I came here with a meetup, and the host host ordered the food for us. I. Loved. Every. Dish. The spice is perfect. Just hits the spot! The photos posted aren't even all of it. My favorite would be the Khao soi. Because that mellowed all the spicy dishes we had so I recommend having that after having a spicy dish. I like the crackling with jackfruit. The crackling compliment the spiciness of the jackfruit. Desserts! You must order dessert after having your spicy dishes! Again, I love the coconut with jackfruit. These two fruits go well together in ice cream! Lastly, the duck. I don't like duck as much but this dish blew my mind. I like the crispness of it. I didn't taste the gamey flavor so I was ok with it. If your in the Upper East Side. Have Thai food here. I heard they get packed so be sure to be there before they get busy.

Definitely a true authentic Thai Issan restaurant. My family is from Laos & their food is close to home & delicious not salty like most Thai place where they overwhelm every dish with fish sauce. Zabb PuTawn's dishes were perfectly seasoned. I'm definitely going to return for some more tasty dishes. Zabb Zabb was wondering if they can make me thum tang - I would pay extra Lao style! Korp Chai Spring rolls - Delicious Papaya salad Lao style - Zabb Zabb Chicken wings - delicious Bamboo salad - Zabb zabb Panang chicken - delicious Drunken noodles- Zabb Zabb Sweet sticky coconut rice - delicious

Decent taste, average portions, price seemed high. Had the shrimp tom yum goong, the pad kee mao, and the chicken wings for delivery. Liked the tom yum, the pad kee mao was decent, the wings could be either crispier or more flavorful. Might check out again if in the neighborhood.

Zabb Putawn is rebranded with a new menu and reopened for indoor dining this month. They used to be a decent thai restaurant but now they are definitely one of our favorites. Their menu is now focused on northern thai dishes, similar to larb ubol.. one of our favorite places before they closed. We ordered: Moo ping - a generous portion of 3 marinated pork skewers with a delicious dipping sauce Som tum kai khem - a variation of papaya salad with a salted egg. This was really good. Pad thai - above average Pork jowl - we liked this but we liked the moo ping better Krapow basil - ground chicken over rice. This was really good. I would have like my little egg to be runnier but still good. If you can handle spice, go for thai spicy. We will definitely be back to try other things on the menu. I would put this above a lot of the thai places in hells kitchen

My friend was totally insisting this is "the" best Thai ever. It was even better than eating in Thailand where I have been to so many times. Amazing flavorful authentic 5 stars taste with lovely service. I would totally recommend to all the foodies.

This restaurant was amazing! It's a little on the smaller side, but don't let that deter you! The waiter was incredibly nice and attentive. I've had Thai food across NYC many times, but each time I've left feeling a little disappointed, like something was missing. However, this restaurant is easily one of the best Thai spots I've visited in the city! I absolutely loved the tom yum soup! Not only did it warm me up on a chilly night, but the flavors were impeccable. The soup was so flavorful with a wonderfully complex profile. At first, the citrusy sourness hits you, and as that fades, the umami and savoriness kick in, creating a delicious balance. The soup leaves a subtle hint of sweetness at the end, making me crave more! The beef was a little dry, but the sauce more than made up for it! It was absolutely delicious, with a hint of citrus that cut through the fattiness of the beef, elevating the dish to another level. Normally, I'd get tired of eating beef over and over again, but the sauce kept me wanting more! The green curry was also fantastic! The coconut milk added just the right amount of creaminess, not too heavy, but still rich and satisfying. There was a subtle sweetness that tied the curry together, balancing out the dish perfectly. Overall, this place is a must-visit! I truly believe it's a hidden gem, and I'll definitely be coming back!

Came here for dinner as it was super close to the place we were staying at. Starting with appetizers, the ribs and the Thai iced tea were both super tasty! I ordered the Curry chicken noodle dish, while my partner ordered their salmon with rice. Both dishes were super tasty. They seemed to be a bit understaffed, but their staff were all super friendly! I would say the ambience of this place is super homey and casual, would recommend coming here to grab a quick lunch or dinner with your friends.

