The Hottest New Restaurants in Portland, May 2024

"Ava Max blasts in this Northeast Broadway sushi restaurant, decked out in paper lanterns and fake flowers. Yosu isn’t going for high-end sushi seriousness; however, it has a strong handle on comfort food sushi, standard rolls and elaborate maki. Hamachi “carpaccio” — more of a sashimi preparation — bathes in a pool of ponzu with tobiko and jalapeño; the fish is fresh and firm, generously sliced and well balanced by its accoutrements. Chef’s choice nigiri includes classics like tuna and salmon; the squid and salmon preparations here are delicate, flavorful, and luscious, without falling apart or losing a satisfying firmness." - Eater Staff

Yummm. Everything tasted fresh and it was presented very well. Food took time but it’s nice to not be in a hurry sometimes and enjoy your company. Had the Salmon Poké and 4 Seasons Roll

I’ve been searching for restaurants that mimic a taste of being in my childhood home, a bit of a nostalgia and comfortability. Where the art is perfect and just makes sense. Whether it be your home or mine, I feel so welcome. Thank you for my meal, I adore the bachelorette bash water cup as it represents how we should reduce, reuse, and recycle.

I don’t think I’ll be coming back. I ordered the salmon ikura bowl and my friend got the dragon roll and salmon belly nigiri. 1. It took way too long for my food to come out. The restaurant wasn’t even busy but my friend’s food came first and she was already halfway through her meal when mine finally arrived. 2. The rice wasn’t sushi rice. It was just plain white rice. I’ve been to many sushi restaurants and this was the first time I’ve been served regular white rice with sushi. It was honestly surprising. 3. For a salmon ikura bowl, the ikura was barely there. It felt like they just sprinkled a few on top like pepper. 4. Both the salmon and ikura didn’t taste fresh. Sadly the quality felt below average and it just wasn’t worth the money.

I had an absolutely wonderful dining experience at this sushi restaurant. The sushi was not only delicious but also extremely clean, giving off a homely feeling. What made this experience even more special was the charming proprietress. She is incredibly beautiful with a sweet voice and an excellent personality. It was truly a stroke of luck to have dined here. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great sushi and a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

This place was adorable!! And the food was amazing quality and priced so well for the experience! It may take a bit for things to come out but we got a ton of fried things which take longer! The appetizers come out right away!! Especially because the fried stuff is a type of katsu style. Honestly the best deep fried rolls I’ve ever had!! We got the st. John’s Bridge roll and the fish was so yummy!! I’m a real stickler about fish quality but this fish was so good!! I really hope as they get popular they won’t ever change the quality of their rolls because this will keep me coming back for more!!

Great new sushi spot on NE Broadway at 7th. Just the kind of update the Lloyd neighborhood needs. Open the door to an unexpectedly elegant room with an upstairs dining loft. I ordered the Rose City California role for take-out and was served a glass of water while I waited, nice. The sushi was delicious and made a delicious appetizer when I got home. Service was quick. Honestly it wasn’t busy while I was there, but as I was entering I asked a fellow patron if he’d been here before and how is it? Answer: “Really good, I cone here a lot with my girlfriend”. I can see why, I’m going back for the dine-in experience.

Absolutely the best sushi I’ve ever had, the staff was incredibly friendly. Here for a concert but I had to come back twice! And they actually remembered me! Love these guys and will love to come back again 🫶🏻

Google
Amazing food, service, quality, and everything between. The food was very reasonably priced and both the sushi and other menu items were delicious. The popcorn chicken came as a surprise, but it was some of the best I ever had. Every piece of sushi was flavorful, fresh, and made with care. We had a party of 9 and everyone had an amazing time. You will not be disappointed.

Yelp
It's a whole vibe. Even with the language barrier, These ladies provided some extravagant service at Yosu Sushi. I recommend the California Tempura if your a beginner to sushi. After we broke the ice we were able to communicate very well! Nice and quiet. I love the gold utensils too! I will be here again.

