Yong Le Market

I spent a lovely morning at Yong Le Market. The ground floor is bustling with popular eateries, while the floor above sells textiles. One level up, you’ll find tailors and seamstresses, and the top floor surprised me with a quiet space that seems dedicated to local designers. There’s even a catwalk up there, and the clothing design really feels several notches higher. Arriving early meant I didn’t have to deal with the long queues. I ordered the sushi platter, which came with complimentary miso soup. The fish was fresh, though I wasn’t fond of the chewy parts that sushi restaurants usually trim away. In hindsight, I should’ve gone for à la carte. What I love about Taiwan’s wet markets is how clean and well-ventilated they are—no unpleasant smells at all. By the time I left, queues had formed everywhere. Outside, I stumbled upon a dessert stall specializing in almond-based treats. I normally dislike almond, but their version was so good it completely changed my mind. In fact, I ended up having two bowls in one sitting (as you’ll see in the video). Definitely a place I’d return to.

It’s the place to start your Dihua street walk. Locals and tourists flock to this market. Most know about the first floor where there are unique and multi generational stalls selling food and produce. Many are famous including the sushi restaurant and the youfan stall which already has a line early in the morning - once they sell out, they close. But did you know there’s a level two? It’s packed with fabric and vendors selling household items. Honestly it’s a place you wished you had two stomachs. I love the market but…. the recommendation is to pace yourself as there are many other stalls to eat at once you leave the market and start your Dihua Street walk. Save some room for that!

If you are a craft person, you MUST visit level 2 to 4 of the market! There are lots of cloths ( from clothes making to curtain making) to purchase as well as craft items such as sewing accessories. I got some beautiful Taiwanese made Cotten and linen cloth from the really kind and knowledgable owner as well as some beautiful waterproof cloth. It’s a pity that not many ppl are visiting it. Based on my purchase some of the items are cheaper compared to the shops that I visited near the market. Enjoy crafting!! Also, there is an amazing fried oyster cake near the market Google can you can find it!

Dihua Street. Taiwanese famous Street when comes to CNY shopping. Today, I'm sharing another non festive look of this place. I don't have the stomach for all, so just recommending the "Must eat" stalls. Besides the food, Yong Le Market is famous for it's fresh sashimi. Couldn't get a picture of the famous glutinous rice as it's close today but you will not miss it coz it is the 1st stall from main entrance. The rest of the street are filled with medical shops, dried, preserve fruits, Chinese Tea, Candies etc... About 25mins walk from Taipei Main Station underground shopping Street, exit at Y27.

Ancient market that has a lot of food stores that you can buy food from, the most famous being the Oily rice.

Nice authentic market, no tourists. A range selection of more traditional fast food. No european or US brands. Toilets available

A must visit for all whilst in Taipei. Beat the local crowd in Xi Men Ding. It is a 20 minutes +- walk from Xi Men Ding. All the way, you can enjoy the views and see the locals activities. There is also a temple which has a rich culture history.

I really enjoyed walking around Yongle Market. I love just walking around a busy place and seeing how mom and pop shops operate. There are a lot of unique Taiwanese food vendors that I really recommend but that one that stole my stomach was the sushi one.

I'm so impressed by the Yongle Market in the Datong District in Taipei! Since my relatives know I cosplay, they recommended that I check out the fabric vendors here, and I could totally lose myself here in this maze of various selections. Total fabric porn, oh my goodness! Aisle after aisle after aisle of bargains and fairly priced fabrics for amazing quality! There was a wide variance of Asian fabrics that are both hard to find AND expensive in the US, so if you're coming from overseas like me, get your fabrics here! When you're done shopping for fabrics, there's also food stalls outside. I got some excellent stinky tofu here right in front of the fabric market. Datong District is also notable for its Japanese period and Qing period architecture, especially along Dihua Street. Certainly worth exploring!

Very intriguing place and certainly a unique Taipei experience for those who don't mind getting out of their comfort zone a bit - this market is famous for its wholesale fabric stores. There are also unique Taiwanese eateries and a number of historical buildings near by. The market itself is not very clean and unless you're looking for special fabrics (from traditional Chinese silk to fabric for upholstery, you name it, they have it!) or in the fashion/ fabric business, you may find it a crowded and untidy. Some stores also custom make draperies for incredible low prices.