My parents moved to the area a year ago, and I've always walked past this place on the way to their apartment. I finally got to try it yesterday with some friends, and it was absolutely amazing! My friends and I went in at 1pm, when the restaurant was empty (it gets more busy at night). I was craving pad see ew, so I got that with tofu. It was perfectly seasoned, and the tofu was the perfect mix of soft and crispy. I also got Thai iced tea, which you can never go wrong with. Our waiter was a sweetheart and was very attentive. Overall, I'm happy I finally got to pop in here. Great food, great service and a relaxing atmosphere!

This is the most underrated Thai restaurant. It's tiny and not as busy as other Thai restaurant but it's so good. Their food taste homemade and decor is unpretentious. Highly recommend coming here and trying out their dishes, they're all good.

Best Thai in the UES. The chef of this restaurant worked at a Michelin-star (2015) establishment in Jackson Heights. It's original location in UES just rebranded to Zabb Putawn. I didn't know this until I saw it posted on the wall. Ambiance (5/5): The establishment is pretty snug but there was plenty of choices for dine-in on a Friday night. Service (5/5): The server was friendly and checked on us often. There's a 10% discount if you pay in cash! Food: The food was extremely affordable! But i think their online vs in-person menu is slightly off (more expensive now) Panang Curry (5/5): The chicken was tender and broth had loads of flavor!! Kow Mun Gai: My friend had this and it reminds me of Hainanese chicken rice. The taste was identical. The chicken pieces were tender but overall expected for the type of flavoring.

This is a small cozy Thai restaurant in the upper east side. Came by for a late lunch and we were readily seated. They have a lunch special that includes an app/starter with a drink with any entree. I got the papaya salad and fried tofu, and an iced unsweetened green tea. For my entree, I had the pad kee mao which was unique with the spice coming from pickled peppercorns and thin strands of wild ginger. Service was great. Overall a nice place for a Thai meal.

Notably different from other Thai restaurants in the city, Zabb PuTawn specializes in dishes from northern and northeastern Thailand. My personal favorites are the chicken liver skewers for a starter and crab meat fried rice for a main. My mother loves the mango salad. The mango salad (choice of accompaniments: avocado, shrimp, soft-shell crab) is not on the dine-in menu, but if you ask the gracious lady who hosts the dining room, she will prepare it for you. The space is tight, like most NYC restaurants, but used efficiently. Service, as already mentioned, is gracious and cordial.

Came back to Zabb PuTawn! And this time it was a group dinner. I called 20 mins before heading at 6pm and was able to get a table for 6 people. That saved my night! When we arrived I definitely saw them turning other groups away. This is a very small and tight restaurant. Only seated 20 people. Coming here was so good as we got to order many dishes and all for family style! So I got to try a large array of the menu options. Plus the dishes hubby and I tried last week! We started with the same veggie Tom yum soup, chicken feet soup (I know most people would think this is odd, but it was so delicious!) both had the right balance of sweet and sour. And also tried the northern sausage. Everyone raved about the Tom yum soup, which is a huge portion for the price! We were able to give everyone a small bowl of this soup. Followed by crab fried rice, herbal red curry beef, classic green curry chicken, pork jowl, fermented fried pork ribs, and my favorite steamed chicken. Let me tell you every single dish was cleaned to the max! The flavors are unlike any typical Thai restaurant. Zabb PuTawn is truly extraordinary! The service is also very good, always so attentive and friendly. Also if you pay cash, there is a 10% discount!

RATING: 8.3/10 In the food desert that can be the UES, Zabb PuTawn offers a commitment to authentic, no frills Thai food in their humble store. They should really get more attention, and offer a variety of authentic dishes, most notably for me their dessert of sticky coconut rice which was quite delicious (Kow Tom Mud) but their Pad See Ew was a standout as well. PAD SEE EW Great job with this. I read that they take their recipes seriously and try not to change it too much in order to stay true to original Thai recipes and that is SO appreciated. I love a no-frills place offering authentic food and you're gonna find it here. Their pad see ew was everything you look for in one, chewy, bouncy noodles with savory, salty flavor running throughout. CHIVE PANCAKE One of my must-gets when I do Thai food. These warm, chewy, fragrant "pancakes" are actually fried wedges of doughy chivey-ness. Think similar notes of chinese scallion pancake but in a more satisfying, chewy texture and crispier exterior. KARIPAP Solid curry puffs too with a nice soft potatoey inside. Not spicy. KOW TOM One of the highlights of my takeout meal. Chewy sticky rice with a nice coconutty sweetness running throughout. Such a treat. It's so valuable to find a spot in the UES that is committed to serving authentic and high quality food from a particular country. Keep up the great work!

