Where to Eat Greek Food in Philadelphia | Eater Philly

"For a quick and delicious Greek meal, Yia fits the bill. This fast-casual spot in Media features an open kitchen where diners can watch their gyros, souvlaki, and Greek salads get made. The sandwiches are served on soft pitas and spanakopita is a house specialty." - Sarah Maiellano

Yia yia's Greek Cafe East 69th Street. If you're in the neighborhood, give yia yia's a try. Fresh salads are available daily, with fresh ingredients and a nice size feta. The pork gyro was disappointing it was dry. Today was a miss. If you're in the neighborhood, give yia a try.

Coming straight here from Uber Eats to complain about my delivery. Just look at the baklava and galaktoboureko they sent me- enough said. Don’t even get me started on the moussaka.

Travis Ruse

Google
The falafel sandwich was very bland and dry. Large slices of lettuce just fall right out of the tasteless pita. The hot sauce I received was for tacos. The spanakopita was soggy and also lacking flavor. The staff was very nice though. I wanted to change my order after we paid and they swapped out an item happily. The dinning room is really nice with big windows. I’d love to come back and eat here if the food made the trip worth it. Sadly it doesn’t.

Google
The place was clean and the service was immediate and quick. The food tastes extremely fresh but the grape leaves were bland and the Greek salad was mostly leaves. Hardly any tomatoes, onions or cucumbers. The feta cheese was only four small pieces. However, the falafel and hummus were delicious!

Google
One of my go-to spots in the neighborhood for a real meal. For the price, you can't beat the quality and portion sizes.

Google
I ordered catering for delivery to a nearby university for a post-seminar lunch. The quantity & quality of food exceeded my expectations. The staff were very satisfied with their meal! Yia Yia's staff were very communicative to ensure a great catering experience.

Stepped in here for lunch the other day and was pleasantly surprised by how good and fresh the food was. And holy! They give a lot of food for your money! My lamb abd gyro plate with a side of brown rice was absolutely delicious! So much flavor in the meat and the rice was very yum! I enjoyed every bite and had to take nearly half home for dinner. This is mostly a to go place with a few seats. I'll be back for sure

We came as a group and ordered a variety of dishes to share, and every single plate was a hit. The stuffed peppers were bursting with flavor, the spanakopita was flaky and rich, and the gyro was perfectly seasoned and juicy. But the real standout? The final dish we tried the lemon potatoes-absolutely unforgettable. Authentic, fresh, and made with so much care, you can taste the tradition in every bite. A true gem.👌

Yelp
Not sure why this place is only 3.9 stars because this is my go to delivery night place for greek food fix! Our usual order: Lemon soup Gyro platter with fries Beet salad Everything is super tasty but I highly recommend these three dishes. Very filling and all three come with pita bread. I wish they give u extra tzatziki bc it is really good flavor and texture. Much better than souvlaki GR

Yelp
I've ordered out from here several times and it's a great way to maintain a healthy moment while also getting to eat out. Their platters are the way to go, and I like to get their chicken (which is solid, bright, no complaints) and their greek lemon potoatoes (oh so soft). It's quite a lot of food for the price and that's what keeps me coming back, along with how tasty everything is. I've also gotten their stuffed grape leaves (dolmades) and they were tasty too, and definitely hit the spot. If you like greek food and don't want to go all the way to astoria and are in the UES, I would definitely recommend Yia Yia's. Unfortunately I haven't been in person yet so I can't speak to that but I will definitely be going back when I need food before my night shifts. Keep it up Yia Yia's! You are a regular on my GrubHub.

Yelp
Definitely fresh and authentic Greek food. The owner came out and was telling us how he gets the octopus . Has a small, but personal dining room. I would highly recommend the moussaka as well.
google avatar

Alison A.