Yelp
This place is fabulous. Tonkatsu ramen is perfectly seasoned: the pork oozes umami from the soy braise, the broth is perfection, the bamboo slices and sliced soft boiled egg (how does one DO that?!) are just right. The mackerel sushi: yum. Nicely done. Had dinner here on a Wednesday evening about 7, a few diners, not busy. The food came quickly and the ramen was piping hot. Does this place offer choice of broth, styles of noodle, extra fancy options? No. But it doesn't need to. A solid, neighborhood sushi place. I wish we had one back home. Are you a neighbor? Do you work nearby in one of the many offices? Are you here at a hotel for a conference, like me? You owe yourself a visit to this cozy place. I will be back. Does it matter that I was starving from a great bike ride around the neighborhood today, AND IT WAS SUNNY IN PORTLAND? Perhaps.

Yelp
Walked in taking a chance. This is a fantastic sushi restaurant. Had the deep fried spicy tuna roll. I don't usually like deep fried, but it was cold out, and it just spoke warmth. It was unbelievably good. I live 25 miles away, and will be back here because this new little restaurant is that good. Great service, great owners.

Yelp
We went here for lunch and were so happy we did! The service was great and the food was presented to us beautifully. The ambiance is very laid back and casual. We felt relaxed as we enjoyed our meal. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Really like this new spot. The sushi was fresh and tasted really good. They have a lot of different types of rolls. It made for a filling and not overly pricey in my opinion. It's hard to find lunch for less than $15 anywhere nowadays. The service was really good and friendly. And the restaurant is really new, clean and nicely decorated.

Yelp
The sushi is as amazing and the service was great. Not many people in the restaurant but the freshness of the hamachi was so good!!!

Yelp
Tried to eat there with my family on what seemed like a slow evening. Took a long time to place order, shrimp tempura appetizer finally came out after 30 minutes, left to put toddler to bed and was told to come back in 20-25 minutes when rolls and chirashi would finally be ready. Came back 30 minutes later and food still not ready. Cancelled order and was made to pay for pretty bad shrimp tempura and miso soup. No apologies or acknowledgment that anything had gone wrong from the staff.

Yelp
The most adorable place you've ever seen!! Very good food and great service. Highly recommend by someone who loves sushi!

Yelp
All the food was really good. The service is great. I think the value that you can get here makes it well worth a stop. Cheers

Yelp
We loved every dish that we ordered from Yosu. Truly excellent! Only disappointment was that ordering online only allowed the option to pay when you pickup. They did not start making order the order until we arrived at the listed ready for pickup time. This meant the time between initial order and fulfillment was over an hour. This experience could definitely be improved.

Yelp
Very good! Got a volcano roll, miso soup, and a salmon belly nigiri for myself, and a salmon collar, happy combo, and cucumber salad for my partner. The happy combo had kind of small pieces. But the volcano roll was super unique and tasty, a nice crunch and spice to it. Service was very attentive and kind, and the place itself is cozy and inviting. Reasonably priced as well, will probably be back!

Yelp
Wow!! I was so impressed with this place. Very decent prices for great quality. I love that they give you generous amounts of sauce, and the plating is definitely instagram worthy. The Portland Timbers roll is similar to one at my old favorite sushi restaurant which I have been unable to find a replacement for in some time. Service was excellent as well. I stopped in for lunch, but would definitely make a great sushi date night.

Yelp
I'm so glad to find a new sushi spot in the area. I would definitely recommend this place for a cute sushi date. It's so hard finding a good sushi spot anymore so I'm happy there's one close to me now

Selden B.

Yelp
Fabulous fish, great atmosphere, and very friendly staff. This is our new favorite neighborhood sushi spot!

Yelp
I will definitely be returning to try more! The double hamachi roll was my favorite thing I tried tonight, the service was also amazing. The presentation was so awesome I'm so happy I got to have this experience!!

Yelp
on an unbusy night, had to abandon order after over an hour and a half of waiting to order and for any actual food to arrive. never got our chirashi or rolls. 30 minute wait for ok only miso soup and far below average shrimp tempura.