We stopped by this teeny Thai restaurant after reading great reviews. The space is small and cozy- the opposite of many of the hipster Thai places around. Mellow jazz music was playing. The staff were lovely. We started off with a really good papaya salad. We asked for medium spiciness and this one was almost too hot. My wife had excellent chicken pad Thai and I tried a soup with egg noodles, crabmeat, roast pork and vegetables. The soup was very good. There's a weekday lunch special that would be worth investigating A very nice change of pace from loud scene-y Thai restaurants.

Picked up takeout from Zabb PuTawn during a recent meet up with some old friends and it was phenomenal. We ordered a whole feast of different items for us all to share a little bit of everything. We ordered the famous Gaeng Hunglay Ribs, Gaeng Gang Kio Wan, Kow Moo Grob, Tub Gai Ping, Pad See Eew, Kow Soi Gai, and Muuk Yang (Squid) along with some Thai Teas. We put the order in online and came down 30 min later and it was ready for pickup - the process was super easy, they handed us the bag of food and were very kind and quick about it. We then quickly went home for our feast. For starters, everything we got was absolutely amazing. Of the different dishes, my absolute favorites were the ribs, the kow soi, and the Kow Moo Grob. In particular, the kow soi was just unbelievable. I would say this is maybe the best southeast Asian restaurant I've ever been to, I highly recommend. As for the ambiance, it looked really cute and cool inside but unfortunately we couldn't stay inside.

This is a little Thai gem near our apartment. Met my friend here and the food looked amazing and tasted amazing. The service was quick and the the cost was not outrageous. I didn't think it'd be as inexpensive as it was. I got one of the noodle soup dishes (I don't remember which one) and my friend got the pad thai. The noodle soup was amazing and not too much noodles where you feel stuffed at the end. I'm super happy I found this place and I highly recommend it.

Lovely little spot in the upper east side with very solid Thai food and friendly service. I ordered the chicken pad Thai (is that even real Thai food?), and it didn't disappoint! It had a subtle lime and nutty flavor without being too overbearing (as many pad Thais can be). The prices too were fairly reasonable for NY. Give it a go!

Decent Thai spots in UES but haven't found a REALLY good place until this joint. It's a traditional and very authentic Thai food. They have unique dishes from specific local regions which is a breath of fresh air that sets them apart from all the pad Thai and pad see ew westernized dishes. Staff is friendly and patient. Prices are great. Complimentary app, drink and salad for lunch specials. Decoration is minimal but Thai themed. Would definitely come again!

Stopped by Zabb PuTawn thinking I would be here for a quick, casual workday lunch. However, to my surprise, I think I found one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the UES!! I love how they have your classic Thai options, but also offer special Northern/Northeastern Thai dishes. The Lao Style Soup (gaeng om) was a hearty semi-spicy soup with chicken, cabbage, mushrooms, and pumpkin. Never had dill in my Thai food before but it worked really well with the umami flavors of the fish sauce. Also had a bunch of other spices that made this broth perfect for a cold winter day! The Northern Style Pork Stew (gaeng hung lay) featured super and tasty tender pork ribs that fell right off the bone! It was smothered in a sweet tamarind and savory curry sauce with ginger and garlic. The combination of spices was very novel for me and left me wanting more!! If you come during lunch, they also have a lunch set which features a salad and appetizer. Loved how the larb salad utilized kaffir leaves! Crispy tofu and dumplings were pretty standard. The place itself has a good amount of seating for the amount of space it occupies. Service was good and food came quick. Wasn't too busy but definitely had a steady flow of people.

Imagine a thai girl in NYC coming home from the tiring corporate world and looking for Som Tum Pu Plara + Sticky Rice, and Pork jowl grilled for dinner.... THIS IS WHERE I GO! Oh my lord I was lucky enough to have Zabb Putawn next to my house that I could order Som Tum and many more thai food just like when I was back in Bangkok! I love this place so much I don't want to move out of Yorkville because of it lol you'll find the kindest server that would treat you like a family and the ambiance is amazing!

