Zeit Für Brot - Review - Islington - London - The Infatuation

"A moment please, while we masquerade as Duolingo. Zeit Für Brot translates as ‘time for bread’, but to experience the best of this German artisanal bakery import, repeat after us—“zeit für currywurst sausage roll”. In a sea of sugary apfel classics and huge, glossy cinnamon schnecken, this savoury option is effectively a flaky sausage roll and a jar of mustard, without the dipping middle man. There are also few sausage rolls in London that can be consumed on a corner of Islington in a cafe that’s all soft wooden curves, peachy terracotta walls, and hidden alcoves where you and a crisp paperback can romanticise your life. If performative reading isn’t your thing, then walk past the sugar-bait pastry counter to the third section of seating, where you can watch their team of bakers folding dough and crafting the titular loaves through the glass. Or just get the hench roast beef sandwich and one of the expertly spiced cinnamon rolls to go the next time you’ve developed the ick for your rinse-and-repeat meal deal order. photo credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley video credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley video credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley Pause Unmute Food Rundown Currywurst Sausage Roll Very important evidence that size isn’t everything when it comes to sausage rolls. This klein roll contains enough sharp mustard to get your sinuses tingling while the glazed pastry has a sweet hint of caramel. One to return for time and time again. PlayMute video credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley Rare Roast Beef Stulle Our official muse for putting carrot in all meaty sandwiches. The wedge of tender pink roast beef slices could be overwhelming but the lather of mustard and slightly bitter salad leaves keeps any meat overload woes in check. photo credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley Crispy Chicken Schnitzel Tasche Each element of this sandwich is excellent but the combination of breaded schnitzel and thick toasted bread makes for a pretty dry bite. Skip. PlayMute video credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley Apple Cinnamon Schnecke Sometimes you eat a pastry that becomes a benchmark for all other London pastries to, unknowingly, aspire to. And this XL schnecke has set the bar for the heavy-duty amount of cinnamon we want in a cinnamon bun. It also has a layer of fresh, juicy apple slices, so eat it pronto to prevent any excess moisture issues. photo credit: Heidi Lauth Beasley" - Heidi Lauth Beasley

I been thinking to visit this place for a while now. I finally did today, unfortunately I didn’t eat anything so can’t rate this but my oat latte was very good. The service was nice and friendly. The place was very busy and its was hard to find a space to sit. Next time when it will be quieter I will eat something. I wanted to read my book and chill but it wasn’t the best place to do so. I still think this place is cool, just very busy. Tables could be checked more often. I been given a loyalty card after I saw someone having it and asking the staff for it. I will visit soon to try the bread and pastries.

German bakery and cafe in the heart of Angel. Pretty big choice of bread, pastry, and other food. Perfect cardamon bun and good coffee nicely served. Kind and quick service. Light, spacious interior with the tables in front of big windows. Clean toilet with all supplies.

We visited ZfB in Germany a while ago and loved their pastries, so we were really excited to try the London one in Angel. Unfortunately, our experience wasn’t great. The pastries were decent, but the staff came across as unprofessional and rude, which really spoiled the visit. We ordered an apple cinnamon schnecke and franzbrotchen, along with a chai latte with oat milk and a regular matcha latte. When the drinks arrived, we were given two chai lattes instead; one with oat milk and one with regular milk. I politely mentioned that I had ordered a matcha latte, and while the barista said they’d make it, they made it very obvious it was a huge nuisance to them. I offered to check the receipt to avoid any misunderstanding but realised I hadn’t been given one. They then told me to check the price I’d paid, and when I did, they didn’t respond. On top of that my friend has lactose intolerance and they couldn’t tell us which of the two Chai Lattes was with oat milk, so we had to taste them both to figure it out but they seemed quite taken aback by us taking all three drinks… If they had simply told us we made a mistake, we would have happily apologised and paid the difference, but instead, they were dismissive. The pastries and drinks were nice, but the service left such a poor impression that we don’t see ourselves coming back.

Served by Jonathan, who provided excellent service and took time to explain the range of pastries on offer. The rye bread was excellent, and there were several good vegan options available. The café stays open late and has a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere.

I am delighted to announce that I have finally found a place where I can buy my beloved rye bread. This shop also slice it up to your desired thickness. Near Angel station I feel the price is a bit higher than what I would like. But the bread is very authentic and delicious

By now I’ve probably had pastries here at least 5 times and it always hits the spot. Absolutely amazing I definitely recommend the walnut shnek and the cardamom roll. I haven’t tried the bread but the variety is broad and looks all yummy. Also the coffee is very good + my girlfriend loves it too!

A large bakery with fantasticly fresh bread. I ordered the egg roll which was yummy. The bread on the roll was so fresh! I was considering just buying more plain bread rolls because it was so good. I also ordered the white chocolate and raspberry pastry bread, the dough was again so fresh and really light. There is lots of seating both inside and outside. I would suggest a seat where you can watch the bakers work at impressive speed.

A great variety of pastries and sandwiches. Friendly staff. Coffee and juices 🥤. I had a nice ice latte and I really like the ice are smaller than usual so you get more coffee in the cup. Had a bacon and Egg bun very tasty as well.

Yelp
My German friend sent me an excited text message saying that a German bakery will be opening in London soon. Clearly, we needed to check it out and on a sunny Saturday afternoon we joined the long queue of similarly-curious bread lovers. Speaking of bread: it's the real deal and I'm so glad there's finally a source for excellent wholegrain loaves that are close to in weight of a brick stone. (I can already fully recommend the "Saftkorn" which translates to "juicy seeds".) Here's my little rant though: I was hoping that in terms of sweet offerings, they would carry German classics like Bienenstich or Streuselkuchen or classic fruit sheet cakes. Nope. Instead they jumped on the trend and offer cinnamon rolls and cardamom buns. Granted, they were tasty, but everyone else does them! Anyway, I'll be back for the bread. Tip from a German: have your bread sliced, put it in a resealable bag and freeze it. It's delicious for a long time!
