Zippy's Waiau

My parents favorite Zippy's location on Oahu. Every Sunday afternoon we'd come here for lunch. The employees were always friendly and welcoming. The food always came out fast and hot. Everything on their menu is delicious. Aloha and Mahalo for the memories.

Our first visit to your establishment and we were not disappointed! Delicious food. Wonderful service. Very nice atmosphere. Tried mac salad for the first time and it was so yummy! I couldn’t get enough! You’ve got to take the time to try out Zippy’s!!!

This location was me and my friends hangout during our high school years in the 1980's! Of course they remodeled but parts of the dining room area are still the same! Just recently met up with some of my high school friends for lunch, brought back a lot of memories!

Most of the food tasted like it was out of a can, from the bean and sausage soup (sausage not seared), to the chili and the broth. The noodles in my dish were undercooked and clumped together, the wife's chicken was served luke warm, and that's erring on the hot side!, and the deserts tasted like they were made with the structural ingredients, add a cup of extra sugar, hold any flavoring. To top it off, they somehow failed at cooking white rice, a basic staple food! Receptionist was cold and disinterested, while also seeming confused by their own system. The waiter seemed nice enough, but still brought out food that was incorrectly prepared (items missing from one plate, but added to somebody else's plate). We wanted to try this place before moving away, and I regret we did.

Had my Thanksgiving lunch with my aunty & uncle at the Zippy's Waiau, which is like an iconic place here in Hawaii. My uncle ordered a juice with no ice as his teeth is getting too sensitive, but the waitress brought the juice with ice. So he mentioned it nicely and the waitress promptly brought another juice without charging with a very nice & cheerful personality, which my uncle & aunty got all happy about. Moreover, the turkey & ham combo turned out okay so it turned out to be a very good Thanksgiving lunch.

We always visit Zippy's when we visit our family in Hawaii. The food is always great and the staff was so sweet to the kiddos giving them tokens to get little toys out of the machines with their kids meals.

Great place for family breakfast! Love the variety of choices: fried rice, waffles, crispy hasbrowns, homemade corned beef hash, chili omelette, spam and pancakes! The AC is cold so gotta eat fast so your food doesn’t get cold too, but coffee is topped off frequently. Servers are fast and friendly and service given is always top notch!

Back home after a year and Zippys was my first stop. As always, the food is great and the ladies at the counter were friendly and had no problems when I kept having to ask for condiments even though they got kind of busy. Still sad to see how much the prices went up though since I was a kid.

Zippys Waiau is always good for a late night dinner. They're open until midnight. The food was good and came out hot and fresh. We came for a late night dinner and were seated immediately. Our waitress was very attentive in terms of drink refills, asking if everything was ok, getting us take out boxes and closing out with the check. Despite it being so late at night, she was very attentive to our needs. There is light music playing in the dining area but nothing very loud. You can still fully hear your conversation with whoever you're eating with. Parking is widely available at this location. Especially late at night!

This review is on service and follow through and especially the response from Anita. Let's start from the beginning. On Weds 5/28/25 I ordered breakfast and part of my order was for French toast. My entire order was within the new food lockers and I should have read the signage because they no longer pack your order with utensils so make sure to grab them from the counter before you leave. So not only did I not have any utensils to eat with, but I also did not have syrup or butter. As with every online order nowadays, Zippys will send you an email asking for feedback. I filled out the feedback survey and lo and behold Anita calls and leaves me a voicemail. On the voicemail she apologized for the lack or syrup and butter, and also informed me of the utensil situation. She also said she was going to credit me for the French toast. Wow. That's awesome. Thank you Anita for your responsiveness and taking accountability for the lack of condiments. You are a great asset to the Zippy's staff.

We were seated right away coming here on a Sunday morning. Had excellent service by our server and I seriously have no complaints coming here. The club sandwich is my usual go to but i was craving chicken so ordered the Korean fried chicken with mashed potatoes. Chicken is pretty sweet but super tasty with the mashed potatoes. I also ordered the Portuguese bean soup and everything was lovely! Make sure you have the Zippys app if you come here often. Hubby had a half off in the app so that was nice! Bring a sweatshirt because it gets pretty cold dining in here. I don't mind the blasting AC but some may.