Yelp
Quick service and the skewers were juicy, flavorful and fairly priced. They also each came with a ton of pita! Would recommend for a quick bite

Yelp
My friend and I got lunch from this place last week. It was close by to his workplace. The place had ample seating, but we decided to get our food and go back to his workplace. It was busy in there. It was my first time there. I ordered the Greek Salad with grilled chicken breast (o Protein), which was about $20. The salad comes with vinegar and tzaziki sauce. The salad was good. My friend ordered soulaki with beef and we split a spanakopita. The food was decent.
google avatar

Yelp
My husband and I got the chicken and pork. The pork was a bit juicier than the chicken. The chicken was a bit dry by itself. It's fine with the pita and sauce. The salad is good and I love the French fries! It was really crispy and seasoned. I had the salad and fries together so it's like Greek fries! It was very filling. You order the food at the cashier and the workers bring the food to the table which was nice. It's got comfortable seats. Pretty clean.

Yelp
I ordered delivery from here the other night. I got a chicken souvlaki platter. It came with 2 large chicken kebabs, lemon potatos, greek salad, pita, and taziki sauce. The food was delivered super fast, and it was a great weeknight dinner. Will definitely be ordering from Yia Yia's again.

Yelp
Pretty standard fare for Greek food. The space is nice with plenty of seating. I especially recommend their dolmades!

Yelp
Thought I reviewed it already. For us out-of-towners, the Q train extension opened up a whole culinary world. The platters are consistently good here, so much so that I can't speak to the other options. I believe I've gotten beef/lamb gyro, pork gyro and chicken souvlaki. These include salad, pita and a side, you'll want lemon potatoes if available. Very impressive to find something this appealing within the fast-casual paradigm.
google avatar

Erik B.

Yelp
Fast, comprehensive service with plenty of affordable, Greek food options, including salads, pastries, and lamb gyros on my other items. The Gyro itself is actually tasty and not too dry, spiced well and accompanied by an abundance of additional toppings. The desserts are homemade and the salads are full of ingredients that make it totally worth your while. The cashier can be a bit disorganized with delivery and takeout orders (they're very busy!) so make sure you double check your bag of food. There's plenty of seating indoors, but it gets busy fast, so be sure to keep your eyes out. Overall a good experience and a place worth checking out, especially if you're required to remain close to the Cornell Hospital. There are other Greek food places in the local area so there is fierce competition. .

Yelp
Stopped in on a Saturday night for a quick bite. Place was somewhat empty. Ordered the moussaka plate with side of fries. Took about 10 minutes or so for the food to come out. Serving size was enormous. Flavor-wise, not the best moussaka I've ever had, could use some more seasoning, but it was decent. Side Greek salad that comes with the entree was fresh and delicious. No complaints about the fries. Service was great. It's a good spot for quick, reliable Greek if you're in the area.

Yelp
Yes again to take out or sit down fast food style Greek cafe. Gyro and salad please. They don't sell the sandwich combo but will make your gyro salad sandwich style rolled in pita if asked. They offered. Ok so tip the guys as they are super nice and super accommodating.... flavor and freshness are good.

Yelp
Food 4/5 - It's not Astoria, but if you're looking for a reasonably priced, filling, and relatively nutritious meal in this neighborhood it hits the spot. The option of lemon potatoes as a side really drew me in. Pricing 4.5/5 - Only $15 for a huge plate of lamb-beef gyro with lemon potatoes and a Greek salad, which is enough that I took home leftovers. Service 5/5 - The guys behind the counter weren't Greek (Albanian) but they were really nice, kindly giving me a cup for water and several to-go box options. Ambiance 4/5 - lots of tables and the long layout means you can take your time to eat.

Yelp
Gotten take out here a couple times and its always hit the spot! I'll get really random cravings for Greek food and every time I get their greek herb salad with gyro meat. Veggies are usually fresh with a nice ratio of feta cheese, olives, herbs, and cucumbers. The gyro meat is very tasty. Its on the saltier side but goes well with the salad and also with pita. Their tzatziki sauce is pretty standard and pita is soft when warmed. Their spanakopita is pretty solid with a nice blend of seasoned spinach, herbs, and feta cheese. Unfortunately with take out, its hard to eat it fresh and warm but overall good for what its worth! The chicken souvlaki is a little too dry for my liking but my partner prefers it that way. It is well-seasoned and the plates come with side salad as well as a side (french fries, potatoes, or rice). The restaurant itself is pretty spacious and bright with pretty quick service. Good range of veggie vs meat options and satisfies my cravings!

