After driving past Zig Zag more often than I'd like,, the time was right. Hunger, convenience, and the idea of a solid burger at 9pm (dead of night in suburbia) converged for me recently in Centennial.
I took a seat at the bar, was quickly greeted, offered a food menu, and asked if I'd like something to drink. Yes, I would. "Woods Boss Coastal Companion, please." Pouring this brewery's suds indicates that Zig Zag offers a tap list better curated than most burger joints care to serve.
I ordered the BMC burger--Bacon, Mushrooms, (Swiss) Cheese--to go--and settled in with my beer. When not checking out the X Games, I took in the ambiance. While many tables were taken, it was quiet. Conversation was easy. Decor was easy on the eyes. My burger showed up and I hit the road, ready to chow down at home.
Simply, this BMC burger hit the spot. While the patty could use some seasoning, its quality was evident with each bite. I skipped the comeback sauce. Three strips of bacon teamed with grilled and substantial 'shrooms and surprisingly appropriate Swiss cheese to make my palate sing. Fries were forgettable, but not bad. They provided a sizable cup of ketchup, but it tasted like Hunt's. Ick. Who serves Hunt's? Advantage: Take out. I have plenty of Heinz en casa.
Besides the ketchup, the only things I didn't like were not that big a deal:
The bun was substantial--too much. I peeled off the top to better taste the rest of the burger.
Taking 35 minutes to make a burger when it wasn't that busy.
I guess the bar closes earlier than the dining room (11pm, awesome) and the tenders were too busy cleaning/prepping to cash me out, then never came back once I got the check. Paying cash remains a vibrant option in 2023.