Ordered 2 spam musubi on the mobile app. Got a response of time order would be done. Got updates asking the way. Order was done a few minutes early (wasn't busy). What wowed me was the locker system. I haven't ordered to go by mobile order a kind time - and the locker system was new to me. Text message told me what locker and to enter "open" when I was ready to pick up my order. So cool - pulled the door open when the light went on. I'm assuming you need to be careful not to let the door close off it may lock, but that's an assumption on my part. Anyway - I was impressed! Order was still warm, but may have been sitting on a counter for a minute before being put in the locker but it was warm enough for my purposes.

Haven't been to Zippy's for breakfast in along time. Wife and I was out doing errands and stopped in for breakfast! Service was great as we dined in, but what's funny is. Every time some came out the kitchen door is sounded like someone was farting and caught me off guard! My wife was laughing at my reaction...lol! Stop by the bakery afterwards as I saw had guava Naples but when I got home was disappointed because it was apple and not guava! Oh well! Definitely be back tho, Zippy's is always good grinds!

Not even busy and the wait took forever to just sit and get a table,the bakery looks empty. Parking small and there was no drive thru so don't know why it came up

Ordered the special chicken katsorean for lunch with extra sauce today. The sauce is MEAN . I would order this again. The chicken is so tender and the coating is crispy.

I definitely love coming to Zippy's when I want to splurge. Kinda pricey for two people depending on what you get. It all adds up. Food is good here. Always on point. I definitely like ordering breakfast if I come here. It's good too. Service was good and efficient. I definitely like that. I came here with mother in law and my daughter not too long ago. Plenty of space and they have a take out side and you can just sit down and enjoy your food or take it to go. Highly recommend

Haven't been here in awhile. Had a late morning breakfast with a friend. Restaurant was fairly busy. Nice, mellow atmosphere. Service was prompt and courteous. Food was typical for a Zippy's. No problem with parking. All in all, satisfied with the overall experience.

Pretty celebrated mealtime! The food is full of flavor, and it's piping hot in the bag! This is my second or third tasting. My kids love Zippy's so much, their wedding was catered by Zippy's. It's GOOD! Eat at restaurant or to go, it's awesome!

Crap. This place is a ghost town and I know exactly why. I see lots of workers but the service is damn slow. The restaurant area is practically empty yet so many waiting to be seated. It's 6pm on a Saturday. I'm waiting for a take out order. No one working at the pastry area. Sign says order pastries at the fast food counter. You see 5 employees standing around in restaurant talking story. Why can't one come help customers who want to buy pastries. Lose money. I forgot why I stopped coming to this location. Ridiculous.

It's been a while since I've been to Zippy's on Oahu. I flew in from Portland really late. Tired and starving my daughter searched for places open after 11a. It was packed but I decided to go to the sit down restaurant side. Eduardo our server told us it was because of graduation. I had a hard time deciding what to eat because I wanted all my old favorites. Eduardo was patient and kind with us. Finally ordered and I couldn't believe how fast our food was served. It was hot and yummy. He reminded us about the rewards membership and when he found that it was recently my bday he got a cake and had the staff loudly sing happy birthday. As embarrassed as I was it was really sweet of them. They were so energetic it sounded like some of the patrons were also singing. One of the best experiences I've had at Zippy's .

Yum!!!!! This place has the best Haupia Cake -Two layers of white chiffon cake topped and filled with haupia filling. Iced with whipped cream and finished with coconut flakes. ONO!!! This particular cake tasted light and not too sweet! There were 2 slices left after my friends and I enjoyed ourselves. I ended up "volunteering" to take it home so my hubby could enjoy the rest of the cake. Oh he did... it didn't last!

Order 5 plate today and portion very little due to busy day. Not worth it. Zippy's not in my list.

Love Zippy's especially the Waiau location. Everything always comes out perfect, even the saimin (its never overcooked or mushy). I never have a problem here at this location. I'm also really happy they open at 5am (just found that out). The staff here is also awesome.

Always a fun place. Service was wonderful but hours have changed. They close the dining hall early and do take out. Chili is outstanding but everything is just good, and save room for the deserts. Alway a must stop here and do the rewards program. . Online orders are great also, if you are missing g home. Expensive but always yummy

Service is awesome as always! But no more bottled ketchup! Comes in this little container! If you eat inside restaurant! Not sure but take out side! Aloha a hui hou Zippys!

This location has the worst customer service, staff, and wait times. Every time I come for take out, dine-in, and bakery services I experience long wait times and inexperienced staff. Managers, like Julie, are incompetent. Absolutely could not answer any questions in a helpful manner. Ordering online or over the phone? Be prepared to wait even after you get a notification your food is ready. Missing items, utensils are common. Compared to other Zippys locations, this one misses the mark every time.