Yelp
Haven't been to the restaurant, but I get delivery regularly. It's the best Gyro platter on the east side.
google avatar

Sabrina P.

Yelp
Quality has gone down and prices exorbitant. Food is not fresh anddd I found a hair in it last time.

Yelp
Love this kind of no-frills Greek food. Yia Yia's offers a variety of combo's, whether it's salad, souvlaki, or gyro. The meats are seasoned well, the sides are okay, and the pita is great.

Lea T.

Yelp
Got this delivered and it literally cured my life. Sick and over worked? Not anymore my yia yia just made me souvlaki. Thank you thank you thank you. Tastes just like home.
google avatar

Kristen G.

Yelp
Ordered for delivery from Yia's tonight. I ordered the hummus and grilled shrimp. Delivery arrived on time. Hummus cold, shrimp hot. The shrimp leaked in the bag. Luckily I'm at work lol. The shrimp were cooked perfectly. They were a little too buttery. I removed the excess. I didn't realize they would arrive so wet. I'd order something else to try next time. The hummus was delicious!! It was perfectly made and flavor was excellent. Great texture. So fresh! I'd definitely order it again. The pita bread it arrived with was soft, warm, and tasted fresh. It was delicious. Prices are on point. Will be reordering soon! :)

Yelp
Came here to grab lunch around my work area. I decided to go for the lamb and beef gyro plate. I ordered it along with the rice and salad. The meal was okay. I felt like this was not the best of lamb. I am very picky with my lamb but this was okay. Would I grab lunch there again? Eh probably not but it's not a bad option. Service was also quick and they were friendly. The space is big enough for you to sit down and eat as well.
google avatar

Kamran D.

Yelp
This place has been one of my favorite restaurants for a quick lunch in the area and I always enjoined their gyros but suddenly the pork gyro started to taste like gyro from halal food carts. Overly seasoned, chewy, and extra greasy .
google avatar

Teresa M.

Yelp
Nice open space. One of my favs when in the city for Greek Food! The plates are decent portions and very tasty. The Lemon potato's are my fav but sometimes it's very lemony. The Pita Bread and Gyro meat are on point. Always looking forward to grabbing food there!
google avatar

Ronald S.

Yelp
The staff was very helpful in answering questions about our allergies. The food was fantastic. It was very clean with plenty of seating. Walking distance to MSK.
google avatar

Jason B.

Yelp
This is my go to delivery spot for delicious casual Greek takeout. Between salads and gyro platters (the lamb, chicken and shrimp are all fresh and tasty) and don't even get me started on the lemon potatoes. Luckily we're across the park but still in their delivery zone, can't find anything on the west side that lives up to Yia Yia's. Easy 5 stars!
google avatar

Bill G.

Yelp
First of all the service was quick and friendly. Dining room was clean, comfortable and well appointed for a casual meal. The gyro was great.
google avatar

Susan H.

Yelp
Solid enjoyed the feta fries. The chicken was also very good if not a little dry certainly not to the level of a four but a solid three will be back.
google avatar

Amy Y.

Yelp
Had Chicken Souvlaki which came with pita delivered. Food came fresh and warm. Not at all coma inducing, which was a plus, and very healthy, yet delicious! Only complaint was it needed more sauce. I would come back to try their other specialty meals!
google avatar

Lisa A.

Yelp
Fresh, simple- best for takeout. No ambiance. Good kabobs and souvlaki. Enjoyed the salad very much. Service quick and simple.
google avatar

Donielle M.

