.

This is one of those places that's a hidden gen. It might not look like much, but don't let the outside appearance fool you. I was looking for something to eat in the middle of a long day. Given that I recently changed my diet, my food choices are limited. I looked at their menu and opted for the Nopal Tacos. They were delicious, flavorful and such a treat to eat. The hand made tortillas, nopal, tomato, onion and cilantro were amazing. I am deffinetly coming back.

Tiny place. If you are lucky you can find a place at the counter or at one of three (I think) booths. Next door to vegan joint where all the gringos crowd around. Vegan Mexican???? Bitch please...This place has the BEST food I have had in Boyle Heights so far. I have hesitated writing a review, because I don't wan't to see a line out the door like the vegan place. The chicken tomatillo enchiladas are so damn good. Much better than El Cholo's. And the menudo rojo to die for, plus pretty much everything else. I judge a place by their beans. Their frijoles are out of this world. You cannot go wrong with this authentic place. Forget overrated and over priced Guisados.

Chilaquiles were delicious, not spicy tho, could have used a kick! I ordered the chilaquiles plate with carne asada, it was very good next time trying the pork chop in Chile and the costillas as well! Homemade tortillas are good.

This great little gem is hidden across the street from the Mariachi Plaza. If you want that home cooked meal, but are too lazy or hungover on a Sunday, by all means make the trip. All offerings are made from scratch, including the masa for the ropes which are molded and cooked on the spot - these are my absolute favorite. They also have pozole, chiles rellenos, the list goes on and on. Lastly, I really like that they use square, since I'm always forgetting to carry cash.

Oh em gee!! Si hay un dios ! Yeya is a Godsend and I am so glad the universe presented this wonderful Mexican jewel to me. The place is seriously uuhhhmazing and reminds me of my moms cooking. For me to sit here and write that the food is comparable to my moms cooking is pretty much unheard of...it could also put me at risk of getting hit by my mom's chancla!! I sticking out my neck out by typing these words out this very minute.. jaja! In all seriousness, this place delivers a home style Mexican meal with a warm "back at home" feeling. The place has limited space but doesn't lack in taste and friendliness. Lots of locals and some encounters of mariachi members validates the fact that Yeya's is authentic and delicious and cheap! To the homemade tortillas , to the modest decor , to the warm service and the quaint feeling of the joint... I love everything about it! When friends come into town on the hunt for tasty homemade Mexican food, Yeyas falls on top of my restaurant list. I always turn to the beef soup (I swear it tastes identical to my moms and that's saying a lot!!) . I have also had the carne asada and the menudo and they are fantastic!!! I most recently tried the barbacoa and it was delicious!! I haven't tried anything that I didn't like! Hands down one of the best Mexican food joints I've been to in LA! I came on a Saturday morning for the chicken pozole and it was pretty good. 4/5 stars. It had a tender drumstick and thigh in it and red hominy instead of white. I like that you get a quarter of an avocado with it too. Unfortunately as other reviewers have noted it's not a very nice place inside. It was hot and uncomfortable with no A/C so I opted to eat outside where they have 2 tables in the shade. The owner Betty was there cooking and she seemed pretty nice.

Definitely a hit or miss kind of place. My first time eating here and it was a miss. Overpriced for mediocre food. Had an egg and bean burrito for breakfast and the cashier looked at the owner to confirm it was $4 before she charged me and the owner answered no $8 and $4 for an orange juice. For that price I was expecting a delicious burrito. Instead I was served a burrito that needed salt. Sometimes you overlook the negative appearance for delicious food, but this definitely is not the case. This place is not a gem.

The only thing that kept me from giving this place 5 stars was the dining room size, the lack of fountain drinks (they have can and bottled soda) and the rice. The rice was lacking a bit of flavor. My wife and I ordered enchiladas and a quesadilla. We saw the cook hand make the tortillas, throw some meat on the grill and put everything together. There is no substitute for that kind of quality! The beans, quesadilla and enchiladas were delicious. Small place about 30-40 min from home but we will definitely be coming back for seconds!

She's perfectly content on running this restaurant by herself. I had the chile relleno while friends had the chilaquiles. The tortillas are hand-made and come out nice and thick. Payment by card is accepted. It's not a roomy spot but you can see your food being prepared right in front of you.

