"Zocalo Cafe been operated by owners Chris Courtney, Kelly Chappel, and Jay Bunda decided to close the restaurant in late March so they could focus on their other restaurants, Galaxy Cafe and Top Notch Hamburgers. They’re all now minority partners in this new Taco Flats restaurant. Before Zocalo closed officially in July for renovations, it had been serving a limited Taco Flats menu." - Nadia Chaudhury

Absolutely fantastic. I came to Zocalo Cafe with my family on a weekday morning. The chips had just been made, the best I have had out at a restaurant. My taquitos and empanadas were fantastic, also easily the best I have had, and so was the queso. Really incredible. My mother liked her sandwich, my sisters loved their salads. Zocalo Cafe is a must-visit.

Overwhelmingly positive experience with Zocalo Cafe! Let’s jump right in to the food. I tried the “Zocalo Plate” and I cleaned every bit of the plate. It was SOOOO good. I also tried their queso and salsa. The queso was more on the thick side and I absolutely loved it. The salsa had a warm/hot temperature to it which is my favorite kind of salsa and The both are in my favorite list for Tex mex. The cafe doesn’t have many alcoholic drinks to choose from. If you enjoy beer you have a pretty food selection but outside of that there was 3 different types of frozen margaritas to get. I had a frozen margarita and a frozen punch drink. As far as the sugar/sweetness to alcohol ratio they were both overwhelmingly sweet and not that strong. Overall I would give Zocalo Cafe a 9.5 out of 10!

Just FYI prices listed on the menu on Google maps are not accurate. Example. I ordered the Tostada Salad. Menu on Google maps: $7.99, Menu in restaurant: $9.99. The Salad I received wasn't worth any where near $10.

Zocalo Cafe is a best option for families, not for singles. Here's why families love it: 1) It's in charming West Austin on a street with other restaurant options and coffee shops. 2) It's casual, but good. They serve Mexican food including tacos that come in three. I ordered the shrimp tacos and they weren't bad. 3) They have a large outdoor space with picnic tables. 4) They serve fun drinks for kids and adults. I ordered a double sangria (though I still have no idea what made it a double. It looked normal). It's a fun spot for families. However, if you are looking for the best food/experience in Austin, you won't find it here. Head over to East Austin to find that and better food.

I had a delicious and very big torta. It tasted authentic, and I've eaten Mexican food all my life. It was a great value. I wish I had a picture to share! I definitely would go back again. Also the restaurant is quite nice and inviting. I think there was a nice looking patio, but we ended up eating inside by the window which offered a nice view.

The food tested very good. I ordered crispy tacos and they came on a taco tray. Which keeps each taco separate from the other and off the bottom of the plate so they don't get soggy from the bean sauce or other sauce. The tortilla chips we a bit thicker and more firm which was good since we ordered a some what more thick queso sauce. Today was my first time eating here. I would definitely go back.

I've been to Zocalo numerous times over the past few years and it's always an excellent experience. Service is great, the food is delicious, the decorations and design of the building are interesting, and they have outdoor seating. The green chile chicken is a solid bet on any dish, the chicken tortilla soup is hearty and flavorful, and they have discount frozen sangria/margarita all day on Wednesdays. Definitely my favorite Mexican restaurant in Austin.

You'd think that a place that has Muy Loco Wednesdays with Drinks Specials All Day would be great! You may be right, but this place isn't. The entire place was dark. Not romantic lighting dark, dark dark. Can barely see dark. The drinks were the machine kind and were way too sweet. And the complimentary nacho bar? More like complimentary chips. What I thought would be a fun evening out turned out to be sort of a bust and while I haven't been there for an actual meal, I don't know that I will anytime soon after that fiasco. The well designed posters and advertising brought me in, everything else drove me away.
