Definition of small business and local. It’s the neighborhood Ramen place. One or two people working who clearly take pride in their restaurant. When I walked in it’s simple and clean. Don’t expect a fancy ramen place. ramen had Light salt/sodium. Mild flavor on the veggie, corn, And onion ramen. Japanese egg rolls served hot and crispy. The cream on top was a little much for me but I don’t do sauces or creams. Water is free and help yourself. Nice atmosphere. Japanese prints and music.

This place was a first in our books. When you first walk in you have a great cleansing feeling. You grab your menus by the cashier. Sit down, figure what you would like. I went with c14. It was ramen with chicken and corn green onions, and I added mushrooms . The broth was a soy sauce base. Wasn’t to bad, but prefer more of a mix ingredient taste. My husband got a spicy soup was also great. My kids shared Japanese fried rice and add chicken for a dollar. You clean up after your self. And leave they trays by the door. Over all great experience!

Google
Absolutely loved their ramen 🍜! It was fresh and bold. Taste was clean and delicious. Pork belly was tender and nice grilled flavor. Takoyaki 🐙 and spicy edamame 🫛 were the best I've had on town. The only down side, and I'm nitpicking here, is it's a little small. However it's cute and comfortable so that could also be a plus depending on your perspective. Definitely going back!

Google
First time! Great food and service. Great neighborhood location! Delicious food.

Google
Was nice to finally make it by here. Had the Honey Cheese Puffs and the Yakitori (kabob). The order was off menu.. and I had to ask for it by name. I found 4 kabobs with chicken only wrapped in foil. It was all I hoped for..very flavourful and hearty. I asked for sweet chili sauce for dipping. The honey cheese puffs were crispy and sweet.. what a treat. I recommend.

Google
First time coming here. Had better ratings in the area for ramen. Went in, nobody greeted us, didn't know what to do. So just sat down, got our own menu. First impression on the place, dirty tables, unmanned. The place runs like a fast food restaurant. Order at counter, pick up your order from a window and return your plates at a window. No need to give tips for you doing all the service work. Self serve water as well and you can grab your own container to go. We ordered spicy tonkatsu ramen, miso ramen and takoyaki. The broth is very blend, not very flavorful. Takoyaki was good. The katsu was good actually, the kids and us liked it. Wish ramen was better... Probably go somewhere else for me. Not worth the amount we spent.

Google
Japanese Honey Chicken w/steam To-Go. It is deliciously sweet. The texture taste almost like tofu. Rice was cooked well. No sogginess. The dinning area could use some cleaning, especially restroom.

The cold front blew in, and with the temperature drop, it's the perfect weather for ramen and soup. We thought to try @yokairamensa out for dinner. Everyone else had the same idea, so it was pretty busy. Dad had the Taro Milk Tea, I had the Butterfly Purple, and my husband had the Mango Sweet Tea with Lychee jelly. We all enjoyed our drinks. We shared the Fried Shrimp with the sweet chili sauce. Dad and I shared the Tonkotsu Ramen with extra noodles. Even with sharing, we couldn't finish it all. My husband had the spicy version. Great flavor in the broth without being salty. The pork was tender! Many stopped by for to-go orders. They're at Thousand Oaks and Jones Maltsberger. Check them out!

Yelp
At this point I've been to every ramen shop in San Antonio and nothing tops Yokai. It is truly the best ramen shop in the city and I'm so glad it is a well kept secret. It can get expensive, but the food is so good it is absolutely worth it! The broths, rich, full of flavor. The noodles and meats, fresh, perfectly cooked, and delicious! Every bowl is entirely customizable to your preference (with vegan options) Seriously, do yourself a favor and go! (or don't, so we can keep this gem a secret a little longer)!

Yelp
Really cute restaurant, order at the counter, they'll call your name/number and you're left alone! Whenever you're cleaning up you just place your trays by the door window and boom! The food was good, simple. Had to add shoyu and chili oil but that was available on the side.

Yelp
One of my favorite ramen places to go to! Quick service and food comes out freshly made! Place is slightly small but has lots of tables and chairs, gives it a cozy feeling. If your a fan of tea their mango tea is so delicious and comes in a reusable cup to take home! If you love authentic ramen this is a place you must try!
google avatar

Amanda L.

Yelp
I'm sitting at a 4.5 so I'll round up. My only complaint is that this place isn't really authentic ramen... it's definitely a fusion. I got the spicy tonkatsu and their #1 at a 3/4. A level 3-4 is HOT and their number one reminded me a lot of taiwanese spicy beef soup. I enjoyed the noodle texture as well and the broth wasn't overly salty. My only thing is that the tables were REALLY sticky and dirty still. You order at the front and they bring it
google avatar

Yelp
Jigoku ramen used to be very spicy but last three times when I had it, it wasn't that spicy anymore even when I ordered level 5

George W.

