The 22 Best Bakeries In London - London - The Infatuation

"For: A feat of German engineering, the currywurst sausage roll Zeit Für Brot translates as ‘time for bread’, but to experience the best of this German artisanal bakery import in Islington, repeat after us—“zeit für currywurst sausage roll”. In a sea of sugary apfel classics and huge, glossy cinnamon schnecken, this savoury option is a flaky sausage roll and a jar of mustard, without the dipping middle man." - rianne shlebak, sinead cranna, daisy meager, heidi lauth beasley

If you’re looking for an amazing bakery in Berlin, you’ve got to check this place out! They have such a fantastic variety of delicious treats that it's hard to choose. On my first visit, I didn’t get to try everything, but I saw so many mouthwatering options that I can’t wait to go back! From tasty pastries to fresh breads, there’s really something for everyone to enjoy. Plus, the staff are super friendly and attentive, making the whole experience even more enjoyable. It’s definitely a spot that will have you coming back for more!

Google
Absolutely loved this place! I had the hummus sandwich which was fresh, flavourful, and seriously delicious. But the real star was the cinnamon bun, which was honestly mind-blowing. Soft, moist, perfectly spiced, truly everything you could want in a bun. Despite a queue stretching out the door when we arrived, the staff were lovely, helpful, and still smiling under pressure. It made the whole experience even better.

Google
Omg, the cinnamon rolls are truly the best ones I have ever eaten (and I have eaten a lot of them). The classic cinnamon is just out of this world: soft like a cloud and perfectly spiced and wet. One of the best thing I’ve eaten there in Berlin!!! So if you’re here you definitely need to go there!!

Fabrizio Porreca

Google
It’s huge and offers a vast selection of savoury and sweet pastries, but the sweets really steal the show. Drinks are good too. Everything is fresh and made with quality ingredients, so I recommend trying whatever catches your eye. I personally suggest cinnamon buns.

Google
One of my favourite bakeries in Germany. It’s a chain bakery but serves pastry and bread at the same quality of specialty gourmet bakeries! We had their cardamom bun and Nutella chocolate bun and both were delicious. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating available.

Google
We had cheese stick, sandwich and this delicious for the breakfast. Amazing taste! Coffee was also tasty and served with great hot mugs. I gave four stars because cheese stick was very hard I was expecting more eatable:) I recommend this place for simple and nice breakfast!

Zeit für Brot – Cinnamon Heaven with a Side of Chaos If there’s one scent that can lure you off any Berlin street, it’s the warm, buttery aroma wafting from Zeit für Brot. Known for their legendary cinnamon rolls, this spot delivers a breakfast that’s both comforting and indulgent. I went for the white chocolate and apple cinnamon rolls, paired with a solid Americano—a combo that was not only delicious but surprisingly filling. Sweet, sticky, and perfectly baked, each roll felt like a little hug in pastry form. The selection doesn’t stop there—a wide range of cinnamon buns, sandwiches, and fresh breads makes it easy to find something that hits the spot. That said, brace yourself for the crowd. This place is popular—and it shows. If you’re not a fan of lines or packed seating, aim for an early visit right at store opening, when the cinnamon rolls are fresh and the vibe is calm. Verdict: Absolutely worth the hype, especially if you catch it before the rush. Cinnamon lovers, this one's a must.

Google
This bakery offers freshly baked goods made on site every day. There is a wide selection to choose from, ranging from savory sandwiches to sweet cinnamon rolls and other pastries. You can sit at one of the tables, enjoy a delicious pastry, and drink a cup of coffee in a cozy atmosphere. The friendly staff and inviting vibe make it a perfect spot for a relaxing coffee break with something fresh from the oven.

Yelp
TL;DR - Months later I'm still raving about this place. We read about Zeit für Brot before our most recent trip to Berlin, and having read such good things we had to give it a try. We came in mid afternoon for a coffee and something to eat, but nothing could have prepared me for the treat which awaited me. I went for a weisse schoko-himbeer-schnecke - a white chocolate and raspberry filled enriched bread and... well, frankly it was life changing. One of the most delicious baked items I've ever eaten. I've hunted for the recipe online since returning to the UK but without success. Coffee was really good too and the service was pleasant. The weather was hot so they had big windows open at the front of the cafe, although quite a lot of sparrows had flown inside which were a bit of a nuisance. But the baked goods! You'd forgive anything to lay your hands on these. So good. Next time I'm in Berlin, this is my first stop.