Yeya's you have left me utterly impressed! I recently just had THE BEST vegetarian burrito I have ever tasted here at this humble establishment. As it has been mentioned already, coming to Yeya's fills you with the nostalgia and feeling that you are in your grandma's kitchen. This is definitely a no frills kind of place, but what it lacks in swank it definitely makes up for in quality, flavor, and ultimately hospitality. The burrito I had was jam packed with beans, rice, cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and a generous serving of avocado. I must note that I am sure that there definitely was at least half of a medium avo in there which was a total surprise! I honestly didn't look at the price on the menu but I was anticipating this Chipotle sized burrito to be at least $7 so I was incredibly shocked when the bill came out to $5 flat. Such a steal!! What I loved the most about the menu is that they offer SO MANY Lent friendly options! (enchiladas, veggie burritos, tacos de nopal, and even pozole de camaron which I really want to try!) I came here at around 11 on a Friday morning and service was very very prompt, though I would assume from so many great reviews that this may not always be the case. There also isn't much seating so I'm wondering if I just got really lucky. Just something to keep in mind.

Excellent homemade Mexican food. As a Colombian transplant from NYC, I don't have too much grounding to make this judgment, but my partner is an LA born and raised daughter of Mexican parents. She ranked the pozole just below her mother, her aunt's, and her grandmother's in Mexico, and says she has not found a better pozole in LA. It was not canned hominy, and the broth was not too thick. The meat tasted fresh, and onions, radish, and lettuce were all also fresh. We also had the quesadilla with pollo, and taco de camarones. The tortillas were freshly made for both. The taco had a great amount of shrimp, and the salsa was delicious. It also had chopped pieces of cooked green pepper. Excellent. The quesadilla was nothing out of this world, but all the elements were great. With two half-litros of coke in a glass bottle, we paid just $20!!! We were able to sit at two little tables outside. The restaurant is right in front of Mariachi Plaza and has a great view of downtown straight down 1st. I will definitely be returning when I find myself close to Boyle Heights!

Ordered the pozole and it was great. I've been here for a Ciclavia event and had to come back. Service was great, owner brought out some apples sprinkled with limón y sal, insisted we had some - they were really tasty. Only thing - no AC.

Amazing customer service, the ladies are so sweet! They make it feel like home. Food is so delicious The Jericallas ( Jalisco flan) its a delicious desert. They taste just like the ones from Guadalajara

Ordered costillas en salsa de molcajete and a pozole, All was good to much corn in the pozole, it would taste better if it had meat with bone and more salt , putting salt on a cooked dish just looses the flavor

This has to be one of the best little Mexican restaurants in 90033. Real authentic Mexican food made right in front of you. They bring out the masa and you can watch them make your tortillas. My favorite is the red enchilada combo. Only drawback is parking very hard to find.

This review is for the chiles rellenos, taco de frijol y queso, and agua de fresa. Some of the best chiles rellenos I've had. And the tortillas omfg - just the best homemade tortillas ever. Everything single thing I had was divine. The service was great too, the ladies that work there are so nice! Go, experience, and fall in love.

Wow...this place is it. I'm still in disbelief that it took me so long to try this place out. What the hell was I waiting for? Maybe I used the lack of parking as an excuse for far too long. The food is phenomenal. All of the tortillas are made by hand, which tells you that you're in for a good meal. We tried the pozole, a carne asada sope and a barbacoa quesadilla. Everything was amazing and tasted homemade. The sope was one of the best I've had. First of all, it was huge! Second, the masa was so tender it practically melts in your mouth. The quesadilla was packed full of flavor. The barbacoa was tender, juicy and seasoned with all the right spices. The pozole was a white pozole with white and purple hominy. It was really tasty and did not disappoint. We went on a Saturday night and there was only one other family there. The place is tiny and has limited seating. I'm not sure how long the wait would be with a full house.

I luv coming here to get a bowl of sopa de fideo that only they have whenever I'm craving one. Their other dishes are delicious as well. Everything from their caldo de pollo to enchiladas to chilaquiles and handmade tortillas. Great community spot to support!!

I've been wanting to try this place for months, finally yesterday night was my first time with my boyfriend. I ordered the taquito plate with potatoes and he ordered the pozole with chicken. ***This review is based on food only not service.*** Well, I've read the wonderful reviews and I wonder if they had a bad cooking day. The hominy was cooked on a frying pan and the cook put two undercooked chicken legs on the broth. We had asked if the pozole was red and we were told yes. Upon served the pozole was not red it was a chicken broth with cold hominy. With chunks of skin. For the taquito plate. Well I wasn't saved. The beans smelled over due like if they were days old. The rice was decent and my taquitos had no potatoes and the tortilla was drenched in oil. The only good thing was the horchata and their salsa roja. I wish our food would've compare to the reviews I love home cook meals but this was not the experience. Constructive criticism here. The waiter and cook (same guy) needs some retraining. And perhaps cook a fresh batch of beans daily.

Attention Yeya's owner and staff! The guy that is working tonight on 10/6/17 needs to be retrained. I placed a order for 2 bean and cheese burritos.Simple right? Well I was told they would take 10 mins to make.Cool! I'm watching the Dodger game so no hurry.I drop my bf off (since parking is awful & it's too dangerous to walk over there this late at night) 25 mins later and the tortillas weren't even on the stove! Why take phone orders if the food isn't going to be ready when you claim it will be? Plus this isn't the first time this kid has had attitude.Just hire someone who needs/ wants a job instead of trying to save some cash by hiring family and losing business in the process. Yeyas I'll be going to Santa Cecilia across the street from now on.