Terrible service in Restaurant 5/19 @9:30am when greeter sat down couple after me he served them water. 8-10 min later He did not offer for me. when lisa my server asked if i wanted anything to drink . told her I was ready to order then she let me know that she will be right back. And put another order in. 5 min later. then she ask me. The couple that came after their meal came before mine. I am only one person compared to a couple. mine was a simple order just short stack and side egg. that was it. went around and ask how you are doing. she skipped me. of all the times I have come here It was the worst customer service I have received. Management please retrain staff on etiquette of not making people feel uncomfortable being ignored. Helping others that came after you. And getting a better customer service experience. This will not stop me from visiting the restaurant in the future I just had a bad experience and hopefully not repeated. I appreciate your time and consideration

7/26/24 Did a mobile order for 3:45PM pick-up & had received a text that my order was ready at 3:30PM. I usually do curbside at this location & noticed on the app that it only offered pickup or delivery. They were doing a July special on Friday's for a char siu pork plate & wanted to give it a try. What I like about Zippy's is that they offer different specials monthly. Some are hits, some are misses, some are repeats. When I got there, I needed to use the restroom first. I asked the gal at the counter for the door code. I don't know if it was the key pad on the door or me but I had to try the code 3 times before the green lite came on with a click. I do not usually have a problem with door codes but it did seem like I had to press down a little harder on the numbers. Restroom was relatively clean for a public restroom. When I got to the counter, there were 2 ladies working, no line. Both were nice & friendly, didn't catch their names. Once I got my order, I inquired about curbside to see if it was a permanent thing like the Waipio location that doesn't have curbside no longer. She said they still have it but on days they are short-handed or in training, they do not. At the Waipio location, you are texted a code & locker number & when you go inside to pick-up, the heated food lockers are located to the right of the counter. Key in the code to your locker, then the door unlocks to get your order. I like this system because it is still contactless & you don't have to go to the counter. When I did my order for the Waiau location, I thought they had switched over to the same & was waiting for my text. Never got any more texts after the first one they sent so I asked if they were moving to that food locker system, as well. The gal said yes, eventually they are going that route & when they do, that's when there will be no more curbside. Good to know! Char siu pork plate, all mac - ONO! Pork was tender, very tasty & it wasn't dry or burnt. Mac salad was ok, good flavor but a little too much mayo. Zip pac with brown rice - an ONO favorite of the hubs. Comes with Teri beef, span, breaded fish, & fried chicken thigh. One of the few times my hubby said that the chicken tasted fresh & not dried out or sitting for hours. Portuguese bean soup, large - my favorite! Always ono tasting & chunky. They do not skimp on the Portuguese sausage, either. It's a great quick-fix when I don't have the time or energy to make it myself. Clam chowder, large. I thought it had good flavor & tasty with clams in every spoonful. Hubs thought it was ok, but has had better. They make this soup quite thick & hubby didn't eat it until the next day. I had to add a little milk to thin it out. Custard pie slice - this was good. Hubs is not a big fan of custard pie but when he tasted it, he found it to be good, too. Banana cream pie slice - My hubs favorite, but he was disappointed in this one. Usually he has no problems with it. The slice was a little beat up looking, kinda falling apart at the side & the bananas were more on the brown side. Flavor wise he said, was on point. Overall, fast & friendly service with tasty food. Side note - every time at Zippy's (all locations),whenever I check the box for no utensils for my pick-up orders, they always include it in the bag. We usually don't need them since we eat at home. Trying to save you some supply costs Zippy's, just saying.

Late dinner. Childhood memories. Been coming here since they opened and try to stop by when I'm home visiting. Always fast and friendly service. It's a nice big restaurant with lots of room and looks almost the same as when I came as a kid. My favorites are chili burrito, chili spaghetti, wun tun min, Teri beef bun, fried chicken, and Zip Pac. A bonus from the attached Napoleon bakery is the yeast donuts with chocolate center.

Very disappointed with the bakery department. I called in an order for their Peach Bavarian cake. It was for my mom's 87th birthday and probably her last. This was done 24 hours in advance knowing this cake is popular. I called a second time to add another cake. I changed the color of the icing that would be used to write Happy Birthday Mom. My pick up time was for 5:30pm. To my disappointment, no cake and/or order. The employee that was assisting was not all that helpful and too busy to assist. With all that said, my mom got a grocery store bought cake which was very disappointing and embarrassing. Sadly, this was the first and last time I will trust Zippy's Napoleon Bakery to handle such an important order.

