"Zhu Vegan recently opened at the end of 2020, and early reviews from the community are overwhelmingly positive. We have yet to try this Chinese/Japanese/Thai vegan spot, but we’re certainly looking forward to some kung pao eggplant and smoked teriyaki seitan in the near future. We haven’t been here yet, but want you to know this spot exists." - Team Infatuation

Amazing new restaurant in Brookline! I’m so happy they are now open for dine-in. First of all, the food is incredible, you can’t go wrong with what you choose. I went with the Autumn Rolls and the Grilled Eggplant and the King Oyster Mushrooms. I brought my friend who isn’t vegan and she even thought the food was incredible! To top off the experience, the decor is so nice and lush and cozy, and the our server, Christian, is exceptionally friendly and attentive. can’t recommend this place enough!

Super clean and nicely-decorated, comfortable (a/k/a small) place. My only recommendation would be to add cushions to the seating - not everyone wants to sit on a wooden bench for an hour. Started with the soy skewers - very tasty. Shared entrees of Malaysian Curry Stew (delicious) and Soy Cutlet Sizzling Plate (bland). Both came with a side of miso soup (tepid and nothing special). Waiter was very friendly and service was fast. Will definitely be back soon.

I ordered 3 items: 1. Scallion pancake 2. Kimchi udon 3 Korean clear noodles 2 and 3 we're ok but scallion pancakes were overpriced and inedible. There was no scallion in the pancake but instead it was like an extremely poor quality sweet frozen Indian lacha paratha with some raw mango sprinkled on the top. Portion size was not even enough for a kid and it was soaked in oil.

Food AMAZING! All you could wish for and more in a vegan restaurant. Even the biggest meat eater would be satisfied (as long as they like Asian cuisine of course). The waiter… not so much. He was rude.

This hole in the wall but well-appointed restaurant serves up delicious vegan food that is well-prepared and well-spiced with great service and at reasonable prices. We ordered 1 app (veggie tempura), 1 hot tea, 2 entrees (Singaporean street noodles and seitan lo mein) and 1 dessert (brown rice pudding) and skated out at $55 after tax and tip with leftovers. Portions are big and the tempura is well-fried, with lots of broccoli, which I love. The brown rice pudding wasn't too sweet and was chock full of great fruit—really tasty. Singaporean noodles were good, although the lo mein was on the sweet side, and I wish they had coaxed more flavor into the tofu and seitan itself. Overall, really enjoyed our meals here!

This restaurant is amazing! Everything that we had was absolutely delicious and I’ll definitely be going back. The fried oyster mushrooms and kimchi are a must!! Some of if not the best kimchi I have ever had. The general tso’s soy protein was also amazing. Great service and wonderful food. Would recommend to anyone.

ORDER FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE I ordered (2) soups, pad thai, fries and a ginger/tumeric tea (and then tipped $5 in person because I support asian businesses) when i arrived to pickup my order - first time ordering from here. I ordered over the phone bc I asked a few questions and knew it was better for the restaurant to get orders directly cost wise. Actual total was $38.47 with a generous tip for me picking up). Everything was fine except the pad thai - it was tasteless and was mostly just bland rice noodles (was told it would be spicy but there was none). What they gave me was NOT PAD THAI and not what Jin Jian had described on the phone at all. Called next morning and Jin Jian was very rude when I brought this up she blamed me which was confusing and said she wasn’t going to do anything abt it (but was happy to take my $5 tip the night before). She told me I can submit a complaint on the app but i ordered OVER THE PHONE - I didn’t order using their app. I called the Arlington location (thinking I could get some basic service from that location) and the woman who answered was very kind and apologized, I asked for a refund only for the pad thai, everything else was fine. She offered me store credit but I wanted a partial refund. She took my info and said the manager would be in touch within a few days (it has now been 6) to issue me a refund. I have heard nothing and there has been no credit card charge update. I don’t like writing negative reviews but this was the worst pad thai I have ever had and I would’ve been fine if they had tried to make this right (maybe the cook was rushed and this is not what it is typically like) but they apparently don’t care about service. I don’t recommend ordering from here- there are far better restaurants worthy of your $ who actually care about service and how they treat customers. All I wanted was an $11 refund and I absolutely would have ordered there again to give it a second go, but they couldn’t even do that right… Zhu Vegan Kitchen was extremely disappointing. You have no way to contact them via email to put in writing so if you have a problem you’re just ignored if you call by phone like I was after calling BOTH locations.