Yelp
Love, love, love. Sadly they do not have self- control available for their visitors, but they do have beautifully prepared sweet or savory bread related products - there really is no better place to go. I can't honestly say that I searched for variety - when I know that I like something, why stray? Cinnamon rolls - not the cloying type that you get covered in a sugar glaze - these had a fair bit of sugar, but it was neatly tucked into the rolls of the cinnamon. There was a focaccia type bread served with juicy mini tomatoes, rosemary and ethereal goodness (no extra charge). Most people knew what they wanted on the efficiently run lines, but those who did not received painstaking explanations. I liked it and still think about each of the items I tried (and those I missed)

Yelp
Sorry I dont get the hype :( The cinnamon bund was just okay, and honestly a little too sweet for my liking. Maybe it would have been better with coffee but I had high expectations after reading all the other reviews and unfortunately the bakery just fell short.

Yelp
The raspberry white chocolate pastry was such a great afternoon snack. The raspberry tasted fresh and tart (like ground up berries instead of jam). The white chocolate complemented the berries well, and there wasn't too much so the pastry didn't feel too heavy. It was pretty busy when I went (4pm) but the seating area is quite large.
google avatar

Yelp
Best cinnamon roll I've ever had. It is so soft, fluffy, and moist with the perfect cinnamon flavor. I walked 30 minutes in the rain for this and it was well worth it.
google avatar

Natalye R.

Yelp
OK, I get that people are obsessed with the bread/baked goods. But 4 euros for a large black coffee? No thank you.
google avatar

Lacey Z.

Yelp
My all time favorite German bakery!!! Food sells out for good reason. The chocolate cinnamon rolls are gooey and chocolatey, the pastries are fresh and beautiful. There is usually a long line because it's so good and so worth the wait.
google avatar

Jude N.

Yelp
This place is busy! The rolls are insanely delicious. The sandwiches are tasty. More importantly, it's the mood and the people. Even it's long line out, inside if you find a seat, it's pretty quiet and peaceful. Definitely recommend

Yelp
Great baked goods with wonderful service in an inviting and cheerful location. Will definitely come back.

Yelp
I went to Zeit fur Brot in Frankfurt and was pleasantly surprised to see it here as well. I came here twice and tried the white chocolate raspberry, gooseberry, and dark chocolate. All super tasty. The white chocolate was a bit too sweet, but the gooseberry and dark chocolate were perfect. Gooseberry was a bit tart which was tasty, and the dark chocolate had a very strong dark chocolate flavor (I got the dark chocolate one on a weekday morning around 8AM and I got the last one - when I came on a Sunday morning, the line was huge and there was no more dark chocolate when I got to the front of the line). Each one is about €4 so it's a tad pricey, but the quality is very good and super tasty!

Yelp
This place will ruin you. You will think about it and strongly desire their cinnamon rolls for the rest of your life. All other cinnamon rolls will disappoint you. I'm actually upset this place isn't a solid 5 stars from everyone. I don't care that their other pastries could just be eh; their cinnamon rolls are so amazing (PERFECTLY soft, delicate, sweet) that it's all that matters.
google avatar

Dian K.

Yelp
Within a block you can usually smell the cinnamon bun. We happened to be staying nearby and decided to try one morning. While they're famous for the cinnamon bun, I thought their chocolate bun was the better of the two. It's almost like they just melted chocolate and drizzle it all over the bun. Very decadent and delicious - good quality chocolate. The cinnamon bun isn't so overly sweet like what I'm used to in US, so that was a pleasant surprise (so if you're expecting Cinnabon sweetness, this is not)
google avatar

Gina L.

Yelp
The chocolate roll is to die for! I had to try this spot out on my last day in Berlin. Savored every bite and wish I could have another one right now. Good thing there wasn't a line when I got there, but as soon as I placed my order, there was a line out the door. I also got the iced chai latte. Nothing special, but the roll made up for it. A must try!