Yelp
Ordered here for delivery. I opted for the chicken platter with lemon potatoes, a side of falafel, and a soda. Food came quickly. Food is tasty, and has good portions. Will order from here again.
google avatar

Yelp
Good Greek dinner spot. Got delivery of: -Veggie Souvlaki Wrap $11.95 -Tiropita $7.25 -Spanakopita $7.25 -Lemon Potatoes $5.95 -Lamb/Beef Gyro $11.95 The Lemon Potatoes were out of this world. The tiropita and spanakopita were healthy portions and quite good. The souvlaki wrap and gyro's were just okay. I've had better for both. Not overly stuffed like other places. I'd still come back to get other Greek specialties if I don't want to venture over to Astoria.
google avatar

Samantha R.

Yelp
GET THE LEMON POTATO!!! YUMMMM This place never fails. I absolute love their food. its always hot a fresh. The chicken is ALWAYS juicy and flavorful. Salads are made of authentic ingredients, not home made but it comes darn close.
google avatar

Susan K.

Yelp
I had the chicken gyro platter with lemon potatoes. The pita is under the chicken. It was satisfying for a good lunch meal. No complaints.
google avatar

Kathy K.

Yelp
Picked up the Vegetarian Platter $16.50 to go. I waited about 5 min. They have a lot of to go orders going out but they were very efficient. The restaurant is very cute, bright and clean. I was very please with the platter which included Spanakopita, lemon potatoes and Greek salad. It was all so delicious. I had enough leftovers for lunch the next day.

Yelp
Greek food! This was first time trying Greek food and I fell in love. I did not know Greek food was so bomb! I tried the dolmadakias and got the cold dip trio (but subbed it for vegan dips- there are a decent amount of vegan options!) For the dips we had hummus, eggplant dip, and the garlic potato dip, each topped with a yummy olive. and they were all a good. It comes with warm pita bread too.. so yum. My favorite was the garlic potato dip -- highly recommend. Seriously It's garlicky, creamy, and so good. If you're a garlic girl, you have to try it. The hummus was good as well. It had a strong tahini flavor to it and the eggplant dip was smooth and light with almost a subtle wine flavor to it. The dolmadakias (rice wrapped grape leaves bites cooked in a tomato sauce) came 6 to an order and were servers warm. so so good. The leaves were soft with a slight bite to it and had a nice earthy -almost tea like- flavor. My sister ordered the lamb chops which she raved over. She's not typically a lamb girl but she loved these so much she came back the next day to have them again. Tender, soft and flavorful. She ordered it with a side of steamed veggies that were a bit on the blander side but amazing AMAZINGLY good paired with the garlic potato dip topped on a warm slice of pita. This place is a bit on the pricier side (lamb chops were about 27$ for 4 ~smaller sized~ pieces and about 8.50 for a dip -- 14$ for the trio though!) but I'd say it's worth it because everything was so good and surprisingly pretty filling! I'll definitely be coming back to try the other goodies and also to eat the garlic potato dip again~ Oh! And if you like spicy, I've heard that the spicy feta dip is amazing and nicely spicy. Overall this place was very good! I loved everything I tried and would rate this overall a 4.75/5! Excited to try the others. Was eyeing the beet dish when I went, so will be ordering that next time yum!

Yelp
We've ordered from here twice & the food was outstanding. Portions were generous & the chicken souvlaki was outstanding. The prices are extremely fair, especially considering the size & quality.

Yelp
This is a really good Greek place in the Upper East Side that is close to New York Presbyterian and MSK. I originally thought this is was a sit down place, but it's more of a take out place. Not quite fast food, but closer to that than a sit down place with a waiter. I was in the mood for some traditional Greek dishes, and got a pastitsio and avgolemono. Boy! I was pleasantly surprised!! Both were really good. I got a large portion of pastitsio that came with a side (got lemon oven baked potatoes) and a Greek village salad (lettuce, tomato, cucumber and feta). There was so much I could not finish. I didn't even have room for the soup (it was too hot to start with that). There was seating outside due to Covid rules on dining. This is definitely a place I would go back to again!

Matthew S.

Yelp
Food was hot and delicious. I had the lamb platter with double fries. Was $15 pretty affordable for NYC
google avatar

Kay W.

