New Zealand-style soft serve blended with real fruit toppings

"While most ice cream shops are all about the base, this Portland-born, New Zealand-style soft serve shop in East Austin focuses on the toppings, blending real fruit into every swirl. Choose from options like strawberry, pineapple, and banana, and top your cone or cup with chamoy drizzle or toasted coconut. There is a vegan version of the vanilla base as well. The texture is smooth, the fruit flavors are bright, and the whole thing feels a little lighter than your usual soft serve. There’s a second location in Tarrytown, but it doesn’t serve any coffee drinks." - Darcie Duttweiler

"Zeds serves soft serve ice cream blended with fresh fruit to order, creating a dessert that’s a little easier to justify after eating a few too many tacos on the East Side. You start with a base, then choose from whatever fruits they have. It all gets blended together and topped with various drizzles and toppings. But if you want something more than vanilla and fruit, they also have rotating specials like a blackberry pie, complete with la lechera, graham crackers, and, of course, blackberries." - raphael brion, nicolai mccrary

"The Portland import makes its soft serve with actual fruit — ranging from peaches to dark cherries — plus vanilla (with a vegan option available). Then there are drizzles like chamoy and toppings like toasted coconuts. There are cups and waffle cones too. Takeout orders can be placed in person; there are outdoor dine-in areas." - Nadia Chaudhury
"South Congress vegan truck Mission Burger Co. opened a second location in East Austin last month. It is found at sweets shop Zeds Ice Cream in the Chestnut neighborhood at 1814 Harvey Street as of September 29. The menu includes its main vegan Mission Burger, a smaller version of it, and fries. Its hours are from 4 to 11 p.m. daily." - Nadia Chaudhury