Having received a flyer in the mail for a discount, I decided to use it today. It was for 20 % of the entire bill for former Zippys Senior Club members. Yes ,Im a senior citizen. Ha ha ha. My wife ordered the grilled cheese sandwich, and I ordered the chicken Trio. The trio came with Korean chicken, one fried chicken breast, and chicken Katsu. This dish is for chicken lovers. The Katsu was overdone ,but overall, it was a winner. The service was excellent, to my surprise. Enjoy.

Wow...45 minutes for a simple donburi. It wasn't staffing..other orders kept coming out. The other half of my order done in minutes. No apologies , no updates..kind of rude response when I asked. Nothing, guy just pointed at my food.

I dont understand the hype, i had to stop to grab a 3 piece of chicken.i can definitely live without it. One and done.

Always a must when visiting. Sao I'm just brings a lot of memories of childhood growing up in the islands. The food stay consistently very good. Zippy's menu offers islanders favorites and have added new ones since. The restaurant is very laid back, relax casual island vibe. The service is always impressive. It's one of the reason why it's loyal customers keep coming back.

It was just okay, it's wasn't anything that I will go back to eat again. The staff was very welcoming

Zippys used to be cheap... oxtail soup $27 plus tip and only couple bones ... never again

Family go to place for local food. This location was a prime spot in the area until the Pearl City location was built. BUT this place has better parking. The Pearl City location is small and tight.

landed on oahu yesterday and first stop zippys! stood at the counter for a while before being acknowledged.

All I wanted was a teriyaki chicken plate, only to be greeted with, "it's not available today." When asked about an alternative, I received a shoulder shrug in return. The only fast food place that pretty much forces you to tip for providing no additional value whatsoever. In fact, when I asked for a refill, they told me they would have to charge me for a cup. Pretty weak experience. Don't worry...the 5 of us won't be back. Too many other quality choices...and they couldn't care less.

Service time for in-dining is terrible. Save yourself some trouble and eat at the Pearl City location.

Their mushroom chicken is so wrong. instead of using chicken thighs, they chop up chicken. I guess it's chicken breast. But, it's a no for me. Another time, I ordered the shoyu chicken. NO NO NO! It was so bleh. They need to add brown sugar. Come on, Zippys!

The ambient was pretty relaxing coming in. We showed up for breakfast. Service was adequate - we got our table fairly quickly (didn't need to use the QR code to get on the waitlist), and our order was processed almost immediately. Nice folks :) On the way out, this weird cloud of alluring temptation drew us to the bakery for desserts...beware! I would've taken a picture of the dessert, but it had already eluded my camera by hiding in our stomach. So sorry.

I have a bad experience at the their restaurant We asked the staff Carlito to transfer us table cause the table that the lady staff Lisa gave us is so cold the AC is behind us but the staff named Carlito said he can turn off the Ac but we didn't asked him to turn off Ac we just him to take us to another table and the lady staff named Lisa is so rude she is mumbling that the staff named Carlito turn off the AC well it is not our fault anyway we just asked nicely to take asked in other table. I just wish the lady named Lisa should be nice to her customers and treat her customers properly. Even she is mumbling just at least the customer never heard of it. I heard it and it so loud and she never smile her face have no decency and spirit of Aloha. Hope this girl will learn her lesson cause without customers they dont have job!

Service is usually OK, but this particular location is always extremely short staffed. The restaurant is always mostly empty but has a lobby full of people waiting due to the limited amount of staff. In addition to what's shown in the photos, about half of the tables in the front part of the dine-in side were empty at 6 p.m. on a weekend. I'm giving three stars because I know the staff who are there are trying and I know many restaurants are having trouble hiring now. It's just frustrating due to how much of the restaurant is going unused.

Our server Juile wasn't the best. We waited a good 10 minutes to order dessert and when she finally noticed us waiting she just gave us the check and didn't even ask us if we were ready for the check. And then when we told her we wanted dessert she complained about it. Also when I got my oxtail soup she didn't even give me a spoon. How do you eat soup without a spoon? And when I ordered the napple I didn't know that it was warmed up and I burnt my tongue. Also never got a refill at all on my drink.