Yelp
Ordered delivery. Ordere chicken soup and two platters: one chicken, and one lamb/ pork gyro. I chose lemon potato sides for both options. Everything was fine. Chicken was a bit dry, lemon potatoes were great. Wish there was more! Soup was okay-- wouldn't order it again. The bag it came in was completely wet on the bottom. Not sure why. The soup wasn't leaky. Maybe something for the salad poured out? Glad I realized before it stained and greased up my floor too much!

Brandon S.

Yelp
Loved the salad I received from this restaurant. Was looking for somewhere new to eat and decided to try out this spot. I ordered a salad with gyro meat on top. They weren't stingy with the meat at all! The salad was very tasty.. it had olives, feta cheese, cucumbers and just the right amount of fresh dill on top. It came with a really tasty dressing. Overall the food was very fresh and the people working the counter were super friendly. I'll definitely be back here. Give them a try.
google avatar

Gab R.

Yelp
I'm ashamed to admit how often I order here; consistently, the food is always good. The chicken souvlaki platter with lemon potatoes is always a solid choice.
google avatar

LK C.

Yelp
I'm super sick with a cold and the homemade avgolemono soup was exactly what I was looking for and was SO delicious and comforting. This place is legit.
google avatar

Humera J.

Yelp
I placed an order online and saw some reviews regarding the salmon pita sandwich and decided I wanted to cancel the order. I think I called 5 mins after it was placed and they said it was made already. I got it anyway but as another yelp review stated it was covered in feta cheese which is not stated on the menu. They also stated that they vomited from the food here twice. You couldn't find the salmon in the sandwich it was sloppy with too much cheese. I paid $15 for fries. Will pass on this place. The fact that it was ready in 5 mins is not a good sign. I don't want to wait long for food but that's just too fast.
google avatar

Sara E.

Yelp
Been here twice and both times I regret it so much that I had to write a review. The food is just not good quality and leaves you sick. Got the salmon sandwich and it was legit just the bottom of the salmon skin in a wrap. Wild to charge $15 for fishy and oily scraps in a sandwich. The staff is really nice though and I really wish I could have liked this place more. Also this means that I've vomited from their food on two separate occasions months apart.
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
Meh, lunch leaves a lot to be desired. Chicken souvlaki was the greasiest I've ever seen, and for some reason they put the pita underneath the chicken, so it soaked up all the grease and became complete mush. Tzatziki sauce was flavorless, in fact nothing really had much flavor with the exception of the potatoes, which I did actually find good. Overpriced and subpar, would not recommend, would not go back.
google avatar

Angela L.

Yelp
This might become my spot for lunch during work! Interior: good amount of space and tables. They've got this cool design of colored window panels hanging on the walls. Service: decent time. I ordered a Santori Salmon and it took like 10mins. Could be faster so I could enjoy more of my lunch break but not terrible. If you have a table, one of the employees will come out to bring it to you which is great. Gives it a take out/dine in vibe. Food: delicious! My salmon sandwich was great. It's hard to find pescatarian meals for lunch so this'll have to be my go to. The fries were amazing and so was the salad (both included with it). The salad had this delicious seasoning/dressing - I wish it was on the sandwich bc I had to take bites of both for it to be spectacular lol. If you work in the area, I recommend calling in your order for lunch 10mins before arrival. Great food.
google avatar

Vanessa D.

Yelp
Like a not so very smart person, I ordered the pork slouvaki platter rather than the pork gyro player that I had had my eyes on. But no biggie because the pork was absolutely fantastic!! So flavorful! I got it with brown rice which was unfortunately very basic with minimal flavor and. The pita bread was absurdly delicious and dipped in the taziki, yum! Will get the gyro platter next time!!
google avatar

Gary M.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by the food here. The restaurant reminds me of my go to Greek spot in Brooklyn. Only difference is the lamb gyro slices are thinner which I don't mind. I had the lamb gyro platter that came with 4 pieces of pita, fries and salad. The fries were addicting and the portions were large for the price point. There is plenty of seating inside to enjoy your meal so be sure to stop by.