I had a really nice dinner here. The place is very small and intimate. It's a great place to go when you are craving a casual Thai dinner. The staff are all incredibly nice. Our food came out quickly and was pretty good! Pad See Ew (with beef): 9/10 I have struggled to find good pad see ew in this city. Now I've found a good one! Most restaurants make it far too sweet, but this was perfect. The flavor was on point and the noodles were perfectly chewy. Highly recommend this dish for a sweeter noodle. The beef was also very good - not too fatty or chewy. Crispy spring rolls: 8/10 The spring rolls were nice and crispy. They have vermicelli noodles in them, which I liked. Overall though nothing crazy unique about them. Spicy Thai basil fried rice: 9/10 I really enjoyed this fried rice! It was very similar to the flavors of the Drunken Noodle but with rice. It was spicy enough to have a kick but definitely not overpowering. If you like spice a lot you would probably want more. My one issue was the egg on top was over hard. It wasn't sunny side up or over easy. I wanted the yolk to ooze over the rice and add more flavor, but sadly that didn't happen.

Zabb PuTawn in the UES is a fantastic find! The food is incredibly tasty, and the cozy, small space makes it feel intimate and welcoming. It's hands down the best Thai restaurant in the area! We ordered the Tom Yum Noodle Soup (a must-try/ we always order this), Pad Thai, Pad See Eew, Mango Salad with Shrimp, and Crispy Spring Roll. Everything was delicious and full of flavor. Highly recommend this gem for a great meal!

I fell in love with how everyone was so welcoming during our entire dining.I loved how awesome our server Kao was introducing us to his favorite "at home dishes" What we had: Thai Curry Puffs Pad Thai Kanom Jeeb Yum Woon Sen Kow Tum What we Drank Thai Ice Tea Let us say, we've had plenty, by far this was our favorite- it was so great we got seconds! Excellent local spot. Been meaning to go for years and finally did - very impressed! They have Khao Soi which is a northern Thai dish you can't really find anywhere in NYC which is insane. We also had the beef kra pow (I think?). Either way everything was fire and staff was super nice. Very tight space in there but they make it work. Great to expand my UES Thai circle beyond Thep. Definitely worth the visit!

Khanom Jeen !!! I love that dish and it is a rare delicacy in NYC. When I saw this restaurants have Khanom Jeen and crab fried rice , it was a must go place for me. So I went dinner yesterday. Both dishes spot on and their star item spicy chicken feet soup is bonus score for me . So delicious and so authentic ( Authentic Thai taste is very important for me because most of Thai restaurants here are Americanized . I don't mean in bad way but Americanized or Asian fusion menu are so boring and lack something for a fellow SEA's taste) . Our server is very kind and attentive. Small but it makes the place cozy and you can easily catch the attention of busy servers. I will definitely come back again and again !!

So happy to try another Thai restaurant in the UES. We shared the moo ping which is grilled pork skewers- these were juicy and that sauce is spicccy. I ordered my usual of pad see ew which was flavorful and not too sweet. My husband ordered the pad kee mao and they do ask you for the spice level; this came with a good amount of vegetables and was also flavorful. The ambiance is chill and the staff were nice, but we did have to wait for a table even though we had a reservation.

Zabb PuTawn is an absolute must-try! Having visited numerous Thai restaurants, this particular one truly stands out from the rest by offering more than just the typical Thai dishes. Throughout my visit, the waiter had a big smile, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The staff were attentive and accommodating, providing us with seating options and even allowing us to switch tables to avoid excessive sunlight. I am eagerly anticipating the opportunity to explore their other menu choices in the future.

quality thai came here with some friends for din. it was pretty crowded and the tables are tightly packed. we had to wait 10 minutes despite making a reservation. however, the food made up for it. started off with the moo ping which came out hot. very juicy and generous portion of meat. for the main when for the basil fried rice with beef. was quite delicious and good portion size. well spiced and not too salty. asked for it to be made mild but it still had quite a kick. service was excellent. overall, quality thai food and not too expensive either. can see why it is popular

I tried this restaurant based on a recommendation, but it was a miss for me. The Pad Thai was edible and would have gotten 3 stars... if that was the only thing in the order. The incredibly watery Tom Yum (shrimp), and the drunken noodles with almost no meat (and what meat there was, was incredibly dry) dropped the rating.

