Zama Omakase - Review - Hell's Kitchen - New York - The Infatuation

"Part omakase and part kaiseki, this Hell’s Kitchen restaurant serves 15 courses of what looks like very elegantly plated seafood and sushi for the reasonable price of $108." - Molly Fitzpatrick

Zama Omakase was the perfect place to celebrate my birthday. Truly an unforgettable experience. We did the 15-course omakase, and I was blown away by both the quality and the value. At around $100 per person, it’s honestly one of the best omakase experiences I’ve had in NYC at this price point. Chef Ben was phenomenal. He was entertaining, incredibly knowledgeable, and took the time to thoroughly explain how each dish was prepared. He interacted with guests throughout the meal, creating a warm, intimate atmosphere. We never once felt rushed. It felt thoughtful, intentional, and special from start to finish. Standout courses included the tartare, the A5 wagyu with truffle, the scallop, the toro, and a unique dessert that was a perfect, unexpected way to end the night. If you’re looking for an omakase spot that delivers exceptional food, great hospitality, and an experience that feels personal and celebratory, Zama is a must. I’d absolutely come back and recommend it without hesitation.

Had such AMAZING experience at Zama omakase! Compared to other omakase restaurants around the area, I’d say this is above in terms of value, quality, ambiance, and service. We were a party of 4 and was seated very quickly, the host was very attentive, and Chef Ben made the experience that much better! Chef Ben was very engaging, enthusiastic, and answered any questions we had. Some people may be daunted by what an omakase is and worried about the price and whether it’ll be worth the experience. My short answer, YES it will be, especially at Zama. The quality of the ingredients, from the fish to the garnish were very fresh. With each bite outshining the last, each element of each dish played a role where nothing was unnecessary on the plate. I’ll definitely be coming back with more of my friends so they can try!

When people ask me my favorite restaurant ever…I don’t hesitate to say Zama. The service, the owner, the atmosphere and most of all the food was exceptional. If I could give out Michelin stars Zama would have multiple. The single best meal I’ve ever had. The ingredients were perfectly paired with every dish. And each dish was better than the last. If you’re looking for an Omakase that will raise all standards then don’t hesitate to book.

Zama Omakase is the BEST value omakase in the city! My boyfriend and I were so excited to see that this restaurant recently opened on our block. My boyfriend has tried dozens and dozens of omakase restaurants in NYC (& Japan) and this is his favorite one at this price point by far. Ben (owner & chef) is really nice, hardworking, and thoughtful. Unlike other ~$100 price range omakase chefs in the area, Ben has an extensive culinary background so the non-sashimi courses are truly differentiated. The restaurant is really nicely decorated and perfect for a date night or catch up with friends. It's one long table with a lot of seating. All the tableware is cute and intentional. The 15 courses takes about 1.5 - 2 hours. We would recommend this spot to anyone and hope you get to try it out!

Walked by the opening day and booked a reservation for later that night. Immediately greeted by by the nicest staff and knew we were in good hands. It was BYOB while they waited for their liquor license which was a great touch, as we were celebrating. Every course was carefully made, explained to us, and beautifully presented. Chef Benny made sure we knew the details around what we were consuming and it made the experience all the more intimate. There was a mix between sushi, cold dishes, and warm dishes. This left us feeling perfectly satisfied. My standouts were the chu-toro, the scallops, the chawanmushi, and the ginger tofu dessert. If you're looking for an omakase spot where they take care of you and are not rushing through a seating of just fish, this is the spot for you. We loved it so much we're going back with some friends visiting. Glad a great spot opened up in the neighborhood with quality to match. Wishing them continued success!

What an amazing experience at Zama Omakase. My wife and I were able to celebrate our ten year anniversary and it definitely was made extra special with great food and service all around. Chef Ben definitely brings a different style from the traditional omakase by adding extra layers of flavor that don’t hinder but compliments each of the fish pairings that were served. Creativity from the first dish to the last, thanks chef Ben and staff for the memorable experience!

I Had such an amazing experience at Zama Omakase! Chef Ben was so enthusiastic and engaged with making everything delicious. He really made the whole dinner feel unique and fantastic. Everything was super fresh, and beautifully presented. Every single dish was delicious and very creative like a piece of art. The restaurant's ambiance was peaceful and cozy, perfect for any special occasions or celebrations. Definitely one of the best omakase spots in NYC. It's completely worth it to try!

Had an absolutely AMAZING anniversary dinner here. Chef Benshun is truly an artist. For the first time EVER I enjoyed oyster, was able to experience a wide variety of different fish, Japanese fruits, and exceptional service. I also loved his incorporations of hot and cold meals. Cannot wait to experience another unique dining experience here.

Yelp
Truly what a stellar omakase. This was so fun at such a great price point. It truly feels like a steal at the $108 I believe it is for a lovely dining experience. We stayed for 2 hours, had sake with the owner, got to know the owner, and enjoyed almost every bite! The space is beautifully designed and it is extremely welcoming. From the moment you walk in you are greeted with exuberance. The oyster, uni, caviar piece that is near the beginning is just so tasty, and the tuna tartare is very good. I loved what we were getting with the standouts being the Ikura & Uni piece, scallop, A5 wagyu, and king salmon, but there were so many good pieces from Otoro to horse mackarel, it was just a treat! The owner makes his own ice cream as well, and so we had a ginger candy ice cream that was just so exceptional and a great way to end the meal. We will be back often as this hits the great mix of affordable and thoughtfully done.

Yelp
This place just opened and I could tell it's going to be quite popular. The Omakase selections were perfect, and so was the service. Loved the presentations. Also, the price point of the quality is outstanding. Will definitely be back.