Yelp
Ordered to go. This Ramen is about 2 steps above packaged ramen. Everything seems like it was out a COSTCO package. Not fresh and I dont even think they making anything in house. Garbage

Missy W.

Yelp
Cute little hole in the wall restaurant. Intimate setting, person at register was super nice. Food was delicious.

Yelp
I really enjoyed eating here. The ramen was really good. The broth was very flavorful, more than just the tonkatsu flavor the broth had base to it. It was really good, definitely sets itself apart from other ramen spots. The ingredients used were also very delicious, I could tell the freshness and all together the chef did a really good job. The place itself is really cute, fun in fact. The decor is animated and the seating arrangement fits the cute shop very well. Last but not least the service and staff were very friendly and respectful. I'll definitely be coming back.

Yelp
Good place to eat for ramen highly recommend. The environment is welcoming and service is great.

Yelp
Stopped by with.my son and wife for a quick lunch! Right place at the right time. Restaurant was small and restrict seating. Ate outside which was a great decision. Not especially fond of ramen. My son is a connoisseur! Must admit the food was good. Service quick! Re Commend for an afternoon delight!

Yelp
10/10 would recommend. The service was kind and the food came out very fast. The food was delicious i really loved the japanese egg rolls we sat at the booths which was really cool felt like the real japanese restaurants, they we're playing anime theme songs which made the place even better
google avatar

Yelp
So yummy! Delicious warm bowl for the chilly week of San Antonio. The dining experience was unique and just fun. You order and then they push your order through these doors and the decor is very anime style, pops of color. My boyfriend got the yakisoba and he devoured it and I got the ramen. I'm not keen on some veggie ramens because I don't like some of the vegetables so places add but this was great and adding the fried tofu was that perfect bit of protein.

Yelp
Loved the vibes here. If you have ever seen midnight dinner on Netflix it feels slightly similar but In a ramen shop style. I liked that they put food out through the counter from the kitchen. The ramen is good and well priced. I like how it is not too too rich so that I don't feel stuffed. It's a great everyday ramen.

Yelp
Not a bad little ramen joint. If you live in the Thousand Oaks Shopping Center area, there are plenty of little stores that keep the community happy - Yokai.is one of them. On those rare wet chilly days when you yearn for hot savory soup to warm your bones, Yokai provides you with great tasting ramen. It's a small palce on the corner, with ample parking on the side. You enter, are greeted and seat yourself. You order at the table and receive your order at the pickup window. I had the spicy tonkatsu at (spice level 3-4, where 5 is the max), and was left both pleased with the product. The noodles were prepared well, not sticky or soggy. The dish came with a nice size slab of grilled pork, and plenty of corn, mushroom, and green onions. The broth was flavored sufficiently I also tried the octopus balls. These were deep fried crab filled balls with one or two pieces of octopus tentacles in them. They weren't bad and the preparation and presentation of this dish was well done. What could be better is adding more octopus, the crab filler and sauce ended up dominating the taste of this appetizer - when I was expecting more cowbell, err octopus The service was fantastic. We placed our order and maybe five minutes later the food was ready. The ambience was great - like a Japanese anime motif with J-Pop playing in the background. The Thousand Oaks area is lucky to have this little ramen shop as part of their diverse food selection.

Yelp
Love ordering the pork spicy tonkatsu ramen - their fried rice is also great. Fast service!

Yelp
Tried the spicy ramen level 1. Amazing. Love the food and love the ambiance! I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
So happy this place showed up so close by. Family friendly service and the food is delicious. Usually the Karage chicken is a great starter but the honey cheese puffs are light and well balanced flavor too. While the tonkatsu is a staple don't miss out on the yakisoba if you aren't feeling up for broth. And if you're eating alone, an authentic eastern dining experience awaits you. Check them out!
google avatar

Yelp
First time here and it was great! The spicy tonkotsu was very flavorful and not overwhelming. Small restaurant but i love the feel of a real ramen bar. Definitely recommend for couples.

Yelp
This is a hidden gem! 2nd time my wife and I tried this place and the food does not disappoint and you definitely get you money's worth. Service is prompt and this is a place where you give your order and they will open up a window and hand your order, more like a traditional Japanese ramen spot. Ambience is decent and small. The food is delicious: my wife got the Hakata Chicken Ramen and I got the Shoju Chicken Ramen along with Karaage chicken and Chicken Gyoza. This will be our ramen goto spot when we need have ramen cravings and need to go to one closeby.
google avatar

Uyen T.