I live nearby, but I have never walked in. This was actually much better than I expected and will become a go-to from now on. Notably, they specialize in northern style Thai dishes. The restaurant is small, so not that great for large groups or strollers. Luckily it was empty when we went on Saturday afternoon, so we had lots of space. Papaya salad - very fresh Pork Jowls - it was soft and tasty, fattier than pork is usually so it was very moist Chiangmai Chicken Curry - very interesting flavor, chicken was fall off the bone soft Gaeng Hunglay Ribs - also interesting flavor, very tasty, definitely get this if you only get one thing The entrees were large portions Will be back to try other items

Super authentic, felt like we were the only non-Thai diners there. Loved the variety of dishes on the menu - we ordered some standard dishes as well as some new-to-us dishes such as spicy raw marinated crab. Reasonable prices.

I was here with nine others a while ago. The staff here is friendly and courteous even though they got a bit overwhelmed dealing with our massive table along with the other people in this small place. As someone who prefers this style of Thai food, the food here was really good. Honestly some of if not the best Thai food I've had including Queens and they have steep competition from a lot of other places. In terms of a drink, they were out of coconut juice so I went with hibiscus juice which was tasty; not too sweet or sour. The first dish that arrived was the Som Tum Thai Kai Kem or papaya salad/som tum with salted duck egg (15$.) The full description is shredded green papaya salad with salted duck egg, roasted peanuts, dried shrimp, palm sugar, fish sauce, lime, chilies, garlic, long bean, and tomato. This was a wonderful version of a papaya salad with a bit of spiciness and sweetness along with a good amount of saltiness from the duck egg. The fish sauce and chili bottom is recommended if you like a bit more heat. The next dish was Goong Chae Num Pla or raw shrimp salad. (18$.) This consisted of shrimp marinated in fish sauce, chilies, and lime juice and it was served with bitter melon and mint leaves. This isn't for the faint of heart from but I loved it personally. Another appetizer, the the Moo Ping or grilled pork skewer (10$ for 3 skewers) which was served with jaew (or Nam Jim Jaew,) a spicy dipping sauce. The pork was moist and the dipping sauce added some extra flavor. No complaints but not much to talk about though I do prefer the coconut marinated pork from Som Tum but that's a different dish so it's hard to compare directly. A bunch of dishes arrived next including the Tum Kanoon or northern style jackfruit (18$.) This consisted of stir fried young jackfruit mashed with tomatoes, chilies, kaffir lime leaf, and topped with fried garlic and it was served with sticky rice, cucumber, and pork crackling. I have never had this before and I found to be very tasty. I usually find young jackfruit/ the savory version to be a very poor version of shredded pork but the texture and flavor here were outstanding. The garlic and the pork crackling added some extra texture. Very tasty dish. Another dish that arrived was the Pad Phed or roast duck curry (24/26$ I believe. Broken listing on site.) Also known as Gaeng Phed Ped Yang, this consisted of said half duck with Thai eggplant, pickled peppercorns, bell pepper, basil, wild ginger, and spicy curry paste. I personally prefer many other curries but the duck was very well prepared so it's hard to make any complaints. The second to last dish was the Yum Naem Kow Tod or crispy rice and soured pork sausage (15$.) This consisted of double fried rice croquettes with cured pork sausage, kaffir lime, ginger, chilies, mint, and roasted peanuts. Also known as Lao fried rice ball salad, this is a dish I have had before as well. Very nice mix of textures here from the crispy rice to the naem (aka the sour pork sausage I loved while in Chiang Mai.) Reasonably priced also. The last dish that arrived was the Kow Soi Gai or Chiang Mai Chicken Curry Noodle (18$.) Also called Khao Soi Thai, this is a Thai dish with Muslim roots but there is also another dish with the same name that is completely different which is a bit less common. I personally love this dish and this was probably unfortunately the weakest of the food. Nice big portion of noodles as well as chicken but the version at Thep and a few other spots have a lot more flavor. I'm surprised more because of how good everything else was but this was probably the only miss. Still perfectly tasty but I recommend other dishes more. We decided to order dessert and there was a bit of miscommunication so it resulted in two orders of the following three deserts (just two extra which was fine as we were originally just getting the mango sticky rice and one of the other two dishes.) Khao Niao Ma Muang or mango sticky rice (12$.) This was a tasty version especially with the added mung beans. The sticky rice was less sweet compared to most places and the mango was sweet. It's hard for me to not compared to the absurdly good mango in Thailand but this was a good take especially for a New York version. I-Tim Kati or Thai coconut ice cream ($8.) This consisted of coconut ice cream with sweet sticky rice, toddy palm seeds, mung bean, jackfruit, coconut meat, and roasted peanuts. Fun tasty dessert but I preferred the other two but more because I just happen to tend to love the other two desserts in general. Perhaps add more jackfruit for flavor? Kanom Tuay or Thai coconut custard. ($8 for 3 cups.) This consisted of rice flower, palm sugar and coconut milk and it is a steamed coconut custard. This is one of my favorite Thai desserts and it is a shame that usually you can't find it outside of in Queens outside of frozen. Ran out of review room for the first time in ages. Go here ASAP. Upper 4.

