Casual Indian-Pakistani spot with flavorful chicken tikka masala
"You’re liable to encounter a line when you stop into the Mountain View location of Zareen’s, a tiny halal Indian-Pakistani spot in an unassuming strip mall near the Google campus. Don’t worry—this location is carry-out only, and the automated ordering system and efficient kitchen team mean food comes out fast, even when it’s busy. Get the flaky paratha, an order of the velvety tarka daal with yellow lentils and caramelized onions (it appears simple but trust us, you won’t be able to stop eating it), and either the hearty madras chicken curry or the creamy paneer tikka masala. For a less traditional but equally satisfying alternative, get the charcoal-grilled tandoori chicken burger with green and tamarind chutneys. It’ll have you rethinking everything you thought you knew about what belongs on a bun." - gabi moskowitz
"If you live in Palo Alto you probably already know Zareen’s. This iconic Indian and Pakistani place operates with lightning-fast efficiency and the food is excellent. Do we wish that we felt less pressure to vacate our table? Yes, but that doesn’t detract from the fact that the chicken tikka masala is buttery, the palak methi paneer is full of crispy cheese, and the lamb gosht falls apart with a stern glance. Grab a mango lassi while you wait for the (very) short amount of time it takes to get your food. Just make sure to order a side of the fluffy garlic naan." - julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez, gabi moskowitz
"This fast-casual Pakistani and Indian spot always often has a line, but it moves at a good clip, as engineers in hoodies and sneakers load up on kebabs and curries, served on metal plates with lots of exciting compartments. The chef’s owner Zareen Khan released her first cookbook in spring 2025, to boot." - Becky Duffett