Yelp
we ate here two times while in berlin and each time was amazing. their cinnamon buns... heck, every one of their buns, are out of this world delicious and sweet. the woman we spoke with spoke english as well as german, which was awesome. there was a cooler to the right of the door when you walk in with a couple different yogurts inside. i liked the apfel one the best. ooh, also natural water is what you want -- unless you enjoy carbonation in your water -- then go for classic.

Yelp
Poor unpleasant service, require maintenance, small portions, there are better alternatives around the corner

Yelp
Ether this business has moved a few blocks away or they just opened up a new location. I went here in on Weinbergsweg next to the Circus Hostel, which is about two blocks away from what's listed here. We tried one of their many types of cinnamon roll, which was a little plain but probably just the type we picked out. It wasn't overly sweet which made it more satisfying for breakfast. The muesli was really good with lots of chia and jam. Probably my favorite version that I've had at a cafe/restaurant in a while. We took home a loaf of their volkhorn which was delicious and seedy. I'm giving four stars because although everything was tasty, there is nothing particularly outstanding about this place, plus their coffee is a bit pricey. It's a solid breakfast option in the area where you can grab something to go, but also be warned that seating there is hard to get and is sort of awkward with low lying tables.
google avatar

Bryan B.

Yelp
Chocolate rolls, chocolate rolls, chocolate rolls! This is a must stop if you are in Berlin. Thankfully it was close to our flat and we grabbed some on the go. The rolls can be a little sticky, so make sure you have a fork and knife to eat it! Will definitely be back for breakfast next time we're in Berlin.
google avatar

Lara T.

Yelp
Stopped by to take a look at their baked goods, but ended up buying a chai latte to go! The cinnamon rolls and other pastries and bread looked delicious as well though, so I would love to go again. Food: - Chai Latte--€3.30 Hot, milky, frothy, and warming. It would satisfy anyone's craving for a warm drink on a cold day! Tips: - Lots of seating so drop by for some food and spend time relaxing. Otherwise, if it's crowded, get a drink and pastries to go and head to the nearby park where there are benches.

Yelp
This bakery is worth a visit if you're in Berlin. They have a wide range of pastries and other baked goods available. Had the pretzel croissant and the white chocolate/raspberry bun. The croissant was a perfect hybrid, never tasted anything like it... the bun was sweet, would have loved to try the other flavours. The coffee is excellent too. I waited in line for a bit but it was worth it.

Yelp
Came for the sandwiches. Stayed for the cinnamon buns. My first day in Berlin, I was looking for a lunch spot and this came up in my wandering. It looked like they only had vegetarian sandwiches, so I left seeking alternative options. Days later a friend mentioned wanting to go for the cinnamon buns - truly this is where their culinary expertise shines! The buns were incredible - we tried the apple cinnamon and plum buns. Two buns split 4 ways was certainly enough for us paired with a round of coffees. The place was packed but we managed to squeeze around a small table and enjoy the buns. I'd love to overtime try them all if I find myself in Berlin often enough! Definitely don't miss these buns, I've not seen anything like them before! Note some locations are busier than others so check google maps and find the lease busy one when you want to go otherwise there is a long line out the door. We were able to just walk in!
google avatar

Angela W.

Yelp
everyone comes here for the cinnamon rolls, but I didn't think they were that good. I ordered the chocolate cinnamon roll, and it wasn't warm or particularly special. they have a variety of flavors which might be why people love them so much. they are also pretty pricey for $2.70 per cinnamon roll. however, the next day, i decided to give this bakery another try. this time, i slipped the cinnamon roll, and i got a pretzel croissant. this was delicious. it was warm and buttery, and I thought it was way better than the cinnamon roll. i would definitely recommend the pretzel croissant over the cinnamon roll.
google avatar

Brian F.

Yelp
I dig this place. While the cinnamon buns aren't earth shattering in flavor, they have a great variety, and they're neither too sweet or too buttery; they also mercifully lack the chemical flavor of a Cinnabon. I got the cherry white chocolate, and while I wished for a deeper flavor, next time I'll try the cherry marzipan. They have pretzel croissants too, and I can't wait to try them.
google avatar

Shirley M.