Curry was so watery that it was utterly tasteless. Very disappointed. The other dish was just greasy.

This is one of my favorite Thai restaurants in the city, which is saying a lot given the quality of Thai food in NYC. Zabb Putawn specializes in Northern Thai cuisine, and you'll find many of the specialties here that you likely won't find at other Thai restaurants. For fans of the now defunct Zabb Elee (which at one point carried a Michelin star), you'll be pleased to know that the chef Tony Rittaprom came from there. Some of my favorites: Goong Chae Num Pla - Chilled raw shrimp salad with lime, chiles, bitter melon. This dish can only be served SPICY, but it is oh-so-good. The bitter melon is an amazing complement, and in fact doesn't taste as bitter as other dishes. Som Tum Thai Sai Pu - Papaya salad that has fermented blue crab (the meat has a sweet quality to it). Absolutely delicious. Perfect combination of spice, salty, sweet, tart. All of their other dishes are including their curries and noodles are stellar - trust me, you won't be disappointed. Zabb Putawn is often overlooked amongst the glut of Thai restaurants in the UES, but deserves to be in the conversation for best in the city!

Authentic small neighborhood gem. You will not be disappointed. Thai classics like pad Thai but opt for the many unique regional dishes.

From main course to dessert - I love the food. Better to eat it there. The chicken wings were crispy and had no batter. Even the grilled chicken liver was delicious dipped in their special sauce. Mango orange papaya salad is refreshing and so was the shrimp coconut soup!!! Do not forget to have dessert! They did not have my favorite mango and Sticky rice but they had a coconut pudding Thai style. Yum!

My go-to local spot when I'm craving Thai food. The food is great and the service is always quick. I really enjoy their Northern Thai dishes and soups! My one qualm is their pad kee mao, which is one of my favorite dishes generally but not my favorite here.

very authentic flavorful and delicious food. I feel like so many thai spots in the UES all taste the same and lack flavor but this place is special. I got the curry chicken egg noodles which was SO GOOD, had so much flavor with a good amount of spice. Chicken was tender with a filling serving of noodles. I also got the half chicken which does take some time to cook if you order it. It was very soft and tender and dipped with the curry made it even better. We got complimentary side salad and dumplings with a drink due to the lunch special. Ginger lemon tea was so refreshing and perfectly sweet. If you like something sweeter i recommend the hibiscus iced tea! Would come again to try more of their menu!

It was the first time here and things couldn't have gone any better. This place was fabulous both food and service. We ordered the basil fried rice, pad see ew, and the pork for an appetizer. When I picked up the food, the guy was super friendly. I got home and the food was delicious. The food was incredibly flavorful and outstanding. I even called the restaurant after our dinner to thank them for the great experience. It is the first time I tried this and love this place. I look forward to keep coming back here. Kudos to the team here.