The chalkboard [limited] menu shows their focus & flexibility. This is not a fast food place, everything is made to order so it takes a bit of time. The 4 booths & counter stools are next to the kitchen where you can watch as your meal is prepared. Each time I've come for dinner the smell of roasting pasilla chiles has welcomed me. The familiar crackle tickled my senses as they roasted & I ate my meal. The fragrance reminds me of my Dad's birthdays because that's the only time my Mom slaves herself to make chile rellenos. lol They let me change the channel to watch the novelas on #34 but I was warned the over the air antenna sometimes goes out. I look around in disbelief. Am I home?! lol Food: I proclaim my creator with every bite for each gives me flashbacks my Mami, Abuelita's & Tia's cooking! The flavors are excessively familiar so I had to ask where the owners are originally from. Holy smokes! They are from exactly the same city as my family, Guadalajara! Thus their weekend menudo has NO hominy! lol My taste buds take me through rides down Guadalajara streets: Periferico, Federalismo, Avila Camacho! Flashed through a worm hole I am suddenly at my Tia Gelo's (RIP) kitchen & her laughter fills the room. I take another bite & I am zoomed to my Tia Reyes' ranch where she's patting corn masa & cooking them on the comal over a wood fire to make quesadillas using queso fresco from the cows grazing next door. Another bite and I'm flashed to my Abuelita's (RIP) house where she would ask me to eat more. Virgen de Zapopan! Please don't pinch me, I must be dreaming! Lol They typically let you know off the menu dishes or specials as soon as you are seated. Everything is made to order but owners mentioned that if you are craving something off the menu & they have all the ingredients available they will prepare it for you. Highly recommended: (will edit as I try the rest of the menu) - Home made & home brewed aguas frescas, no fountain junk here. Flavors vary daily so ask when ordering. - Chile rellenos (regular sauce & one w nopales/cactus) - Caldo de pollo (chicken soup, has chayote/pear squash), zucchini, carrots, & potato) - Caldo de res (beef stew has nearly the same veggies as the chicken soup) - Enchilada plate - Sopes (hand made, not fried by request!) - Sopa de fideo (noodle soup) - Quesadillas - Champurrado - Home made salsas (careful, spicy!) - Pozole salsa wakes the dead! I love this place. Right across my sisters apartment. The food is always good and at an extremely affordable price. One of the last real Mexican restaurants located near mariachi plaza. Homemade and great. Be sure to order through Yelp for fast pickup!

Great authentic Mexican food. I order the soups whenever I'm sick and reminds me of my grandmothers cooking!

This place is dirty as hell, like you can see the dirt on the walls, on the floor, grease smudge and years of not cleaning are evident on every wall. Stacks of boxes in the kitchen greet you nicer then the people working there. I'm a Venezolano and came in here with the fam asking for Menudo, my mom wanted "pata" in it and upon asking the lady barks at us saying that they don't have any more "pata" left. Not even 5 min later a guy comes in and asks for Menudo con pata and they give it to him nor problem. I ordered a Lengua plate and I'm not sure they have ever cooked tongue because it was like trying to eat a piece of rubber instead of a delicious chunk of meat that falls apart in your mouth. In my opinion way over priced for the bad customer service, bad cooking and dirty environment .

Great service! I had the chilaquiles and a taco de barbacoa. Both were delicious. It's a small place, so next time I'll place my order to go.

I have heard positive feedbacks from my friends about this restaurant. My girlfriend and I were at the Hollenbeck Park and I have watched through the google search and I have seen Yeya's Restaurant and we decided to try. Staff very pleasant and smiling, immediately it became clear that we've come to the right place. Two Quesadillas were cooked pretty quickly and the ingredients did not raise any questions and it was really tasty. So I can strongly recommend this place without any doubts. Very tasty, fast and quite cheap. By the way, my girlfriend does not like mexican food in general but I did not hear any complaints from her!)

Came across this fondita while attending a festival in Mariachi Plaza on a Sunday evening. Damn! Was I glad we found this place. The pozole was on point! Flavorful and warm, came with all the condiments necessary to dress it the right way. The very talented lady in the kitchen was same one to take our order, felt like I was in my grandma's kitchen there for a bit. She was very attentive and welcoming. My whole fam enjoyed their dishes. Kids had usual rice and beans with a taco de asada. My lady had the red enchiladas. Next time we find ourselves in Boyle Heights, I will definitely make a stop here to visit la doñita and her wonderful flavors.
