After walking around twice at the Anaheim Packing House, I settled on Zabon, a modest ramen spot nestled between a hand roll bar and an Indian stand on the second floor. The menu was straightforward, and I deliberated between the three types of ramen before choosing the Zabon ramen, assuming it was their signature dish. I also added a flavored egg to the ramen and added karaage as a side, as it's one of my favorites. The server taking my order avoided eye contact and was abrupt when I took a moment to decide on my dishes. She handed me my buzzer and disappeared before I could ask any questions.
After about 15 minutes, my buzzer went off, and I went to collect my meal. The server briefly acknowledged me this time, informing me about the utensils on the counter. If you order the karaage and enjoy spice, I recommend trying the spicy mayo.
Upon my first bite and sip of the ramen broth, I was disappointed by its lack of flavor and depth. The soup was severely lacking in salt and was overall underwhelming, and the chashu was overcooked and chewy. The only highlight was the flavored egg, perfectly poached and flavorful. The karaage was decent, as it's hard to go wrong with fried chicken. With the lemon and spicy mayo, I found the chicken enjoyable. Overall, this experience was forgettable, and I wouldn't recommend it unless you like bland ramen.