Would give this place another star but the two times I've come they 1) took a really long time cooking the food and 2) they forgot about one of our appetizer dishes and we ended up taking it home. Overall, the employees are still very nice and are very accommodating. It's a small place and can get very busy so I recommend making a reservation just in case. Overall, this place has good Thai food. Their pad see ew has an A in my books. It's not too sweet and not too mushy either. I have gotten it with tofu before, however the tofu chunks were huge and really had no seasoning sticking to it. I'll stick with the chicken if I get it again. Their chicken over rice was juicy and the rice was flavored well with the broth. The portions are also large and I always leave with leftovers. I'm looking forward to coming back when I crave Thai food.

This is easily the best meal I had since the indoor dining COVID ban was lifted. Before I get into the deets- a little backstory to get your palate going: I always thought PuTawn was a great resturant serving wonderful Thai food. After getting an invite to a "soft opening tasting menu" for Zabb PuTawn, I was a bit perplexed. Why the name change? It's the same owners and the same staff, how is this a new soft opening? Then all was explained. 1 Michelin Star Chef Therdthus from Zabb Elee of Jackson Heights joined the helm of the kitchen as Executive Chef. To honor his prior achievements and creativity in Northern Thai Delicacies, the name Zabb was added to the title. A wonderful addition to the Upper East Side. We came at 730p on a Friday night wirh a reservation for 4 to partake on their soft opening deal: tasting menus- chose any 3 items + bottle of ice cold Singha Beer for $20. An amazing deal, which has undoubtedly ended by the time you read this review. Right off the beginning, really nice and attentive staff that greeted us immediately. Beautiful arrangement and decor that made the most out of their tiny space (it worked despite the shape) with a sparkling clean bathroom. The hardest part was choosing only 3 items with all the choices on the menu. Between the 4 of us, we teamed up and tried 10 different things with only 2 items overlapped (to keep the peace b/w the hungry dogs ). We ordered the following: Northern Style Pork Stew Crispy rice & soured Pork Sausage Chiangmai Chicken Curry Noodle Bamboo Shoot Salad Chef Tony's Special Combo Somtum Islan Catfish Larb Deep Fried Fermented Pork Ribs Chicken wings Phayao Spice Pork Larb Northern Thai Pork and Ong Curry And finished with an order of Mango Sticky. Yes we were stuffed and we could have avoided the dessert, however, I always judge the authenticity of a Thai restaurant based on their mango sticky rice; It was a winner! Yes, all the food was fricken excellent! But what was most impressive was each dish stood up on its own! Interesting and unique, each dish had its own bold flavors where NONE of the profiles overlap. A true stroke of genius by a Michelin Started Chef and certainly not of what you are used to in the typical Thai Cuisine. Highly recommend this place, can't wait for the finalized menu, and super happy for Zabb PuTawn to be located in the Upper East Side!!! A true gem!

Quaint little Thai restaurant In The upper east side. I come to this area often and was delighted to see a Thai restaurant with such an extensive and authentic menu. One of my favorite thai dishes of all time is Khao Mahn Gai, which is steamed chicken and rice. For their lunch special you can add a starter, appetizer, and a drink to any entree. I of course got my favorite dish and it was delicious. Service was attentive and price was decent for the area. I would recommend this place for a quick stop to fulfill your Thai food craving, I'll be returning everytime I'm in the area to try something new. Disclaimer: I wasn't able to take any photos of the food itself because because I was starving and scarfed down the meal, enjoy!

Ordered take out tonight and WOW! The food was so freaking delicious. Spicy Basil Fried rice, medium spice woah hit the spot. Such fresh ingredients and my favorite neighborhood spot. Last week I dined at Zabb with friends and the service is exceptional. So friendly and such a cute ambiance. Spring rolls are crispy and tasty. I love good Thai food and this place is the spot. Definitely recommend for both take-out and in-person dining. Also, you can BYOB!

This place rebranded and reopened recently on the UES! Very authentic Thai place but make sure you let them know how much spice you can handle because it's no joke! We loved the crispy rice pork sausage and catfish wrap! They currently have a tasting menu special of $20 for 3 meals and a free beer! We also got a Singh keychain when we paid. Will be back!