I've been a loyal Zippy's customer for years, but my recent experience at the Waiau location was incredibly frustrating. Unfortunately, this spot seems to have the slowest service of all the Zippy's locations I've visited

Ava is incompatent, I know people make mistakes but honestly the best thing she could do right now is come to work with a better attitude. I'm a regular and I notice that the other co-workers have to pick up after her. Whenever the other workers assist me, I am met with adequate service. When Ava helps me at register, I am met with attitude and inhospitality. She doesn't even look me in my eyes when I tell her my order and it's honestly so disrespectful. I don't even know what I did to her to be honest, maybe she's holding a grudge against me but I'm just a woman trying to order food. Fix this soon please.

We ordered the Thanksgiving whole turkey package. Hey, guess what, for about $200, you get a $30 turkey (literally has the Butterball wrapping still, wtf) that is probably from Walmart, a pack of Hawaiian rolls from maybe Safeway, and some sides that aren't nearly enough to make up the rest of the $150 of the package. It looks completely different from what they advertise. The manager at Waiau just tried to shove responsibility off because they don't know the packages that they sell at their own location, allegedly. The customer service at their admin tried to pretend that this is totally fine. How dare Zippy's rip people off in this way? Never again. Maybe they should spend their money on actual food instead of that dumb game they push on their app. On the other hand, their drive-thru for picking up the Thanksgiving meal was quick. I guess other people knew they're not a good deal at all. I hope you guys can avoid getting screwed over this way next time.

The prices are ridiculous! $5.00 for a single piece of chicken and $36.00 for a bowl of Ox Tail Soup! This is simply GREED!!!

LOVED THE CLUBHOUSE SANDWICH WITH FRIES !!! Really good clubhouse sandwich. Bread was nicely toasted and the fries were crispy. I also liked the lilikoi drink. Service was friendly and efficient.

If I can do negative points I would... I'm so ticked off right now. I've been standing at the kiosk for FIFTEEN minutes and not a single person came to say the no longer have human to sign in but you scan a code from ghetto ripped paper to sign in online. Once we raised hell then and only then one of at least 6 workers lifted a finger and annoyingly said you check in online. And after asking again if she's going to check us in now, she said "no need" and seated us immediately. Wow. I'm done.

I like the floor plan of the takeout: / outdoor area. If memory serves there are certain spots on the inside that are nice too but the past two times I went - I wasn't seated there. But I remember wanting to play with my toys in there--- #smallkidkinetings

D&B canceled our reservation for 16 people without telling us. it's 9:30 pm and we're looking for someplace to eat after graduation festivities. Thank you Zippy's Waiau for accommodating us! The restaurant was busy and food took a while but we understand. Sorry, I was so tired and hungry I forgot to take pictures of the food. Lol

Food was Ono! Chili over rice so dang good! We also love the noodle with fish cake. I love Zippys my Ohana do too. Good portion size great price, friendly staff. Clean location.

Had to have their oxtail soup and Korean fried chicken!!! Our waitress was especially kind and very attentive. Place needs some TLC.

giving THANKS I wanted to write a brief review of my first experience ordering a Thanksgiving meal from Zippy's. Firstly, ordering the meal on their website was quite convenient and relatively easy. You're able to choose the type of meal and date, time, and location of pick up. To give our family a break from the hustle and bustle of Thanksgiving food prep, we ordered a half Turkey meal. I scheduled pick up on Thanksgiving day at 10am. On the day of pick up, I left my home early as I didn't know what to expect. I honestly thought I would park my car, wait in an extremely long line, and pick up my order. Interestingly enough, my experience was the far opposite of my expectation(s). The employees/staff organized pick up in the parking lot for the meals. As expected, the line to entire the lot was quite long, but organization helped expedite the pick up process. Two stations were set up: 1 for checking in for your order, and the 2nd for the physical order pick up. And the workers place it in your car too! You literally are just hanging our in your car the entire time. NOTE: 1. Please make sure to think carefully before selecting your pick up location. I wanted to change my pick up location to the Nimitz location, but instructions on the website indicated that you'd have to call their customer service line, and that your location you wanted to change your pick up to was not guaranteed. 2. Quality of food was very satisfactory. Heating instructions were very clear also. BOTTOM LINE: Next stop for pre-packaged Thanksgiving meal: Zippy's! This was a very positive first time experience ordering a Thanksgiving meal from this local business.
