Zeit Für Brot - Review - Islington - London - The Infatuation

"A moment please, while we masquerade as Duolingo. Zeit Für Brot translates as ‘time for bread’, but to experience the best of this German artisanal bakery import, repeat after us—“zeit für currywurst sausage roll”. In a sea of sugary apfel classics and huge, glossy cinnamon schnecken, this savoury option is effectively a flaky sausage roll and a jar of mustard, without the dipping middle man. There are also few sausage rolls in London that can be consumed on a corner of Islington in a cafe that’s all soft wooden curves, peachy terracotta walls, and hidden alcoves where you and a crisp paperback can romanticise your life. If performative reading isn’t your thing, then walk past the sugar-bait pastry counter to the third section of seating, where you can watch their team of bakers folding dough and crafting the titular loaves through the glass. Or just get the hench roast beef sandwich and one of the expertly spiced cinnamon rolls to go the next time you’ve developed the ick for your rinse-and-repeat meal deal order. photo credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley video credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley video credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley Pause Unmute Food Rundown Currywurst Sausage Roll Very important evidence that size isn’t everything when it comes to sausage rolls. This klein roll contains enough sharp mustard to get your sinuses tingling while the glazed pastry has a sweet hint of caramel. One to return for time and time again. PlayMute video credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley Rare Roast Beef Stulle Our official muse for putting carrot in all meaty sandwiches. The wedge of tender pink roast beef slices could be overwhelming but the lather of mustard and slightly bitter salad leaves keeps any meat overload woes in check. photo credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley Crispy Chicken Schnitzel Tasche Each element of this sandwich is excellent but the combination of breaded schnitzel and thick toasted bread makes for a pretty dry bite. Skip. PlayMute video credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley Apple Cinnamon Schnecke Sometimes you eat a pastry that becomes a benchmark for all other London pastries to, unknowingly, aspire to. And this XL schnecke has set the bar for the heavy-duty amount of cinnamon we want in a cinnamon bun. It also has a layer of fresh, juicy apple slices, so eat it pronto to prevent any excess moisture issues. photo credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley" - Heidi Lauth Beasley

Really lovely new coffee shop in Angel, situated ideally opposite the tube Staff are really friendly and produce is fresh and delicious. Prices are also reasonable and fair! I had the apple crumble porridge and it was delicious, as well as a savoury croissant with cheese, pesto, and tomatoes. They have great options of fresh bread to take home and lots of German pastries, would defiantly be going back here! Nice place to just sit and chill with your book or meet a friend

Recently opened and there are already queues. This place is doing great business and I imagine will open other branches. As someone who knows German bakeries well, this is far and away the best German bakery I’ve ever visited. All the products are fresh and delicious. The quality brands used for coffee, milk, oat milk etc are high. The service is friendly, polite and efficient. This place is a must visit. The only thing I’d improve is having chocolate spread available for the pretzels!

New bakery serving coffee bread and sweet baked goods. The space is full of light with big windows - perfect on a sunny day. The layout is aesthetically pleasing, though some of the seating had low stools for tables which weren't convenient. There's more space to sit than you see on first entry, continue past the coffee machine and there are various tables in front of big glass windows showing off the frenetic bakers at work. The service at the cashier was friendly and efficient, though they don't seem to clear tables very quickly. You have to go back up for your hot drinks if you're sitting in - listen out for your name or you'll miss the call. Pleasing, safe aesthetic and good location, perfect for foot traffic.

One of the best German bakery in London. Very familiar with this chain from Berlin, Zeit Für Brot means ‘time for bread’. Was looking forward to the grand opening today - it didn’t disappoint! Great coffee, warm interior, long opening hours so you can pick up rolls after work and quick service. We tried the chocolate buns, potato sourdough bread, bread rolls, everything tasted delicious. The best news for bread/pastry lovers is that - like any good German bakery, they can slice the breads for you! Zeit Für Brot shall be our favourite local bakery and hopefully yours too.

This place is a must-try! I was so pleasantly surprised by the flavours of the bread in my sandwich, that I got myself the whole loaf. I got a veggie sandwich (can't remember the name), a white chocolate and raspberry kind of brioche and a matcha latte. It was all very good and the service was swift and friendly. I will definitely be back

Friendly fast service. Clean shop and nice interior. Edit. Service could be faster lot of tapping on the till. Schnecke pastries a little bland eg cinnamon schnecke. Couldnt find pretzels, strudel, etc. Nice place but gives the vibe of a startup that hasn’t figured it out yet. As somebody said you can get equally nice pastries from buns from home

Sunday 4th May 2025 I visited Zeit Fur Brot for the first time this afternoon. I work in the Islington area and where this opened I recent weeks, I decided to give it a try. I enjoyed my Brotchen and the Green Juice. There are a wide range of healthy juices and teas stocked in the fridge as you enter. Although they didn't have condiment and it would be nice if there was a wider range of options, it was a nice experience. My food was delicious, the design and ambience was nice and bright and it's located in a nice and busy location. I'll certainly pop by again.

I’ve been waiting eight years for a proper German 🇩🇪 bakery to open in London, so I’m beyond excited that it’s ZEIT FÜR BROT! We stopped by today and had such a great experience—not only was the team super lovely, but there’s plenty of seating inside too. The bread? Absolutely amazing. I took home the walnut date loaf (sliced to my preferred thickness, which was such a nice touch). I also tried the pretzel bun, the cheese stick, and we couldn’t resist the cinnamon apple bun. Can’t wait to come back and taste even more! Oh and the coffee was amazing, they use FAT HIPPO coffee 😍

My German friend sent me an excited text message saying that a German bakery will be opening in London soon. Clearly, we needed to check it out and on a sunny Saturday afternoon we joined the long queue of similarly-curious bread lovers. Speaking of bread: it's the real deal and I'm so glad there's finally a source for excellent wholegrain loaves that are close to in weight of a brick stone. (I can already fully recommend the "Saftkorn" which translates to "juicy seeds".) Here's my little rant though: I was hoping that in terms of sweet offerings, they would carry German classics like Bienenstich or Streuselkuchen or classic fruit sheet cakes. Nope. Instead they jumped on the trend and offer cinnamon rolls and cardamom buns. Granted, they were tasty, but everyone else does them! Anyway, I'll be back for the bread. Tip from a German: have your bread sliced, put it in a resealable bag and freeze it. It's delicious for a long time!