Everything we ordered (papaya salad, grilled squid, pork rib, pineapple fried rice, tamarind duck, mango & sticky rice, coconut pudding) was good. And the service was good as well. We will go back.

I ordered their pork + ong curry and their papaya salad (chef's combo). The papaya salad was supposed to be "mild" spicy, but it was still pretty spicy for me and my friend, definitely more than mild. I felt like the pork curry had a great tomato-based flavor. Definitely different from the usual Thai curry I've tried before -- with the cilantro and the minced pork, it almost felt like Chinese cuisine. I personally enjoyed it. The steamed veggies felt a little undercooked, though.

Everyone needs a go-to Thai place and if you live on the UES, I'd highly recommend PuTawn. Their prices are reasonable and healthy sized portions. If you pay in cash, you get 10% off your bill too! Their menu is very extensive, 8-9 pages and they range from authentic Northern Thai food to your bread and butter Thai favorites - Pad See Ew, Penang Curry, Drunken Noodles, Tom Yum soup - they have it all! Our party of 6 made a reservation on a Saturday night and were seated promptly. We shared 4 appetizers and ordered our own entrees: -Fried Tofu ($7) -Spring Rolls ($8) -Chicken Wings ($10) -Yum Goong Salad ($14) -Pork Panang Curry ($15) -Chicken Pad Thai ($13) -Tom Yum Noodle Soup ($14) -Kow Soi Gao ($18) I personally had the pork panang curry and thought it was great! There was a reasonable amount of pork and the curry was very flavorful, with real authentic curry leaves inside the soup. Will be ordering takeout from here in the future, excited to try their Pad See Ew!

Great authentic Thai food, we took the ferry here after seeing the Kor Moo Yang and it didn't disappoint. Very juicy and big portions. We also ordered the Kow Soi Gai and it was also very good, the curry and chicken were very flavorful. The staff were also friendly and refilled my hibiscus juice to full when I wanted to take the half finished drink as takeout.

PuTawn is a great. It excels at the basics (pad thai, green curry, yada yada) but also offers some more unique northern Thai dishes. Everything is very flavorful, the prices are good, and the service is great and very attentive. The main reason that my wife and I choose PuTawn over other local Thai places is the spice factor. Of course, not all of PuTawn's food is spicy, but if you want to chase the burn, PuTawn will deliver. Their chef takes the phrase 'extra spicy' very seriously. Just be careful what you wish for. Also, the portions aren't huge but they are plenty. You will leave stuffed, though don't expect to leave with full doggybag's worth of lunch for tomorrow. But most importantly, PuTawn does not scrimp on the key ingredients. My wife had the Pad See Eew with Shrimp, for example, and it was LOADED with fat, juicy, shrimp. If you're looking for spicy food (or just all-around deliciousness) on the UES, look no further.

We took an hour train ride to come try their mango sticky rice. Upon entering, it's a small little Thai restaurant, decor is a little too dark to my liking but food is very good. We love the drinks, very delicious though I think my Thai iced tea was a bit too sweet but it's just because I have a low tolerance for sugars. The drunken noodles, coconut curry noodles and northern sausage were all delicious! We also ordered their famous mango sticky rice but I didn't find it special but also a bit too sweet to my liking, though I can see why people love it. Overall, we love the food but probably will not return due to the long commute.

So disappointed to write this review. My husband and I have been eating here for a while and twice it's gone downhill. We ordered online delivery from here a couple of weeks ago for 7PM and they delivered the food at 5:50PM instead. I guess it beats being late but we have a life and ordered for a specific time on purpose. We ended eating our food cold. I understand when delivery food is +-15min early or late but over an hour early to beat their in house rush is poor planning on their part Tonight we ordered from them again and they were late. I called and the lady on the phone didn't even realize our order was late or that we had even ordered online. Fine. Once I gave her my info she had our food delivered fairly quickly. Food was hot and honestly delicious until I found A WORM/CATERPILLAR in the salmon dish. I called to complain and they asked for the food back in order to get a refund. I then tried to clarify what they would like back. Just the worm dish or all the dishes and she responded with "just whatever you want we are really busy here right now". They asked us to leave our food hanging on our door for them to pick it up so they could refund us. Nobody picked it up. We found it outside our door this morning. We will never order from here again.
