"A Hawaii-based restaurant chain opened its second location in the Las Vegas area earlier this year, adding to the region's growing roster of out-of-state favorites." - Janna Karel
"I was also super excited about Zippy’s, since it reminds me of when I lived in Honolulu." - Janna Karel
"After more than four years of waiting, I watched the Hawaiian casual-dining legend Zippy’s open its first location outside of Hawai’i — a southwest Las Vegas spot at 7095 Badura Avenue near Rainbow Boulevard and the 215. The chain, which got its start in 1966 with multiple locations on Oahu, Maui, and Hawai’i Island, initially shared plans in 2019 but was delayed by the pandemic; it opened today at 10:10 a.m. to a line of cars and customers eager to order comfort-food favorites like Zip Pac bento boxes, Korean fried chicken, teriyaki beef, famous chili, hamburger steak, and chicken katsu. Embracing Las Vegas’s nickname as the “Ninth Island,” the first mainland location features a mural of the word “Aloha” on the exterior wall, offers dine-in booths and tables, and has a take-out counter for plates of fried chicken and rice or breakfast bento boxes with sausage, Spam, and scrambled eggs, plus a bakery selling custard pies, mochi malasada, and cornbread. Zippy’s is open daily from 10 a.m. to midnight with plans to eventually operate 24 hours." - Janna Karel
"I noted that the Hawaiian restaurant chain Zippy’s is opening its first Las Vegas location at 7095 Badura Avenue near Rainbow Boulevard and the 215 on October 10 at 10:10 a.m.; founded in 1966, it has become a Hawai'i institution with several locations on Oahu, Maui, and Hawai'i Island, and this Las Vegas site will be its first venture outside of Hawai'i." - Janna Karel
"Zippy’s is a local chain with more than 20 locations across the state, but it’s way better than what you’ll normally find from a fast food spot. Everyone has their go-to Zippy’s order, whether that’s the famous chili with rice or a Zip Pac, a bento with teri beef, Spam, fried chicken, and a fried fish filet. Ours is the saimin noodle soup with griddled cornbread—make sure to specify griddled, as this gives the airy cake a crisp crust. While most Zippy’s locations have cozy booth seating, it also makes for great takeout if you’re exploring and driving around the island." - Martha Cheng