Yelp
The broth was clear and rich. The takoyaki octopus balls were crispy on the outside and soft and full of flavors inside.
google avatar

Yelp
First visit. We ordered at the register and a few minutes later, a window opened and out popped our food -- like a prize. The broth here is so delicious! The noodles are on the al dente side and the chashu is firm too. Next time I visit, I'll get extra egg and skip the meat. My husband got the ramen without scallions, so the broth had a nuttier flavor. I prefer it with scallions though!

Andrew F.

Yelp
Pretty good but pricy. I did enjoy it and will go back. Was about $115 for 5 orders with boba teas
google avatar

Yelp
The Ramen was absolutely amazing! Nice quiet place with probably the best ramen I've had since moving here and Ito Ramen was my favorite 10/10 recommend if you love quality Food!

Sky G.

Yelp
I love this place so much!! I try to have my date night there every other week! I get the jigoku fire spicy ramen level 2 and it's so good every time! Food comes out super fast / hot. The staff are always so nice! I definitely recommend trying this place out!!
google avatar

Savannah A.

Yelp
I just ate here and to be honest it was not that good I got the miso hot soup and let me tell you it had no flavor to or wasn't even spicy not one bit I will admit the atmosphere was pretty cool but I will advise try at your own risk
google avatar

Yelp
This ramen shop is okay. It's the right size. There's hand sanitizer and signs to correctly wear masks. The dining area has an anime theme. I ordered spicy tonkatsu ramen and chicken karaage. The ramen was good but the spicy level was low. The chicken karaage came with sauce on it. If I knew, I would have requested sauce on the side. The portions for both were small and the price was a little high. But my ramen curiosity was satisfied. Overall rating is 3 stars. They're ramen is okay but price-to-portion needs a little improvement. It's a sunny day today. I'll come here on rainy days if I happen to be in the area to have a quick ramen fix.

Yelp
This shop is quite neat. Atmosphere was quiet when I dined in with my friend and the music was played at an adequate volume. Yokai has a good selection of food and drink selection, it has spicy versions of the ramens as well. The shio pork ramen was delicious, a bit salty for my taste, and has a good portion. While the shoyu chicken had a lighter taste to its broth compared to the shio but nevertheless was good. I think the shoyu would be good for people who would like a lighter taste as their broth. They have a high chair here for those who want to bring their toddlers. Overall, good with ambiance and tasty food.

Stormy W.

Yelp
Yokai Ramen = cute, small spot for Japanese and Asian cuisine. ~6 tables and a bar counter with stools (less than 27 ppl max room). We ordered the Yakisoba w/chicken, Japanese Honey Chicken, gyoza and Mango tea. Food came out steaming (a good thing!). Food was good. Great customer service. Would recommend and would come back to try other menu items.

Yelp
Best tonkatsu ramen in San Antonio. I've searched far and wide throughout the U.S. for a quality representation to what you can find in Japan. And this is it. It's a modest establishment not quite hidden away in the NE of SATX but it's well worth the drive IMO.
google avatar

Zai A.

Yelp
By far the best Ramen I've had in San Antonio. The customer service was great, the simplicity of the restaurant made it perfect. I have found my go to Ramen place.

Abby V.

Yelp
10/10 would recommend. Had the karaage chicken and Yakisoba with pork. The chicken was my absolute favorite and was some of the best fried chicken I've had period. Yakisoba was delicious and you could tell the ingredients were fresh. The inside was clean and the employees are nice.

Yelp
This restaurant is in a strip mall but don't let out side fool you. When walking in, it has a very Japanese family owned feel to it. Your greeted the minute you walk in, place your order at register and prepay just like in Japan. I ordered the C2 Tonkotsu Ramen andB6 Karaage Chicken It took right back to living in Japan. The soup broth is authentic and pork is cooked tender. The Karaage was served boneless and crispy easy for dipping in soup. Delicious!!! This just became my go to for Japanese Ramen.

Darren H.

Yelp
Great ramen and a very interesting concept of no direct contact between kitchen and consumers---they use a very stylish door to serve your food. Small place and not much decor.
google avatar

Tina M.

Yelp
This place never disappoints. Ramen is always tasty! If you like seaweed with ramen, I recommend bringing it cause it doesn't come with it. But the flavor is great! Appetizers are good too! Service is quick and staff is polite. I recommend giving it a try
google avatar

Jason H.

Yelp
Yokai is a great place to grab lunch. They have tasty selections and the food is fresh and delicious. I do wish that the servings were a bit bigger and the location had an odd if serving your food.
google avatar

Peiyu L.