Yelp
OKAY YES. 10/10 I don't think I've ever eaten this many cinnamon rolls in one sitting but...not complaining. When you first step into the store, you're greeted warmly with the wonderful aroma of S U G A R & cinnamon. These cinnamon rolls are so fresh and fluffy!! We got the original and then two other ones (choc raspberry & raspberry). The original was so yummy and we also loved the chocolate raspberry one! The one with raspberry and almonds on top was a little dry so wouldn't recommend getting that one. They literally have over 6 different flavors and I feel like you can't go wrong with most of them. Seating is limited but it's a cute place!!
google avatar

Lexi R.

Yelp
Affordable delicious desserts!! I got the apple strudel (2.70 euro) and half of a cinnamon roll with chocolate (which they sold to me for 1 euro). I suggest taking it home, warming it up in the microwave, and eating it with a glass of cold milk.
google avatar

Alison K.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday morning and the line was out the door. They have seating inside and outside, and you can also take your order to go. We got an iced coffee, cappuccino, chocolate bun, and marzipan cherry bun. We managed to get a table inside. The buns were super delicious and definitely worth the wait outside in the heat!

Eun J.

Yelp
Love this place and super busy but have enough chairs to seat ! Good coffee ! All sandwiches are tasty but egg sandwich. Breads are all fantastic
google avatar

Peter N.

Yelp
While the food is decent, the service leaves much to be desired. The employees are not proactive or helpful.
google avatar

Jamie C.

Yelp
Their breads are so good! Fresh and delicious. We ordered a variety of breads and they were just as good as they looked. Good quick breakfast spot. Recommend!!
google avatar

Maggie H.

Yelp
Delicious cinnamon rolls and sour dough bread (ask for the house bread). It can get quite busy, and the prices are a little high, but worth it!
google avatar

Heidi O.

Yelp
Overrated and overpriced for what you get- try a hole in the wall bakery for the real German experience. Their Schnecken (rolls of all kinds) used to be awesome but are now consistently smaller than they used to be and with much less (in the case of the Mandel Marzipan Schnecke I am finishing right now, none) of the generously distributed fillings that made their high prices worth it in the past. Sorry Zeit für Brot- you used to be a favorite for me with friends visiting the city but you're officially off my list and I'm going to find a bakery with better quality control.
google avatar

Henry Z.

Yelp
I was staying at a hostel about a block away and saw this coffee shop while walking to the U-Bahn station. It seemed very popular with locals so I decided to check it out. I ordered a salami sandwich and a cappuccino. The staff was super friendly and both the food and coffee were amazing. It might be a bit difficult to find a seat but you can sit near the windows or outside as well.
google avatar

Rebecca H.

Yelp
Really good coffee and really good vegan sourdough chocolate bread! Only thing I would wish for is a vegan version of the really good looking cinnamon roll!
google avatar

Liza P.

Yelp
Truly fantastic bread!! Don't be discouraged by the trendy neighborhood and the long line of young lunching women - this place is not just getting by on hype. Lovely place to stop for a cappuccino after wandering around Mitte all day. The coffee is ok -good, but there are some fantastic coffee shops in the area, so unfortunately this cup pales in comparison... and please be kind to yourself and get a cinnamon roll! They are perfect. Yes, you heard me - not just good, not even great - PERFECT! The tables are usually quite full, but this is Berlin, so people are nice and don't mind sharing. Before you leave, get a loaf of bread, any bread, it's all fresh and terrific!
google avatar

Tejas G.

Yelp
This is the best bread I've ever had in my life. Highly recommend the cinnamon rolls here - the bread was crispy on the outside, but soft and tasty on the inside. Staff is very nice, and the whole environment exudes a relaxed, comfortable vibe.
google avatar

Tzahi Y.

Yelp
Love this place. A variety of cinnamon rolls, hot and tasty. Great service and nice atmosphere. I went there twice on a 3 day trip to Berlin. And took one back home, abroad.
google avatar

Ines C.

Yelp
YES. This bakery is an institution in Berlin and for good reason. Their traditional whole grain German bread is absolutely spectacular and as whole grain as t can get! That said... there is always room for one of their ginormous cinnamon buns. They have all kinds of flavours and they are all light and fluffy and not dry at all! Go go go!
google avatar

Gerd P.