Yelp
Light but flavorful broth, noodles cooked just right, simple ramen toppings. Not fancy nor flashy but the food here is sure comforting just like the bowl waiting for you on the table at home. Service is minimal but you won't feel ignored. We ordered shio, spicy miso, tonkotsu ramen. All three types of broth are on the lighter side. There's a fried garlic aroma in the tonkotsu broth and it's awesome. The ramens eggs are fully cooked, no gooey yolks. I'm kinda disappointed but my kid likes it alright. Besides ramens, we also got honey sweet chicken with steamed rice and edamame. Both are good. If only there's any vegetables come with the honey chicken rice it would be even better. We will come back when we want simple, lighter, good ramens.
google avatar

Chad M.

Yelp
A disappointing ramen experience. We tried a couple different things. None of it was good. Personally I'd rather have and instant ramen. I didn't like the flavor or the noodle consistency in either ramen. I believe it was the Black sugar tea that was good. Really sweet but still really good. Wouldn't go back for just the tea.
google avatar

Rachel C.

Yelp
Food was horrible! I've never had worse. And when I asked for a refund, they suggested that I file a dispute with my credit card company. I am too busy to leave reviews . This is worth my time--save yourself and never choose this place.
google avatar

Jean G.

Yelp
I wanted some hot noodle soup, so I decided to try this place. They delivered, and I always worry about soups when you use delivery. But this place was great! I would definitely recommend it!
google avatar

Stephanie T.

Yelp
Ramen was alright, I wasn't amazed. Nor was I amazed by the price, I Also wasted my money on shrimp Fried rice 12 bucks for a kid size portion. There only ca and bottle drinks and the tea is 5 bucks over priced....one and done I won't be back
google avatar

Big T.

Yelp
I came in right before they close and the waitress took care of me from the start, she showed me what she liked and what she recommended. After that I grabbed a seat and within a few minutes I was already getting up to get my bowl. The pork was soft, and the broth was top tear. Definitely comin back soon
google avatar

Amanda W.

Yelp
Yes sis. I'm not even a super huge ramen fan but this sh*t was good. Looks great in the photos and tastes just as good. There are two kinds of ramen there, the pork base and the miso base. Pork base is creamy (as pictured) and the miso base is clear. The pork belly is tender, literally falls apart with the chopsticks. The egg was a little over but everything was great. It's the soft opening so we got the eggrolls for free. Service was cool, they slide your tray out through window openings connected to the kitchen. Overall good vibe. If you are a ramen lover (and even if you're not) I recommend giving this place a try.
google avatar

Krista C.

Yelp
Walked into this place and immediately knew the ramen would be good - very authentic vibes. Reminded me a lot of Ito Ramen if you've been there (if not, I recommend!). Seating is very limited - the place is very very small. You order at the front counter and then the food is called out and delivered via a little window to the kitchen. I ordered the Spicy Tonkatsu Ramen and the Octopus Balls. Tonkatsu flavor was so good - creamy, just enough spice to add a kick. The pork was a hair over cooked, but still good! The Octopus balls were a more risky choice, but they looked good in the picture so we went for it and so glad we did! So good - doesn't taste a whole ton like octopus, so if you're on the fence go for it!

Krystal D.

Yelp
So glad I gave this place a try! I ordered through DoorDash, and it came so fast! It was so filling and delicious! I drank every last drop of my ramen
google avatar

Tiffany T.

Yelp
Got to-go order since they closed in 45 minutes & the food was very underwhelming. Our calamari portion was mixed with onion rings? & the portion was very small. The chicken Karaage wasn't bad though
google avatar

Alan T.

Yelp
Ordered to go from Yokai and it was very good. Ordered the tonkatsu ramen and the Japanese egg rolls. The egg rolls are some of the best I have had. Will definitely go there again.
google avatar

Julie P.

Yelp
We found our new favorite Japanese Ramen place in San Antonio!! My husband and I are always on the hunt for some good authentic ramen and this one is a hidden gem. We ordered Tonkotsu (#2) and Spicy Tonkotsu (#3) Ramen. If you like the clean broth go with the Tonkotsu. The spicy level is addicting... I think we will actually increase the spicy level next time! Also got an order of the Takoyaki and received a free entree of egg rolls by checking into Yelp. The Sweet Matcha is not strong, very light matcha flavor. The presentation was so thoughtful and customer service was absolutely delightful. We will be coming back... very soon
google avatar

Leah D.

Yelp
This place has no Business being as good as it is. The ramen is TOP NOTCH. Great flavor and color of broth. The Japanese honey chicken is incredible. Better than any orange or sesame chicken you can get anywhere.