Yelp
Oh - yes! Take me back there!!! Bread and more - where good quality for getting a inside breakfast or to take away the stuff. I like the fresh cinnamon rolls and the very, very good espresso!!! Nice environment w/ mixed visitors.
google avatar

Jillian K.

Yelp
Wonderful Cinnamon rolls!! Come in a variety of flavors but we just went with the basic cinnamon and were not disappointed. Bit of a walk from the city center but well worth it if you have some time
google avatar

Hiran T.

Yelp
Amazing cinnamon rolls and freshly baked bread products (I mean really warm, soft and made by the bakers you can see through a large window), this place has queues stretching out of the door from the moment it opens. Situated in a trendy part of town, this bakery is a little slice of heaven for foodies from everywhere

Sidney F.

Yelp
Interior: awesome. Nice big windows with birds flying around outside seating. And can see the bakers bake through glass window. Staff: super friendly and helpful. Comfortable place to be Menu: lots of bread. Spot on for a bakery. Coffee selection was good too. Food: ate one of their roll things. Not such which one, don't speak German, just pointed and hoped for the best. Turned out great. Drink: bottled water. Solid. Overall: delicious
google avatar

Sarah D.

Yelp
Oh my god. Delicious. I got the Nut and nougat bun and i just want the taste in my mouth forever. Ordered a hot chocolate as well which is literally just warm milk with pieces of chocolate in a small dish overtop that you dump into your milk. It was absolute heaven. By far one of the best cinnamon buns I have ever eaten in my life. The staff is super friendly as well, and were very kind about my not being able to speak german. Despite being surrounded by hotels, you will hear mostly german spoken inside, so it must be hip with the locals. Average prices for a coffee shop, I paid about 6 euro for my drink and treat, but it was so so so worth it.
google avatar

Sori K.

Yelp
I love here bread roll. I recommend chocolate roll and its gone really fast, hurry up!
google avatar

Erinc S.

Yelp
Incredible cinnamon rolls are the highlight of this wonderful bakery. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Anthony M.

Yelp
Probably the nicest coffee shop in Berlin. The employees are friendly to tourists but you still get that local Berlin vibe as many locals go to that coffee shop.
google avatar

Randy H.

Yelp
Wow, this place has mastered the cinnamon roll, with all types of varieties. We had the apple and white chocolate renditions, and they both were excellent. Would have loved to try more versions, but we had lots of other food to eat that day in Berlin.
google avatar

Jennifer H.

Yelp
I just discovered this place while taking a walk during lunch. I had just actually just eaten, but the smell drew me in anyways and made me order a cinnamon roll even though was stuffed to the max. BUT, oh, wow was this cinnamon bun good! It tasted just like i remember it from the US. It was warm and soft and not dry at all, rather deliciously juicy. Now, this is another place that is dangerously close to work that i need to avoid. Besides the awesome sweets they also sell sandwiches, coffee, tea etc and bread as this is an organic bakery. Great addition to the neighborhood and I will be back!

Felix R.

Yelp
Mediocre food, highly unorganized service, super overpriced. Never again. Waited for our coffee while 5 people that order after us were getting there drinks before us. When being asked about our coffees we got a rude reply. When we complained and asked for our money back the guy literally asked me if the coffee guy (not gonna call him a barista on purpose) knew about our coffees. Well... as if it was my job... we left annoyed with two danish, who turned out to be okay but highly overpriced for 2.90€... Well another place on those top10 lists that was highly disappointing. I'm really is true, once a place hits that top 10 mark it's only downhill from there.
google avatar

Greg A.

Yelp
My wife and I were looking for a good bakery for our last morning in Berlin and chose this one based on other reviews. The coffee, cinnamon rolls, and pretzel were as good as we had hoped if not better! We highly recommend it to anyone in the area. We ordered the cinnamon roll and maple walnut bun. Both were tremendous.

Jane T.

Yelp
Great selection of bread. A daily must for a lot of us Berliners! They also have areas to sit for coffee. ( not the best coffee in pberg but bread wise there's quite a few)
